It’s soothing to watch your bristles swish and sway. I’m amazed that these could be a size 4 and 0. They look like 12 and 6 Princeton. I want to orde4 and try the Grabie, but have too many brushes already!
I have a ton of brushes myself, so I totally get it! And yes, the Grabie brand brushes are larger in size, you’re probably pretty accurate in saying they are close to the Princeton 12 and 6! Thank you for all your kindness and support, I truly appreciate you! Have a wonderful weekend. 🥰

Liesl...This tutorial I watched today to give me inspiration for my next try out tutorial!!...While I am painting I usually I am watching your tutorials ..I have been painting for at least three months now...Nobody knew this except my husband as I always go to him and get encouragement as how I was doing with my paintings... recently my sons found out I was painting as would send my paintings to family with greetings below....was pleasantly surprised at their reactions...loads of praise and encouragement! ..of course my sons are now coming in on Mommy`s paintings.... to their amazement... what they discovered was that I wasn`t using any of the techniques while watching tutorials🤭...... I also realised that of myself in many of my disciplines that I cant seem to follow step by step techniques... some how my paintings is what I naturally come out with...this of how I am painting is met with much amusement!!!..Today I thought I am going to try in between to follow you in a similar fashion to your tutorials..have to..there are amazing techniques I can learn and apply to lead my paintings to be more professional...Thank you for your beautiful and inspirational tutorials!!!!

Very pretty! How do you keep your background so crisp against the focal image? I always mess that up.
Thank you! I’m so happy to hear you liked this. 🥰 As far as the background goes, sometimes I wait to paint the water/paint right up to the pencil lines or focal image until after the initial wash is quickly put down, then while the wash of paint is still wet, I’ll use a smaller brush to spread the paint more slowly and carefully up to the pencil lines which creates a nice crips line. I’m not sure if you watched the whole tutorial, but at about the 3:45 mark I show this a little better. 😊 I hope this helps! Thank you for watching today, happy painting!

Liesl, what a delight to watch you draw. Thank you. Your gentle tone of voice adds to the joy of watching you paint. When I began drawing, my love was abstract, and it was primarily black ink on bright white paper. I still love abstract, it has a "stream of consciousness" healing effect in my inner being, but after a while I began adding color by using color pencils. Then I purchased watercolor pencils, and they are so much fun. Now, I finally dared, and I purchased a nice set of watercolor paints, and I feel ready to move forward with watercolor painting. I find watercoloring so intimidating, but I am willing to jump in and learn. You are inspiring. Air hugs to you.
I love that you are going to give watercolor painting a try! 🥰 It sounds like the steps you’ve taken to get to this point are just right, done in a way that you feel comfortable with, and that is important! Painting with watercolors can take a bit of practice, so don’t get discouraged if it takes a little while to get the hang of it, however, they are SO much fun!!! I think you’ll love it! 😊 They have become my favorite medium to paint with even though I wasn’t very good with them at first! Gorgeous! I’m hoping to try this very soon. A question though. When you painted wet on wet for the petals it looks like you had pool of water on the petal. I thought this was a no no. That you as avoid puddles on the paper? I’m very new to watercolor so watching tons of videos trying to learn.
I’m glad you like it! And thank you for your question. I’d have to go back and look at it to know what you’re referring to exactly, large pools can potentially be a problem. For me I use more or less water depending on how much I’m trying to get the paint to spread, so because I was trying to make this piece soft and light, I may have used more water initially, however I do make sure to spread the water and paint throughout the area enough so in the end it doesn’t pool.
