I thought engineering isn't for me after watching all the guru content out there. But after watching this and listening to this daily my work is my work and my style of programming is simple and I'm like Commodore64. And I don't need any 9-5 to confirm that I am an engineer and I don't need any degree!
@MachinesTakingOverTheWorld many college grads can't even use git(not that I'm saying you have to). So I can imagine if many don't meet the bar set by their own industry for doing software development then they are probably often lacking in many other departments. Of course the passionate ones with a degree make it work and learn just like those who don't have one. You have to spend more time doing this kind of work than what your courses or job tell you to if you want to be great.
I think it's the down to earth Terry, he's so honest and genuine it's healing. We live in a world with so much fake things that this is like a breath of fresh air
29:35 "This is not an interpreter. This is not bytecode. This is machine code. x86 machine code." Making a JIT 'compiler' is impressive but I never understood why Terry was always bringing it up until the above statement. I've always thought, most languages have JIT quote/unquote 'compilers' nowadays so why Terry always bringing up his JIT compiler as if its more special? The above comment made everything click. Its because most languages JIT compilers are compiling some form of "bytecode" into machine code then executing it. "Bytecode" is what the developer gets after compiling their actually written code. It is done aheadoftime AOT into a file like .object file(c) or a .class file(java). Terry's JIT compiler 'skips' the "bytecode" step. TempleOS is compiling the actually written code directly into machine code then executing it, there is no "bytecode" middleman .object file or .class file like in all other languages. OR you could say that Terry's bytecode is the entire OS(as in the OS is the 1 and only .object/.class file) when you first initially install the OS. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
10:11 unfortunately the point of tongues being in unknown language is that the enemy cannot comprehend/understand it and its prsying the perfect sill of god and not relying on a psuedo-randomly selected word from a word bank
These are so therapeutic

it may not be "speaking in tongues" but it does fit in with the spiritual/religious origins games of chance, tarot, drawing lots, dice, ouja etc
