    I have a 2018 Giulia QV. Had I’d it for 18 months so far and absolutely love it. Only two complaints r the shift lever(cheap feeling) and the hood latch. Nice to see Alfa upgrade the shifter. Don’t really care about a touch screen but most people do, so also nice to see an upgraded version. Would like to see more interior options in the US, but all in all I think the Giulia is the best choice in the category. It doesn’t look like anything else and the design is timeless.

      Totally agree with you, on every aspect. I didn't go for the QV, I settled with the Veloce in pretty much the same configuration as shown here (with this incredible Misano blue paint and yellow calipers, stunning, can't get enough of it). 18 months also and a little more than 30000 km. No issues at all... apart from the fact that I want to get at the wheel again as soon as I step out of the car! :-D Quite a paradox this Giulia: everyone loves it but no one buys it (well a few lucky or smart people do fortunately), starting with the Italians. I drove to Milan last December and as soon as I crossed the border into Italy, I swear to God I didn't see any Giulias AT ALL (quite a few Stelvios though). About time Italians remember they're better off with a car industry before it's too late. I hope the partnership with PSA will give a positive impulse and get this brand to the top again, where it definitely belongs.

      I think they should have updated the face. It looks a bit awkward to me, the face they teased for the stillborn GTV and the face on the Tonale both look better integrated with the car.

Great car to drive, every time you reach your destination you cannot wait to jump in the car again, that after you turn your head after it at least 5 times as you walk away:-). Hi Thomas, another great and objective review, I watched the previous one several times when doing the research before buying my first Alfa Romeo.
    I bought the 200 HP petrol version 2 months ago, the one you also recommend and I can say I love every moment I spend in the car. It is a perfect choice for me, I can go to work, bring the family from A to B with style but when I finally get out of the city then it really comes to live.. Driving it is really fun, the direct steering , the superb suspension, the always ready to rock engine changes one's navigation preferences and you start to prefer routes with more curves :D I knew the - for me minor - compromises I made when buying the car. You also mention the somewhat smaller legroom in the backseats, I find the shape of the hatch is not optimal when you try to fit in more (even cabin) luggage, consumption can rise up significantly in city traffic. The one thing you mention but I didn't recognize is the overreactive steering, except in strong crosswinds, where other cars can also behave frantically. One more thing I only realize in city stop and go that it is hardly possible to stop the car smoothly - it really doesn't want to stop at all :D
    All in all, It was the best decision to go for the Giulia, this makes boring city rides acceptable and driving in the countryside a fiesta. It fulfills everything that you'd expect from an Alfa Romeo: style and driving fun, a great interior and stunning performance under the hood, I caught myself looking for weekend programs for the family in the countryside just to find an excuse to get out of the city and drive :D

    • @Cliffracer46
      @Cliffracer46 4 года назад

      Did you buy it new? How is it technically? Do the parts feel cheap, or well made? Do you have any problems in tight streets?

    • @pennesalmone6350
      @pennesalmone6350 4 года назад +5

      @@Cliffracer46 Yes I bought it new. The parts have a premium feel and touch everywhere it matters, everything you touch during driving are manufactured of high quality materials and in good quality. The steering wheel, doors, door handles, climate control knobs all have an excellent feel, even the much criticized infotainment knob has a good touch - I guess it was improved since 2016 without waiting for the facelift. The styling of the interior is for me the most beautiful available in sedans anyhow (the designer who integrated the screen into the dashboard should be crowned :) but the leather and the stitching makes it even more stylish and exquisite (as the family council vetoed the sporty black interior I preferred, I've chosen a business look with Montecarlo blue and walnut package with beige leather).
      But as some reviews point it out there are some less obvious places where quality is less premium. The hood opener e.g. as Thomas mentioned, is not a massive piece, the boot door doesn't feel massive either, you probably read about the infotainment (which is nicely improved in the coming facelift) but that's all I found in 3 months. You might have a bit more premium feeling in german cars overall (you can simply feel the decades they've put into development) but in return you get a more boring and less stylish interior in an Audi or BMW.
      As for the technics there is even less that I would like to see improved. Only BMW gets close in driving fun but no other car gives you a comparable feeling when driving. The suspension is simply the best I've seen in this segment. The Giulia goes in curves like a train. Despite the superb stability in curves it can swallow bumps and potholes (and there are a lot of them in Budapest) like a boss. I have 18" alloys maybe the 19" is a bit stiffer but these ones perform amazingly in curves AND give you comfort in normal traffic. I drove a Volvo previously and I felt a pain in every pothole I didn't manage to avoid. The Giu just flattens out any road without loosing grip.
      The ZF gearbox performs really well, if you pick the magic D mode then it is also very quick, in N mode I still use the shift paddles in rare occasions, because the car jumps even better if you prepare the right gear in time (or maybe just because the shift paddle is simply fun to use :) But again in normal driving conditions the gearbox is so fast it will fulfill every need.
      The engine is strong from low revs already , 200 HP is enough for every situation (and much of it comes early) be that going from A to B or occasional fun driving in the country side. It is suprisingly quiet for an Alfa too - I could get used to more engine sound too... Wind noise is ok (though there are better isolated cars on the market) until 170 kmh then it starts to gets louder .
      Minor detail as I mentioned above is that it is hardly possible to stop smoothly at the traffic light. I'm learning how to decrease the push on the brake a bit just before stopping.but this should be improved IMO.
      The only thing I really cannot understand is the missing ability to switch off traction control. It is one thing that there is hardly any situation you would want to do this but in controlled environment I can imagine that some Alfa drivers want to have some fun e.g. in a snowy parking lot. It needs really extreme conditions and the magic D mode to get at least 2 seconds of drift out of the Giulia.
      The other thing is that I was already in a situation where the only chance to get up on a snowy road was to switch off traction control and slowly work up my way with spinning wheels (ok it was a front wheel drive an RWD has probably lost already when you stop). Now so far I can say the Alfa managed every challange flawlessly in the first snowy week (and belive me, road cleaning in Budapest hills is not especially quick) and there were a couple of steep hills I managed without any problem. Maybe Alfa says when a good winter tyre is not enough it is time to take out the snowchains...
      So all in all I really love this car, I made a lot of research before buying it and it was the perfect choice. If you don't want to drive a car everybody else does, you love to drive and you don't want to miss premium interior and style - there is no other option.This is my first Alfa Romeo so I'm not a real Alfista yet but as it stands I will quickly become one...

    Every petrolhead has a soft spot for Alfa Romeo and it seems the Giulia is a real contender these days, particularly for those who want something different. I owned a GT years ago and it certainly wasn’t faultless, but it wasn’t a total disaster either. Mostly it was little silly things, apart from suspension issues that is. The interior quality was actually very good on the whole, soft touch dash etc. The seats were an issue for me: too narrow on the hips and legs, which meant agony after driving a while. Beautiful looking car though. I just hope the dealer service has improved since then. I’d certainly look at a Giulia if I was in the market for a sports saloon, even though I’m a big fan of BMW these days (though not their latest styling). Great review, great car (in a great colour🚙😉😁) and great scenery. Bravo, Thomas! Happy Christmas to you and all the Autogefühl team 🎅🏻🎄

      john collymore it’s a compact sport sedan, not an SUV. I’m 5,7 and got no problem fitting:) Seat height can be adjusted accordingly, it’s not that complicated. I like that it’s not stretched at the back - that makes a car more maneuverable. If you ever decide to get a Giulia, go for a Giulia Ti Sport (or better) an AWD (Q4) with an active suspension and a soft damper function. Totally different driving experience and unbeatable comfort. I am very happy with the car except the leather seats. Because it’s a sports car that is made by the same maker that designed the Ferrari 458. It’s supposed to be an entry model to race/dynamic level. The thing is that you don’t take into consideration that the wagon would add and extra 200kg maybe to the car. Then you have the longer axel and all the problems that come with it. You need to understand that a wagon is not a sports car. Next thing you’ll try to do is the same every second BMW Wagon owner tries to do and that is to use it to race cars specifically designed to have sport/racish dynamics. I hate it when people that drive these wagons try to race me every time they see a sportscar on the road. They put themselves in danger and their families (because in 80% of the cases they are driving someone, have an improperly secured load in the back and so on). So, no you don’t need an almost race car that is a SportsWagon. You have Volvo for that.

      @@asleekgeek What about the Audi RS6 Avant? Porsche Panamera Turbo Shooting Brake? Mercedes CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake? I could go on and on but what im trying to say is, is that they need to at least fit in a market, and that they will buy more of that variant. Now, I can't confirm of people have died from a high power wagon. But the name "Sports wagon" has been used by Alfa since the early 80s, and I just wanted to see them bring back the name for what is known as the fast, stylish, Italian wagon.

      I own a Giulia Veloce (the same petrol version as in the video) since May 2018. Always drive in D mode and I'm definitely not driving as I should at my age (lmao): average consumption is at 10 liters / 100 km. My previous car was a BMW Z4 with 185 hp and I did pretty much the same (with minus 100 hp). If consumption is an issue, this type of car ist not the one you should buy. There are enough Hondas and the like on the market that do that job better. Those customers are really not AR's target group. Discussion closed.

      @@autogefuehl no, but why would you want to be without leather?
      Italian made leather seats last ages - my seats in the delta are 10 years and 277km old. Not done any special cleaning still look stunning, no cracks or false color... Same i can say abou the eige seats on my previous alfa 156....200k km... nothing wrong with them.

      Thanks for the reply! I used to buy leather seats as well before I learned how cruel the industry is and how much harm is involved for animals, humans and the plant :( Then I went in-depth on the topic... check out what the leather industry is trying to do:

      Has nothing to do with the engine actually. Indeed buying used cars is more eco-friendly

      This! Where I live (german Alps) the performance of the Giulia is better than 330i xDrive with M Packet (I have a Veloce Ti Q4, 280 PS). Of course both are amazing cars, but when I tested them in the "Deutsche Alpenstraße" the Giulia won. My Giulia is new but before this facelift, and has the lack of the Infotainment. However, for me it's not important because I had a similar Infotainment in a BMW Serie 6 GC from 2014 and I hate so many screens in cars 🤣
