We're back in Train Sim World checking out a brand new DLC recently released called Great Western Express. Here we get to drive diesel electric commuter trains in Britain, including the fastest diesel electric train in the world, going in excess of 140 miles per hour! Instead of hauling cargo, now our job is to bring pedestrians from station to station on time, it's an interesting take on Train Sim World's previous Heavy Haul.

Hello everybody, I'm Gray! I love doing let's plays and tutorials of games, such as Happy Room, Conan Exiles, Raft, My Summer Car, Hello Neighbor, Brick Rigs, Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, and BeamNG.Drive. I've got at least two new videos coming out every day focusing on gameplay, tutorials, tips and tricks, and bonus videos coming out of the newest Indie games as well. Thanks for checking me out!
Nothing like a train driver having an out-of-body experience and roaming around suburbia while the train hurtles along at 120MPH through London.
Train simulator: drive trains for fun.
Gray: leave train to drive it’s self to explore the map.
You've clearly never seen nerdcubed play this game then
Ok
Being from Slough that Slough station was incredibly realistic, especially the part where gray took half an hour to leave the station
pretty accurate for London that time of year, people in England don't make conversation on public transport so they've nailed the AI too
Geoff Dutton I’d say that kind of thing doesn’t happen much at all in the States either. Especially in urban rapid transit like the DC Metro or New York Subway for example
This does not happen anymore and we were once hotter than sfo+Ealing Broadway is not london
I love it when the train driver just astral projects away from the train
I wish the train driver would come sit next to the passengers while the train is going for a speed record
Gray: is the sun really in that position at 9 in the morning 2019, January 1st britan
Me: no, it's constantly raining
Exactly
Briton not britan and tbh that is very true
@@nova_viper4985 *Britain actually
@@stephaniesmith4477 it's actually Briton it's only Britain when your using it as a noun in a convisation or something like that
@@nova_viper4985 Actually you only use 'Briton' in regards to a British person, so it doesn't really have much to do with it not being a noun 🤷🏻♀️
"And now we have to deal with the time schedule..."
You've never been on a British train, have you Gray? lol
LMAO ik what u mean, I get on a train to see my gf. and that is.....Just.....Just don't even...… Just don't even go there...Please
We don't have a schedule in Britian.
Luka Mitrovic you do schedules are sets of station stops
Hahahahahah the train is ALWAYS late
Wdym?🤔
The 147 miles an hour was on a test run for publicity: all the passengers were journalists, all the signals ahead were green, and the driver had permission to leave the throttle wide open. Apparently it wasn't a very comfortable ride, but it set a record for diesel trains that still stands. I've often ridden on these trains, and probably so has every person in Britain! They're being replaced by electric trains on various lines now, but where electrification hasn't reached yet the InterCity 125s still rule for long-distance passenger transport.
zh84 I haven’t rode the locos, but the MK3s are really comfortable on the GEML
So I've never ride the GW but know mallard is the fastest steam locomotive in the world but if youv never been to nrm in Yorkshire England best place I've been to and alot of trains and there is a Atlantic express or something else and a world war 2 bombed train from Middlesbrough
Its record was broken by the Talgo XXI
it was never proven
also the driver though it could go above 148 bvu they didnt want to take the shine off the apt
A lot of them you can tell how old they are because the locos sides are so covered in small dents you can see where every frame is under the metal sheeting! LOL
[Apply Full Brake]
[Throttle at 100%]
Genius.
Oh, it throws the throttle off by itself. Sweet.
"It's 40 minutes which will be shorter through the power of editing"
35 minute video
it's still shorter than 40 though
Yeah. Just flat out. Five minutes shorter. Think about it this way, it's 12% shorter.
Wow I didn't even notice it was this long lol
The more content the better
*35.41. No he just takes off five minutes
*Gets objective complete* "Oh look at that that was easy."
*Gets out walks around on tracks* "I wonder if you can get hit by a train?"
LOL
I'm a train driver and your driving makes me kinda nervous.
Multiple wrong side door release's
Stop shorts
Speeding
A SPAD
Driving with parking brake on
All in a days work...
I'm not even a train driver and it's driving me crazy too
I doubt your a train driver considering any engineer would never call themself a train driver.
@@bac4mor sorry, English is not my native language and as far as I know the Brits do say train driver.
I am from Germany and we say "Triebfahrzeugführer". Good luck pronouncing that
@@bac4mor over here in the UK we do call ourselves train drivers, although tube drivers call themselves train operators I believe, as the title engineer is for some one who does an engineering job i.e train maintenance engineer or track maintenance engineer etc, where as I am driving the train.
22:20 -- I know this is like 2 years later, but you crossed a switch at 10 mph over the speed limit of 30. Crossing a switch at that speed could split the switch, and/or derail the train.
End up face first in the snow... if you live.
Isn't there speed breakers before every light and junction to kill power to the throttle and apply the emergency breaks? They did not seam to work in this scenario.
Im British. The game is actually pretty accurate
It has to be dreary, expensive, and unreliable. Bonus points for having more standing than sitting passengers.
Hey sid
Sid3300 true dat
I am also from britain and i agree it is realistic
Bar from the fact it never snows, just rains! (I’m joking)
As a former FGW driver, this is pretty bloody realistic! More so than the simulator we used to have, makes you wonder really. But yeah, blasting through Ealing Broadway at 128mph is really weird to see, and both amusing and scary at the same time!
"Now, how realistic is this countryside?" - Whilst looking at a housing estate....
He's American, he can't help himself.
If there is countryside under the housing estate, then pretty realistic.
Why are you unlocking right doors on left side platforms?
Here's hoping some people fall out.
@@AndrooUK That's why he didn't see anybody getting off on the platform.
Those are not even sliding doors XD
If a train were to go past his right side, it would rip those doors clean off
Because the game just says to unlock the carriage doors. Doesn't specify which.
Also, remember he has never actually ridden a train or tram before, so he would not know from experience either.
@@stefanm.734 I don't think you need experience to know that if the platform is to the left, you don't open the right doors. the button even said "Unlock right doors".
and if you see the word "right doors" you might not wanna press it. especially laterr he moved past the train with the camera and it was really obvious that the open doors on the wrong side don't make any sense.
YES IN UK WE ALWAYS UNLOCK BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT DOORS TO LET THE PASSENGERS GO UNTO THE OTHER RAIL IF THEY WANT. VERY ACCURATE
"I mean the train's basically driving itself now" said no train driver ever.
Got to say that train model is bang on, inside and out, the amount of people leaving the station on the beginning is accurate, probably actually understated. yes grey 9am on a brisk January day the sun is that low, and yes it's always super frosty. And when you say about the Ai talking on this... It's the UK we don't talk on trains so that was bang on 😂 we sit and we get where we're getting to.
Grey, when advancing the throttle on a diesel electric, you want to keep the ampere meter in the green for efficient acceleration
Also irl you would burn out the motors/ generators
I miss the “alright, so we’re back with the only game that...” and “in train sim world you play a young train driver who...”. God, how you get used to that!
When gray wasn't a total psychopath, only a partial sociopath
I fix these trains for a living, Shame they’re getting rid of them.
Train drivers driving these are on £55k + a year
I can also confirm this is exactly correct in the cab. You can’t actually lock and unlock the doors though
Wipers off turns the wiper off and puts it to the right, parked parks it slightly higher ready to go in real life
they are not getting rid of them gwr are but vtec and scotrail are getting the old gwr ones
They’re getting rid of the class 800s?! I thought they were cool; as a frequent user, their seats and luggage compartments are great!
And here’s me, an able university graduate earning 26k when I could pull some levers and earn 50k. Some entry level jobs for arriva trains wales starting at 30k
We live in Scotland Grey, and the sun is about right!! It’s really low and watery that time of year! They smashed it! Also, LOL at every reference of Florida ever because that was where I was born and raised and you crack me up reminding me of all Florida’s “quirks”.
Gray: look at this! I found a car!
*and now, we have a car in its natural habitat. It constantly does uturns throughout the day.*
Bro, they even have the switch machines on the tracks that move the points. Oh hell yeah! I work for a railroad company and seeing the realism in this game is really making me happy. Wow!
It's always amusing to hear the reactions of an american playing with UK trains, mostly the speed and the two-tone horns... :P
ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS FOLLOW THE DAMN TRAIN CJ!!!!
Hey Gray, you and one other youtuber have really helped me get through the last couple of days. I am a las vegas native with friends that were hurt. Thank you for putting a smile on my face and giving me a short break from the pain and stress!
"Sounds a little squeaky"
Proceeds driving with the back brakes in full service
I thought driving with the brakes on was what you do in England. I mean the tardis constantly has its breaks on. Although I haven’t watched the show in a couple years now.
its the UK no one talks too each other..... ever, its realistic trust me
When he swapped to the other end of the train he left the parking brake on in the end he left wich is why it was squeaking and going slow at full throttle xD
Michael Cody Left the door stood open at the other end too. I was thinking of both.
Everyone just staring into space, not making eye contact, and not talking to their fellow passengers. This game has absolutely NAILED the AI for train passengers here in in England.
Japan: "You were 10 seconds late, you failed, your fired, go to jail."
This game is very accurate to the weather and sun times in England. Yet another great video for Gray, Thanks.
wipers parked means it will get to its original place and not just stop
He has changed a lot over time hasn’t he
it's cool how realistic simulator games have become
A British fan: yes thats where the sun would be
#GraySquad
Grey come over to England and see for yourself but it's never snowy like this ever
A British fan: yes that's probably where the sun would be, if you could see it behind the rainclouds.
Wow that's ossome
Mc Bradas plot twist 3 months later it’s snowed
TrisTCM TheChangingMinecart
It depends on the time of year
Im a railway engineer, and i am very impressed by the detail of the cab! The only thing that's missed is the fail safe systems arnt as reactive on this simulation.
Dude, people who made the game put so much love into it, so you can definitely feel it. I mean, train simulation is a weird thing, but this game looks pretty awesome
Thanks for playing this epic game
Loved the video. You should definitely do more of this game. And by the way, the reason the train was going so slow at the end was because you didn’t turn off the parking brake.
Would love to see Gray play Omsi.

Good night 🌙😴
Good night 🌙😴💤
hed die from the stress of setting the bus up, ive seen videos that are 75% the youtuber trying to set the bus up
When you stopped in Ealing Broadway, I think you stopped at least a couple cars short of the platform, which would cause passengers in the last few cars major distress. In "Train Simulator," the bigger brother of TSW, stopping at the wrong place slows the amount of time that train loading takes, which effectively reduces your score. In reality, they would check the brakes on your train and then consider firing you.
The map is so accurate I could see the bridge near my house 😂😂😂
So this was in the days before Gray became a psychopathic game player? :P He was worried about passengers having a smooth ride, but now he'd be trying to see how many he could make fly out or die in horrendous ways! :D :D
Hey, uh, Gray... The reason the train was so much louder going the other direction and slowed down so much better is because you had the parking brake on the whole time. It's the red light just above and to the left of the emergency brake.
5:30 I believe the phrase you're looking for is "Allll aboaaaaaard!"
This game is soooo calming 😌
The fact that he played this makes me so happy
The music in Dovetails games like FSW, TSW are magnificent!
2:33
Gray: the woman is well... *trails off*
Me: well endowed isn't she?
On your return trip you had the parking brake on that is why there was squeaking and the train didn't throttle up properly, there is a button above emergency brake lit up red mean parking brake is on to the left there is a button covered by a guard that releases the parking brake, nice video though dude it's one of the best sims I have played in a while.
Hey grey I can confirm that those style of houses are very common around England, especially London Suburbs.
Yup, and the stations look so realistic too.
the music when you were looking at the neighborhood and ai car made me just feel like i was in heaven it was enlightening
I am so shattered that we didn’t get a “Alright, so we’re back with the only game…”
And Gray's supervisor would later give him a disapproving look upon discovering he left the cab door open. D'oh!
Stations look good!
The cab interior is very accurate, and the sun is around at that position at the time of morning.
Imagine just commuting to work and then when you get to the station the driver says, "Oh wow! I stopped at the station, how lucky was that?"
I live in London. This is very VERY realistic, everything is!
this is pretty cool, i used to get the train from slough to paddington for work everyday, its pretty accurate for the stations. even the pumpkin coffee stop
I live in London and I love how he though southall was countryside 😂
It does kind of look like it I know it isn't people who live in London know it is London people who don't live in the UK think it is cause how it looks like.
I noticed the same.
12:35 says that he doesn’t want to hit other trains on the track : passes a red signal
British guy here. That's accurate lighting for a British Winter, though it generally snows once every 4-5 years where I am and even longer than that around London.
4:20 - Imagine the driver walking randomly into a carriage and leering at the passengers and then exiting again PMSL
Better yet... imagine the train driver outside the passenger window looking in...
25:45 you were driving with the handbrake on! LOL!!!
7:13 just like a person who flies an airplane is called a pilot. A person who drives train is called a loco-pilot.🙂
This will prove that I’m a train expert
Awesome! Another Train Simulator video! One of my fav. Game! Also Gray I'd like you to play My Little Blacksmith Shop (I'm one of the volunteer Developer) Will send you the latest 0.9 Alpha Version soon xD Stay Tuned!

I'm pretty sure that the sun is at a different hight at 9 oclock also I love your videos
This is really an amazing game. It looks realistic, of course I have never been in a train driver's seat, just as a passenger but it looks like the real life thing.
On the return journey, the reason why your train was so slow, because you left the ‘Parking Brake’ on.
Frost and snow. That a full blown blizzard mate. All schools shut down. Boone going to work today 😂. That’s the uk for you
Now you are playing my kinda game!!!
Gray, it's a train - it goes back and forth in a linear pattern - so YES you are going back to where you just came from! LOL!
"It would be cool if I was working towards something. Like if I knew what all this meant."
So... life?
remember, never serve hot chocolate to the kid that asks you what train this is.
That was a good video, maybe you should do the heavy haul😊😊
Dear Mr. Gray...
Your videos not only make me laugh, but they make my wife roll her eyes and ask surprisingly relevant questions. And isn't that the goal?
I'm curious about your choice of video editing software and sound effects. I used to have Vegas Pro a million years ago.
anoraks will love this
Apart from the fact it’s snowing in winter instead of summer is very strange 😂😂😂 our weather is super back to front
Gotta go fast like gray!
I always play this game mostly drive the british rail class 66 and the british rail class 395 and the other british trains in the british dlc packs, my grandfather used to work on steam trains till the 1960's and my fave steam train is the flying scotsman, it is such a beauty.
Alot of the scenary is accurate to the areas around the track and stations
As a British Train Driver I can tell you that this game was taken from the inside of the train so it is completely correct.
Gray wants to go back and say hi to his passengers... The games says no... So Gray gets train to maximum speed, full service breaks + emergency breaks. We will bring the passengers to US!!! Cleaning may not like all the nose smudge marks splattered on the front of all the carriages.
Yes that is where the sun would be on new ears day at 9. Very realistic game
as a brit, i can confirm, after u noclip a good amount of distance away, there are checkerboard tiles!
Not going to lie, when he started using the high horn on the outside i started looking around trying to find the mosquito
The squeaky sound is probably the parking brake.
It's one of those buttons behind the brake lever.
Second row second column.
*sigh
No, it's the mk3s.
The squealing is from the air bags on the mk3 coaches, not because of the parking brake.
This is eerily accurate.
Wow I’m watching this at 9:00 on January 1st
love your videos.
theres two ways of doing thing, the wrong way, and the great Western way
Nice to see you here Duck.
Electrical trains and metros are like a Tesla. If you opened the throttle like that on one, it would whiplash everybody and throw them down on the floor. They reach 60 mph on some 15 seconds, and brake just as fast, with disc brakes the size of truck wheels.
I love the braking sound
Dovetail games: making a beautiful train games
garystillplays: lets go to the configfiles and edit the speed add some zeroes dammit!.
I do really have a headache watching this vid.😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
