    Hey Pete, I’m trying to make 8 bit versions of songs with GarageBand, but the keyboard I’m using for the 8 bit sounds is, well, a keyboard. Issue is that the MIDI drums are not formatted that way obviously. I could just begrudgingly record drums myself but that would be a painful process, and I’m looking for a shortcut where I can convert one to the other somehow, or find some way to copy paste. Hope you understand what I mean. You can’t drag a drum track into a keyboard track which is an issue for me.

      Hey there. So, I'm not 100% on the same page but I think I get the gist. Unfortunately GarageBand treats drum and keyboard tracks quite differently so there isn't the ability to change between the two. Maybe ask over at the GarageBand Users Facebook group for advice some some of the cool folks there? studiolivetoday.com/gbu

    Hello Pete! First of all, thank you for these videos, I am learning a lot with you. I have a question, if you can help me: can I import MIDI files from Guitar Pro 5 to GarageBand by any way? I usually program drums in Guitar Pro because it is more easier than doing directly in GarageBand, so there is a way to do it? Thank you again for all your videos!

    • @PeteJohnsMusic

      Hey there! So, if you can export from the other app as a standard MIDI file, you should be able to save it to your files and then import using the process j show in this video?

    Hi Pete, many thanks for providing all this useful content. I am looking for a way of importing an apple MIDI loop I create on my macbook (.aif file) into my iPhone so that the MIDI and instrument information is saved. When I try to do this however, the loop is only recognized as an audio loop. Do you know if it is possible to import it as a MIDI loop?

    Hey Pete! I’ve used GarageBand iOS on my iPad Pro since I started recording music and have largely loved it. However, there are obvious limitations with mixing and I can never get my vocals to sound just right in the mix. I’ve been on the fence about getting Cubasis 3 and have seen some of your videos on it. It looks pretty neat but before I pulled the trigger on it, I was curious if you thought that Cubasis was superior to GarageBand in regards to recording/mixing vocals and overall track mixing? I need a DAW with more (and better) options for vocals and for the mixing process. Thanks!!

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  3 года назад

      Hey there. So essentially you can use the same AU plugins for mixing in GarageBand and Cubasis. The Cubasis plugins included are probably slightly better. I would recommend checking out this stream for more info. ruclips.net/video/j4PJF1h975Y/видео.html

    Hi Pete. Just a thought. It would be great to do a deep dive into using/building a midi track with maybe some recorded audio tracks, vocals guitar, keys to build a complete ‘backing track’ for live playing. I know the copyright will be a problem but you may be able to start with some generic blues midi track or something similar. 👍🇦🇺

    Hey ya Pete. Was wondering if you know how to change the instrument of a midi note drum track? It shows up as classical grand piano and it won’t allow me to change to acoustic drums. Would appreciate it if you had any work arounds or advice. Keep up the good work, mate.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  3 года назад +1

      Hey there. So unfortunately this is one of the limitations of GarageBand MIDI importing. You can try importing with a different app like Cubasis as I’ve heard this works better and has more options. But there’s not way too covert a keyboard track to drums or vice versa in GarageBand iOS in my experience.

    Hi Pete. I’m having trouble with GarageBand. First of all I import a lot of midi from MuseScore or Sibelius. Up until yesterday every time I would import midi from these programs it would automatically assign the correct instrument(s) to each track. However now it only assigns the synth piano sound to every midi file that I create. The weird thing is that the old .mid files that I have work fine but the new ones from yesterday and today get assigned the piano sound. Just wondering if you have any solutions since you run this informative channel. Thanks in advance.

      @@PeteJohnsMusic I did and believe me, I think that’s the problem. I came to terms with this an hour ago. However I noticed that when I load a midi with several different instruments even from my music writing software, it assigns the appropriate instruments now. It’s so weird. Thanks for your reply!

    • @PeteJohnsMusic

      Hey there Darren. So, I have only used MIDI to play in parts of a song and not to send whole sequences. But it should work if you have the MIDI clock synced and then trigger from your keyboard. But GarageBand MIDI options are quite limited.

    Pete, Hi: I’ve tried to import a MIDI file in the form of a drum track from sample tank. It works in theory, only that it assigns it to a Grand Piano voice track and it won’t let me convert it to drum sounds… Any suggestion ? Cheers René

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  3 года назад

      Yeah this is one of the drawbacks of MIDI import in GarageBand. Unfortunately there’s not much you can do in GarageBand. You can try converting the MIDI file using an online service or other app then trying again. It’s something I plan to explore again soon.
