  • This community cat colony in College Point is a perfect example of why it's so important to spay and neuter the cats you feed and care about. The colony, originally consisting of 4 cats, grew to 20 cats in a matter of weeks. 12 kittens were born within a 48 hour span of time in mid March. 4 more kittens, a few weeks later. In this video we use a Tomahawk Live Trap Drop Trap with their wireless remote control trigger. The remote is set to drop the trap trap door, instead of the entire drop trap, which we find keeps the cats more calm when being trapped.

      They did for the kittens. But if they did that for the adults, honestly they would almost certainly have been put down.
      All those cats were ferals (i.e. unsocialised). It's simple enough to socialise kittens, but for adults, it is a very difficult and time-consuming process. Added to that, it is extremely stressful for the cats themselves.
      Often, even if you actually do manage to socialise them (which is not a guarantee), you still end up with a very unfriendly cat who wants nothing to do with you nor other people. Not exactly the kind of pet someone would want to adopt when there are plenty of friendly, loving cats to choose from. In the end, those adults would most likely be put to sleep. If they ended up in a no-kill shelter, they would waste away the rest of their lives behind bars. And during that entire process of socialisation and staying at the shelter, they would be using up resources which might have been put towards providing care for other, actually adoptable, cats or towards a TNR program.
      So 95% of the time it better for both us, the adult feral in question, and other feral or stray cats, that adult ferals who get TNR'd get released

      @@raerohan4241 Very true statement about feral and stray cats. However, in Southern Brooklyn, the poachers quietly poach the feral cats and make General Tso's Cat with them.

    Debemos saber que los gatos son un grave problema para nuestros ecosistemas
    ya que son depredadores de otros animales que son necesarios en su hábitat natural, como son: aves, pequeños mamíferos, reptiles e insectos.
    Debemos hacer conciencia y no salvar a gatos callejeros.
    Many people do not know but cats are a serious problem for our ecosystems since they are predators of other animals that are necessary in their natural habitat, such as: birds, small mammals, reptiles and insects. We must raise awareness and not save stray cats. Something very important is to know that cats in most countries are considered an invasive species; In other words, they are not native to those places, but rather that they have been introduced by man. Remember that the balance in nature has taken millions of years to create.

      You could say the same thing about dogs. There’s a balance to the eco system and every single species you named reproduces rapidly. Cats are no where near a problem

      Como tienes la cabeza llena de paja no te das cuenta que esta gente precisamente lo que está haciendo es que no proliferen.
      Y efectivamente el hombre es el responsable de la introducción de incontables especies en hábitats que no les corresponden por lo que los culpables no son esas especies sino la raza más mortífera que ha pisado el planeta tierra, el hombre

    I live in Sunbury Pennsylvania. and we have some very dishonest cat trappers (TNRS) here, they steal everyones pets, they dont release the cats back to where they trapped them ,and they rehome peoples pets, and even kill them,, ,they even take cats that have tipped ears and collars,,,this cat trapping needs to be made illegal,,,,just leave the cats alone !!!!

    • @julialungan4722
      @julialungan4722 3 года назад +2

      That should be illegal but TNR shouldnt be. In my country there isnt TNR programs and are cats everywere and cats are the number one invasive species, because of them many bird species that when I was smaller they were everywere but now there is none. I hope you can do something about that horrible thing that happens in your country like a petition.

      Did you miss the part where 4 cats became 20 in just a few weeks. "Leave them alone" and eventually there will be too many cats for the neighborhood to support. People who claim to do TNR and are taking neutered cats and peoples pets are being very deceptive. People who feeds strays without neutering them are simply feeding an overpopulation disaster. The best case is that people who care about these cats do the responsible thing and make sure they are neutered and vaccinated.
