Kenny, hope you feel better soon. I replaced an engine for someone thought that the oil must be ok since the car is running fine..... Of course 2 years later they forgot the lesson and hand grenaded the replacement engine. There was maybe 2 cups of oil each time. The timing chain lost tension due to no oil pressure..... I couldn't resist taking them both apart to see the carnage.
When I was volunteering for an organisation about 8 years ago I was driving a 2010 model Toyota Hilux which they didn't service for 22,000 kilometres or 14,000 miles & I checked the dipstick & it showed up as having no oil in it. It ran the 4 litre 1GR-FE V6 engine & we had to buy more oil for it, the engine took 5 litres of oil (about 1 US gallon & 1 pint) to bring the oil level back to the full mark. They did get it.servjced but after I left them, they apparently did the same thing again & the engine blew up. Note I change the full synthetic oil & filter in my car engine at 6000 miles or 10,000 kilometres,I did add 1 litre (1 pint) oil at 3000 miles or 5000 kilometres but. The oil comes out clean,I changed it once every 3000 miles or 5000 kilometres with regular engine oil but the price of full synthetic oil is about &?$80 AUD or more for a 6 litre bottle which I buy whenever there's a sale on for $20 AUD less !

It's 85 euro for 20lt of 5w/30 fully synthetic what ever that is in dolers
Owners manual: First thing I do after buying a new car is to read it cover to cover. Now though they don't provide a hard copy any more. You can get em but it's a hassle. So you have to read it online or from a DVD. Still has very useful stuff in it.
This is unacceptable!! Unacceptable on any vehicle, but on a Toyota!! If you ONLY change the oil every 12mos/5k miles this truck would hit 250k no problem runnin like it did the day it drove off the lot. Sad sad sad. Feel better brother! Prayers for you and your family!! God bless~
I live in the UK and generally only do about 8,000 miles a year, mostly local running around trips. It's only a little 900cc, 3 cylinder turbo engine in a 2018 car so it gets worked but not flogged. It gets a yearly oil change whether it needs it or not. To quote a fellow You Tuber we don't want any of that "Forbidden Glitter' in the engine oil. I do take it out 3 or 4 times a month and do some 'back road driving' to work it through the higher rev range. It gives the valve train a bit of a workout.
I Always had arguments with the volkswagen dealer when I wanted the oil changed. Ahd then there was the chevy dealer who wanted it changed every 3000 but I think actually did it every 6000. When I do it myself,I know its done.
several of my familiy members have Toyotas and the dealer insists they can go 10k on oil changes which in my experience is way too much. all my personal vehicles get 3k oil changes even with full synthetic.
Wow! A 500k truck only made it to 100k because of no maintenance. Kinda just shows how well Toyotas are made to go that long on that kinda abuse. Hope you get to feeling better soon. Thanks for the video!
Wow that’s crazy I own a 2003 dodge ram Cummins I currently have 273,000 Kms on it I change my oil every 5,000 k or every 3 months and I only drive about 10 15,000 a year cheap insurance good video 👍
You sounded like you should have stayed home in bed for the first half of this video! Glad you're feeling better and looking forward to more videos from you in 2024.
I have a Civic that sees very little use... I do it's oil by calendar, every 120 days. Sometimes it barely exceeds 1k miles between changes. Those short trips are especially tough on engines.
I'm not with you on changing the oil every 3-4k miles, but I am with you on keeping an eye on your oil level. I know of too many times when the oil level has dropped due to either the engine burning oil (rings, stuck egr valve, etc.) or oil leaks and then that leads to engine failure. I really think that the manufacturers should have an oil level sensor installed in the engines to let people know when their oil is low. By the time the oil pressure falls, it's too late. The also need to plaster a message such as "OIL CHANGE REQUIRED!" in front of the driver after 7500 or 10k miles. Actually, many manufacturers use an algorithm which analyzes the duty cycle to calculate when an oil change is required. My 1988 GM Toronado had that feature, why doesn't everyone use that now? Actually, both of my cars (2010 and 2017) let me know when I need to change the oil. Do people just ignore it? Have the car go into a reduced power mode until the oil is changed. Have the customer push a "dismiss" button every time they start the car until the oil is changed. Put a reset button on the oil filter flange. There are lots of things that could be done. But I think that just having a low oil level sensor (for say, 1 qt low) would be a huge step in the right direction.
Yea how is it not standard equipment on all vehicles to have an oil level sensor. It makes no sense with how expensive an engine is to replace. Especially in 2024 with how far technology has advanced.
I'm right there with you on the oil changes. I figure that as long as the 5w30 in my Corolla and Tacoma is still honey colored, I'll stick to 5k with lull synthetic. The newer cars with 0w anything, are INSANE! Back to "fill the oil and check the gas please"....
I had an uncle who was really cheap. He would put a new filter and strain the old oil before putting it back in the engine. He thought oil is oil and that was that. He would also complain that his car would burn oil, but needless to say, his cars didn't last long and you could not change his mind about it.
I drain clean oil at 5K. the only time i've changed short of 5K is on a car not driven that far in 6 months, or the OC after a flush. I haven't experienced an engine failure of any sort in a lifetime of driving and maintaining vehicles.
The debate on how many miles before one should change it continues. I believe the customer said it might be 50000 miles on this truck. The only way to be sure is to have the oil analyzed. 3k miles has long been proven to be a waste of time and money. I have never seen any synthetic not last at least 7k-8k via oil reports from blackstone, usually longer.
My father had a Plymouth Satellite for ten years and never changed the oil. Only reason he got rid of it was because of a accident. He did have the gas attendant add a quart every now and then
I change my oil every 3k regardless! It's why my 01 Yukon has 335K on it and it's still running like New my wife always says she doesn't know it's running until I start to drive. I only use Mobile One or Royal Purple in it. Yes it's not cheap but it's cheaper than an engine I don't have a place to swap myself.
Watch the 1.5 million mile Tacoma video. He scrapped the first engine at 850,000 miles because the head gasket rusted through and the garage would not guarantee the head gasket job with that mileage. The second engine was going stront at 1.5 million. This was the 4 cyl
Is this the legendary 2TR-FE cast iron block 4 cylinder? It's a shame they didn't change the oil enough. The cast iron block 2tr-fe toyota engine can last 400,000 miles if you change the oil. It's so simple and so bullet proof. I purposely ordered one of the last ones ever made in my Tacoma because I knew they would stop making them.
I dont want to brag but my old 97 Ranger no has 375,000 on the OD granted it has "Many" issues but the engine gets an oil change every 4 to 5 thousand and still has all original gaskets. The front end sucks and the TTB suspension/ 4x4 requires bushings and grease above and beyond the norm, but its like trying to explain why you need to wear shows while walking on broken glass... Just do it.
I preach to everyone.. please just take a few seconds and check your oil every couple of weeks. And I’m also a big believer in oil changes every 5k or less, I don’t care what the manufacturer says. Especially if you drive in heavy traffic or harsh conditions, you should NOT be going 10k between changes. That drives me crazy
I used to change my oil every 2000 miles. Ran like a top until I sold it at 210k miles. This was back in the 90s. Hes right, every engine burns oil. I have a toyota that like to consume oil. Needs a quart every month, kinda a pain but its a running engine. Been like that since 100k miles and now its over 200k.
@@joet4806 the one running like a top was a 1993 toyota celica 1.6 engine. The other was a 2012 scion xb 4 cylinder. There was a recall for the rings but I ignored it. Smart I know, sold it not long ago. Told the guy to chk the oil every month.
Prevention is cheaper than Correction..If using 100% Synthetic Oil as a Minimum, change your oil every 7k, on Turbo vehicles every 5k. Oil is cheap, engine repair is expensive.

Of course 2 years later they forgot the lesson and hand grenaded the replacement engine. There was maybe 2 cups of oil each time. The timing chain lost tension due to no oil pressure..... I couldn't resist taking them both apart to see the carnage.
Thanks to you, I cut open all of my oil filters.
i think i'm gonna start too.
Hi Kenny watching here in Ireland I'm just doing a service on my daughters car a hyundai tuson and like your self I can't stress it enough about oil changes I have to physically check it myself and iv got 6 cars to look after I'm not a trained macanic but I've been doing it for nearly 50 years and I been running a heavy equipment hire for 35 years so I know how important oil changes are and all modern cars have warning lights on service intervals but they just ignore them and drive on some of our kids take their car for service they don't want to be bothering me I don't trust any service stations here in Ireland oil has gone up a lot but its still cheaper than an engine.
GM 3.6 and 2.4 engines are another, timing chain problems from neglect and oil changes not done on time
This is unacceptable!! Unacceptable on any vehicle, but on a Toyota!! If you ONLY change the oil every 12mos/5k miles this truck would hit 250k no problem runnin like it did the day it drove off the lot. Sad sad sad.
Feel better brother! Prayers for you and your family!!
God bless~
Bummer for the owner. They can eat the cost of a new engine now.
@@mph5896 yeah most certainly they will. Sad part is they probably won’t learn anything from this ordeal either.
It gives the valve train a bit of a workout.
they EARNED that bill.a hell of an expensive lesson.NO SYMPATHY for neglect.glad your feeling better bud.
I have been changing my oil every 5000 miles for the past 20 years and never had a problem Will continue to do it that way.
I Always had arguments with the volkswagen dealer when I wanted the oil changed.
Ahd then there was the chevy dealer who wanted it changed every 3000 but I think actually did it every 6000.
When I do it myself,I know its done.
That's what the I Do Cars guy calls "Forbidden Glitter"!
several of my familiy members have Toyotas and the dealer insists they can go 10k on oil changes which in my experience is way too much. all my personal vehicles get 3k oil changes even with full synthetic.
Wow! A 500k truck only made it to 100k because of no maintenance. Kinda just shows how well Toyotas are made to go that long on that kinda abuse. Hope you get to feeling better soon. Thanks for the video!
Glad your better
Wow that’s crazy I own a 2003 dodge ram Cummins I currently have 273,000 Kms on it I change my oil every 5,000 k or every 3 months and I only drive about 10 15,000 a year cheap insurance good video 👍
I found it funny when automated captions said [Music] when that motor started up 😂
You sounded like you should have stayed home in bed for the first half of this video! Glad you're feeling better and looking forward to more videos from you in 2024.
I have a Civic that sees very little use... I do it's oil by calendar, every 120 days. Sometimes it barely exceeds 1k miles between changes. Those short trips are especially tough on engines.
OCD for sure. You could go a year between oil changes.
That's good
Yea how is it not standard equipment on all vehicles to have an oil level sensor.
Feel better!😢
Back in 2020 the Tundra cost between $35,000 - $53,000.
How much does oil/filter change cost?
Kenny says it's a 2020, but that dash screams 1996. 🤣
Typical Toyota garbage
Oil changes are cheaper than an engine. Don’t forget the trans either.
Change mine every year. I have a diesel so should be 6 months but I don't do many miles.
I changed my oil religiously, but I still got an engine failure. I changed it every 3 months with my wife's oil !
What kind of engine and what failed?
I had an uncle who was really cheap. He would put a new filter and strain the old oil before putting it back in the engine. He thought oil is oil and that was that. He would also complain that his car would burn oil, but needless to say, his cars didn't last long and you could not change his mind about it.
I drain clean oil at 5K. the only time i've changed short of 5K is on a car not driven that far in 6 months, or the OC after a flush. I haven't experienced an engine failure of any sort in a lifetime of driving and maintaining vehicles.
Some people opt to skip oil changes and just change the engine. 😉
Kenny I hope you get to feeling better. You and your wife.
10k miles toyota recommended engine oil change. I have a 19 Taco, I do every 5k on mine. 0W-20.
My father had a Plymouth Satellite for ten years and never changed the oil. Only reason he got rid of it was because of a accident. He did have the gas attendant add a quart every now and then
Can't find something that you just had, typical mechanic situation!
It amazes me that someone purchases a brand new vehicle and spends all that hard earned money and then they’re too lazy to change the oil!
Thank you for making this video. what is the approx cost of a Replacement Engine? New or Rebuilt?
Is this the legendary 2TR-FE cast iron block 4 cylinder? It's a shame they didn't change the oil enough. The cast iron block 2tr-fe toyota engine can last 400,000 miles if you change the oil. It's so simple and so bullet proof. I purposely ordered one of the last ones ever made in my Tacoma because I knew they would stop making them.
what a shame, brand new truck too.
3 years old with over 100,000 miles ???? thats been drove hard and put away wet
3-4000 miles, for sure! Even with full synthetic. Cheap insurance.
There is a reason why oil filters have a by-pass valve. For the people who don’t service their maintenance schedule on time.
I religiously change the oil every 5000 kilometres (Canada, eh?) which works out to about 3100 miles. 5 k increments are easy to see on the odometer.
Hang in there...good luck on change out. Jasper or scrap yard?
I dont want to brag but my old 97 Ranger no has 375,000 on the OD granted it has "Many" issues but the engine gets an oil change every 4 to 5 thousand and still has all original gaskets. The front end sucks and the TTB suspension/ 4x4 requires bushings and grease above and beyond the norm, but its like trying to explain why you need to wear shows while walking on broken glass...
Just do it.
I go 5k on my 04 ram with the 5.7. The key is to heat it up once a week at minimum to burn off the moisture
Been like that since 100k miles and now its over 200k.
what Toyota Engine do you have?
@@joet4806 the one running like a top was a 1993 toyota celica 1.6 engine. The other was a 2012 scion xb 4 cylinder. There was a recall for the rings but I ignored it. Smart I know, sold it not long ago. Told the guy to chk the oil every month.
I put less then 4000 miles per year on my vehicles every year and still change my oil every 6 months.
That just makes me sad.
Oh my filter is a mess let's see the rest of the engine cheers
They must have mixed it up with their new lawn mower which they say never need to change the oil
Lol I have one of those Briggs no oil change mowers!
I still change the oil once per
year in spring.
Welcome back
Prevention is cheaper than Correction..If using 100% Synthetic Oil as a Minimum, change your oil every 7k, on Turbo vehicles every 5k. Oil is cheap, engine repair is expensive.
A vehicle can be replaced - and engine can be replaced - However - - You Ken cannot be replaced- Please get better and don't take the chance of a relapse.. Which it sounds like you already had one.
It seems that Cold viruses have gotten worse over the years. and you could get pneumonia if you are not careful .
My best friend whom I grew up with in my childhood lost his sister to pneumonia at a young age - she was in her early 20s.
It takes time for the body to heal of a cold...
Kenny I’ve been thinking replacing my 2015 CRV with 80000 miles for a 2016/17 Toyota venca but couldn’t find any . Did Toyota make any between 15 and 21?
They always need replacement motors very common in these cars even with half those milea
The sound of that engine was like fingernails on a chalkboard to me!!!
But I bet they put oil in no more than a month or two of the oil light coming on 😂 rest in peace engine....you did the best you could
Fantastic
So much for the 10k mile Oil change
That engine is capable of going a million miles with regular maintenance
Did they ignore the oil change message/light?
the irony is this looks like a maintenance truck
The oil looked kind of clean someone added oil to late
My girlfriends mom just had her engine replaced because of not changing oil even though I tell them every week check your oil and change it regularly
I will never understand why people don't do PM's on any of their machinery.
