Sheet steel or this bodykit? Don't forget to hit that like and subscribe button!
My question would be, who's paying for labour and materials to make a steel kit.
Edit wouldn't touch the doors
Stick with the fibreglass.
Cheaper to replace when he stacks it lol.
Serious question though. With overfender type kits won't this trap moisture and rust out the panel underneath which seems counter productive after spending so much time and money on a restoration.
STEEEEEEEEELLLLLL
Is that even a real question ? With your skills and for the ultimate end result it has to be STEEL
Steel
Definitely Sheet Steel is the way to go, would be a crime to your channel and craftsmanship to do what every other channel would do and bolt the fiberglass on.
Agreed!

Retropower 2.0
100% you are the guys that can pop this of
In all honesty, dont go over the top like everyone else has, making the full custom with your finest sheet steel but keeping the cars beautiful lines just exaggerated to the extreme, remembering that the CSi is one of the finest BMW shapes ever.
Great work as usual.
Sounds like a plan
Fabrication of the bodykit would be the crowning glory the kit isn't quite wide enough for me 😁👌
These cars are so beautiful. A body kit would ruin it but if you have to, sheet steel would be the crowning achievement of your metal skills. Keep up the great work. Love your videos.
These cars have beautiful lines!
In my humble opinion, all they need is lowering and a set of bbs rims!
Keep up the great work YCR!!
Thanks, will do!
Agreed! subtlety imo works (think the rear wing looks ugly/overkill - but not my car so...)
Build the bodykit of metal, but don’t do anything to the doors
Thanks for the comment :) I was undecided with the doors in all honesty
please not the doors.
Agree. Sheet steel and don't mess with the doors. Nice job so far.
Agree with sheet steel and untouched doors. Will be good to watch. really nice job so far.
I agree with this 100%
Keep it stock, such a beautiful car 'as is'
It really is!
Glad someone else feels as I do.
Agreed.
That said, could some sort of fibreglass kit could be fitted in a way that would be relatively easily removable at some future point?
Keep in mind it was priced and sold as a cheap donor car, NOBODY else wanted it restored for the price it costs.
At that point, purists who could have saved it and didnt have literally foregone all right they had for this car to be kept stock.
@@ToreDL87 What an odd comment. So because others didn't have the cash available that MA has from his YT channel they are at fault somehow? And what 'rights' does anyone have if they don't own the car.
Yes we all know MA likes to modify cars (and I am a subscriber) and fair play to him but THIS car has been rebuilt to standard specification. What we see here is a perfect example of a factory 635 bodyshell. So the judgment has to be on the car as it is now not what it was months ago.
All custom!!
Mat should mention you more, you deserve the views!!
Killing it 💯keeping the old school cars alive 👌🏼
I would keep it original especially the work you guys did to it to get it to that condition is a merit to your workmanship
Same here, keep it original. Less is more imho.
Yeah, I'm a purest, too. A gentleman's car, and now you want to add all that kids stuff?
Fr
Restomodding it would mean cutting up the original quarter panels you just restored. That's a terrible idea.
I think it's ridiculous, the way this project evolves. First putting in all that effort to get the car in perfect original condition and then putting a vulgair body kit on it, something that 19-year-old boys get a kick out of because they want to drive a so-called 'thick' car... I would never do this as a professional, in fact I would be ashamed if I had to make this. I would refuse to do it if you have any honor.
I vote for full custom using the sheet steel.
Love it
Deffs steal
Like icing a Rolex, it would look crass. It will be more valuable as a standard coupe. As the years go by you will appreciate the standard shape.4:
I have to say Matt you like one of the most positive people I have seen on RUclips so far your personality it's very genuine look forward to your shows brother.
The fact that your smile was everywhere, the fact that there was a twinkle in your eyes, the fact that you almost pitched a higher voice, all when you started explaining the sheet metal idea.. I think you gave the answer yourself..
Build it for us!
I cannot believe you going to cut that beautiful work you did that body was perfect
Keep it real .. keep it steel!
YESS!!
Only 1 right route to take and that is to make this car truely a one of a kind! Full custom body kit, handcrafted by YCR!!! LOVE FROM NL ❤
Such a beautifully restored example, to be ruined by some wonky kit? Doesn't look good at all... of course as Matt says, his car his choice, get your own and decide for yourself, now a full custom built for that car kit... now we talking! Too much effort has already been put into this car. Of course you boys gotta look after yourselves and the finances of the business so taking your time with this is not just expected, but much appreciated!
Agree mate. It bshould be restored the way it was from the factory back in the day
Sounds good to me :) one of a kind beast!
I agree
Exactly standard this thing is so beautiful
Too much work has gone into to this to ruin it with body kits which will look garbage in years to come. Matt Armstrong has done zero work on this car, he should let the guys restoring it make the decision. Has Matt even mentioned this car on his main channel in the last year.
Make it your own - full steel body kit would further show your expertise and workmanship and give the car what it deserves
It really would! Thanks so much!
Being that YCR does extremely good fabrication work, you have Mat's approval to challenge yourselves and it will definitely make the BMW unique (and not rely on a prefab kit) ..... I vote you go ahead and do the aero out of steel. As for the door aero, it would help to see a mock up dome in card board, or whatever you choose, to get the full visual on it. Mat has the pockets and you have the talent and skills. Thanks for allowing us the opportunity to vote on such a big decision.
You have already done more than what any of us ever imagined. Your talent is just so incredible!
Please keep the car original without any body kits! Even though we know you def can make a banger steel one! I was hoping Mat would do the mods later…
I have seen the entire series of rebuilding the 24. I fully agree that this car and your work deserves the extra step. Go for steel!
Sheet steel!! Beastmode!
YESSS!!!!!!!!!
The Australian JPS Group C car that this bodykit seems based on was never as beautiful as the original design...
Stunning car, keep it beautiful...
Love your work, lads!
Definitely full custom! Watching you guys work your magic is truly inspirational. The end result will be a sight to behold!!
I'd definitely argue for going the distance with sheet steel etc.
1) it'll probably look better as it won't flex
2) it'll be an even bigger showcase of what you guys can do
3) We'll all get more awesome craftsmanship to nerd out over
3 awesome points there! I think steel is the way forward :)
Another vote for the steel. I think bolt on kits look cheap and with your skills it would be a missed opportunity for Mat.
As this car is one of my favs I've been curious about it's progress. Thanks for everything.
First of all, you’ve done a fantastic job restoring such an iconic car thus far. You’re at a crossroad that leads to greatness either way.. why choose? F-it, do both! Restore it to its dope original lines and fabricate a metal removable body kit! Matt and all the subscribers will be thrilled and tickled!
sheet steel beast mode. GRP is for squits. The body kit you stuck on turns the car into a BMW CSL ‘Batmobile’ replica. Make it yours!
Roger that!
Keep this one STOCK with some bbs’s on it…get another one for the sheet steel body kit 🤝🏼
keeping it original, you look original driving it!
Great vid, love your work. You always have great tunes as well.
YCR Steel job, in my humble opinion.
If we must see an E24 as beautiful as this one being modified then fibreglass would be a complete abomination!
Love it! Thanks so much
Quick tangent away from the great debate... My dude that intro! The whole video! Feels like a massive step up. Editing, filming, voice over too, next level man
Man he’s putting a lot of effort just to show us. Well done you. Love
Your work is absolute quality, don’t spoil it by fitting a fibre glass kit, keep it bespoke, keep it steel 👌
Hey buddy Mr. Captain yorkshire Ryan good to see you I just got home from visiting my brother and im glad my internet is working its slow but working. That chassis rail you made for it belongs in a museum. I will never forget it you are the best 👌 👍.
Hi David, hope you are well, Thanks so much for the comments and the continued support! Hope your brother is also good. And yes! I really enjoyed making that chassis rail and I made sure to include it in this video :)
@@yorkshirecarrestoration my brother is doing good so far I just hope he doesn't have any more problems with his heart..yeah buddy I love that chassis rail bada Bing bada boom ❤️ hope you all have a wonderful blessed week ahead and a safe one. Take care buddy.
Ryan, in order to best compliment the outstanding restoration work you've done on the car already, steel is definitely the way to go!
Mind you, you would need to keep an eye on the increased weight by using steel.
you both come a long way since this series started. what a beautiful piece of art! I wonder how many hundreds of hours of labour went into this. Putting a bodykit on a rather used car is one thing, but like "destroying" the work you did until having a 6 series in such a mint condition makes my heart bleed.
Sheet steel - that’s what you’re all about and the result will be epic with the level of craftsmanship you guys have. 👍🏻
It has to be sheet steel. Next level stuff! High end RUclips channel. Can't wait
Do body-kit from steel it will be one of the kind. And i think u guys are proper man to this type of madness
Steel body kit for me. No question. Hoping you go that way, it will make a great series even better to see that being made.
It really would!
Full custom sheet metal brother ♥️
Love it
The way Phil at Driftworks has had the bodywork done to both his e30 m3 and Murcielago are in my opinion the best way to go, widening them by quite a bit yet keeping them looking like they were made that way. The guy (maybe Ricky?!) who did the bodywork on them is quite frankly a flippin master of his craft and has made the cars look astounding. Also I think of steel and then i think of weight, If you decide to go large would ally not be a better route? I seriously adore this project, and with all the time and effort gone in, 100% make sure you get this bit right. kudos to you sir.
STEEL, STEEL, STEEL, STEEL. It’s a must, but don’t over egg the final design
Got proper group 2 racing vibes 😍
Oh yeah!
I was looking for this comment! 👌🤩
Sheet steel for sure as you have proved you are more than capable!
Sheet steel 100%, the cars a work of art, show the world what you can do mate 💪
A body kit on the E24 ...... Has someone lost their God damn mind ???
haha
100% agree
Make you own body kit you obviously have the talent to do it justice
Thank you so much!!!
such a beautiful car, keep it stock with metal man, from what I can see in comments there are most of us who cherish old days and car from back then. I wish it would be as original, Mat has already many new modified cars, what he needs is one gorgeous old times
I appreciate where Matt is going with this build. That body kit will certainly need lots of work to make it look like it is not just an add on. I think possibly leave the boot wing and bumpers as fibreglass but definitely make the rear 1/4's and guards out of steel. If you do make new steel panels also try and incorporate the OE fuel door and pocket into the new flare and extend the fuel filler neck. Don't touch the doors apart from deleting the side mould holes. Maybe also consider doing something different with the rear view mirrors to match the new aggressive look.
What about the Mazda Cosmo? I miss that.
To make a return soon!
Make your own steel wings perhaps using BMW 3.0 csl group 4 race cars for inspiration.
Very good inspiration!
100% got to do fabrication in sheet metal, putting fiberglass body kit on it,is the easy route,I'm sure if it's done in sheet metal, then it's been done rite the way it should be,matts got plenty of cars so I'm sure he can wait as it will be worth it,and then I'm 100% sure that this BMW will be one of his top 3 cars to date...love what you all do and wish i could be involved 😅can't wait to see it all done❤❤❤
You are an Artist and all your creativity should be given free rein. Beastmode gets my vote and I believe we will all be stunned by the finished result.
Beast mode obviously
Love it!
Nope, bodykits not for me.....ruined a great looking car.😢
Its not for everyone I guess. Thanks for watching though!
You are the masters of fabrication, plus more content! Easy decision. Mat would have a unique car and you would have one hell of an advert! Do it!
I remember the episode when Matt actually picked this BMW up....Can't believe how good its turned out and I can't wait to see how its going to finally look...I think I've got an idea in my mind...Matt's one lucky guy getting you guys to do this eh
1000% make your own body kit
Thanks so much!
@@yorkshirecarrestorationyour welcome I love watching the craftsmanship and skills you have, any opportunity to see more of your work can only be a good thing
full custom all the way ! and a savage m3 engine
Love it!
full steel body kit ,the car will look absolutely amazing either way , but you have the skills and talent to make history with this one ,
please keep the vids coming mate.
I mean that is a silly question!!! Obviously full on custom sheet steel to give it that next level custom 1of 1 look and show off the pure craftsmanship of Yorkshire Car Restoration. Plus we can all tell as soon as Matt okayed it you definitely wanted to do custom!!
Sheet steel gets my vote but this tantric "Mat Armstrong" build series needs to come to a head.
Thank you! And we worked on this car one day per week and showed more of a how to on restoring the car, this is why it has taken so long
Oh dear, another one to be rewined. Although it was predictable considering the owner.
Mat loves to modify his cars, i guess there are a lot of them out there which are original, so this one will look different
@@yorkshirecarrestorationmodified one of his with a telegraph pole 😊😂😂
Defos go with custom doors, not alot of these old cars have these designs and this would make it one of kind for sir mat Armstrong best car content creator out there, and yous guys will smash this out park, getting more people want there old cars just like this
I can't wait to see this finished the quicker process the better lol 🎉
Ruined it
Its his car that he wants to be unique
Taking BMW's prettiest ever car and spoiling the lines. After all that work making it solid, it will look a total dog, IMHO.
Its Mats car so he calls the shots.
Steel door probably is the coolest option but just have in mind that if you stick to standard door hinge position you will end up with a rotation clash. To avoid it you need to chamfer it off.. like a lot.. (at least if the idea is to aline with front and rear widebody fenders!
Awesome work!
E24 HOONIGAN style would be awesome. What legends you are, thank you ... Steel!
Hideous kit.
Its not for everyone
How to ruin a beautiful car in one short video.........
I suppose the body kit is not for everyone
Sheet metal all the way. You’ve done a magic job so far. You’d be declared a genius if you can mock that body kit and give it a bit of flare!!! Talented lad you are pal!
You can just feel Matt watching 😂😂👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I will get a lot of pain for this but please lose that horible body kit
Its not for everyone I guess, but Mat wants it
@@yorkshirecarrestoration you are right it is his choice .
I vote for sheet steel for sure. The e24 is such a beautiful car, I think it would be best to just exaggerate the body lines a bit wider, not too much. Keep the doors original and make it tastefully wider so you can fit some nice wheels.
Love the BMW's body kit, but think you should go full beast mode. Would like to see content on your daily driver too.
That E24 is going to look insane loving the lines ❤✊🇬🇧✊.
Full custom of course!!
I think fit the kit! Sheet steel will take forever and add a heck of a lot of weight, it’s going to look great when you complete your magic!
Full beast mode all the way 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I’m all for originality, but with all the work you’ve done and watching mat, go for it, just hope the engine reflects the look then it will be a beast 💪🏼
Sheet steel for the quarters and fiberglass front wings. Takes some weight from the front and the quarters would blend in smoother if you weld them in vs bolting
Whichever is the quickest, feels like this build has taken an age already and just want to see it finished now. 🙂
As you were fitting the kit .. i was saying to myself ... why is he not fabricating it? Can't wait to see you build it!
This is the super silhouette that fought so valiantly with all the japanese back in the 80's and 90's amd it's fantastic please please keep the shape Regardless of material !
Sheet steel is the way to go with this 💯
It’s looking awesome already, well done 👏
Holy shitballs..................aint seen it for a while, what an awesome rescue job. Well done lads.
Your work is epic.
Going to look sick when it's done , steel work you've done so far is unreal .... proper restored 👏
Sheet steel Al the way!!! You have done such an amazing job to date and the craftsmanship has been second to none! Fibreglass just would not reflect that beautiful work!
Sheet metal and extreme classic style German touring car look for me. Bodykits style ok but not classic style enough for such a classic car. Keep up the good work 👍
Custom is the way to go. Its a no brainer. ❤
Sheet steel 100%, it's come so far and had so much care put into it that it would be a waste to throw the fiberglass on it, although its cool to leave the wing as fiber. This whole thing is really going to put you on the map if you go full metal
this looks incredible , doesn’t even look like the same old ragged out dumpster on wheels. Nice workn
All that lovely work needs to be seen stock form , absolutely beautiful job no kit
Custom sheet steel thats Matt to a tee 👏👏
That kit looks insane! In very good way. Absolutely stunning!
