    The law has always been clear, for many years. Dispersed camping on a specific site on federal land is only allowed for 14 days withing a 28 consecutive day period. The rangers have had the legal authority to remove the permanent campers all along.

    • @fashiondiva6972
      @fashiondiva6972 2 месяца назад +4

      That’s not necessarily true. Until recently most people across the country assumed they could lawfully arrest homeless trespassers from government property but it required a USSC ruling to make it so. It’s easy to assume what’s clear and what isn’t when the law isn’t yours to interpret and/or enforce. Here there was likely a rule but no specific penalty or plan for holdovers refusing to vacate after the promulgated response has been taken (issuing citations). As a judge and after spending 30 years in the military, I can assure you that if laws were always clear as you’ve deemed them to be in this case, courts would be moot and it would be a free for all. Your tone implies the park service has failed to enforce law that’s crystal clear according to you. So I’m sure you’ve reviewed all the regulations created by the agency to carry out the aforementioned statutory duties, those that set forth the specific procedures by which the agency operates on a daily basis and deals with these kind of issues. It’s not the statute that’s unclear-it’s the lack of defined enforcement action once they’ve taken the specific action(s) provided by the existing statute. In fact, the story even mentioned there is an upcoming open forum seeking questions and comments on the matter. Why it’s almost as though they’re engaging in formal rulemaking to fill the gap of whatever does or doesn’t exist or is inadequate. But sure, it’s obviously crystal clear. Because you said so.

      Who has enough potable water in their camper for more than that?

    You can be homeless without being a trashy person! I lived in RV's for over 12 years and the spots I camped at never looked like those places! I stayed at state and national parks and moved to a different one every two weeks, because that was the rules. These people think rules don't apply to them, just because they're homeless!

    • @American_Made
      @American_Made 2 месяца назад +4

      Many people chose to stay homeless because they don't want to participate or are unable to play the game of life, so they just give up and show their indifference by being a pain in the ass. It's their way of lashing back at responsible and respectable society by showing their indifference to their order and civility. Childish behavior by grown children that don't want to stop their addictions. Vast majority of these people are on the streets because they make bad choices. it's that simple.

    There are 1200+ unused military bases in the United States California alone has several unused bases that are literally like towns. Hundreds of houses, schools, businesses, etc

      Many of the unused bases have buildings dating to WWII.. Cheaply built, intended for temporary use.
      I had the pleasure of being asked to inspect such a building for possible repair. It was being used as an active base's child care center. One of the staff FELL THROUGH THE FLOOR.
      My recommendation was:
      "The termites have abandoned the building. Surround it with fire trucks and strike a match."
      That was in 1990.

    Same thing with BLM and the "off-roading community".....the BLM does not enforce the typical 14-day rule for camping and when it turns into a drug infested den, trashed beyond belief, they turn around and shut down the area to the recreationalist.

    So they are closing Government Wash and 8 mile Road to camping. Why do they not enforce the 14 day camping limit? At the 14 day mark put a tag on the trailer/shelter and then 3 days later just tow it way. I have been out at the wash and have seen trailers out their for months. The Forest Servce and BLM are also starting to do such, close of select areas to camping. Combine these along with other government restrictions to public lands - such as environmental closures, wilderness areas, extending national monuments to lands, military withdrawals, etc - I see public lands no longer becoming public. I am sure this will come to a head in the courts, as the recent Supreme Court Ruling overturnign the Cheveron Decision restricts government agencies from making policy or laws that are not actually approved by Congress.

      Yep if any questions this then just like at a night shot of earth from the space station. It’s literally a few globs of light for the western 1/3 of the country. It’s not till you get your Midwest where it starts to get more populated

    Barricading Government Wash instead of continuing to move permanent homeless campers out is wrong because it punishes the majority of campers who abide by the law while enjoying this location. This action has given the law breaking homeless people the power to prevent innocent Americans and Canadians from camping and enjoying America. The homeless will simply move on to another location and this same action will likely be repeated many more times until there is no where else to camp for us law abiding good people.

    We need to create areas designated for "permanent campers". These need to be away from population centers and given access to basic food, water and plumbing. Such areas need to be policed enough to ensure they remain drug free.
