    With old tapes always FF to the end and rewind. Do this twice. What it does is this: 1) Repacks/retensions the tape around the reel, and redistributes the dry lube that is inside the case. The dry lube is there for a reason.
    Hope this helps!

    Space is the biggest problem for us Retro Warriers. There was a guy on RUclips I think his channel was Chris 93A who had Commodores Stacked everywhere in a multilevel house and in his garage. Now that was a person who made me feel good about my lack of space issue. I was looking at the C16 and C116 today thinking of adding them to my collection not so much to use but to display on my wall as I am about to Print Some Wall Mounts from my unused systems and yes, they all work but I can only set up so many.

    • @10MARC
      @10MARC  Год назад

      Space is not a big issue for me. I just have to kick out the two remaining kids living here, and have my wife move out to the shed. Then I will have plenty of room in the house! 🤣🤣

      Cool! I look forward to seeing which ones work well and are fun. Some of the games I have seen try to hard to just run it like on a C64, and that won't work... They should have coded them to the strengths of the machine like the nice color palette.

    I know Angela's expression very well, it's the same blank look I get when I tell my friends and family about my retro hobby. :(
    Nice score with the disk drive and all of the tapes along with a working TED machine. You could always try converting the drive to 110v by swapping parts from a 1541... (The 8-bit Guy has a video showing how he converted his)

    Angela is a clone of my cat her name is Kitty, they have same exact eyes , same exact colors same everything, also the light spot on the same paw, but my Kitty has no tail, not a trace of tail,like she was born without tail? Dont know, i found her searching for food in a trashcan some years ago, always wondered what kind of cat she is. Nice vid as always btw
    At some point c16 must have had some popularity, because the cassettes that were sold with magazines at newspaper kiosks started to have a side dedicated to C16/Plus4 games (usually side B), side B was always dedicated to Sinclair 48k, but then started to pop up some cassettes whose side B was dedicated to C16/plus4. Side A was always dedicated to C64/128 naturally : ) There was a timeframe window where there was no anti piracy software laws in Italy, so small publishers sold (for some time, until the anti piracy law) perfectly "legal" cassettes with pirated games, with the name and title changed via software, at newspaper kiosks. We kids bought a lot of those cassettes, they had low prices. The name of these "collane" ("series" of books, cassettes, videos ecc. in italian) is impressed in the head of every kid of early '80s who had a computer (mostly commodores, few sinclairs, scarce msx) in Italy: Logica 2000, Formula 64, Peek, Poke, Tutto C64, Special C64 etc. etc. nice times, no responsability, no problems, happiness was just to go to news kiosk on sundays and buy new number of a kid magazine with a plastic gadget, or a new number of a game cassette for C64, or even earlier, for Vic 20, my first cassettes bought were for my first computer, the Vic 20, then C64 and 128

    From what I heard, the custom chips in the C16, Plus4 & Co have the tendency to "kill themselfs" over time, even when not powered on. Due to MOS useing too much acid during their production run.

    • @10MARC

      Yes, the TED chip can be quite sensitive. One of my thoughts is that this gives me a spare set of Chips if my Plus/4 goes belly-up

    I had a C64 but I always envied the improvements they made on C16/+4 line. Better basic, more colors, faster disk drive. I know they were trying to be economical but I wish they kept or improved the SID/VIC as well.

    The first tape not loading might be because you typed LOAD "*" -- I did exactly the same thing myself the first few times. You need to just type LOAD.
    BTW ?DS$ will get you the error message back from the 1551. It'll help when you come to diagnose the problem. ( ?DS will get you just the error number)

    The North American C16 manual is a joke compared to the Plus/4 version, let along the Netherlands C16 manual you showed. Very few programming examples, no BASIC or other programming references -- a clear after thought. Bil Herd mentioned that the C16 was essentially put together to liquidate TED chips, so it isn't a surprise that the manual was so poor. The Plus/4 manual is fantastic, and with a little work, could have had some sections removed or edited for distribution with the C16.

    • @10MARC
