Hi William, I wondered if you determined the function of the 3 grub screws that are on the side dial face? I have the smaller J model, and it appears they may have a function for reducing play in the cross slide? thx
Hello William, Thanks for doing a great and thorough video on the Chandler Boring head.Like you I saw my first one on the Ox Tool channel which set off one of those impulsive," I gotta have one of those tools ASAP!",moments.I found my Mod. D on E-Bay from the son of the original owner about 18 months ago.He was a nice guy and seemed to be honest w/ his answers so I felt comfortable when choosing to buy from him. Also, you hit the nail on the head when pointing out those two commonly lost pieces of hardware as mine were missing both pieces as well. The travel limiter is really nothing more than a long set screw and a nut, but the engagement pin had dimensions that I would have to figure out on my own, that is until your video came along.Your complete breakdown of the head was also very helpful since I cut any major disassembly a pretty wide berth for the time being. I hope that you've been pleased w/ the Chandler unit up to this point. Thanks again friend. Regards, Jamison
Jamison, thanks for the comment, glad to have helped. I figure thats what You-Tube is all about!!!. I am please with mine and have used it on several projects. Have a great day.
Really a nice piece of gear and compact too.........I have a Tree boring and facing head which is a bit bigger than the Chandler...... too big for my immediate needs.........I've just downsized to a smaller bench mill so I most likely will be selling the Tree on and looking for a Chandler probably, wishes being horses beggars will ride etc. I already have a Bridgeport boring head and a Chinese EBAY bought one and toyed with the idea of getting it to do facing but quite a difficult project ........it's very interesting to see how the facing mechanism works......a bit beyond a DIY build solution to make one but not impossible.........at the very worst case scenario I'll have to resort to trepanning any facing needs I have to do, or resort to boring and facing in the lathe.
beautiful tool and beautiful patent
Thank you, sir, for a complete disassembly and a story about how the boring head is arranged. It will help a lot in my attempts to do this on my own.

I have the same head. Mine says "D63" but, like you, I have no idea what that means. I did put a Morse taper on mine. Thanks for the disassembly.
