I know it might sound silly and I'm sure you heard it before, but sometimes to clear up your skin you should just do nothing. And go back to the basics. I switched to all Cetaphil and CeraVe and my skin completely cleared up because I stopped putting a bunch of harsh random products on it. 💕

Acne is so frustrating! I struggled for years, I have been learning a lot about how much caffeine & alcohol intake as well as blood sugar dysregulation play into women’s hormones, specifically PCOS and estrogen dominance. Glucose revolution is a new book on the market and a great resource!

Sorry you’ve been dealing with acne! I’m almost 31 and have been struggling with it bad for the past 5 years 😩 It’s frustrating to treat because there could be so many reasons it’s happening. I started going to an esthetician when I turned 30 and it’s helped so much! Getting regular hydrafacials and having a professional help me with a solid skincare routine (and how to properly change it up throughout the year for weather changes) has finally helped me be able to control it better. I still go through stints of bad skin sometimes, but am now able to notice other patterns in what I’m eating, drinking, etc that could be affecting my skin negatively, like if I’m drinking coffee or alcohol regularly. So, if you haven’t already, I highly recommend working with an esthetician to find a routine that works for your skin. It’s a process, but so worth it in my experience. Best of luck and remember you are so beautiful!! ❤️

Naturopath & nutritionist here who specialises in fixing women's acne and hormones (had it for 12 years before)
You might struggle to figure out what actually works and what doesn't with so much info and stuff trialling. But the main thing I can 100% promise you that helps:
-monitor your sugars & carbs, don't get drastic spikes in your glucose.
The more glucose spikes - higher insulin - insulin pushes insulin like growth factor which bumps up your testosterone (aka PCOS driver) which bumps up oil production. B5 actually does reduce oil production but it's better internally supplement taken.
-inflammation: stress usually, or trans oils,
Get a simpler skin care routine, if you pick avoid bad hygiene and use fresh tissues, aloe vera applied after kills of any microscopic bacteria spreading. The more skincare you will cause more chaos in the skin microbiome
-avoid dairy-again bumps up insulin like growth factor(same with simple carbs like rice/bread)
-regulate your estrogen/progesterone ratio-again stress robs your progesterone which then imbalances the other homones. Great product is estrosense (swear by it to regulate hormones driving acne)
Start red light/blue therapy to help with the skin inflammation if you can.

Don’t apologize for feeling down about your skin. I have been there! I remember shopping with my husband once and he was telling me to pick out some clothes. I told him I didn’t feel beautiful because of my skin so I didn’t want to even try anything on. Such a low point. I’ve found vitamin A (I’ve been mixing liver with my ground beef since it’s a bioavailable form of vit A) and supporting my liver have helped a lot. Sending love to you!

This is what ended up working for me because I had damaged my skin barrier from using so many different products for so many years so my skin never got a break. I just use a cerave foaming facial cleanser and cerave cream moisturizer now. Also food plays a large part for me unfortunately so I have to make an effort to not eat out a lot or check that the foods I’m eating at home don’t have seed /vegetable oils (canola, corn, peanut, soy etc) or high fructose corn syrup. It’s so hard cuz they are in everything. I’m fine if I use olive, coconut, ghee or butter.

But I try to remind myself that when I have a client who is going through the same thing I remind them that acne is nothing to be ashamed about and that its very likely no one even notices or is bothered by what ur skin looks like besides u so try not to be too hard on urself!

I also have a medicated face wash and cream that I use everyday. the spironolactone helps me a lot but I still get some pimples around my period. Spironolactone was meant to be for high blood pressure so beware when you drink alcohol. I can't take my spironolactone when I have a night of drinking because it lowers my blood pressure too much

I really think your skin barrier is impaired, you should try using basic gentle products for awhile, so ditching the salicylic acid in products and not overstimulate it with masks and so many products etc. I would go get some LED sessions, as many as you can afford, and just cleanse/moisturise/sunscreen until your skin repairs itself which can take quite awhile.

I had a major issue with my skin that was sort of like this except I got cystic acne as well. It came out of no where, probably hormonal. I did spironolactone for 3 months then with retin-a cream prescribed by my dermatologist.. it cleared right up, I saw a huge difference in about 2 weeks. For cleanser I use differin daily deep cleanser which is amazing and then Murad Vita-C Glycolic Serum.. this serum healed my scars in days. Be sure to use a good sun block as the sun makes scarring worse. Hope you find the relief you need.

Try a low-fat, whole-food plant-based diet to clear your skin. It's also the diet that has the most evidence for long-term health (see work/research by PCRM, Dean Ornish, Caldwell Esselstyn, T. Colin Campbell, John McDougall, Michael Klaper, etc.). It has worked for me and I only have breakouts if I go off track and eat fatty foods (oils, avocado, coconut, nuts, soy, etc.), which may contribute to breakouts by interfering with hormone levels. Only partially following this diet likely won't work completely (at least it didn't for me), so it' s definitely a commitment - but well worth it in my experience. The Clear Skin Diet by Nina and Randa Nelson explicitly details this approach for clearing acne and preventing future breakouts if you want more details.

I’ve struggled with similar skin issues my entire life and the only regimen that I found ACTUALLY helped was the one I was put on after my consultation at Raw Canvas Skin Bar in Fort Langley. The products were from ZO and iS Clinical. I first went for my consultation in 2020 and have stuck to those products since. I was put on a 6-8 step regimen that was pretty expensive but very worth it. (I think it was like an $800 start up for all the products). I don’t continue to buy every product I was put on because $$ but the basics I do continue to use. I know the girls there and the owner Amanda is very knowledgeable and trustworthy, I can say this from experience with my results. Not sure if you’ve heard of them but might be worth a shot to look into. This isn’t a sponsored comment or anything lol I just found that after so many different combinations and products and struggles this was something that finally helped clear up my skin! I still struggle with acne and skin issues and would love to go back on all the products when I can. From my understanding these products are medical grade as opposed to whatever store bought products are? Idk. I was in a very similar boat so I feel like this might be beneficial to you if you haven’t already looked into them!

I think youre doing a bit too much with the products.
How long have you been using the retinol for? could be purging from that.
Try to keep it simple especially now that youre on medication you dont need a lot.
Cleanse & basic moisturizer with no actives. Throw in an exfoliant once or twice a week. At least until your skin gets better. Altho if you keep using that LRP cleanser u dont need to add an exfoliant.
Not as a forever routine just until your skin calms down. Problematic skin typically doesnt do well with multiple products at once.o

Try not to eat bread, or skip make up for a week, and see if it goes away.

I think you're using way too many harsh products on your skin, and switching them way too often. I'm just saying this from personal experience, less is usually more. Your skin is probably freaking out because of it. Stick to a few products for a few months at least! Just something I've experienced and thought I should mention it. Cerave products cleared up my skin because they are basic and gentle.
