Great video, thanks. But does it really make sense to have 5k with 24p? This appears to be quite choppy an many situations, especially the ones with camera movement.
Thanks for your feedback. Fair point. Rolling shutter is an issue, especially with smaller sensors and EIS on. If there isn’t a lot of side to side movement it isn’t a big deal but if there is filming in 60fps can help.

I appreciate your feedback. Yes, what I found with mine is updating the firmware did help with the camera running a little cooler and also seemed to optimize battery life. I do find that if I’m filming in 5K, then my battery life is typically only going to be about a max of a little over 1 hour. The camera does get warm but I only finding it getting really hot if I’m outside in hot weather and direct sunlight. Even with it getting hot I have still found it functions properly without powering off or having other glitches.

New subscriber from Chicago. Came across your videos, and I love them. It’s pretty straight forward. And very helpful. Quick question though which you probably got asked a gazillion of time. What is a good GoPro video editor for beginners. Thanks in advance!
Thank you for your feedback and support! A good, free video editing software to start with is VideoProc Vlogger. This software is specifically tailored for editing GoPro videos. If you want something with more advanced options you could also check out the free version of DaVinci Resolve.
Thanks for the video. I will try these but I am wondering in what context you are using activity vs cinematic? I understand the different resolutions and frame rates but are they both for slower motion shots?
Yes, for a fishing video I recommend using a combination of the standard and slow-mo modes that I demonstrate in this video. The standard would be good for normal action and the slow-mo would be good for those shots you want to slow down for emphasis.
Thank you for all this information.i dont have 30fps in my gopro 9.for cinematic settings i can only do 5k 25fps or 24fps.would like to use the videos from the camera. No editing extra.
Great question. For cycling I recommend wide or superview for the lens. That perspective looks great when cycling. As far as resolution and frame rate I recommend filming in the highest resolution. The frame rate will largely depend upon what fps you want your finished product in and if you want to do any slow motion. Anything between 24 fps and 60 fps will work for that depending on your finished product vision.

This is a great question. I do not believe there is currently any way to adjust this but you are correct, it does have a greenish hue on the back vs the front. Maybe GoPro will implement this in a future firmware update.
I primarily use Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. DaVinci is a great value due to the free cost as long as it meets the editing needs that you have.

Generally having an ISO Max of 400, EV Comp set to to -0.5, Sharpness of Low or Medium are the key settings that will give best results in bright sunlight in 1080.

What would be the best settings for both action and standard video if I wanted to shoot footage and upload it to my FB page without using editing software? Where is that stone block dam located? Beautiful footage!
If you’d like to upload directly to FB I’d recommend using 24fps as the frame rate. The stone block dam is located along the Blue Ridge Parkway near the center of Virginia. It’s a nice place to visit.
You’re welcome! I use Adobe Premiere Pro and really like it. However, GoPro does have a free app that you can use for light editing of GoPro footage. There are many other great editing software options out there too depending on which operating system and hardware you use.
DaVinci Resolve. It's got a free version and even the full version is just 255€, lifetime, while Premier Pro costs 25€ a month and in 10 months as much as Resolve lifetime. And many video editors also need After Effects which costs the same. So it's really expensive, at least for me. Davinci Resolve free version is really powerful too and especially the coloring tab. I prefer to use Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve most of the time due to the extra editing options they offer. DaVinci has a free version that is actually very powerful. It takes a bit to learn it but it’s great.
It is a great option for travel vlogging. I recommend making sure you have a good external microphone option and don’t depend on the built-in GoPro audio. It’s not bad but if you want to take your vlogging to the next level you’ll want great audio as well.
Hello. I'm a new GoPro user and anxious to learn more, so please forgive my ignorance. My question is: How do you control your GoPro when you have it mounted on, for instance, a surf board or on a helmet? Don't you want to switch it on and off, and between video and photo for different occasions? Thank you.
Hello! Great question. You’ve got a few options. The first option is to use the GoPro App on your phone and connect it to your GoPro to control it and see what the camera sees. You can also switch modes using the app too. The App is free and is both Android and iOS compatible. Second option is a remote. I don’t recommend this option as it is pretty limited and doesn’t offer a lot of features. Third option is simply controlling the camera by hand and switching it off and on from the mount as well as switching modes as needed. Using the app on a phone to control the GoPro is my preferred method when I have it mounted. When I’m using the GoPro handheld I simply control it and switch modes by hand. Enjoy your GoPro!
Hi there. I am just starting my new cooking channel. Can you suggest what will be the best setting in your experience for video taping close up food cooking videos with the Gopro hero 9. Thank you Charlie
The GoPro Hero 9 does not have an autofocus option and objects will go out of focus if the camera is any closer than about 12 inches to the subject. With the Hero 9 Black you’ll also want to make sure you have really good lighting as the camera is not the strongest with indoor or low lighting. If you decide to look for a different camera for cooking channel vlogging that has autofocus I recommend something like the Sony ZV-1. We’ve tested this out for such purposes and it does really well for a relatively low cost. amzn.to/2Wr3H8V I do think the GoPro could be decent for wider angle shots if you have some type of multiple-camera setup but for close-ups it would not be the best choice.
Hi, that was interesting as a new user - however can I ask one question - if I dont want to do a lot ( any ) post processing, how would the settings change ? I am assuming the main change is to change Color to GoPro from Flat - is that correct or are there other changes that would be needed to have a product straight out of the camera ? ANY help gratefully received.
Hi, great question! I actually just published a video that outlines the best settings for those who want footage straight out of the GoPro with no editing: ruclips.net/video/R5jr22gNDNM/видео.html You are correct. One of the main changes is the color mode. There are a few other changes I recommend as well but that is a key one.
Both are great options. 2.7K is especially good if you want to do something like 2.7K 120fps to have slow motion when editing. As far as quality, there is not that much of a difference to the human eye, especially if you export your finished product as 1080p. You can’t go wrong with 2.7K.
You’re welcome! The standard mode settings should work well for urban environments too. In fact, if you’re around a lot of buildings and want the lines on those building to remain straight the Linear setting combined with Horizon Leveling will be great for this. The other settings should work well in an urban environment as well. If lighting is good you could bump the ISO Max setting back to 400. Otherwise these settings should work well.
Is it possible to tell us your export settings (premier pro?) as your video look so crispy? I tried everything but still gopro9 videos not looking crispy or clear enough!!!
@@GreatDayForAHike thank you for your reply. I will try your settings as well, I think my problem was that ISO was at 1600 , I will try it now with 800 or 400 max to see if finally look more clear because at the moment I'm a bit disappointed from gopro9 videos quality

@@GreatDayForAHike is this the right cinematic video settings??
These are the cinematic settings that I recommend for best results on the Hero 9 Black.

Best among the rest about the setting!
Thank you for your feedback!
I actually just published a video that outlines the best settings for those who want footage straight out of the GoPro with no editing: ruclips.net/video/R5jr22gNDNM/видео.html
You are correct. One of the main changes is the color mode. There are a few other changes I recommend as well but that is a key one.
Great vid. Thanks so much. Subbed!

Hi ! Is there much difference in quality between 2.7k to 4k ? It will save much space & battery to use the 2.7k over the 4k on the GoPro 9 ?
Both are great options. 2.7K is especially good if you want to do something like 2.7K 120fps to have slow motion when editing. As far as quality, there is not that much of a difference to the human eye, especially if you export your finished product as 1080p. You can’t go wrong with 2.7K.
@@GreatDayForAHike Thanks man !!
Is there a link that I could follow along with the settings?
We don’t have one up yet but plan to soon.
Thank you so very much
You’re welcome!
Thanks for your GPH 9 videos @Great Day For A Hike! I'm wondering if your standard mode settings would change at all for a more urban environment?
You’re welcome! The standard mode settings should work well for urban environments too. In fact, if you’re around a lot of buildings and want the lines on those building to remain straight the Linear setting combined with Horizon Leveling will be great for this. The other settings should work well in an urban environment as well. If lighting is good you could bump the ISO Max setting back to 400. Otherwise these settings should work well.
@@GreatDayForAHike thanks so much for getting back to me!
this video made me subscribe you lods of love !

Is it possible to tell us your export settings (premier pro?) as your video look so crispy? I tried everything but still gopro9 videos not looking crispy or clear enough!!!
Definitely. I export in custom settings with H.264, 2 passes, and 100 for both the constant and variable bitrate settings.
@@GreatDayForAHike thank you for your reply. I will try your settings as well, I think my problem was that ISO was at 1600 , I will try it now with 800 or 400 max to see if finally look more clear because at the moment I'm a bit disappointed from gopro9 videos quality
Oh yes, if you’re shooting in good daylight lighting and you set the ISO lower you’ll be much happier with the quality of the footage.
Thanks, very helpful :-)
You’re welcome! Glad you found this helpful.
