Stick with the fibreglass. Cheaper to replace when he stacks it lol. Serious question though. With overfender type kits won't this trap moisture and rust out the panel underneath which seems counter productive after spending so much time and money on a restoration.
Definitely Sheet Steel is the way to go, would be a crime to your channel and craftsmanship to do what every other channel would do and bolt the fiberglass on.
In all honesty, dont go over the top like everyone else has, making the full custom with your finest sheet steel but keeping the cars beautiful lines just exaggerated to the extreme, remembering that the CSi is one of the finest BMW shapes ever. Great work as usual.
These cars are so beautiful. A body kit would ruin it but if you have to, sheet steel would be the crowning achievement of your metal skills. Keep up the great work. Love your videos.
I just wanted to take a moment to share my admiration for the incredible effort and dedication you've put into rebuilding the car. I’ve watched all the videos, and it’s clear how much hard work, patience, and attention to detail went into the process. When I saw the initial state of the car, with all that rust and the overwhelming mess, I could only imagine how disheartening it must have been to face that day after day. Honestly, it’s amazing how you persevered and brought it back to life. Your commitment to restoring it is nothing short of inspiring. Because of your hard work and the respect I have for the original design, I’ve decided to keep things simple and clean. I’m opting to go for the stock look and will forgo adding any body kits. I feel that choice best honors all the effort you’ve put into the rebuild. Once again, thank you for sharing this journey and for showcasing what’s possible with skill, passion, and perseverance. Your work doesn’t just restore cars-it inspires people.
I think it's ridiculous, the way this project evolves. First putting in all that effort to get the car in perfect original condition and then putting a vulgair body kit on it, something that 19-year-old boys get a kick out of because they want to drive a so-called 'thick' car... I would never do this as a professional, in fact I would be ashamed if I had to make this. I would refuse to do it if you have any honor.
Keep in mind it was priced and sold as a cheap donor car, NOBODY else wanted it restored for the price it costs. At that point, purists who could have saved it and didnt have literally foregone all right they had for this car to be kept stock.
@@ToreDL87 What an odd comment. So because others didn't have the cash available that MA has from his YT channel they are at fault somehow? And what 'rights' does anyone have if they don't own the car. Yes we all know MA likes to modify cars (and I am a subscriber) and fair play to him but THIS car has been rebuilt to standard specification. What we see here is a perfect example of a factory 635 bodyshell. So the judgment has to be on the car as it is now not what it was months ago.
I have to say Matt you like one of the most positive people I have seen on RUclips so far your personality it's very genuine look forward to your shows brother.
I just Wanted to say that you are a definite bad ass. I've watched since the beginning. And this car needed to be folded up and put in a corner. There was so many holes in it. And you have Have made it whole. Utterly amazing
I'd definitely argue for going the distance with sheet steel etc. 1) it'll probably look better as it won't flex 2) it'll be an even bigger showcase of what you guys can do 3) We'll all get more awesome craftsmanship to nerd out over
Quick tangent away from the great debate... My dude that intro! The whole video! Feels like a massive step up. Editing, filming, voice over too, next level man
Such a beautifully restored example, to be ruined by some wonky kit? Doesn't look good at all... of course as Matt says, his car his choice, get your own and decide for yourself, now a full custom built for that car kit... now we talking! Too much effort has already been put into this car. Of course you boys gotta look after yourselves and the finances of the business so taking your time with this is not just expected, but much appreciated!
Too much work has gone into to this to ruin it with body kits which will look garbage in years to come. Matt Armstrong has done zero work on this car, he should let the guys restoring it make the decision. Has Matt even mentioned this car on his main channel in the last year.
The fact that your smile was everywhere, the fact that there was a twinkle in your eyes, the fact that you almost pitched a higher voice, all when you started explaining the sheet metal idea.. I think you gave the answer yourself.. Build it for us!

Being that YCR does extremely good fabrication work, you have Mat's approval to challenge yourselves and it will definitely make the BMW unique (and not rely on a prefab kit) ..... I vote you go ahead and do the aero out of steel. As for the door aero, it would help to see a mock up dome in card board, or whatever you choose, to get the full visual on it. Mat has the pockets and you have the talent and skills. Thanks for allowing us the opportunity to vote on such a big decision.
