Hideous but fast! Not for me.. I prefer that £500 Volvo in your last video Matt. More class and style. Why do all electric cars leave me cold / no emotional attachment?
Electric works where i live in Norway, a large sparsley populated country, but Britain has too many cars. For every petrol pump, you need about 40 chargers. First of all an electric has about halfthe range, so they need charged twice as often, secondly even a short charge of about 60% takes about 20 times longer to fill a tank.
But 60% will charge at home overnight and rarely use public chargers. That leaves 40% who may need public chargers if they can’t charge at work. There are already the same number of chargers as there are petrol pumps in the UK and the network is growing rapidly. We’ve reached this point while EVs make up 10% of all the cars on UK roads. With plug-in car sales the fastest growing sector, there’s more reason than ever to continue to invest and innovate. Chargers and onboard chargers are getting ever quicker, range is getting ever longer and public charging costs are slowly coming down and in many cases (eg Tesla Superchargers) make long journeys considerably cheaper than driving a diesel. Nothing you’ve said is completely untrue (except the exaggeration re: 1 petrol pump: x40 chargers) and as with everything in the world, they’re not perfect, but many of those critical of EVs don’t take into account that it’s still early days for EVs. There’s continual and rapid progress all the time and all of your remaining concerns are being addressed.

Got to admire Hyundai/Kia/Genesis for being brave with styling and they are all very well screwed together. Problem is economics (EV's in China now cheaper than ICE) and tech (eg solid state batteries) are moving so fast that depreciation of suddenly obsolete EV's is a major problem. A used GV70 is very tempting.
Just one honest question to ask, driving it hard as 6 or 4 seconds to sixty is available, what would be the range then. that is the question. 60 thousand British pounds to have range anxiety I guess.
@@albertsmith1048 Good question. It doesn’t really harm efficiency too much in an electric car. Eg if we’re talking about a motorway slip road, mashing the pedal up to 70 and then cruising would not use much more energy than slowly accelerating to 70. A petrol or diesel engine would create lots of noise and heat to accelerate harshly meaning lots more energy is wasted. Many more moving parts mean greater efficiency losses from engine to wheel. In an EV you also reclaim some of the energy used in acceleration when you slow down using the regenerative braking. Hope that makes sense? It’s something I’ve only recently learned and thought it was interesting.
You right Matt from the outside it's a bit of a ugly duckling, but the interior is genuinely brilliant but when you said how much it is I was gobsmacked. 60k is as you said a hell of a lot. I really like the GV80 diesel and looked at one at a car show. I know it will be more reliable and better built than a Mercedes but my problem is they don't have showrooms. I wish they would occupy a section of a Hyundai showroom like Lexus did with Toyota when they started out - it didn't work out too badly for them?
I like Genesis but it's to niche for me, the problem is if turned up with 5 year old GV70 to trade in for example you could lowball me because nobody knows the brand.Lovely cars but only buy on lease.
A 280 mile range is maybe great for around town and goung to work etc but again its uselss going on holiday... It's around that to my sons house and thats cutting it fine then nowhere to charge it at his house
Ask your mechanic to check it out. SHE would run a mile, they need special equipment to even look at them, most independent garages can’t work on them.
I don’t see why anyone would buy this car when you can spend less to get a ev6 or Ioniq5, which are both better cars, or pay a bit kore and get a gv70 ev
That steering wheel centre looks Chrysler like. To much Gizmo Gizmo to go wrong. if I was in the marker for an EV I like the look of the Kia EV6. Only my thoughts though.
Those seats and steering wheel aren't going to stay that colour for long, but I don't think it'll date as much as Kia and Hyundai do. Still not for me, depreciation is a killer on any electric car.
Not for me and not to sure of its looks. We have a dealership in my local shopping centre and as wonderful as some people think they look I think they are quite chins! My main problem is though that they remind me so much of Infinity cars and they didn’t last.
Do the tax incentives on EVs for businesses stretch to used EVs?? All electric cars are ludicrously expensive but for £50k you could get a used Taycan 4S or Etron GT and at that price it’s an insane deal. When a 500e and Mini electric are 30-40k and an Astra is over 30k….
It was an honest review but I think for £61k I'd want the boot lid to be properly aligned LOL. The styling is like Marmite; it struck me as being retro futuristic in a concept car of twenty years ago sort of way. I also don't get why there are essentially 3 variants of this car, each with its own badge. It just doesn't make sense. In fact the whole 'buying a new EV' thing makes no sense to the ordinary person in the street, he she or they simply cannot afford one. Even if I had the money to do so, I just wouldn't. I could reel off a dozen cars I'd far rather buy for the money (and the character)!
All these electric cars are well overpriced. It is no wonder they are not selling to the average man in the street. As you said the exterior design is nothing to write about.
I always avoid things that have over engineering on everyday use things in the car, it’s like the jag air conditioning vents flipping up, Audi screen flipping up and now that gear selector flipping up. As much as someone would tell me it won’t go wrong, why take the chance 😆
As a Jag XF owner, i'll have you know the vents opening and gear knob rising is part of the charm haha. Havent had any issues.

It's the price of the vehicle. If you're intent on paying that kind of money for an electric vehicle, I think the GV70 is the better option.
cleft pallette 😆
Should You Buy a Genesis GV60?...........no
Yep the exterior let’s it down,I was getting old Citroen c4 vibes but worse!!!!
Things you have to do to keep making the I may have massively over spent.
Scared of the future, I'm violently allergic to LED lighting so the dashboard lighting. In these electric cars could kill me.
😖
What's wrong with advisory 'bongs' when exceeding the speed limit? I wonder if you'd be doing 34 in a 30 limit with a BMW traffic car sat behind you?
I suspect that even if I waited for a dirt cheap s/hand model the insurance would be astronomical with that performance.
Hi Matt
please consider for guys like me
a total outlay cost lease
insurance warranty
projected running costs
Thanks
Ask your mechanic to check it out. SHE would run a mile, they need special equipment to even look at them, most independent garages can’t work on them.
I don’t see why anyone would buy this car when you can spend less to get a ev6 or Ioniq5, which are both better cars, or pay a bit kore and get a gv70 ev
That steering wheel centre looks Chrysler like. To much Gizmo Gizmo to go wrong. if I was in the marker for an EV I like the look of the Kia EV6. Only my thoughts though.
Gear selector, director, injector? Sounds like his Huddersfield brethren DJ Smile 😂
Sorry Matt, I disagree.
I think the syling is utterly gorgeous.
Front, back and sides. Love it.
Me too.
Beauty. Keyholder. 😊
An interesting vehicle indeed 👌👌
Those seats and steering wheel aren't going to stay that colour for long, but I don't think it'll date as much as Kia and Hyundai do. Still not for me, depreciation is a killer on any electric car.
I like the looka but the EV6 looks better. They're depreciating like crazy so maybe in a few years buy a used one?
Matt in answer to the question 100% no .
😅
Saw the thumbnail and immediatly thought "Kia EV6"
Not for me and not to sure of its looks. We have a dealership in my local shopping centre and as wonderful as some people think they look I think they are quite chins! My main problem is though that they remind me so much of Infinity cars and they didn’t last.
Saw it and also thought £40k. £61k? No thanks and the front is minging,
Nice car but the only thing that puts me off is the fact its Korean. Hyundai/Kia arnt exactly known for longevity in the industry
You could get the Kia Niro 4 for a lot less and not much less gear 😊
Do the tax incentives on EVs for businesses stretch to used EVs?? All electric cars are ludicrously expensive but for £50k you could get a used Taycan 4S or Etron GT and at that price it’s an insane deal. When a 500e and Mini electric are 30-40k and an Astra is over 30k….
Hi Matt, thought you were a straight forward petrol guy...no thanks I'll stick to my V8 XK..
I could reel off a dozen cars I'd far rather buy for the money (and the character)!
musk is going to bring a water power car next year for 4 £20,000 or under that gives 400 miles cheers
No he isn't. It was clickbait....
All these electric cars are well overpriced. It is no wonder they are not selling to the average man in the street. As you said the exterior design is nothing to write about.
