Love love your dress. I love the daffodil fabric. Daffodils are quite nostalgic for me, My grandfather raised them to sell, acres and acres of them. That pattern hits all the right notes for me. Beautiful!
Ooh wow! What a wonderful memory, I love daffs too, for me they’re all about new beginnings and positivity.
Gorgeous, wafty, pretty dress. you look elegant and comfortable. Love the studio xxx
Thanks, I like the idea of elegant 😀
Just about to start the Montana Midi Dress and found you whilst looking for tips on using the pattern. You mentioned your friends channel and gathering with elastic. I’ve watched it in preparation, it’s such an easy method I look forward to giving it a go!! Thank you for all your help, on with sticking my downloaded pattern together!!!
Love 💖 the dress Alex, looking forward to seeing your ‘new sewing home in the clouds’. Glad the family are all home & safe too take care you xx
Thank you, I’m looking forward to having light 😀. Hope you and yours are all well too ❤️
Happy Birthday, Alex! 🎂🎈🎉 Your dress is so pretty. Good luck with the move this week and thanks for making my day. It's so nice to see you!
Ahhh thank you, that’s so lovely to read 😊
You look absolutely gorgeous in that dress, nice colour hair to and such lovely fabric. I like that you have cut out the bodice so there’s a sprig of flowers on the chest part.
Thank you so much!
I’m watching this rather late. However I was intrigued by your dress on the still of 5e vlog. I too don’t like to dress in joggers and I put makeup on every day during lockdown. Then I feel more like myself. I need to work through fabrics I’m saving. Nowadays in 2023 I’m not getting much sewing done as I haven’t been well and have little energy.
I’m taking it very slowly. I have so many plans though!
It’s amazing that we’re through that time of lockdown. I was recovering from my stroke so didn’t feel so strange not going out😆 it’s wonderful now that so much is back to normal.
I think your dress is lovely and really suits you. I feel similarly over gathering and made a 3 tiered dress last year for a young girl. The gathering was major. I made it in lightweight denim and it was lovely. Unfortunately children grow out of things so fast and it was very labour intensive.
Yellow sandals will look great!😊Ruth
Totally love the dress
That print is absolutely lovely! The whole dress ours gorgeous. Wonderful execution of a great idea.
Oh Alex, thank you so much for the shout out, so glad the elastic method worked. It's a beautiful dress perfect for spring. I hope the sewing room move goes well, you may unearth some treasures while you're at it. I'm drowning in scrub making too, just taking a break to make a dress inspired by the bee & have filmed my 2nd video, hoping I can resolve the sound this time! It's a huge learning curve but I'm not short on time now!
It’s lovely to see you Sam and hear your fab Yorkshire twang 😁
Love the dress. This weather certainly makes you want to do summer sewing. I’ve had the weekend off sewing scrubs and made the Stella joggers for my daughter and a dinosaur tee shirt for the grandson. Must do something for me next.
Definitely good to break up the scrub sewing, but yes don’t forget yourself too 😀
I found this vlog really interesting and such a beautiful dress but after a while I started counting how many times you said Erm!!!!!
I love what you’ve done with the Montana! It’s a lovely bodice and it looks gorgeous on you! Beautiful fabric as always xx
Thank you Kristen 🙏🏻
You look lovely in your dress.❤️❤️❤️
Oh thank you!
So good to see you Alex so cheerful and always interested to hear what you’ve been up to. Happy birthday for last week. We celebrated m6 daughters over Easter with a picnic in the garden on a hot sunny day. Glad it wasn’t last year as it was her 21st! Love the dress looks so summery and easy to wear. Looking forward to seeing your new sewing space.
Mashup dress is gorgeous! It looks super comfy💗👍
Thanks, it definitely is 😀
Lovely dress. Very soft and feminine! Have a wonderful day! Christine :D
Thank you ☺️
Establish where on the seam you want your pocket to be. Attach each separate half of the pocket to the front & back seam ensuring they are in the same place on each side, then join the sides & pocket pieces together & as you stitch the side seams go around the pocket & down to the hem.. Add reinforcement across the seam at the top & bottom of the pocket opening if necessary.
The dress looks lovely. Very light & airy on hot days.
Love your dress and the fabric
Thank you 😊
Happy birthday! I love that dress!!
Thanks Amanda, I could be converted to florals 😀
Beautiful dress. I made the Montana dress a couple of years ago and never really liked it. It looked like a tent on me. I am going to go down a size and re-make it. Take care.
Thank you, ‘oversized’ = tent 😁
Hi I have just finished making this and I extended the arms by about 1 1/2 inches and was glad I did. It is rather voluminous and like you I considered putting bust darts under the bust but have decided to stick with it as it is. I do like the pattern though.
Great idea to extend the arms, we can always put a dart in another time 😀
Love the fabric that you used for your dress xx
Thank you, I don’t wear florals too much, but couldn’t resist this one 😀
Love the dress...it's so pretty! I'm like you...a bit burned out on the old scrubs. Made nearly 20 sets over two week so have taken some time away and adjusted the SOI Eve dress pattern. I'm getting some more scrubs fabric tomorrow but I've enjoyed doing other things for a few days. Looking forward to seeing your wardrobe from last summer. Xx
The burn out is so easily done isn’t it?I was so keen to do my bit but it’s no good in the long term. I’m glad you’re taking a break, we should enjoy the good weather while we’ve got it ❤️
@@AlexJudgeSews I've really enjoyed the beautiful weather. Definitely going to slow the scrubs sewing down this week!
Beautiful dress, well done!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Looks lovely, thank you for sharing
Thank you 🙏🏻
Love the dress and the lovely light in your shed ... can you not have your sewing room in there 😘
😀 I have hinted, but he’s spent so much time making it his own it doesn’t seem fair ❤️
Love that dress
Thank you so much, I wore it yesterday in the heat its just perfect for wafting around on a hot day 💛💜💚
I'm sewing the Montana and have got stuck. Can you recommend a video that shows how to do a double bodice. I've looked on Style Arch's website to see if there's a tutorial, but can't see anything. Searched RUclips and can't find anything that shows how to do this, but I'll keep looking.
Love what you've done with combining the two dresses. Beautiful material.
I used the burrito method, here’s a link, but if you search you’ll find others ruclips.net/video/aHKgIllmYoU/видео.html. Hope it helps 😀
the dress looks lovely Alex, would look great with your yellow sandals and a denim jacket (when you're allowed out!)
Thank you, good idea, I threw out my old and way too small denim jacket recently maybe I could make one 💡
Hi, well I am catching up on videos, slightly, less than 2 weeks behind now. Yes, I feel much better if I make an effort in my dress than if I stay in my scruffs all day! I have been sewing scrubs for the hospital in Blackpool. Don't get me wrong, I am pleased to be able to help, but they are much more time consuming than I thought they would be. As you know, they have to be well made and there is a lot of sewing. Still, it is the least that I can do. Apparently, they are over subscribed with sewers so when I have done these 5 sets I will go to the bottom of the list and have a break. Love that summer dress that you made, let's hope that we get plenty of sunshine for you to wear it, we haven't done badly this week. Thank you for doing these videos.
Christine I felt the same, which is why I’ve slowed down now. I made about 11 sets in total and was feeling guilty for want to stop. Then I found myself telling someone else who was feeling overwhelmed by scrubs to stop for a bit and be kind to herself and realised that I should take my own advice 😀. Take some time to enjoy the lovely weather ☀️
@@AlexJudgeSews Hi 11 sets, I couldn't do so many. I know that I am a good bit older than you and I get tired after a few hours but well done you. Yes, I am going to stop at 5 for now, may do some in a few weeks if they are still needed.
I'd love a podcast list! I feel like I've listed to them all already. ;)
Will do, you can’t have listen to them all, there’s millions of them 😀
The dress is so lovely!
First: Congratulation with your Birthday. 🎉 Next, totally agree with the benefit of getting dressed in proper cloth while we’re stuck at home. Also: I learned to do the gathering in increments. So instead of sewing the gathering stitches over the whole of the length, do it in smaller sections. Much easier to get even gathers and less risk of breaking the thread. Curious about the trick with elastic. Will have look. 💕
Increments sound sensible although time consuming 😀. I think my old machine has a gathering foot, I should probably look into how that works.
So pretty!
Jaycotts are good for thread and all haberdashery. Quite quick for delivery. Love the dress.
Thanks Maggie, I’ve never used Jaycotts sounds like it’s time to give them a try.
Love the dress.🐯
Thanks Lorraine ❤️
Love this dress, I too have made the Montana dress, such a feminine dress, I feel so pretty in it!! I do as well hate “gathering “!!😏 I went to the gal you suggested but there are So many videos, could you please pinpoint which one has the elastic tutorial?!! I subscribed to her channel as well! Thanks
Ooh it was one of her first vlogs, I’ll ask her on Instagram and come back to you 👍🏻👍🏻
Alex Judge Sews did you find it?
I love the dress Alex, I was just thinking I need some mid length floatiness in my life, I think its the weather. This ones too high necked for my boobs though. The back pain has eased up a bit so I might do a bit of sewing next week, however my husband has taken over my “shed” (spare room) to work from so I’d need to plan what I need the evening before. Good luck with the sewing room move x
Yeah I don’t have the boob issue, you definitely don’t want a bodice without darts either! Glad your back is better, but go slowly sewing can make it a lot worse 😀
The dress is fabulous. Love it! Caroline R-G
Thanks Caroline ❤️
Beautiful dress
Can you get the Wishing Girl Blouse instructions in English, I would love to make it.
No, only in English I’m afraid
Love the dress 😊
Hi Alex, I was just enjoying you're latest Friday Sews episode, blinked and it had flipped to this episode - I had seen it way back when, but had forgotten that I'd bought these patterns after seeing your fabulous mash of the 2. I hate hate hate gathering too, I just can't ever get them even. I remember seeing Rosie from Sewn using clear elastic to gather a dress (think it was a Seamwork dress) Anyhoo, all that to ask - (if I can) How does it feel to have the elastic in the bottom tiers? I'm sure I won't mind it at the waist, but is it ok further down? I really think your dress is maybe the nicest summer breezy dress I've maybe ever seen. Thank you for all of your input. Hugs from Sussex. xxx
Hi Maria, even though it’s more feminine than my usual thing I really love this dress, am looking forward to the weather being warm enough for me to wear it again 🤞🏻 With regard to the elastic, I use it within the seam allowance so it gets removed when I overlock the seams. It’s purely a vehicle to avoid manual gathering (which I still hate). Hope that makes sense.❤️❤️
I use elastic instead of gathering as well! I cannot gathering properly for the life of me! HBD Alex!
I can’t believe I didn’t know about it before, it’s definitely a better method ❤️
I can’t identify which of Sam Chandlers videos has the elastic gathering section. Could you help out?
Making It Through I think it was her first one?
I’m like you. I need to dress properly ie not joggers /sweatpants/ tshirts. It helps my state of mind.
Yeah for me not getting dressed is like not brushing your teeth 😀
I really don't know how to sew the bodice. The instructions are not very good. Can you help
I’ll have a look at the pattern to remind myself, if you let me know which instruction your stuck on I’ll see if I can help.
If you’re on Instagram you could send me a direct message
XXX👍👍👍
So disappointed, this post is called ‘Sewing a Summer Dress’ but it was almost 7 minutes before any mention was made about the dress and then no comments/advice about sewing this dress.
I’m glad I read your comment I’m out of here.
OK, love the accent. However, get on with it! I learned nothing from this video.
You talk way to much
