    Ryan, during WW-2, the British and Americans took almost weekly arial photographs of almost 100 percent of France. May I suggest an inquiry of the RAF Archives in England for additional detailed over-flight photos of the convent and surrounding area.

    The ice house would have been used as a place to store bodies in the summer months ,there would have been a certain place in the ice house where bodies would be placed until they were buried as the warm weather would speed up decomposition of the body ,so the colder the better for storing bodies .

    • @bjbrown
      @bjbrown Год назад +15

      That is so different from here in America. An icehouse here is for storing the ice cut from the pond, lake or river and it was packed in sawdust, for insulation, and if done correctly it would last most of the year. It was the precursor to refrigerators. In fact the ice man would bring ice so ladies could have cold food. Yes, I am getting older!

    I wish all our outdoor workers would be given a cool neck thingy - that really rocks!!!
    So I take it we can’t slip into the cool food and body storage room and have a look around? 👀

    Ryan you are a historian and a natural presenter. I have one of those cooling devices for my long walks on a hot and humid day. They really do the trick. Simon, I think a tad of brown pigment added to the darker sample will be closest to the stone. From the video the tones show more brown tones. Just a thought. xx

    Fantastic video! Stunning videography by Alex, per usual. Absolutely brilliant presentation and hosting by Ryan. You lads are doing Billy proud in his absence. Loved this! Bravo, Convent Crew!
    Thanks to Mary, whomever you are, for supplying the great photos. I think a display of found objects from the convent's past would be the best use of that space above the basement door. The grout needs a bit of brown to warm the color up if you want the grey to match the pointing in the upper stonework. It would be closer to the color of the stones which are definitely a warmer grey. As always, it's a pleasure watching Simon and Yannis working together. Simon is a fantastic teacher and Yannis is the most attentive and willing apprentice he could hope to have. Watching him observing the tips and tricks of the trade is amazing. He's soaking up all that knowledge like a sponge soaks up water! And he's the hardest and most eager worker I've ever seen.

    Simon's idea about the glass case is fabulous and Billy's incorporating the time capsule in the wall is also fabulous. Time capsule could be installed above the glass case couldn't it Billy?
    I'm so impressed with all these guy's continuing with their hard work whilst Billy and his family are away for their well-deserved holiday. Gwen, stay relaxed. They've got this! ❤
    Ryan, IGI record search may also help you find more about the convent as it holds historical information and should be free to search. I used this many years ago for family research, but they should hold information about the convent as well. Good luck with researching more ❤

      Not sure Billy is good with the idea of a seance. He gets creeped out enough on the 3rd floor. That is to say, I believe all tenants Of that time period it was a nunnery have passed. I like the idea of searching british and possibly even american WWII archives for pictures and possible other info. Might be worth checking with the red cross as well if they have any archives. With what has been shown in the attic it is possible they treated soldiers during that time.

    One thing I noticed that reflected the changing or rather, a gradual reduction in the number of nuns residing at the Convent, was the matching reduction in food production. If you look very carefully at the earliest photos, you can see this ongoing trend reflected in the central part of the garden; there are faint lines & differing colours in the grass where in earlier years, there were considerably larger vege patches that would have been worked over the centuries. As you progress through the photos, food production is very clearly falling every few years.

    • @sme_sage1241
      @sme_sage1241 Год назад

      I wonder if that was due to the aging nun population and decline in residents. Perhaps Ryan can find out for us.

    • @pinkelephants1421
      @pinkelephants1421 Год назад +1

      @@sme_sage1241 That was my point. Once upon a time the gardens would have had to support a large number of people, including the nuns' hospital work. But over time and as circumstances changed, so did the corresponding food requirements.
