Jason Cammisa on the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio - Vintage Motor Trend Ignition Full Episode

- My full review of the 2017 Alfa Giulia QV - including the realization that it didn't come with a manual as Alfa / FCA had promised.
Chris Harris ruined that. 🤣
Includes full lap time battle with the F80 BMW M3 Competition with Randy Pobst driving - and a tie. But you ain't heard that from me.

I remember watching these videos as a teenager vividly. A lot of your content has shaped my taste as a car enthusiast. Thank you for bringing all this content back!
One hundred percent me
We're all living the same lives
Motortrend fucked up when they didnt renew Jasons contract. Best rewiever on the market even better than Chris Harris.
Same here! I miss those days
When you're never the only one
Love my Giulia... it's not even a Quadrifoglio, its only the Ti Sport... but it still rocks ...
The Ti Sport is a very good compromise. You still have the beautiful car, the exact steering, the driving fun. And I bet when you park the car, you turn around after walking away a few steps. Because that's what I would do.
I’ve driven a 2016 giulia q4 diesel (210hp), it handles like a dream, alfa really went above and beyond with the handling of this car, i cannot imagine what a joy would be to own a quadrifoglio version
I've a 2018 Ti Sport Q2 [a mechanical limited-slip differential (LSD) and driver-adjustable adaptive suspension]. The Ti Sport also has the same seats as those standard in the QV but with different upholstery covers. It's still the most powerful and fastest four-cylinder, four-door sedan in NA ... not to mention the best looking!
I agree I love my Ti Sport and with 3" exhaust and good tune its very fun to drive.
I had the base 2.0 turbo and all I can say is that it was the best car I've ever driven. I can't even imagine what the QV drives like.
The brake by wire never bothered me.
WHY WOULD YOU SELL IT!!! Jk, but not really. I got a used 2017 TI sport with 50k miles for my first car and I love it, I’m never going to sell it, it’s my forever car.
That's not a brake by wire, it's just an IBS (integrated braking system) which eliminates the brake booster! It has actually a better feeling than the old brake booster
Audi had to get rid of electric brakes in their test vehicles as people just couldn't trust it. Hydraulic brakes are cheap and trusted. They also give accurate feedback. God help you when the brake by wire corrodes 🤣🤣🤣
@@NOrlando952I had a 2018 and let it go…. And regret it. Keep it forever!!!!
I remember this video so vividly 😂 especially the five stages 😂 🤣 🤣 🤣 great to see these posted again. Would be awesome to get the M4 GTS one.
Coming, as I have time to upload!
When he mentioned "I watched the Chris Harris video"
That was my"aha!" moment
@@JasonCammisa lookin forward to it
@@shawnparadox9299
I saw that video too.
Chris wasn’t a fan of the manual- he actually said that you should get the automatic.
@@JPWest020 because manual transmission in Alfa Romeo doesn't calibrated well, so he say should get automatic, and discontinued too by Alfa
I wish that the Alfa Romeo Giulia sold as well as it preforms in all of the reviews.
Unfortunately many “enthusiasts” don’t care about how a car drives anymore they just care about interior quality, tech, and 0-60 times.
Alfa still has that reputation with reliability, and I've heard of the braking system giving some owners headaches with issues that require it to go back to the workshop.
@@Matthew-nl9kd It is no less reliable than a BMW Audi or Mercedes. I would still buy one because I like to have fun in my cars and not be like everyone else.
@@jjchockey I considered one for a bit, but it's a bit of a nightmare compared to the F80 M3. The engine in the F80 M3 is pretty well known to be bullet proof at this point. Also, manual.
@@jjchockey now compare dealer network sizes. Good luck having an available mechanic
As someone whos owned an e36 m3, f80 m3, Audi S7, Audi S4.... My QV is the best/most fun car I've ever driven or owned. Hands down.
I have to say, I completely AGREE with Jason on the transmission. The US and the UK get the automatic. But the Italians and the Germans can have the manual. So if you want a manual, you have to go to Europe to find one. I hope someone imports a few manual cars to the US and the UK to satisfy gear heads like Jason and Jeremy Clarkson. Thank you.
Not only Italians and Germans but the rest of Europe too
Nope, not anymore! The manual transmission was canned in 2019 here in the EU and, personally, with the ZF 8HP being around, I couldn't care less. 😁
From what I have heard the manual wasn't that good, it was heavy duty, something like a TR6060/T56 more befitting a muscle car than a sports car. I wonder if a TR3160 would fit...
Chris Harris drove the manual and didn’t think it was very good.
Yea I’ve also heard the manual they did offer in the QV was sorta shit. For once the auto is preferred option and they tuned it well plus the large aluminum paddles nice to use
Jason I love you. I haven’t been able to watch these videos since MotorTrend took a dive off the deep end. I’m currently in college and I used to watch these videos back in high school. These vids shaped me as a car enthusiast. Thank you so much for bringing these back!
The Giulia's body is a work of art. It's so beautiful.
"two drunk three cylinders having an argument" ~ gotta love the anecdote
It is intriguing how Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, and BMW are positioning their sports sedans.
I rented a QF on Turo in Austin a few months ago. Genuinely a life-changing sort of car. New Grail for me
Wow I can’t believe it’s been 5 years… 😂 I absolutely love this car! I think the styling and the sound! I would want the blue color they offer with machine wheels 👌
Oh I loved the opening scene of this review. I also love the bountiful amounts of engine sound clips in this video. Do the LC500 and the Cayman GT4 reviews next!!
Sweet! I love how these videos are being uploaded daily! My daily dose of car madness!
Went from a YMB 2016 M3 competition to a MonteCarlo Blue 2020 Giulia QV (so pretty much the same as the two track cars) and without a doubt the QV is the nicer all round road and track package.
“Julia Gulia. That’s a funny name”
Is what my mind plays every time I see one 😂
Man, Jason with these series has raised the bar on automotive journalism!
I remember watching these videos growing up, now that I've gotten older and been spending the last year tracking non stop in Norcal, I realize a lot of these old track scenes are filmed at Thunderhill Raceway. I'm pretty much there almost weekend, pretty awesome to be driving on the same tracks that you've put so many cars through the paces.
Leaving Motortrend and being associated with Lieberman. Best move ever.
He’s more upset than the time Randy called him fat lol!
I have resisted for years.... I have test drove them and walked away telling myself I only want a manual car.... But man that sounds incredible and looks like so much fun.
Didn't know Randy is an absolute giant 😂!!
Very glad these videos are re-uploaded on RUclips, gotta be 4+ years since they were removed from MotorTrend and nowhere to be found.
Yeah that's not common for a race car driver.
Just saw this after owning a Giulia QV for a year. I still love this car!
I remember watching this video a long time ago (maybe the video was uploaded again) but at that time I was a proud owner of 2017 QV and at that time so little people have ever seen one let alone own one. I loved the experience and fast forward six years and I ended up buying my second one a 2023 QV in Montreal green and still love it as much to this day. more than my Huracan tecnica and my GT3RS.
The best Sport Saloon car today !!!!!!!!
Them Alfa dials have been like that for well over a decade 🤦😂
Thank you for uploading these
In 2007 I drove a Giulia 159 turbo diesel for 3 weeks in Italy. It was an amazingly balanced vehicle with power to spare. It handled incredibly well in the mountain roads with my family of 4 and 7 pieces of luggage in the hatch. It easily hit 170kph( 105 mph) on the highway. Been wanting an Alfa ever since!
"Giulia 159" :D :D :D :D :D :D
Was lucky enough to take one of these on a long drive. The engine is something else. Chassis is refined yet very eager. The gearbox does well to mask itself. Awesome awesome bit of kit. Excitement yet family saloon comfort and refinement.
Keep these videos coming, the world needs them!🙏🏼
Thank God you're uploading these again - I loved these MT reviews.
Cammisa is always a joy to watch.
holy shit. So glad to have these back. Jason, you're the best
Love my giulia quadrifoglio. Shame the media bashed them. Mine has never given me a single issue in 4 years of ownership
The sad part is that Alfa should have learned from its past. The early QVs we got were unmitigated disasters - dying in traffic, refusing to start, etc. By the time they got into most customers hands the biggest issues seem to have been fixed. The fault here lies with Alfa for giving us cars that weren’t completed.
@JasonCammisa Think certain journalist and publication can also do their part to update people on reliability and changes on the newer version without these early model problems that scared away a lot of potential buyers. Some publication mostly outside the US did...however C&D still continue to point back to 2017 model problems even when they are praising the post 2020 refresh...
I am now realizing how these videos with you have shaped my taste in cars over the past years with the GTC4 Lusso, the Giulia QV and the LC500 being dream cars for me. I am extremely glad you got these reuploaded, pure gold!
I’m glad Jason is bringing these old videos back.
I hope he brings back the x6m vs gle63s coupe video aswell back and the M6 gran coupe vs alpina B6 gran coupe
With the BMW comparison and the track time, one of the best car review videos I've ever seen! Thanks!
MY.FAVOURITE.EPISODE.
That is why I am driving one today.
Dude. This series is back on youtube. Omg. Yes. Yeeesssss. You got your videos back. Yes.
Finally a great news in 2022. JC is back to normal car reviews. Happy day.
I considered getting this after my F80 (2015) M3 lease ran out. On the test drive I thought the automatic transmission was impressive. When in comfort (boot up) mode it acted like a regular luxury sedan. When in Race mode it acted like a Ferrari sedan. The spread was quite shocking to be honest. The main problem was that they could not write me a reasonable lease based on the MSRP because they had no idea how much the car would depreciate over 3 years. Essentially I would have had to pay 70% of MSRP for a 3-year 36k mile lease. Yikes!
Isn't that normal for lease payments? Or is leasing where I live (Belgium) so f*@cked up?
For my M3 it was about 50% of MSRP for 3 years / 45k miles.
@@AmitPatel_. For 50% of a new M3 you can buy an old one and keep it for as long as you like... I do not understand leasing.
@@leviathan5207 It mainly makes sense for businesses (tax deduction and all that), at least that's what its like here in Germany
@@leviathan5207 Yeah, it was a first year car from BMW so I didn’t want to buy it in case it had major defects. I probably won’t ever lease again but I did enjoy my time with the M3. Knowing I was going to give it back made me treat it like a rental car. 40 track days, parking it wherever, minimum maintenance, driving it hard before the engine was warm, etc. Good times. Had zero issues with the car.
Epic video. Cheers from a proud owner of a manual QV.
Jason ur opening credits funny , one of many things I appreciate the fact u know what ur talking about and u explain the systems well !!!!
I love that car SO MUCH. Can’t wait to drive it!
I'm from the UK and I only got into Jason from ISSIMI and Hagerty, and one video a week (plus a carmuddgeon occasionally) is not enough. So these are fantastic! 😀
Having blasted around Berryessa many times... The Quadrifoglio would be heaven
So Jason, you've been prattling on about the virtues of the Giulia tsi-- when are you gonna nab one for a review? I'd LOVE to see you make a video on one!
Top Notch review sir! Entertaining, informative & great filming work! 👍
Beautiful content as always, in Italy the quadrifoglio also comes with a manual and if you ever get your hands on one, you should definitely try on track the Giulia quadrifoglio GTAm, it is pure madness..!!
Thank God. Thanks Jason!
2017 with 46K miles. Never been to the dealer since I bought it. Do the oil changes and spark plug changes myself. I take 40 mph corners at 70. On road trips when I've finally had enough of SUV hell, I floor it and disappear over the horizon in seconds. The steering is telepathic----it moves before you decide you want to move. Oh, and I have the Ti.....
Well done!!! Great video.
The first giulia video I saw, where I started to think about giulia and bought one finally. Great review.
JasonCammisa I hear you!! A 6 speed manual and I would have bought one. I am Heavy Metal Alfa and have restored and driven the heck out of Alfa GTV6's for nearly a million miles, and drive them everyday. Driving a Busso V6- staying from 4K to 6K rpm on winding back roads, is Heaven! The sweet song of the Busso, and the agile, fairly forgiving balanced chassis that can take all the hardest road and track Driving you can give, and still be ready for more. It is a shame that they lost a large part of the audience because of no manual.
Problem is, alfa romeo does not have a decent manual in any of their cars..... So why put a sub par manual inside a perfect chassis? The AT8 is really really great, one does not miss 6 SPD Manual.
Even the later Busso V6 Manuals were a little bit soso..(156 GTA) and I disagree, the Busso sounds great on any rpm... Loved mine even below 3k...the change of the soundtrack trough the Rev range made it a blast to drive. Sadly the throttle body and the runners were a nightmare to maintain.
Chris Harris did say the auto was better in his driving review vid 🤷
the obession of manual in some cars are over reacting to a problem that doesn't exist
this is one of the best videos of this two hands down this and the GT 350R
My Giulia Veloce puts a wider smile on my face than any Accord V6 or 3 series I’ve owned.
Fantastic video. Folks please do not worry about a no manual option.. the car is sooo good with the paddle shifts, they are metal and makes it feel like machinery when you change. I had an M4.. i changed it in less than a heart beat when I
Drove that alfa QV 🙏
I watched this all the time when these were new I miss you and Jonny good chemistry
Looks gorgeous and beautiful, sounds meaty with a loud exhaust, the brake-by-wire is stupid, but who cares, it's an Alfa!
Loved it, Jason. Great Portfolio.
I felt this way about the Ineos Grenadier. No manual, no sale.
I'm so tempted to trade my hellcat charger in and place an order for this car. Carbon fiber roof drive shaft seats etc the car is amazing.
3:51 there's a phrase I heard a lot in college in Holland: "beter goed gestolen dan slecht verzonnen". I don't think it'd work as well in Enlgish, but the best interpretation I can give is;"it's better to do a good job stealing something, than it is to do a bad job thinking of something yourself"
LoL I dig that.
The best car journalist 👌 🙌
Best Sedan ever! Thinking about buying the 4 popper.
That is a very unique sounding V6. Quite awesome.
Jason is the best 😂😂😂"wtf what is this....is this an auto!!!"😂😂😂 Jason looking forward to more videos you rock😎
the best car currently on the market, Alfa is everything that no one makes anymore, but they should.....
Love it! I have a US2018 which I have put 75,000 miles on. Fantastic car.
Thanks again
That ZF8 transmission is good, that I never was missing manual stick. Maybe not good for drifting... but for everyday and for track driving is the best.
Congratulations on your videos Mr Cammisa without a camisa, I love the Verde which is Rojo
Excellent as usual, Thanks Jason. You got younger! LOL
You are a great reporter
Actually there have been few manual QV, more or less 250. And they are INCREDIBLY valuable already :)
Alfa Romeo Giulia is simply stunning.
For these motor tend videos.....you were always a better host then the other guy.
I have a thoroughly modified Q4 Ti Sport that I love amazingly. It’s the best car I’ve ever driven and I’ll never get rid of it unless the newer QVs prove reliable
Can’t wait for your m4 gts vid
Thank you!
Every time I see Discount Adam Sandler I hit the like button... Thank you for uploading all these awesome videos!
Discount Adam Sandler had me dead 💀
Jason thank you so much I’m waiting for that v12 vantage s
Ah, the Alfa,. My family had more than one through the years, we used to smile like that when they would crank up......you know.....like just start up...run....oh the memories 🤗
THANK YOU!
I have a MY19 model and I probably will never give it away. Last of it's kind!
Great to see some of your old videos resurface Jason. Any chance of the Alfa Romeo 4c video popping up? Just picked one up and would love to see that video again!
this design is superb
Sergio’s legacy to us was the Ferrari-designed Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio, and Hellcat SRT cars. Bravo and Grazie!
My first car was a second hand Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV 2.0L Coupe (not the v6) 5spd manual 1982 I think it was. I miss it greatly.
That's the No.1 lemon car in North America for years.
That sounds great
He’s amazing!
Am I the only one that used to despise Jason and his nonsense but now I can't see enough of him??
Thank you!!!!!
Wonderful.
I knew I recognized those roads around Barryessa 👌🏻
I was so set on this being my first new car when they announced the manual for LHD markets. Unfortunately it was not to be in the US and I ended up with a Camaro SS 1LE.
It's soo crazy to think that the country that hates manuals the most is the one that still keeps them alive worldwide.
Luv Thunderhill Raceway. Fun track to drive.
I miss seeing Jason and Randy together.
But I like to hear what Randy thinks of the cars.
