I’m thinking of getting a 96 xr200r but the guys says it needs a full new top end, which is bad only around 50 for the kit. But it is the knowledge I lack, but I’m only 16 and I’m getting the bike for like $300 non running. But I don’t have any motorcycle engine experience, but in this video you make it look so easy, and your seeing stuff I don’t see😂. Dang I’m scared, I wanna learn it tho
Nice video it’s been helping me a lot with my grandson’s XR 200 rebuild. I just have one question the time in chain guide you just pulled it out with no problem mine is not pulling out that easy is there a trick to it? Thank you
The timing chain guid just sits in a little slot on the top of the cylinder. There should not be anything holding it in. It is pressed between the cylinder and the head to keep it in place. Thanks for watching and I hope you get it fixed up.
Nice, just picked one up running but making a lot of noise and aluminum shavings in oil, (suspected timing chain), what did you go with for parts? Was thinking pro-x valves, wiseco piston if needed and a D.I.D. Timing chain. Curious what to use for valve springs. Interested what you went with and looking forward to a part 2.
I’m just fixing it up to sell so I went all OEM parts. I wanted it to be reliable but didn’t need performance. I had to replace all the timing components including the lower timing sprocket on the crank. Part 2 should be up in a couple days. Wait until you see how much crap was in the oil rotor behind the clutch cover.
Hi, I have 2002 xr200r I have cilinder issue, I have search all over and cant find it. Any advise where I can find I will really apreciate it thank you.
Anticipating part 2. I’ve currently got my 95 torn down. Waiting on a piston and carb
Still waiting on a few parts, but hopefully will start working on it this week.

What’s crazy is these bikes will run good with little to no compression
Will you include a parts list with links for everything you order in your next video
Yea I got everything off of partzilla and will include the part numbers. Thanks for watching.

Could you show where the decompression cable attaches to the bottom of the engine?
By the way, Excellent video.
At top dead center are the camshaft lobes up or down? It's my first tear down and forgot to take a pic before removing. I think I'm 180 degrees off.
Your second video answered my question, thanks!
Should be facing down. Hope you got it figured out.

What do you need? Pretty much any machine shop could sleeve and re-bore these.
Is there a surtain way the pulse rator has to be to run
Yes there is a dowel pin and a timing mark to line up. Watch the rebuild video and it goes over everything.
Is this a common issue with the xr
what did you pay for it?
Thanks for watching. Around 600 dollars.
