2. The Facial Rec works well even with sunglasses BUT I've noticed that the related driving features only work in well it situations when it comes to sunglasses.
I figured out #2 when I was driving with polarized sunglasses one evening.
Extremely well explained Alex! I learned (I think) by inference that there are 2 separate systems that recognize the driver: 1. The key fob and 2. Facial recognition. Thanks!

I looooove this feature! I'm fairly tall and every time somebody else drives my car (service guy, valet, road trip buddy, etc.) I would have to go through and reset everything. Now it just puts it all back when I get in my car without my having to touch a thing.

Hi Alex! Is there easy entry and exit setting for Subaru cars? I know can set easy entry. But am having a hard time setting the easy exit(wherein ur seat slides back). Thanks for any inputs.

Great video, what do the Burton’s on the door set if you are setting the facial recognition system with the controls on the steering wheel, do they do the same thing and if I just push button 1 or 2 will that change the seats and mirrors?
The other buttons on the door will do the same (setting your mirrors and seat position). You can set this at the same time you do the facial recognition to save the same position
I have a 2022 subaru forester limited edition and I don't see the driver monitoring system. Is it only available on the touring?
Thank you Alex for the informative videos. They are a big help. I just purchased a 2024 Subaru Forester Limited. Try as I have, I never get to the screen where I get to register a driver. Do you know if anything has changed since the 2021 model year you used in this video? Thank you again.
I also just purchases a '24 Forester Limited. I think this only works on the Touring because it is the one that has a camera looking that the driver.

Yes that shld be possible. Just press set and the number either 1/2 after setting everything .
Will this work on the wilderness 2023?
Looked at a 2021 Forester Sport an the sales guy said there was no memory seats! I’m confused. I did not buy the car, but still considering. Have a tall husband.
Is this available in the Sports trim or only for limited and touring options? Thanks
This feature is actually only available for the Touring trim in the Forester. The outback offers it in the Limited and Touring

You should be able to reset the facial recognition using the same steps as the initial set up. Let me know if you're still unsure on how to do this.
Hi Alex, great vids. Can you please tell me why my seat resets to a low and forward position after I leave my car each time. It’s annoying that it reverts back to my position each time I get in as I’m practically the sole driver? Wish it would stay in the one position unless say my wife used it and adjusted it to her preset #2 I’ve deleted all profiles and it still does it. Cheers
Do you have the Forester?
@@alexpmo Yes, in Australia it’s the 2.5I-S which is the top level trim in the non-hybrid.
My 2020forester is missing the user recognition setting in the in the menu. Manual shows it exists. Can you help me out. Tom

Question: Does the Driver Monitoring System come on all Foresters or just some? I own a 2022 Premium with the #1 and #15 packages and the Driver Monitoring System does not appear on my menu.
Touring only. Dont be upset you dont have it though, most ppl seem to really dislike the driver monitoring system and if you turn it off, then you also turn off the memory seats and mirrors
@@SageLakshmi Oh wow, good points, Charles - thanks. BTW, do the profiles that you can program into the Forester computer adjust to each profile's seat and mirror positions ... like when you select a differet driver, will the seat and mirror positions adjust based on that?
@@FlowJunkee65 i cant speak from experience as i dont own a touring model (yet) but yes, so long as your facial recognition is turned on, it will adjust the mirrors and seats per driver profile.
Also make sure you have windshield insurance or a warranty that covers windshields. If you haven't heard of the "winshield cracking" issues on all subarus, then pls educate yourself on this. It seems the windshields crack quite easiky with many ppl reporting it cracking within the 1st 5k miles of the vehicle. There was a class action suit against subaru in 2020 over it and they claimed it was 2016 and 17 outback and legacy models, but ppl are reporting this same issue on all subarus even 2022s.
Ultimately i am still in the market for a subaru, but i am absolutely naking sure my windshield will be covered
@@FlowJunkee65 but if you are looking at getting a touring, i highly recommend you dont let the driver focus system be your main selling point, because most ppl report it being overly sensitive and obnoxious so they turn it off. Turning your head to check a blind spot will cause the system to beep at you...

Hey Patty! You can actually select "repeat facial scan" under the driver monitoring system menu since your driver profile is already set up. Be sure to have your mirrors and seat in your desired position before repeating the scan. Hope this helps! :)

@@trevorw5907 I’m not sure what’s happening but it sounds like it would be best to delete your driver profile and start over from the beginning. Just make sure your seat and mirrors are in the position you like before you start the facial scan.
Hi Alex.
I am driving a 2021 Subaru Forester Sport. My car does not have that function. Also, I do not have the Set button on the side of the driver door.
I want to do the memory setting for seat and mirror because me and my wife are using the same car and every time I drive, I have to adjust the seat and mirrors manually.
Is there any other way I can do it on my car?
Unfortunately, this is only on the Touring trim currently 😔
Hi Alex here’s my question. I messed up and I have a Driver seat position for the facial recognition and a slightly better one for button number one on the driver side door. What would be the best way to correct this and use just one seat position Dash the one assigned to the door button - for everything?
Hey Michael! First I would go to the facial recognition settings and delete your driver profile. Then use the button on the door to get into the position you like. Once you’re in the seat position you like, go back into the facial recognition set up to save it as a new position. That way your facial recognition and the button on the door will now be in the same position. Hope that makes sense! Let me know if you have more questions!

I would like to know how to set up the front reading lights so they are automatically turned on when I open the front doors. Is this possible Alex?
Hey Diana, are you asking about the dome lights? If so, there’s a switch up on the ceiling near the dome lights that you can click over to the “door” position. This will turn the lights on for you automatically each time you open the door.

Alex, when you put the vehicle in reverse, you said to adjust both mirrors. Does this mean that both mirrors point downwards while you reverse? Also, do they both go back to normal after you start to drive? Thank you in advance!
Just tested this and it appears the passenger side mirror is the only one that automatically adjusts downward when in reverse (this is news to me because I thought both adjusted). It goes back to the normal position as you begin to drive.

Can I open the rear gate with the car running and in park
I wonder if the facial recognition also controls the climate. I'm driving a 2023 Forester and after my friend drove, I jumped in the driver's seat and it recognised me and the air conditioning went down a notch after that. Perhaps it remembers how drivers like the climate settings too?
Yes, the 2023 Forester specifically has hand gesture features (this uses the same sensor that controls facial recognition). If you hold your hand in front of the radio with an open fist, it will increase the temperature by 4 degrees. If you hold your hand in front with a closed fist it will decrease the temperature by 4 degrees. Probably easily to just control with the dial but still a neat feature to know about.
@@alexpmo oh yes, I know about the hand gestures! They work really great, except it controls the temperature but it would be good if you could use it to control the fan speed too! Oh well. But what I was referring to in my comment is that after my friend finished driving and we switched drivers, it recognised me but also adjusted the climate down and possibly the fan speed too. Not sure. But this was just upon recognising me, and not me using the hand gestures.
I just got a 2022 Forester and i cannot find how to set seat and mirror memory. I don’t have those three buttons on the door if front of door handle. I saw one video that showed how to do it with the screen on the dash but there is no option there either. Do I not have this feature
The memory seats/mirrors are on the touring trim for the US spec. What trim level do you have?
@@alexpmo I got the Forester Sport and apparently it does not have that feature, extremely disappointing, I can set memory for how high the tail gate goes which I could care less about. I can not get in the car unless the seat is all the way back so I guess I'm stuck with a car I don't like. Nobody informed me of this. I have had memory seats on my last 4 vehicles and never had to order it.
Hi Alex, I have just picked up my new top model crosstrak but for some reasons the Facial Recognition doesn't work, I'm sure I setup everything correctly for myself and my wife but it just does't adjust the sit and the mirrors at all... would you have any tips? thank you

@@morribigdeli oh that makes sense! There is an off switch for it on our US Subarus. Not sure if it would be the exact same but you can try to find this in the settings. Click on the car icon in the bottom left hand side of the screen (just above your climate controls). From there, click on “driving assistance” at the top and then you should see the on/off setting for your “driver monitoring system”.
@@alexpmo thanks Alex, I took the car to the dealer, it seems this function “change sits/mirrors adjustment” doesn’t change when new driver gets in, which is so silly.
He however said there might be software update in future to fix this bug… so let’s see
What is the point of the memory seat buttons then?
I tried to register myself but it failed. I tried several times with my glasses on and off. It didn't make a difference. Can you give me any suggestions on what to do next? I have learned so much about my Forester from watching your videos. Thank you for making them.
You're welcome! I would try a factory reset through the touch screen display within the settings. Be aware, this will delete any saved info along with any phones connected via bluetooth

Why is this not available on teh 2022 Wilderness?
Not sure. This is only on the Forester Touring currently. Or in the Outback it's optional on the Limited and standard on the Touring
How do you enter and change a name. The first is Joe and it says hello Joe. The 2nd is Driver B, but says Hello Jane. Trying to add a third driver and have no idear how to Change Driver C to Mary and enter the name Mary.
I don't have the driver monitoring option on my info screen.
Do you know what trim level you have? The driver monitoring system is only offered on the Forester Touring trim
