Thank you man. This is what I was looking for in the whole RUclips platform. Very informative. I just bought a new GoPro 10 and I am learning the bits of it.
For GoPro Hero 10 video settings I have visited quite few RUclips videos to understand Cinematic Mode Settings but found yours very clearly explained about the video settings in Cinematic Mode. Thank you so much…
Just got a hero 10 for Xmas and new to recording videos other than using my phone and this was super helpful. I'll have to come back to this video bc there is no way I'll remember all these settings. 🙂
I’m glad you found this helpful. I hope you enjoy your Hero 10. It’s a fun camera with tons of features and potential and I still find myself experimenting with it in new ways and use cases.
The reason to have stabilisation off is in using reelsteady after. Reelsteady gives MUCH better stabilisation. And for the same reason it's better film with wide angle, because in the same software you can remove the fisheye effect to keep straight image with maximum view. Your settings are good, but you can do way better if you have reelsteady. Basically, for the best image you film in 5K 4:3, no stabilisation, wide angle. Removing fisheye will make the image wider, so 4:3 will become 16:9. At the end you have the best possible image with the best possible stabilisation
This is the best u-tube I have seen. I’m going to get one but I cannot make up my mind. I have decided to get 10. Your voice was clear and slow enough I could I can understand what you are saying.
I appreciate your feedback. I’ve been really happy with the Hero 10. It ties the Hero 6 Black for my favorite GoPro ever. I still use the 6 and love it but the 10 is nice due to the highest resolutions and frame rates offered.
Great video, I picked up some tips. Do you know what settings to use for it to video in "GH" rather than "GX" format? My GoPro9 does "GH" but cannot find out to get the settings for GoPro10 to do same?
Awesome vid. And very useful. I'm a beginner and have my GoPro10 for 3 weeks now. I'm struggling only with filming in the night/low light when I'm walking. A lot of graining. Do you have a suggestion what i can do to fix this. Kind regards.
Thank you. Great question. So this could be if your ISO Max is set to 1600. You would likely want to bump that down to a Max of 800. This could also be due to Hypersmooth being turned on. Hypersmooth does not work well in low lighting due to how the electronic image stabilization functions. This video goes into detail on best low light settings and may be worth referencing for some of the other settings: ruclips.net/video/2OrNT5e-1u4/видео.html
Thank you. I recommend either the Rode Wireless Go or the new DJI Wireless Mic that is being released in January 2022. It is important to note that you do need an adapter to connect the 3.5mm audio jack to the USB-C port on the GoPro. Or if you own the Media Mod you can connect the wireless mic directly via the 3.5mm port on that.
I got my new GoPro 10 on 8th May 2023. The media MOD, camera mics is still not available. I did firmware update. Thank you for your videos and helpful for me to understand my new toy.
I have had the 7 Black for the last 3 years and been real happy with it but hoping to upgrade to the 10 Black when finances allow, so this was an invaluable video for me - thank you! Cheers Alan
You’re welcome. Swipe down to get the menu and then swipe left. You’ll then see two options: Connections and Preferences. Click Preferences, then click Displays (third down on menu). Scroll down to bottom and turn Rear Screen Grid to On.
In general you will want the lens to be either wide or superview when cycling. This will give a great field of view of your adventure. Most other settings would stay the same regardless of whether you use it as a body cam or handled. If you’ll want to slow any of your footage down later on when editing then I recommend shooting in 60 fps for those clips. Otherwise I recommend filming in either 24 or 30fps.
Yes, the sharpness setting does need some fine-tuning. I opt for medium in most cases because I think some of the detail gets lost on low, even when bringing out the sharpness later on while editing. I expect to see GoPro fine tune this a little further when the next firmware update is released on or around November 16th.

Awesome video!! and new sub from me. What about aspect ratio? It looks like all of your settings were in 4:3. That would have the bars on the sides correct? But all your videos while watching this were in 16:9 full screen it seemed. Thanks.
Thank you and thank you for your support! When I film in 4:3 it can give me a bit more reframing flexibility up and down with the clip. The clip fills the frame horizontally on a 16:9 timeline but has some extra parts of the frame to work with at the top and bottom.

Excellent explanation, but how about when your shoot video at night time? What is the best settings. I do shoot while walking at day, afternoon and night time.
Thank you. Shooting at night or in low lighting is tricky on the GoPro and I generally do not recommend this in most cases due to the sensor size on the GoPro. It can be done though. For night time shooting you’d likely want an ISO Max of 1600 and you’ll need a low shutter speed. This means that if you’re doing any type of motion you’d want Hypersmooth off and some type of external stabilizer. Otherwise the footage will likely end up highly jittery and unusable.
Can you see that in Activity/Slo-Mo Mode settings you put it at 4K 120. But you decide to have it at Linear + HL and change HyperSmooth to High. That changes your Res/FPS to 4K 60. If you going to have it at 4K 120, then you can choose Hypersmooth either Standard or Boosted. At least on my Hero 10 Black there is no option to have Hypersmooth on "High" if i have 4K 120.
Thank you friend! This video helped me a lot. But I have a question, can I keep these settings for shooting at night, in low light, or do I need to increase the ISO?
Hi, I am subscribed to your channel and appreciate all your videos relating to the GoPro 10. I just purchased a used copy on eBay and am configuring it based on your suggestions. I have a quick question about the camera. The small rectangular door/latch situated below the on/off button is missing. Can this be replaced? Is it a problem? Should I place tape over it? The camera powers up fine. Thanks for any help you can provide. Kind regards.
Firstly, thank you for your support and I’m glad to have you here as a part of the community at this channel. So that is actually the drain port for the microphone. If your camera has been in water this is where the water would drain out. You may be able to find a replacement part for this. If not putting tape over it should be fine as this should not cover a mic as the mics on this model should be at the top and the front.
Though you’d want to leave a bit of a gap for water to still drain if you intend to use this underwater. Also, the camera may not be fully waterproof with this missing. So that would also be important to keep in mind.
@@GreatDayForAHike Hi, Thanks for responding to my inquiry, and again, for all the helpful videos. I'm watching "GOPRO BEST SETTINGS for NO EDIT Videos, Photos & Time Lapses" at the moment. I've been taking stills for a long time, which will help. I'll have to make do with the camera as it is because I live overseas and can't return it. Furthermore, the seller does not accept returns! The description was not 100% accurate, but it's hard to complain, considering what I paid and all I received. I'll have to refrain from taking the camera into the water. It could be worse. For $200.00, I got the GoPro Hero 10 with white rubber casing, a GoPro case, six standard GoPro batteries, one Enduro battery, a GoPro dual-battery charger, a Volta, 3 ND filters (8x, 16x, 32x) - though I can't determine the brand, several mounting brackets, and $105.00 NutSac carrying case complete with strap. I did OK. I'll learn with it and, when necessary, upgrade to a newer model. Thanks again, and best of luck with your RUclips channel. Kind regards, Mark
I primarily use Adobe Premiere Pro but also recommend DaVinci Resolve for a no-cost option. The free version of DaVinci Resolve is a powerful and capable video editing tool.
Great video !! I use my 10 primarily for road cycling, and have been disappointed that I cannot get a video "burn in" overlay, using GoPro Labs. I want to be able to put a time/date stamp on the videos. Any suggestions on this? Thanks.
Thank you! So it looks like GoPro is working on adding this feature for the Hero10 via the Labs firmware. You can read more about what GoPro has said here: community.gopro.com/s/question/0D53b00008HOPq7CAH/how-do-i-add-timestamp-to-hero-10-videos?language=en_US If you haven’t already requested this feature I recommend requesting it from GoPro as the more people that are interested the more likely they may be to get this made available.
In general, -.5 for the EV will help protect the highlights from blowing out. So yes, I recommend this for the Hero 12 as well. My full settings guide for the Hero 12 is here: ruclips.net/video/ZBoZeI-4w8s/видео.htmlsi=wt4Ga7Qw_cU_zXYU
Hey thanks for sharing this, I really lke the Hero 10. But when im using the settings you recommend for talking to the camera my skin tones looks weird. The only thing I see I have not done is setting the white balance to 5500K. Can that be the reason why my skin tones looks weird?( I have it on auto). You got a new subscriber from Norway.
You’re welcome. White Balance can make a difference with skin tones. You could also try setting the Color to Flat or Vibrant instead of Natural to see if you like any of those better. It’s most likely either White Balance or Color affecting this. Thank you for your support!
If you want to tell a story on your hike you would probably want to use several of these modes. When you’re talking to the camera I recommend using the custom mode since that is 24fps. When filming something you want to do a slo-mo cut of I recommend using the slo-mo mode. Otherwise I recommend the standard mode for most b-roll type shots as this will give you footage with the most flexibility when editing later on.
Thanks for the help with my settings, although I'm having trouble with the application Quik, can't connect, it just doesn't work right, it could be me, but why should it be that hard , just to up load to RUclips, and it overheats, while I'm trying to connect to the app,
You’re welcome. Unfortunately the Quik app I have found to be buggy and inconsistent in the past. I have found it works better on iPhone devices than on Android. GoPro developers have come a long way with the app but it can certainly still use improvement.
I would say this is a fairly subjective question as there are a lot of various opinions and preferences. I prefer Premiere Pro personally but for free video editing software VideoProc Vlogger is especially great for GoPro videos. DaVinci Resolve is a great free option as well but does have a bit more of a learning curve. The Quik app does work nicely for GoPro editing on iOS.
Thanks for your awesome settings!! I see that your unable to use SuperView in 4k 120. Hopefully, this will be available in a future firmware update. Thanks again, appreciate your help in setting everything up! 😊👍
Good info, just lock the focus on the camera you are recording this type of video. The focus locking on your thumb when you change settings can drive someone crazy. Content is excellent though.
Very detailed video. I just sold my Lumix G85 since so many realtors and brokers weren't too keen on it. Some in my area have referred to them as camera snobs. I am just getting into real estate photography and videography. And oddly enough, there are many new realtors I've recently met who like the quality of the Go Pro 8, 9 and especially this 10. I am going to start my new career using the Go Pro 10 this Spring, because of the amount of realtors in my area that approve of it. Can you do a video detailing the settings and what accessories would be essential? I also need to buy a laptop for editing that I believe you already did very recently.
That’s great to hear. The super wide angle lens on the GoPro is definitely useful for real estate photography. The biggest challenge using the GoPro would be overcoming the low light indoors with the sensor size being what it is on the GoPro. However, nearly all of the same principles of low light and night light filming with the GoPro will apply for indoor filming as well. I recommend checking out the settings and tools I recommend in this video: ruclips.net/video/2OrNT5e-1u4/видео.html I’ve experimented with these tools and settings a bit in indoor settings workout natural light and these have worked pretty well.
@@GreatDayForAHike Didn't you mention that in the wide angle setting, the Go Pro 10 has the fish eye effect? If so, can that be corrected in Adobe Lightroom?
Yes, get one or two of the new Enduro batteries GoPro is releasing in November (see here: gopro.com/en/us/news/hero10-black-video-performance-modes-and-enduro-battery). The batteries will cost $24.99 but if you are a GoPro subscriber they should be only $19.99. Looks like some great innovation on the part of GoPro.
Nice video. I set my white balance to Native and the colour to Flat so that the gopro doesn't adjust the colours so I can get best results tweaking them later to get the most out of shadows and, with the -.5ev, the highlights as well. Can't you still use Raw Audio when there is an external mic connected to create a wav file for the mic input? What do the different setting underneath Raw Audio use? The media Mod works, it's the Max Lens Mod that comes out in the November update.
White Balance of Native also works well as that is a specific value and not constantly changing like Auto. Flat is also great for the color mode if you want to do color correction with editing. Great choices for max editing control. Great questions. The three different settings under Raw Audio apply various levels of processing to the Raw audio tracks if set to anything but Off. My understanding is these only apply to the in-camera audio only and will apply multiple audio tracks from the different mics with varying levels of processing based on the selection under Raw Audio. In that situation I recommend keeping Raw Audio to Low for maximum control with audio editing later on. I’ll test this out next time I have my external mic connected and see if setting it to Low offers me additional audio and if that comes from my external mic or the in-camera mics. Thanks for the clarification on the mods.
Thanks. It looks like the media mod is now supported and the only mod we’re waiting on is the Max Lens Mod which will get support with the November firmware update.
@@GreatDayForAHike thanks a lot bro. planning to buy hero 10 and thinking which audio input is the best. will you recommend media mod over this usb with jack input? got gopro max and dont have any idea about the accessories for hero black
The media mod does in some ways offer an easier/more efficient way to connect an external mic if you wish to do so. The USB-C to 3.5mm audio connector costs less but does hang off the camera. So it’s pros and cons both ways.
Hello.. great video. I have a hero 8 black that I use mainly as a dash cam while on vacation at death valley/ mount Whitney area. Do you think the 10 is worth the cost just to upgrade?
Great question. If you’re using it mainly as a dash cam I would say the Hero 8 would still be quite useful and not worth the upgrade. Dash cam video at 5.3K vs 4K would not be a significant difference and the Hero 8 does offer that frame rate of 60 at 4K which is more than enough for dash cam footage.
I’ve used as old as the Hero 6 Black within the past few months and still love the older GoPro and find use cases where I prefer them over the 10. So yeah you can’t go wrong with the 8 when you have a good use case for it like this.
@@GreatDayForAHike I've watched a lot of video for night laps. I've tried some some turn out good and some don't any suggestions on settings from going to night today on the nightlapse

In the previous gen GoPro the medium was quite good, in the GP10 the medium is a touch to sharp and the low is to low…
Yes, the sharpness setting does need some fine-tuning. I opt for medium in most cases because I think some of the detail gets lost on low, even when bringing out the sharpness later on while editing. I expect to see GoPro fine tune this a little further when the next firmware update is released on or around November 16th.

@@GreatDayForAHike good explanation. I subscribed to your channel, hope to get more tips to you, but how about best indoor setting? I do film coffee.
Thank you for your support! I’ll do some more testing indoors and then create a video that shows best settings specific for indoor filming.
@@GreatDayForAHike cheers and many thanks for your kind help.

You’re welcome!
Fantastic summary. Thanks
You’re welcome.
This is correct. On the newest firmware the options should be standard or boosted.
Thank you friend! This video helped me a lot. But I have a question, can I keep these settings for shooting at night, in low light, or do I need to increase the ISO?
I created a video dedicated to low light settings. You can check it out here: ruclips.net/video/U60jBxwXSMw/видео.html
Correction: this in the low light video: ruclips.net/video/2OrNT5e-1u4/видео.html
Though that one for indoor light has many similar settings.
Nice video, however you should put your camera to manual focus to avoid blur each time we see your hand.
Thanks. Feedback noted and I agree.
Good explanation...❤️☺️
Thank you.
Nice explanation of settings.....Thanks...

I really amazed the action cam like Gopro, this is high quality but it's so very high price!
It really is a great camera.
What is the setting when I am talking in front of the camera? Thank you
Generally, the custom mode setting of 4K24 is my preference for this setting.

Hi,
Thanks for responding to my inquiry, and again, for all the helpful videos.
Kind regards,
Mark
@globalfunseeker6733 Sounds like you got a pretty good deal overall. Thanks and enjoy your Hero 10!
Thank you so much for the thorough och detailed instruction. It will helps me a lot.
You’re welcome!
Thanks for the tutorial. I silently know I have one for Christmas 🙈. But what software/program do you use for editing?
I primarily use Adobe Premiere Pro but also recommend DaVinci Resolve for a no-cost option. The free version of DaVinci Resolve is a powerful and capable video editing tool.
@@GreatDayForAHike cool. thanks for the recommend
You can read more about what GoPro has said here: community.gopro.com/s/question/0D53b00008HOPq7CAH/how-do-i-add-timestamp-to-hero-10-videos?language=en_US
If you haven’t already requested this feature I recommend requesting it from GoPro as the more people that are interested the more likely they may be to get this made available.
@@GreatDayForAHike I have already done that, and if you read the link, the Labs thing does not work.
Well explained settings. kudos!
Thank you!
Very informative! I love my Gopro Hero 10 🤙
Thank you! It’s a great camera.
Good tutorial. Thank very much.
Thank you and I appreciate your feedback!
should we also set the -5 EV comp on the go pro 12 ?
In general, -.5 for the EV will help protect the highlights from blowing out. So yes, I recommend this for the Hero 12 as well. My full settings guide for the Hero 12 is here: ruclips.net/video/ZBoZeI-4w8s/видео.htmlsi=wt4Ga7Qw_cU_zXYU
appreciated with like, thanks for the turorial.

Great video. Sure appreciate your ability to explain what should be done to create great videos.
Thank you for your feedback and I’m glad you found this helpful.
What are the best settings for hiking
If you want to tell a story on your hike you would probably want to use several of these modes. When you’re talking to the camera I recommend using the custom mode since that is 24fps. When filming something you want to do a slo-mo cut of I recommend using the slo-mo mode. Otherwise I recommend the standard mode for most b-roll type shots as this will give you footage with the most flexibility when editing later on.
What settings would you use if your using the max lens?
In this video I outline the best settings that I recommend for the Max Lens Mod. ruclips.net/video/PXsY2czyKNQ/видео.html
What is the best video editing software for a window laptop and what iOS app do you recommend for video editing.
Thanks for your honest answer…..
It was helpful mate
Thank you for your feedback.
Thanks for your awesome settings!! I see that your unable to use SuperView in 4k 120. Hopefully, this will be available in a future firmware update. Thanks again, appreciate your help in setting everything up! 😊👍

@@GreatDayForAHike what the best setting for record video in 4K using tripod for solo camping?
Good info, just lock the focus on the camera you are recording this type of video. The focus locking on your thumb when you change settings can drive someone crazy. Content is excellent though.
I appreciate the feedback. I’ll make it a point to do that in the future for better presentation and to not detract from the content being presented.

I recommend checking out the settings and tools I recommend in this video: ruclips.net/video/2OrNT5e-1u4/видео.html
I’ve experimented with these tools and settings a bit in indoor settings workout natural light and these have worked pretty well.
@@GreatDayForAHike Didn't you mention that in the wide angle setting, the Go Pro 10 has the fish eye effect? If so, can that be corrected in Adobe Lightroom?
Yes it does and yes it can be. In Lightroom you can load the lens profile for the GoPro Hero 10 and remove the distortion.
@@GreatDayForAHike Good to know, thanks. 👍
Camera is amazing but I'm not satisfy with battery life . Do you have any suggestions?
Yes, get one or two of the new Enduro batteries GoPro is releasing in November (see here: gopro.com/en/us/news/hero10-black-video-performance-modes-and-enduro-battery).
The batteries will cost $24.99 but if you are a GoPro subscriber they should be only $19.99. Looks like some great innovation on the part of GoPro.
Great job, this is very helpful :)
Thank you!
Thank you for the setting
You’re welcome!
very nice explanation bro😍
Thank you!
Great brother 👍🏻😍
Thank you.
nice video bro. can i ask. this time the media mod still not supported?
@@GreatDayForAHike thanks a lot 🙏🏻

Hello.. great video.
@@GreatDayForAHike thank you. I shoot a lot while driving and was thinking 400 is a lot of money

I’ve used as old as the Hero 6 Black within the past few months and still love the older GoPro and find use cases where I prefer them over the 10. So yeah you can’t go wrong with the 8 when you have a good use case for it like this.
