The law has always been clear, for many years. Dispersed camping on a specific site on federal land is only allowed for 14 days withing a 28 consecutive day period. The rangers have had the legal authority to remove the permanent campers all along.
That’s not necessarily true. Until recently most people across the country assumed they could lawfully arrest homeless trespassers from government property but it required a USSC ruling to make it so. It’s easy to assume what’s clear and what isn’t when the law isn’t yours to interpret and/or enforce. Here there was likely a rule but no specific penalty or plan for holdovers refusing to vacate after the promulgated response has been taken (issuing citations). As a judge and after spending 30 years in the military, I can assure you that if laws were always clear as you’ve deemed them to be in this case, courts would be moot and it would be a free for all. Your tone implies the park service has failed to enforce law that’s crystal clear according to you. So I’m sure you’ve reviewed all the regulations created by the agency to carry out the aforementioned statutory duties, those that set forth the specific procedures by which the agency operates on a daily basis and deals with these kind of issues. It’s not the statute that’s unclear-it’s the lack of defined enforcement action once they’ve taken the specific action(s) provided by the existing statute. In fact, the story even mentioned there is an upcoming open forum seeking questions and comments on the matter. Why it’s almost as though they’re engaging in formal rulemaking to fill the gap of whatever does or doesn’t exist or is inadequate. But sure, it’s obviously crystal clear. Because you said so.

It is hard to stomach the fact that we have such a wonderful resource and people just trash it. No respect at all, not for the public and not for the resource.
I live in an RV and I find it extremely hard to get rid of garbage because of the prices. I'm on a fixed income and it's just not easy. I'm not a pig but it is hard to keep up on garbage bags and dumping and paying for garbage it's not cheap.
Maybe you've never had to worry about it.. get out in the world a little bit more
I don't know I'm just saying...
Everywhere I try hiking with my dogs I run into Bum Trash and Bum Camps. Its so sad that our Government allows these people to ruin everything but they come after me for fishing.
We need to create areas designated for "permanent campers". These need to be away from population centers and given access to basic food, water and plumbing. Such areas need to be policed enough to ensure they remain drug free.
There’s plenty of places already. They are called rv parks 😂😂😂😂😂
You go! You forcibly move them into those SMART CITIES 😂
would you rather have the homeless in your backyard or the middle of nowhere
Maybe people will be able to go on vacation somewhere, without this dangerous mess all around.
right on they will be on your block now
Just what the heck does "unhoused" mean?!
Bum, hobo...
Anybody remember to notify Bob from CheapRVliving?
Being homeless is one thing, being a pig us another
We cant patrol the lake and hand out tickets!
Well Arizona isn't to far away. Free deep desert camping for all who get physically ill at the mention of work , Job . Paycheck.
Next clean out the channels of homeless high amounts of covid sars is pouring out from under vegas. Enforce the law. Find an answer to help homeless. We need better health care as well. Vegas is just a waste land.
yes about time get them out of here
GO RANGERS!!! Keep our park clean! Protect us taxpayers and we'll ❤️ you! The LAST thing NV needs is to look like CA.
They should be made to clean up their trash until there’s not even cigarettes on the ground. Then get community service until all of the park is clean.
Commercial
Kampala is Begging for Ten Dollars..
I’m so sick of that ad, I tried to block it many of times but they won’t stop showing it.
she is getting those dollars too..and she is gonna win
They all are.
But she ain't no billionaire who puts his sons to beg for money for his legal problems. He has no agenda, doesn't remember names, can't quote the bible, Is a poor example of a husband and a poor example of a father with his daughter. He is afraid to debate, He will be sentenced soon. I hope you enjoy his sneakers and his bible. See you in November.

Need the carrot or stick approach. Accept help or go to jail and still get help!
cant have people damaging the bottom of a dried up lake bed in the middle of the desert
Trash trashing up the place..
Jesus Christ please intervene and bring Your perfect will for all so they can live well and be ok . 😢 Amen
Two hands doing something are better than a million clasped in prayer. There are no imaginary guys in the sky…
I’m so tired of all the lawlessness in our country.
Finally the park service is going to do their job … the lake has been there for years and they have known the high traffic areas and haven’t done what they get paid to do … pathetic…
