I just changed my coolant pipe and thermostat housing last weekend, before seeing this video. I did it without removing the intake. If I had to do it all again...I would've removed the intake too. In parallel, soaked/cleaned the intake valves with Seafoam and a pipe brush (for cylinders 1 &4, and then 2 & 3). In any event, I luckily had a boroscope with me because that damned crossover pipe broke apart at the end nearest the water pump. Thank goodness I also had a really long pick and that lighted boroscope, to fish out the plastic bits. The whole process introduced me to the creative side of new four letter words.
That being said, my Mini Clubman S R55 (N14) is a terrific vehicle to drive and really convenient for around town. Mine is also a 2008 model...but I take care of it inside and out. Change the oil and other fluids frequently. By staying ahead of the maintenance...it's been a solid vehicle. It's still a looker after all these years.
Next up...changing the oil filter housing and oil cooler gaskets (from which there is a typical oil leak). The garage that did the timing chain AND turbo, about 20K miles ago, never bothered to consult on changing the original oil housing/oil cooler gaskets while the car was already in frontend maintenance mode. They also replaced the oil feed line with the rigid line, instead of recommending the flex braided S.S. line upgrade. A$$h0les! Never again. Screw those bastards...I will do the job myself. Never going back to that garage. I know enough about my Mini, after over spending with the garage, to do things myself. Bought the parts and tools...the rest is RUclips, patience, and elbow grease.
Thanks for this excellent content. Well done!

    Great video!
I have 2012 MCS and found the coolant was leaking underneeth the oilpan side. So I’ve replaced the water pump, and found a peace of pipe tip in the water pump hole😂
Deffinietly the pipe has cracked and makes the leaking, so I was searching for replacement video.
Your video is really clear and shows what I should do! Thanks a lot!

Coolant was leaking from the thermostat housing, so I replaced it, but I couldn't remove the water pipe, so I gave up. Removing the intake manifold to replace it is a high hurdle for me.
