That's a load of wood. My grandpa would tell us when we were just boys that fire wood heats you three times. First when you cut it then when you load it and last when you stack it. He always said the burning part was the least amount of heat you got out of it. I sure do miss him. Stay safe guys and give your loved ones a hug.✌✌
You’re grandpa was not wrong! Sounds like a good man. 👍🏻
@@FabRats Thanks,he was.
Thanks for sharing your Grandpa experience!
Ahh the 70's ...when all 3 big manufacturers made good trucks! i remember my dad had an old 77 F250 with a 460 in it. that thing was a beast!!
Thats now how trucks should be! Simple and strong!
They run forever too
Love the way it sounds
“Their like you when they get woke up they come out pissed” 😂😂👌🏼
I love them old square body Chevys and GMC’s from the 70’s and 80’s.
good side job trucks back in those days
“It’s not exactly what we needed... but it’s pretty much a lot closer” -Fab Rats
A hard working family with some hard working toys and tools. Loving the videos. Keep up the hard work.
This sure brings back some stiff and sore back memories.
Thinking the same, only it wasn’t with that lightweight pine!!
@@terrya6806
Pine can be a bitch to split at times. I like splitting maple the best.
WOW! What a trooper that truck is! That was some serious load but She just dug in her heels and Pulled!🤩🤩
Thanks for the video again folks. We've heated with wood for 30 years here in southern BC as well, so it's an annual chore with us too. That looked to be Ponderosa you cut and if it was, I'm well versed in how it doesn't like to split sometimes - especially up in the knotty branches. Lastly it did this almost old guy's heart good to see a rifle rack in a pickup again! They used to be standard issue up here across the medicine line back in the day but for a plethora of causes aren't so much anymore.... some of them used to even carry Remingtons! :)
Thanks again and stay well.
Thanks for watching!
Friend of mine ordered a load of wood. The guy showed up with a dump truck load and asked where he wanted it dumped. He said, “down by the shop”, so that’s where he put it. However, what he had brought was Tamarack rounds, which easily weighed more than 60 lbs each. My friend was leaving on a business trip for a couple of weeks and a stove/firewood was the only heat source for their cabin (a homestead in western Montana). His wife and three children would be alone. He told the firewood guy, “I thought you were bringing split wood? My wife can’t handle those rounds”. The firewood guy’s response: “You married her”. Welcome to Montana, where you better bring a strong woman.
😄
Lol
My mum was once upset when a customer paid her a compliment because she was easily able to load his truck with a load of 56lb bags of potatoes. Living on a farm that's just the way it was. BTW I bet that tamarack produced some decent heat, and even lasted reasonably well.
Trevor Dennis Yes, it makes a beautiful fire. Fill the stove, choke it down, and it will last all night.
@@TrevorDennis100 I'd rather get a compliment instead of someone doubting I can help load their 80lb bags of concrete. I get funny looks when I ask if they need help. It's only the rare occasion when someone will take me up on it but I load it all day behind the scenes.
I love it when an offroad truck is used for the purpose it was designed for. Thanks for showing it!
Back when trucks were meant to be used as trucks, and not priced like a house.
You are absolutely correct sir. Todays trucks are junk just for looks.
So, so true and you could fix them yourself
JMD Outdoors Oh come on, I have a 2018 f150 that i use the hell out of and it's been a terrific truck. If you compare a truck from the 80s to a base model truck today they aren't far off when you account for inflation. You may not like working on them because of the complexity, but outside that they're better in every way.
Yes! 100%
@@secret5. I am with JDM on this they don't make truck's & car's anywhere near as good as they did in the 80's and before and I can fix anything new and old
Brings back a lot of memories of doing the same thing with my dad, driving into the woods in the one ton chevy, finding a downed tree, cut it up and back home. Nice to see the new engine and new radiator working as intended.
Gotta love the old Chevy square body.
Firewood, that's one activity that warms you up more than once. Have a great day.
I can't help but think that Paul's kids are having a great childhood. Hanging out in the shop, learning all kinds of things, having a Dad that can fix anything and is willing to take them on adventures. This is the way kids should be able to grow up, not with their noses stuck to a screen inside all the time. I love the wood truck, reminds me of my 77 Chev K20 I got from my Grandpa and Dad which also has the gun rack!
Always love firing up the rig and going to the woods..running saw..great exercise..timber fit!!
Love the scoped rifle in the gun rack! Enjoy your channel very much!!!
This is one of the few channels where putting “HAULING WOOD” Really grabs peoples attention
For real....been a while
Nice load of fire wood!!!!! Lots of hard work. Use to cut fire wood when I was younger, did it for about 30 years. Thanks for sharing☺️☺️☺️👍👍👍👍
Is it just me or, does Paul really have that glow of happiness on any surface that isn't paved! :P The sound of a roaring V8 gives a lil' tickle too! Nice vid and a purdy present y'all!~
Now that’s a load of wood. The old truck sure sounds good. 👍👍👍❤️
Awesome job .. I love cutting wood..it’s therapy for me
Beast of a truck!!
There ain't nothin better than a small block , that wood truck sounds good
I haven't seen a gun rack like that in 35+yrs, Very cool
I HAVE A SET IN A DRAWER IN MY GARAGE, BEEN OFF THE TRUCK FOR 35+ YEARS. HAD THEM MOUNTED IN A 66 DODGE 3/4 TON. THOSE WERE GOOD TIMES...
My uncle has a ranch near Corona, NM and many of the ranchers still have gun racks in their work trucks. They usually have a rifle in the rack too!
Got one in my truck. Have a shovel and a Pulaski in it though, rifle rides out of sight.
Lee Montoya Muleys, elk, antelope, coyotes, bobcat, lions, etc beware!
You can still have a rifle in it in Utah and nobody gets excited...
Hauling woods brings back memories.. getting woods for ourselves and then the elderly. Now live the city life. Push button Heater and AC, lol
Love the older trucks...solid. Looks good and sounds good.
You just gotta love the old square bodies.
3:07 guess ya didn`t like the electric fans???
Gotta love them old truck... Awesome... Sounds great
Got to love those old truck!!
I love watching you do this wood cutting. I have cut, split and hauled enough for 10 lifetimes. Used to cut and sell wood on my dad's place for money in high school. I don't cut much anymore. The back is not what it used to be.
i love watching you and matt,s off-road recovery you guys are inspiring
Yes! The wood truck! Sounds great. Reminds me when I was a kid helping Dad gather firewood. We typically had to pack it to the truck, much different than Northern UT forest.
L.p. e it man this is what I do for a li ing around here cutn them junnys around here try that at 10.000 feet bud its a work out for sure... That a healthy sounding old truck for sure
Grandpa's tow truck and the wood truck are the real rock stars! Thanks for the ride...
Thanks for putting real work trucks up on the web!
That's one hard working wood truck!
Beautiful area
Theres just something about listening to a old Chevy with a granny 3speed run through the gears with a load behind it.
Living here in Northern Utah I can remember many a trip up Utah Hwy 39 to cut and load wood for the winter - 35 years ago. The ‘66 Chevy 2WD half-ton got it done for me. Fortunately we didn’t travel alone to get wood because of the physical hazards and other risks involved. A gun rack in the back window was de rigueur in those days. It was as much of a class statement (who I am) as a need for protection. It was not uncommon to encounter black bears, cougars and hominids with bed intentions. I even manufactured my first 50 cal black powder rifle in high school. Stock, barrel, action - the whole thing. Nobody thought anything about a kid carrying a rifle action and barrel into shop. Times have changed and cultures have changed. Paul and Matt et al are fortunate to live where and when they do. Kind of like an episode of Andy Griffith to me. LOL.
Wish times were still like that for sure! Thanks for watching!
James Garner's voice: "Like a rock!!!"
At 7:05 area I seen the truck body come up that’s crazy love seeing old trucks work
Wood! I used my 1976 F150 to haul wood. Winched a tree up to the fire road ther sectioned it. Spent all summer and part of the fall splitting wood every night when I got home from work.
Love the rifle in the rear window rack. Those used to be everywhere. 🇺🇸
putting that old truck to work. good to put stuff to an over test.
Truck sounds good
Great video, great truck. Thank you very much.
@ 1:44 “They are like you. When they get woke up, they come out pissed.” 😀😂😀😂😀😂😀😂
motor was purring, sweet! i just found the channel, cooling seeing matt from matts recovery. be safe out there
Love seeing these old trucks still doing heavy work. I've had a 81 Chevy K20 for 15 years now.
Workin them arms out. Great video. Love the old truck.
This episode reminds me of BuckinBullyRay. He likes his old Ford high boys and his Husqvarna chainsaws and McCullugh chainsaws (and to split wood by hand). You GO PAUL!!!
That is a cool truck. And that cattle rack/wood frame is just the ticket!
Great workout... swinging the maul, then lumping the wood... brutal too!! Good stuff!!
Hi to the Missus.. big M... you guys know I love what you and Matt do... keep it up !! Hi G-Pa.. and rat jr.. hope that ankle is ok..
Cool video, installing the new radiator then taking off into the forest to make firewoods. I like the 73' Chevy truck with the step rack installed on the bed, perfect for hauling more wood. Hopefully next year, I'll have my 97' Chevy K-10 Longbed and the 86' Chevy K-10 Longbed ready for wood hauling, they both run but need to replace a few stuff on both of them. Right now, just using the 2010 Nissan Frontier 4x4 for wood hauling. Keep up with the cool Videos 👍🇺🇸..
Anyone else have flashbacks of whistlin diesel with a squarebody with a ton of wood in the bed? I love this truck, the old trucks and splitting wood takes me right back to being a kid
Glad to see there are still places in the US where you can have a gun rack in the back window of your truck.
That reminds me of the times we went to the mountains for firewood in New Mexico.
Them ol truck racks squeak forever.
Keep up these video!
7:03 love the way the bumpers are twisting with the chassis, when the body is moving on the mounts, under flex.
Real trucks rock... 🤣👍🏻🇷🇴🇬🇧
I earned money that I used to purchase my first rifle, a model 700 in 7MM Rem Mag, cutting firewood. The best part is I used my uncle’s ‘73 Chevy pickup that has racks on it like yours. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
funny about all the comments about the gun racks. liberals have brainwashed all of us
@@lrobie123 GD Liberals.
Now that's a work truck!
Love the rack in the back 😉 miss the 80’s
That old motor sounds great
Now thats a load of wood
Good old chevy 👍
I had to watch you drive the wood truck out in the mountains again, the truck preformed great and i wasn't surprised because you know how to fix things and make them work.
I love a Purdy truck, but I also love a strong beater that you can the out in the woods and work with it without worrying about dents and scratches
Of course it wasnt going to....look who built it!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I remember back in 1973 when the square bodies first came out. We just shook our heads and laughed at the thin sheet metal of the body
that truck is badass!
Nice truck bed rack ......
I need one
Wood hauling💪💪💪💪💪👊🏾
That makes me miss my 78 Chevy heavy half. That thing would haul the hay.
Love the ole wood truck, gun rack ( with rifle in it) in the window👍. I loved hauling wood!! Great workout hauling and splitting wood!!!Shoot city folks would pay you big bucks for that kind of muscle building exercise 😂
Good ole Chevy . Getting the job done .
They b those good ole days
I miss my old square body. Cool truck!!
Love that V8 Noise
Makes me think about cutting and hauling wood as a teenager for my boss on his 1 ton 79 Ford with the homemade dump bed... good memories! They sure don’t make em like they used to! Nice video!
Brilliant, mean note
I know I already said it once but the sound edit on you videos is excellent.
Brings back memories. Thanks for that
How much wood could a wood truck, truck, if a wood truck could truck wood? Fun to see a work truck doing work. 👍😎
That engine/exhaust sure does sound good.
My wood hauler is my late grandpa’s
‘73 F-100. 4wd. 4speed manual
My old dads wood truck was a 1985 2 wheel drive single cab Dodge Ram long bed. He’d build panels around the sides of the bed and way overload that sucker but we made it every time, he’d grab aspen that was full of inch long black ants and I hauled every bit of it. Loved it though. We’d take a ring of red and loaf of bread for dry bologna sandwiches and after a day of wood bustin they tasted great.
I love square bodies! My first vehicle ever was a 73 K10 short bed that I bought when I was 15 years old in 1993. Also, as somebody that lives in Rhode Island I'm super jealous of the rust free stuff you got in that junk yard.
I think this was the most American video I've ever seen in 2020!
The way your 73 runs reminds me of my 94 GMC runs down the road and trails... My nephew says it's a beast...
Love the truck, it would be my daily driver. I do not miss the wood splitting, help my neighbors a little once in a while but I cannot do it much with cracked spine. stay safe and healthy.
Good video F.R,that's beautiful country you live in,thanks for taking me along.
Glad to see your area doesnt frown on rifles in the ol gun rack in the pickum up truck, back in the 80s in the south you could do that, but through the years qe got alot of outsiders moved in and alot has changed., hope you got enough wood for next winter.
This truck is exactly what I'm looking for to keep as the family mule for years to come.
Out here on the navajo reservation, we would call you a great in law lol! Awesome video, gun racks ,sound of GM V8s, chain saws, and wood hauling!! Its a good days work!
Chevy is the way to go good trucks.
Your wife is a keeper for sure...stacking that firewood
Reminds me of my logsplitting days.. Lol
