yeah, my pronunciation is not good, but I just wanted to get a few basic phrases out to help tourists because even if you can just speak a little French it makes france even better to visit. thanks for watching and commenting! Merci!
There are several components to speaking French easily . One plan I discovered which succeeds in merging these is the Magic language method (look for it on google) without a doubt the best remedy that I've found. Look at the amazing information .
There are a few things for how to learn French Decide exactly why you wish to learn it Try to use French in your everyday life Find which method works for you the best. (I discovered about these and more from Mirykal french plan site )
But this guy is making no effort at all to speak the language. I have been in beginner classes where people that never heard French before could speak better than this after thirty minutes of class. That tells me he never even listened to one French person say these words. It seems like he just read the words--out of a guidebook maybe--and then he made some wild guess about how to pronounce them. Hmmm I'm thinking that is all this guy does. He reads a few things out a a guidebook to make each of his videos: "9 reasons you got robbed while traveling." Oh here they are in chapter three of my guidebook. I'll just ready them and I'll have another low quality click bait video! What a racket!
they are not complaining, they are trying to help him to improve his accent. French people will never says that something is good if they think the contrary. To you it might be rude, but to french people, being sincere is a way to be polite. Hiding your real thoughts is perceived as hypocrisis.
you are very welcome. sorry my accent isn't perfect but hey we are all tourists aren't we? :) have fun learning French and I hope you get to france soon!
Merci :) that is one thing I always say, you just have to speak... even if you are bad at it at least you are trying and people will appreciate it. Of course if you are over 20 and learning a language you will never be accent free and that is OK, it is about trying and using your language knowledge to get to know the people and culture better. merci for the support!
I have a few other Learn French videos, one is Top 10 French words tourists should know, 4 French phrases all tourists should know, the verb to be in French and personal pronouns and question words in French. Just a few. hope they will help. glad I could be helpful
Great piece of work! Merci! :) I just come back from Paris. I can feel French People really feel proud of their country, culture, and language. I think it will denifitely be cool to speak some French when visiting France. People there will appreciate that for sure.
Had a chance to look at this particular video just prior to a trip to Paris.... and then got inspired to learn more French after the grip..... all of these phrases were vital to know! We got French Lessons from Uber Drivers and Waistaff every day.... all of them were kind and helpful. Your phrases here, all 100% good to know!
Hi, I'm an American who's been living in France for over 25 years. First of all, bravo -in general- for your videos on Paris and France. The ones I've seen so far convey very good, useful and true information. That said, I have to take exception with the present video .. Please don't take this wrong, but as a constructive comment to help those who depend upon your help -and of course, it's just my opinion: Your accent -while charming- contains far too many faults to be useful as a "first lesson" to beginners .. (for example, "wine" in French, is pronounced closer to "van" than "von"). I think that your video is more helpful to those who already speak a bit of French as a reminder of WHAT to say . . . but not really HOW to say it. And a second, important point: One absolutely does NOT say "Salut" (instead of "Bonjour") to a person they don't know, such as a salesperson in a shop. "Salut" is reserved for family members, friends or co-workers. Sorry if this comes across as being too frank. I hope you receive it in the positive spirit in which it's intended. Keep up the good work!
naw, I don't think Parisians are offended by a bad accent ... on the contrary, they would probably appreciate any effort .. and, nowaways, more and more Parisians speak some English, so rather than suffer through hearing a tourist's bad accent -or in a genuine spirit of actually trying to help you out because they might think, because of your bad accent, that YOU are the one suffering- they might actually try speaking English with you (especially younger, internet savvy French people who have been exposed to lots of English). Any by the way, "gare" (train station) is pronounced, "GAHR", not GAH. And your son has a GREAT accent!// Cheers!
@TheRenaissanceman65 How can someone get offended when people don't speak their language, then turn around and get offended when they make an effort to learn it? Or are they supposed to go from beginner to perfect fluency before actually talking to anyone?
I know that people are bashing the pronunciations, but it doesn't have to be perfect. Tourists will rarely be fluent in French. That being said, I am definitely glad that I found this. Next summer I am going to spend 5 weeks doing an internship in Marseille, France. This is a great place to start. I'm definitly going to save this video and check out some of your others.
Keep searching youtube. There are hundreds of videos you could watch on youtube with correct pronunciation of the same words. The advice is good in a way. In French culture it is super rude if you don't say bonjour when you meet someone; so learning even this one word will help a whole lot. But, why not use a video made by someone that actually know how to pronounce the word? I just typed bonjour into the youtube search box and came up with a couple of good ones: (1) This one is good for an easy lesson: ruclips.net/video/TblszzYQF2o/видео.html (2) If you want spend a few more minutes to pronounce the words correctly use this one. It is less than four minutes long and you will be able to pronounce the words perfectly if you pay attention to the whole video. This lady even explains where to put your tongue to make the correct sound for each letter. ruclips.net/video/F_ntt57qrI4/видео.html
hsuclarku2 I've been looking up videos a lot. Thank you for the links. I'll look at them after classes. I've been learning as much as possible. I'm very excited.
Cher/Chère Zafire Shadows Here's is something for you to learn in French. "To do an internship" is "faire un stage." So "je vais aller à Marseille et je vais faire un stage." "To" a city is always "à." Saying "to" a country takes a whole youtube lesson on it's own; so just say "à Marseille." For pronunciation just paste that whole phrase into google translate; make sure French is selected for the language; press the speaker button and the robot voice will say it correctly. There are other ways to say "I will go" but this form of future tense is really easy for beginners like us. Use "Je vais" and the infinitive form of the verb. Keep talking this way and you only have one verb to conjugate--"to go" in present tense. Vous allez vous bien amusé à Marseille. (I'm calling you "vous" because I don't know you but that's another lesson as well.) www.vatefaireconjuguer.com/search?verb=aller translate.google.com/ Bonne soirée
Good job! This is for people who would otherwise not have any words to say in French. Definitely better than nothing. Going to another country can be very intimidating, so it's helpful to make people more comfortable. I've never met a French person who put someone down for their bad pronunciation, when they tried to speak French on vacation. Sure, they may laugh when you've passed by, but they'll appreciate the effort.
WOW this is great! Thank you!! Leaving for France in two months, and I've found so many resources to learn French however most are not what travelers really need.
Thank you so much for doing this video! We leave for Paris in 4 weeks and all I keep hearing is that you should know some basic phrases in French and it will go a long way with the people there.... I'm super nervous because I don't speak any French, so I really appreciate the tips!
Excellent, video, bravo on your accent! It's amazing how a few basic phrases can actually make people go a long way to help you out. Congrats on your channel btw!
my French is far from perfect so don't take me as the end all be all :) I am just trying to help people know some basics so they can enjoy france more. thanks for watching and commenting! hope you will like and subscribe! :)
It's more mastering your french than getting basic phrases imho :-) . People speaking French like you do are high class tourists ;-) A warm "hello" and "thank you" are perfectly ok. Don't cancel your flight because you can't say "s'il vous plait"
I really like your videos keep it up buddy (as a french canadian, I can tell you that you've got a pretty good vocabulary for a beginner, at least to show around that you've made an effort in order to show respect to their culture)
Excellent video - thank you. Most of the videos I have viewed so far, they rush the French pronunciation and I can't make out what they're trying to say. This is a welcome relief. From Carey in Perth Western Australia
+Rob M you ate welcome. I do have an accent but as we are all tourists we most likely won't sound like we are native french :) but we can have fun trying to speak it and the locals appreciate it
This is very helpful in terms of useful phrases (I'm heading to France for the first time at the end of this month for a few days in Paris and have been learning in prep). Just a few notes on pronunciation that I know from listening to native speakers: "Billets" is pronounced like "bi-yay" (the double 'll' is pronounced like 'y'). And 'r' is often a phlegmy 'h' sound. A lot of 'a' sounds more like 'o' such as "chambre" is "shombre". "Je" is "zhah" whereas "j'ai" is "zhay". XD
Thanks again for this video, as I told you in the previous video, I'm french and your accent is very nice to hear. Remember at reading the french words in this video that usually, ending consonants in french aren't pronounced, e.g. we don't pronounce the plurals visible by the ending -s or some others consonants. Also, usually french people understand the very basic english like : Yes/No, Okay, Hello/Hi, (Good)Bye, I don't understand, I speak English/I don't speak French, Thanks you, I'm lost, I'm late.. and kind of other basic phrases. So keep in your minds that if you can't remember the phrases given in the video you can use your basic english and people should understand you - but try to not use tranlating apps which usually translate to a terrible french often impossible to understand. :) Cheers
I have tried using Yandex and Google to translate text into Russian. I have found Yandex better, but I admit it is still not a perfect substitute for knowing the grammar of the Slavic language. My French is so much better, although I admit it will take me awhile to get my Russian-speaking ability up to where my French-speaking ability is (without using online translators).
A little off topic but there's a Parish(like a county) in Louisiana, USA called Terrebonne which means "Good Earth". Apparently they have extremely fertile land. OK back to the video. LOL!
Very nice ideo, thanks/merci, but one tip, if you got to turn back to english try to do it so but slowly, cause many frenchies as learned english at school but haven't there hears trained to english/american accent! anyway take care /prenez soins de vous
Since it's been a few years since I took French in school, I did learn a few phrases slightly different than how you said them, but they have the same jist of things. Like I learned for Ca va, I learned how to say it 'sa va' and you said it 'se va'
Yes you must ask for the bill when at a restaurant. It's not because the service is worse than ours, but because their customs are different. Different does not automatically mean poor.
Thanks! Great Video. Husband and I are hoping to make our first trip next year for 10th anniversary and I'm worried about the language. This was very helpful.
AndreaMarieO My accent is not perfect but for a tourist these phrases will really help out as the French are really helpful when you try to speak a little French. all the best and congrats on 10 years!!!
its funny how much french people are bashing his accent, yet when french people come to america, no one ever says anything about their accents. just keep up the snobbby stereotypes...
I'm an American going to Paris with my family in a few weeks....I don't want to go. I'm trying to learn few words, but at the same time it seems like a complete waste of time. I've watched 100 damn videos about visiting France, and after reading many, many comments (mostly from French people), I REALLY don't want to go... Thankfully most of the trip will not be in France.
they are not bashing, they are trying to help him to improve his accent. French people will never says that something is good if they think the contrary. To you it might be rude, but to french people, being sincere is a way to be polite. Hiding your real thoughts is perceived as hypocrisis.
+Randi Dash Don't worry too much. In Paris you won't have any problem finding someone who speaks English. That's very true in hotels, restaurants, museums and other touristic places. After a couple of days, you will learn how to decode signage and even read menus in restaurants. Just relax and that will come quickly.
I don't know I'm a slow learner but its my first year at highschool but you have refreshed my memory and I know how to say my name je suis sportif e musclé
Why are some people complaining about his accent? My first two languages were English and Spanish and you won't find me making fun of people's accents 🙄
Hello, just found your video on help with some basic french words. I need a little help with pronunciating: bainwhen I hear it I am not cleary understanding. Im going to spell it as I hear it: I hear it as: bon, bone, bocould you possible spelling an english wording for me so I can properly pronounce. thank you.
Love this video, very helpful :) I love when videos where you learn a phrases about new language are made in that country :) Keep up the good work ! :)
Great video to teach French. Thanks Mark, you've done an excellent job. I'll use it next week with students. It's much better than any other pedagogical document you may find from officials publishers and we'll have a lot a fun practicing "je suis un idiot" !!! (in the other film in Paris).
I cannot decide, learn French or German first? I have family connections to France and I like their culture more - but I love the way German speaks and sounds.
+Dax Frost French and German both are hard languages to learn but I'd advise you to go with German because from what you said it is the one your preference lean on. If you learn a language for something else than your own satisfaction it won't work trust me on that ;)
+Dax Frost : I'm a language teacher. Here's a HUGE hint -or a reminder of a disregarded fact- One-third of the English language is French (either DIRECT words with the same spelling and meaning, or "French root" words, such as vocabulaire/vocabulary). That means, in many, many, cases you have nothing to "learn" because YOU ALREADY SPEAK SOME FRENCH, or -unbeknownst to you- already have a big French vocabulary. You would just have to pronounce them correctly, and BINGO: You have a second language hiding in your pocket! Of course, there are many false cognates or "false friends" (these are the same words, but with different meanings in each respective language, such as "deception", "bras", or depending upon use: "important" or "grand" , for example) But even without these false friends, there are still about 1700 directly equivalent words. (table, radio, etc.), and close words (docteur, radiateur, etc.) ... Obviously, I'm not talking about grammar here, but -as to which language would be the easiest for you to learn- it seems that French would be a good candidate (
German and English, like Ukrainian and Russian, have similar-sounding words. That said, French and Russian are each spoken, in more countries (at least as a language of business), than German.
my French isn't very good but I do have a good French accent. 1 tip for speaking French if you weren't sure what the English word is and this does work believe me say the word as you would in English but with a French accent
unfortunately, he doesn't have a french accent to fake. His problem isn't with the vocabulary, but with the tonal concept. Nice guy, good videos, not a language teacher.
yeah, my pronunciation is not good, but I just wanted to get a few basic phrases out to help tourists because even if you can just speak a little French it makes france even better to visit.
thanks for watching and commenting! Merci!
Wolters World yeah I cringed LOL but then I speak NO German OR Portuguese so I can hardly criticize
@@susie9893 so your unasked for comment is completely pointless 🙄 bye!
As a non-French speaker, it sounded pretty good to me. I figured you were fluent or something. Not kidding.
to all the french people who complain about his accent, i would say that you should thank's him for promoting our beautiful language.

Good tips! I hear that a lot of people (specifcally in Paris) get somewhat offended when you don't have a very good accent. Is this true?
Tyler Werbenjagermanjenson Yes, that's certainly what I've found.

Nice work but the accent in french is different like Vin.. Bien

this is a good start.....nice presentation.

does this French language need consonants at all?
yes it does
Omg 😫 thank youu for this upload. I'll see how i handle myself in paris
at 3:07 you can just say "ok" , even in France it's often used

I've watched 100 damn videos about visiting France, and after reading many, many comments (mostly from French people), I REALLY don't want to go... Thankfully most of the trip will not be in France.
TaylorEqualsRandom that is 100% true. Even in a corn fed Midwest town. We would try and help. Maybe it’s funny but we don’t care
hsuclarku2 no they wouldn’t at all.
they are not bashing, they are trying to help him to improve his accent. French people will never says that something is good if they think the contrary. To you it might be rude, but to french people, being sincere is a way to be polite. Hiding your real thoughts is perceived as hypocrisis.
Great video mark. Very helpful!
Merci beaucoup
Just in time for my next visit to Paris 😁😁😁
When do you head to Paris?
Thank you for this! I'm very nervous to visit Paris for the first time without speaking French. This will really help : )
+Randi Dash Don't worry too much. In Paris you won't have any problem finding someone who speaks English. That's very true in hotels, restaurants, museums and other touristic places. After a couple of days, you will learn how to decode signage and even read menus in restaurants. Just relax and that will come quickly.
+YanikCrepeau1 Thank you!! :)
Aww this is very good! Thank you. I am going to Paris on April 2013 :D
Merci!

My friend (who speaks French) said, if you want the restaurant bill, you would say " La Note s'il vous plait".
Man! It looks like this is a video from hundred years ago. Crazy how the world changed in twelve years
Its weird watching these old videos sometimes
@@woltersworld time fly's he' ... enjoyed nevertheless 🍀♥️💐
Of course, there are many false cognates or "false friends" (these are the same words, but with different meanings in each respective language, such as "deception", "bras", or depending upon use: "important" or "grand" , for example)
But even without these false friends, there are still about 1700 directly equivalent words. (table, radio, etc.), and close words (docteur, radiateur, etc.) ...
Obviously, I'm not talking about grammar here, but -as to which language would be the easiest for you to learn- it seems that French would be a good candidate (
+chocolatsmile votre anglais est bon.
Many thanks buddy
Talk about a classic.
Watched a couple of your vids now we're helpful to.
Don't say "Salut" if you don't know the person, it's pretty rude.
Oui oui
