      My question would be, who's paying for labour and materials to make a steel kit.
      Edit wouldn't touch the doors

      Stick with the fibreglass.
      Cheaper to replace when he stacks it lol.
      Serious question though. With overfender type kits won't this trap moisture and rust out the panel underneath which seems counter productive after spending so much time and money on a restoration.

    Definitely Sheet Steel is the way to go, would be a crime to your channel and craftsmanship to do what every other channel would do and bolt the fiberglass on.

    In all honesty, dont go over the top like everyone else has, making the full custom with your finest sheet steel but keeping the cars beautiful lines just exaggerated to the extreme, remembering that the CSi is one of the finest BMW shapes ever.
    Great work as usual.

    I just wanted to take a moment to share my admiration for the incredible effort and dedication you've put into rebuilding the car. I’ve watched all the videos, and it’s clear how much hard work, patience, and attention to detail went into the process.
    When I saw the initial state of the car, with all that rust and the overwhelming mess, I could only imagine how disheartening it must have been to face that day after day. Honestly, it’s amazing how you persevered and brought it back to life. Your commitment to restoring it is nothing short of inspiring.
    Because of your hard work and the respect I have for the original design, I’ve decided to keep things simple and clean. I’m opting to go for the stock look and will forgo adding any body kits. I feel that choice best honors all the effort you’ve put into the rebuild.
    Once again, thank you for sharing this journey and for showcasing what’s possible with skill, passion, and perseverance. Your work doesn’t just restore cars-it inspires people.

      @JorisBokkerink 6 месяцев назад +5

      I think it's ridiculous, the way this project evolves. First putting in all that effort to get the car in perfect original condition and then putting a vulgair body kit on it, something that 19-year-old boys get a kick out of because they want to drive a so-called 'thick' car... I would never do this as a professional, in fact I would be ashamed if I had to make this. I would refuse to do it if you have any honor.

      Keep in mind it was priced and sold as a cheap donor car, NOBODY else wanted it restored for the price it costs.

    • @1chish
      @1chish 6 месяцев назад +9

      @@ToreDL87 What an odd comment. So because others didn't have the cash available that MA has from his YT channel they are at fault somehow? And what 'rights' does anyone have if they don't own the car.
      Yes we all know MA likes to modify cars (and I am a subscriber) and fair play to him but THIS car has been rebuilt to standard specification. What we see here is a perfect example of a factory 635 bodyshell. So the judgment has to be on the car as it is now not what it was months ago.

I'd go for the handmade sheet steel customisation, BUT for what it's worth, I'd say don't go OTT with the doors, fancy fins, fake air intakes, go faster mouldings and cowlings, which will turn a classic into custard, a restoration into a pastiche, a beautiful design into a boy-racer buggy. The car would look like a strange Frankenstinien combo of a BMW e30 M3 and a BMW 850. The original body design is timeless. Sure, resto mod the car. Perhaps a V12 from an e38 7 series? Uprated suspension etc etc. Sometimes less is more. The work YCR have put into the body is simply awesome. This restoration does not deserve to be ruined by a body kit. I don't care if its in glass fiber steel or even gold. It will still ruin it. I was lucky enough to have two of these cars back in the day. Someone has to speak up for them!

    I’m all for originality, but with all the work you’ve done and watching mat, go for it, just hope the engine reflects the look then it will be a beast 💪🏼

    Hi there, yes, I'd really like to see something creative, stylish, and jaw-dropping. You know that car you just wouldn't even bother dragging off from the traffic lights it looks so quick👍

    I've definitely been on the lookout for more updates on this car. Could you give us a video on it. since i've been watching Mat's page and he hasn't updated us on anything about it in about 2 years 👌🏾

    I'd like to see what you'd do with the steel. Also... very much looking forward to seeing the finish of the Suzuki and Disaster Datsun. Really enjoy your work. Hope you're making some good money.
    Have a good one,
    Brian

    For me, having done all the work, Id leave it completely original. However, if you must modify it then sheet still is the only way to go!
    Great videos, keep up the good work and here's to the next series on this beautiful car.
