  • Today we confront one of my biggest artistic fears - painting on a larger surface! Up until this point I've only painted on watercolor paper up to about 11x14 in size. I'm always pushing myself to reach further and today we tackle two new paintings that are bigger than this.

I have this huge 30x40" panel that is primed and I painted the background a solid black and haven't touch it for like a month! It's the biggest painting I have ever done and none of the ideas I have seem good enough!

I hope you enjoyed working on large canvases. My art prof said people tend to start small and work up. It opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Thank you for showing the wood canvases. I stretch canvas on a frame and use 100% cotton awning material. My stash is running out. It's 20 years old. So this is a nice alternative. Plus, stretching canvas is kind of hard.

I like this idea more than stretching watercolor paper like canvas. I'll have to try this. thanx for the idea!

Found this video incredibly interesting and informative. I had no idea that gluing paper to wood was a thing! I definitely need to start working more traditionally. Love your work. Great job!

What are your favourite black pens that do not smudge?

:) Another question, how come you got a watermark? I seal paper on wood too and never got watermarks a this point. The only time I got watermarks is when I tried to seal my whole artwork with resin and if my final project wasn't sealed to be waterproof, then the resin would soak in. I actually have two videos on this on YT. I am just curious what happened in your case, so I avoid the same mistake if possible.

Imperial size watercolor paper (the giant paper lol) usually have watermark on one side and when you get light through them you can see them better. I think she might accidently put the watermark side on the front so when you paint over it you can see the paper watermark bc they're kinda carved(?) On the paper

    Great videos, Naomi!
You asked what projects we may be putting off - for me, it's the portrait of a Chihuahua as Napoleon. Don't know what the deal is, but it keeps getting moved back. Hmm.
Live the videos. Can't wait to see more! :)

    way to many Things...
But at least I tackled some more digital drawing and trying to implement it on my channel to Keep going.
But the biggest Thing I'm putting a bit of is trying to decide how I want to start my freelance Career...I am in an election test for Animation for a possible Job, but then again, my personal art would be nice as well....putting of the decision to include it in my professional life or have it as a completely second activity, so that I don't depend on it. I think you can maybe relate with that sturggle? as most artists do :)

Naomi VanDoren thx for the reply.
Yes, I'm just giving my all with this test atm. And if it turns out positive, I will take that first job. It will only be one year, a movie production in the city I live. Maybe after that I can consider a more personal idea. But at least There should be some savings and a good job reference by then :)

I enjoyed this one, as always. I wondered what your fears were about it. I know you said you hadn't done it before and there can be certain challenges, but what is the fear? Is it a fear of it not turning out the way you hoped? What's the worst thing that could happen?
Also, (and this is an aunt thing here) you're not an idiot - you made a mistake. I know you don't REALLY think you're an idiot, but I think we all need to be aware of the way we talk to ourselves. And the people who view the video need to know they aren't idiots when they make mistakes, too. :-)
I like how you sometimes say "we". It makes it feel like we, the viewers, are part of the process.
I'm so glad you're doing these!!
