I’m fairly new to painting and even though it was challenging your teaching made it doable. I was shocked I was able to paint this and it actually looks good (for a newbie). Now my only problem is that my mom, mother in law , and daughter in law all declared it would be perfect in their homes! They each want me to paint them one 😮) Please continue to branch out into other types of pieces like this one. Your flowers are stunning as well, but this was a lovely change. Absolutely amazing. You’re right Liesl!!! This is such a treat! I love that you not only have a landscape, but also included florals. 😊 This is sooooo amazingly stunning! It does look a little challenging, but with your encouragement and explanations of how you’re painting it and the color mixes used will be so helpful. Breaking the tutorial down into small portions makes it seem more doable. I love the window view of the ocean! The curtains have great movement as well! Absolutely love this painting! Your teaching and method is incredibly relaxed - wet on dry is such a “relief” to the all action wet in wet sheet of paper and having to be quick 🥵. Love it and will definitely have a go - big thanks 🙏

A beautiful painting, Liesl, as ever, with lovely subtle colours. I can see this would be quite difficult and time consuming but certainly fun to try. The curtains would seem to be the most tricky if you wanted to avoid the "painting by numbers" look and get the natural blended folded look. I think I'd try painting those as a practice piece first on scrap paper of the same brand. I particularly love the vase of flowers. Practicing the curtains on a scrap piece of paper to get the hang of it sounds like a great idea! @@lieslsartisticstudio I've been writing some birthday cards today which I painted based on your tutorials and I used diox purple for the "ink". I tend to use watercolour paint for my calligraphy as I can match it to the cards. 🥰

I’m glad you ask. Normally I take my own reference photos, but I saw an image similar to this as an oil painting on Pinterest a while back, (I’m not 100% sure, but there is a good chance it was AI generated) and loved the idea, so I created my own version of what I saw to paint using watercolors.

Hmm I think that you would have to be painting for quite a while before tackling the painting let alone drawing it. Very pretty well done piece of art Liesl.

Hi! That is a great question. Pencil marks are definitely a tricky thing! They usually don’t bother me personally too much, and I often still have some slightly visible in my paintings, but there are a few things you can try that might help a little bit. Sometimes I do take a good eraser to the pencil lines that are still showing when I’m done with a painting, sometimes it helps and sometimes not! (When the pencil lines are covered with paint they don’t erase very well.) Just make sure your painting is 100% dry before trying it though so you don’t risk smearing all your hard work! 😅 Sometimes I like to just lighten up the pencil marks before I even start painting so that they are not as noticeable later. I use what’s called a kneaded eraser to take off any loose graphite to help with this. Here’s a video that explains what I mean…go to about the 2:15 mark ruclips.net/video/MCLuac0Tg9E/видео.htmlsi=923BuU4ROQiavphk I don’t really do this myself, but I have also heard of people using water soluble led/ink, or watercolor pencils to draw the outline with so that the drawing just blends into the painting when it gets wet. Thank you for asking the question Nancy! I have 2 ways that I like to lightly trace with a pencil outlines onto my watercolor paper. The more “fancy” way is to use a light box/light table. I show what it is and how to use it in the video link I’ll list below. However, a lot of people don’t have light tables, they can be expensive, but before I had a light table I used to trace outlines using just a well lit window in my house. I also show an example of that, which I will also list below. Hope this helps! Is your table faux wood? I find i have to break the size on arches smooth water color paper, do you stretch your paper? Very nice work, do you ever use friskit?
Hi! Lots of questions today…my table is real wood that has been heavily coated with protective paint and varnish, I don’t usually take the time to stretch my paper, (though I know a lot of people like to do that, usually the tape I use helps with the warping enough for what I need, but it’s really a matter of preference and you should do what you like. 😊) And I do occasionally use Masking Fluid, which I believe is very similar or has the same purpose as Frisket. A beautiful painting, Liesl, as ever, with lovely subtle colours. I can see this would be quite difficult and time consuming but certainly fun to try. The curtains would seem to be the most tricky if you wanted to avoid the "painting by numbers" look and get the natural blended folded look. I think I'd try painting those as a practice piece first on scrap paper of the same brand. I particularly love the vase of flowers. @@lieslsartisticstudio I've been writing some birthday cards today which I painted based on your tutorials and I used diox purple for the "ink". I tend to use watercolour paint for my calligraphy as I can match it to the cards. 🥰

I’m glad you ask. Normally I take my own reference photos, but I saw an image similar to this as an oil painting on Pinterest a while back, (I’m not 100% sure, but there is a good chance it was AI generated) and loved the idea, so I created my own version of what I saw to paint using watercolors.

Beautiful! Do you remove the pencil marks after you paint, if so how do you do it? Thank you for a great tutorial.
Hi! That is a great question. Pencil marks are definitely a tricky thing! They usually don’t bother me personally too much, and I often still have some slightly visible in my paintings, but there are a few things you can try that might help a little bit. Sometimes I do take a good eraser to the pencil lines that are still showing when I’m done with a painting, sometimes it helps and sometimes not! (When the pencil lines are covered with paint they don’t erase very well.) Just make sure your painting is 100% dry before trying it though so you don’t risk smearing all your hard work! 😅 Sometimes I like to just lighten up the pencil marks before I even start painting so that they are not as noticeable later. I use what’s called a kneaded eraser to take off any loose graphite to help with this. I don’t really do this myself, but I have also heard of people using water soluble led/ink, or watercolor pencils to draw the outline with so that the drawing just blends into the painting when it gets wet. Hope these ideas help a little bit! Happy painting my friend. ❤️

Thank you for asking the question Nancy! I have 2 ways that I like to lightly trace with a pencil outlines onto my watercolor paper. The more “fancy” way is to use a light box/light table. I show what it is and how to use it in the video link I’ll list below. However, a lot of people don’t have light tables, they can be expensive, but before I had a light table I used to trace outlines using just a well lit window in my house. Hi! Lots of questions today…my table is real wood that has been heavily coated with protective paint and varnish, I don’t usually take the time to stretch my paper, (though I know a lot of people like to do that, usually the tape I use helps with the warping enough for what I need, but it’s really a matter of preference and you should do what you like. 😊) And I do occasionally use Masking Fluid, which I believe is very similar or has the same purpose as Frisket. When you paint the lower half of the window the ocean. Are you painting wet on wet?
