Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame Award - Longhurst Family

The 15th annual Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame has inducted the Longhurst family in recognition of over 50 years of visionary and sustained entrepreneurship across the tourism, property and boating industries nationally and their profound impact on Queensland’s economic and social development.
John Longhurst, a true Australian business pioneer and tourism legend, inspired his sons, Tony and Rodney, with the belief that “if you believe in yourself, you can do anything.” His legacy began with Pace Mowers, moved to Pride Boats and flourished with Dreamworld, a theme park inspired by Disneyland. He also launched Great Adventures, turning Green Island and Fitzroy Island into renowned tourist destinations.
Today, Tony and Rodney carry forward their father’s entrepreneurial spirit. Rodney owns Riviera, Australia’s premium luxury motor yacht builder. Tony, a former racing car driver and Australian champion water skier, leads The Boat Works. Both businesses are based Coomera in Queensland. Together, they have a team of over 2,000 people.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Rodney Longhurst said, "Our family is so humbled and honoured to receive this award. For us, this is all about John Longhurst. He was a machine! His extraordinary vision and work ethic were unmatched, and his belief in creating world-class products in Australia was unwavering. His words, 'Just do it, a little bit different and a little bit better,' guide us in our business everyday."
The Business Leaders Hall of Fame was established in 2009 and is a partnership between QUT and the State Library of Queensland. It recognises outstanding Queensland business leaders for their public contribution to the state.
