Survivor here - I had it at 24 and was misdiagnosed for 2 years (IBS, etc). Finally a doctor LISTENED to me and ordered a CA-125 test (numbers off the charts) and a CT scan confirmed tumors on both ovaries. I was stage 3C.. It’s been 15 years since then and I’m doing fine. There is hope! Know your body and listen to the voice that tells you something isn’t right -even when no one else does.

    • @aj-sz8mu

cervical at least has pap smear. but ovarian, pretty sure they have to actually see the ovaries to know.

    • @laland5752
      @laland5752 2 года назад +11

Cervical has a pap which is good- which is why a lot are caught early. My mom had uterine cancer and she was lucky enough to get an abnormal pap. More older women get uterine cancer and my mom knew something was wrong because she was having spotting and she had already gone through menopause. Or you can bleed between periods. And that happens with uterine cancer. So you know something is wrong at least. But yes, Ovarian cancer is also scary because there really aren’t any tests for it. I know someone who has stage 4 now with Ovarian cancer at 53 but she is in remission now, at least.

It seems like there are no advancements in diagnostic testing and innovation with these types of cancers. It would be nice to see a blood test developed that could indicate if the cancer is present and made available with routine exams. I just wonder if this is another case of less R&D funding in research for these areas because it only happens to women. There was an investigation many years ago concluding less funding, and visibility go to women issues vs men issues.

I just don't understand why a transvaginal ultrasound can't be part of your annual gynecological exam or at least performed every 2-3 years depending on family history. It can detect abnormalities on the ovaries and in the pelvis early. Ovarian cancer is like #5 on the list of cancer in women. Why can't we just figure out best practices already. Because what's being done now isn't working.

I had all those symptoms and was diagnosed last week with stage 2 ovarian cancer. It may seem hard to differentiate between these symptoms being cancer or something less bad, but maybe this will help: It's not normal bloating, it's heavy and strange, like being bloated with a solid instead of a gas. All these symptoms appear one after the other, and they stay and they get worse and worse very quickly, like a matter of 1 or 2 months. I went to the ER because the pain was so severe I couldn't sleep, I was eating one thing a day and then the vomiting started. Trust your body. Never hurts to get checked anyways!

Fishing up Chemo this week due to Ovarian Cancer !! I am 35, don’t let doctors tell you, you are to young for cancer. When something feels wrong, listen to your body. Thankfully, I was diagnosed at Stage 1 , had surgery, chemo as reoccurrence prevention, and now showing no sign of the disease. Ask for CA 125 blood test. Couldn’t have made it through this without Jesus !! Also nausea is a symptom. The tumor I had was high grade (aggressive), so it blocked my urinary system, and was having hard time urinating (was being referred to a urologist). Until one day I couldn’t urinate at all and had to go to ER. After a urinary catheter and CAT scan, it was found. Only reason it was caught early!!

What would you do differently? Nothing. Still just go for screenings, try to to eat right, exercise, etc. Only wealthy celebrities like Angelina Jolie could afford to take aggressive proactive measures like remove breasts and reproduction organs. I had a coworker who died at 38 in 2008 of ovarian cancer. She kept thinking she was having just increased problems with hemorrhoids. She had surgery to have them removed. She was still having problems. Turned out it was cancer. She also had lost about 10 pounds without knowing it. She just couldn’t eat as much. Then one day she got real bloated all of a sudden. After that she had to take a medical leave and within 3 or 4 months she was gone.

Sometimes doctors just care about your concerns. I was have terrible chronic pain on the left side of pelvis and my doctor did a ultrasound that day. He couldn't even find my left ovary. Zero concern about that even with my pain being on that side. He actually said "not worried, it's in there somewhere. But I'mprettysure the pain you are having is IBS" and he walked out and that was that. Fast forward 8 months and I have a horrible fall and thought I proke my hip. They did a CT scan in the er and luckily my hip was all food but I had a 7cm "hemorrhagic" cyst on my right ovary that I would have to have removed asap because of the possibility of it rupturing and me losing a massive about of blood. Go back to that same doctor because I didn't have time to get a new doctor and all that. And guess what else he found during my surgery? That's right, my left ovary! Where was it you ask? IT WAS ADHERED TO AND WRAPPED AROUND MY COLON! My chronic "ibs" pain was actually my left ovary and fallopian tube being constantly pulled and twisted by my always moving intestines! So yea...glad it wasn't anything more serious than that.

I would definitely recommend an MRI or CT scan (with contrast) if I were you, to rule out non ovarian cancer possibilities. If you suspect ovarian cancer it’s best to start with a CA-125 blood test. When ovarian cancer is super advanced though and if there are no localized tumors and the mass is spread throughout the abdomen, only a PET scan will detect it. My aunt was diagnosed with stage 3C ovarian cancer in February after she had a bowel obstruction caused by her mass; she needed emergency surgery. When they opened her up they saw the cancer throughout her abdominal cavity. She refused to get a PET scan to see how extensive it was (she is afraid of radiation and also only wanted to go the all natural/alternative route). Her doctor ordered an MRI w/contrast at my aunts request and they could not see the cancer (even though we know from her surgeons notes it was literally everywhere).

Im 42 and for 2 years i have had bilateral complex ovarian cyst about 11 cm on each side and my gynecologist told me that they looked fine that they didn't look like they were metastasizing to anything they weren't growing outside of the where they were so it definitely wasn't cancer so we scheduled to have a surgery done 211 and he referred me to the gynecologist oncologist ladies be your own Advocate if you feel like something's wrong push it if your doctor isn't listening to you you are absolutely Within you are right to get a second opinion get a second opinion

@Cr****92 I couldn't tell you his marital status. I don't keep up with such things.
I can only assume without knowing. Might be related to the convo, might be his producer talking in his ear about something else unrelated, or telling him NOT to interject. Who knows? lol
I think the fact that you say you're comfortable and yet refer to them as "woman things" might speak for itself. Yes, it is biology, but not everyone is comfortable listening to those stories, much less engaging in the conversation.
I remember one of my coworkers telling me about breastfeeding her son (many years earlier, as he was 8 at the time) and describing how she was afraid she was going to suffocate him. Now, I wasn't uncomfortable or embarrassed by the conversation, but I was very busy and I felt this was an inappropriate topic to be discussing in the workplace. I'm female, we were both in management, and it just seemed like a topic that didn't need to be discussed when there was much work to be done. Yes, it's biology and totally healthy and natural, but this wasn't a problem that needed solving (since this was a story from 8 years earlier) and why bring this up at work anyway?
There are few things I love more than a baby, anybody's baby, but I just saw it as an odd topic to bring up at the time (and place). Now, if someone had to bring their baby to work, they can put that baby in my office ANY TIME. I will make sure that baby is safe, nurtured, diapered, and loved on. That baby won't want to leave. lol
I'm much more tolerant of baby's and little ones than adults.

They found “something” on one of my ovaries and I begged and had them both removed (well, everything removed). I lost my mom to ovarian cancer in 1989, she was 42. I was 42 when they found this growth. I just *knew* it was cancer. Thankfully I was wrong but I’ve never regretted my total hysterectomy. Whatever “it” was to me was the “it” that comes *before* precancerous and I am very lucky that my hyper vigilance found it. Now I’m 49 and still on hormone replacement therapy and it looks like I need to go off that too! Just in case!

This and colon cancer I found out today runs in my family, I’m 28 and have only seen a gyno once (at least 2 years ago) but I have had many of these symptoms for the past year and recently they’ve gotten much worse after some stress and now I have developed consistent pain in my pelvic/groin area and nausea, increased vaginal discharge and very minor urine incontinence (is this normal for my age?), slight bleeding between periods, intermittent constipation and urgent diarrhea and I have lost 20lbs in the past month. Im not bloated though. I’m so scared of going to see the doctor about it as cancer is my worst fear and I’m really hoping this is just stress and a bladder infection lol

Please go see a doctor. I know it’s scary, but it’s better to check it out, as there could be other issues that are easier to solve. Plus, you’ll have more peace of mind if it ends up being less serious. Tell them all these symptoms and the timeline, especially about your sudden weight loss, since this will indicate that tests should be done quickly. Best of luck to you, friend.
