It looks so easy..... when a real MASTER does it.
That is quite possibly the most badass beard in the history of beards.
Should go on tour with ZZTop :D
@@machbauer132 Dusty Hill does not approve of your comment!
He's the Gandalf of music.
@@Adunapheth YOU SHALL NOT BASS! (For I shall bass.)
Roughly 10 years after Phil Collins had done the No Jacket Required tour in which Mr. Sklar was his bass guitarist and background vocalist, I watched the video that HBO had aired in 1985 from their appearance in Dallas. I literally believed Mr. Sklar had been a member of ZZ Top. That’s how provincial I was when I was just learning to play music myself.
Love the beard, It has it's own frequency.🎶🎶
Thanks Leland! You are the most humble bass player ever!
Facebook is a blight on Society...Lee you are an astounding gentleman...don’t let the elitists grind you down..your amazing contribution to popular music spans 50 years...you are an example of an amazing musician& human being.
Good thing FB isn't the only outlet. If YT ever decides to block him, we'll just have to come up with our own platform for people with good taste!
I am a musician of over 35 years and have seen you so many times but only from a distance. "Who is that guy with the great beard and exceptional playing?" I know now!! Thanks for these videos, I feel like I know you personally now.
The only thing I don't like about the good is days of Leland and Phil? Mr Sklar's beard has color! Lol
Leland sklar dont lnow why people have been saying bad things about you i have been listening with your bass playing with james taylor i love your base line in all of jt songs God Bless You.
We love you, Leland. This country lost its mind.
Thank you Leland for sharing some joy.
I don't give 2 shyts about your political views , I love music and the stories of it's creation . I'm watching this at 5 am while I'm getting ready to work . I'm 47 I've played music for 30ish yrs . Love watching the switch's turn
Resist Fake News - Thank you Sir - Here in 2023 from 🇨🇦
Thank you Lee. Music conquers all.
I know because your expertise that you would do it "technically better", but i prefer this intimate, human and simple setup. I'm moving my head and my feet with the bassline from thousands of kilometers from you. Thanks (again) Leland!
How someone could dislike Mr. Sklar is beyond my comprehension
My thoughts exactly I mean what kind of Life do you have if you got to sit around and give a thumbs down to someone who's sharing his heart and passion
I give it a thumbs up before I even watched the video because the man demands respect
Ditto. Actually, he wasn't exactly in the pocket on this but, being a somewhat experienced musician myself, i guessed the reasons for this before he did explain. No reason for thumbs down anyway. Hey, this man is Leland Sklar! He proved he can play so many times, for so long, with so many great artists. What's your CV thumb downers? Thumb down to you!
Still owes me 20 bucks
Unfortunately, these kind of lovely discussions are now a thing of the past ;-) No more thumbs down.
Maybe because he's helping the commieRats and RINOs spread their left-wing fascism that they call "democracy".
This is my favorite style of bass playing. Just in the groove, nothing super fancy, an occasion surprise rise or fall in the run, and a nice upper register reach at the crescendo. Right back into the groove. I could jam like this all day.
Word Rik
Absolutely Right!
Leland Sklar is an absolute genius.
You're so awesome!!
Thanks!!
Thank you for your contribution to some of the greatest music of all time....Love Phil, love you, awesome
As a teenager in the 80s I watched you and thought you were so cool. To see you playing in these videos 30 years later is so amazing. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this, you're still cool.
Former band mate bass player and myself on drums would refer to ourselves as Sklar and Kunckle. We wished anyway. Keep groove ing
Great song and thanks for being amazingly humble.
Thanks for all your nice music
Dear Mr Sklar,
Please make no apologies for your playing! For us less gifted, what you do is great and just getting a feel for how a top player approaches things is a lesson in itself.
Stay safe and please keep posting.
Best Wishes
A 63 yr old bass player from England
Thanks for holding the "base"ment down!
I first listened to him performing with Toto, and luckily I found him here and just can´t stop listening to him.
@hartmut paul For me I think he s just a pretty average bass player.. Walking bass no slapping..Just normal.
Simply world standard, the consumer are pro. Thanks for sharing
One of my favorite Phil songs and always loved this bassline, thank you for sharing it with us!
Still grooving after all these years? Jumping Jesus!
I remembered seeing his name many years ago when he played with Paul Williams. That's a long time.
Keep on grooving, Mr Sklar.
Love your talent. Politics shouldn’t separate us. Differences are a great thing. I respect you and love your channel. Some of my best friends and I don’t agree on politics. But that doesn’t change our friendship.
Leland, I can’t tell you how much I’m enjoying watching these videos. I love your heart, your an AMAZING musician. Thanks for your openness and honesty and I pray you stay safe and sound. Take care
God bless this man. Thanks for this amazing bass lesson, dear Leland.
I'm so glad that you're continuing to post on RUclips; your music is too precious to lose during these trying times! Hang in there, Lee, and we'll hang with you.
Love this tune. Love this man.
Thanks again James, I'm really loving your channel. Really inspiring, I'm off to crank up my old Jupiter 50 and a couple of Moogs and see what can be achieved!
Man, I've been a Genesis and Phil Collins fan for years. Came across your page. I'm embarassed to say you have never been on my radar. Music is such a great journey. Thanks so much for putting these vids up. I've been a bass player for 32 years. A great channel. Keep the posts coming! Your message is reaching folks.
Hi, I´m so glad to see you! This movie appear to me in youtube, i saw "Easy Lover" and only your beard and i thought (maybe is Leland Sklar)! and there you are :)Approximately in 2000 at Phil's concert in Portugal (Lisbon-Estádio do Sporting) I was in the crowd and I waved to you, it was impossible for you to have noticed, but your humility is so much that you noticed it and waved at me at the same time that you played . As I was new and a fan of the band I felt special just for that moment. Stay well.
Hugs
Filipe (Portugal)
PORTUGAL CARALHO
"Portugal Caralho" não conheço...

I am glad you stayed on RUclips Lee! It sounds like you and I are on the same page: Be honest, be kind, do no harm, take no s***! Thank you and keep the videos coming!!
Leland you are my daily shining light at the end of what sometimes seems like, dark days, and, you've inspired me to start again spending time with my bass, so a huge thank you from across the Ocean.
Love Your bass, ‘ve see You in Århus/ Danmark with TOTO. LOVE you as Human. Take care of You! ❤❤❤
The Master of Bass!! #respect 🙌
Your presence, Leland, and some other LEGENDS here has given this time a whole new dimension that is wonderful!!! Thanks a God bless!!!
So glad to see you’re still posting on here Leland. These videos are the best!
Mr Sklar you play so smooth pleasure to hear and watch
Never used book an never will.
Awesome job even with limited gear.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks from UK
Excellent, Sir! This line grooves so hard! Much appreciation to you for taking the time for these
Just love watching you play! Can't get enough of it :-)
I have been in bands for over 40 years you are the best. I've been listening to your work for a very long time. Haters gonna hate.
Good people do good things to/for good people, you know! Love you for what you are ... a phenomenal person and artist ❤
Thank you Mr. Sklar! Truly a great bassline also! Always have loved your style and technique!
I adore this song and your channel.
Thank you Lee for continuing this. I look forward to this every day!
Thank the you! You keep our hearts up in this difficult times. I lost my dog and my job in February. I played guitar with my fellows at work.... and now this pandemia. On the lighter side, I kissed my first love with “do you remember “. Saludos desde México!,
I have some differing political views than you. You’re views are just as important as mine or anyone else’s and I respect them. Music is the universal language- it hits the heart, mind and body like nothing else can. Thanks for continuing to do these vids !! We need it!!!
Hey Leland! Tks for you music... your groove. Greetings from Brazil.
I am a red neck conservative and I think you are such a incredibly nice human being. I don't mind that we probably wouldn't agree with each others philosophies and maybe even total oppisites. I believe that's just fine. I so enjoy you speaking and stories of your incredible life that those differences fade to nothingness. Keep it up and I will continue to support your Facebook and RUclips channel for as long as you grace us with it! Thank you Mr. Leland from the bottom of my heart. When I'm mule riding in the great forests of our country I have your bass blasting away in my earbuds! Stay freaky and sweet my man!
Just learned this one myself on bass. Such a great tune! Of course I don't play it as well as you do good sir.
Watching you from France, where music schools are closed. So Thank you Mr Sklar for sharing these videos, making me want to take my bass and play during this pandemic. Thank you.
This was an absolutely beautiful coincidence. I used to play this song with my band about 25 years ago and totally loved it, I like to think that we made a decent version of it with all its amazing drive, groove and harmony. I still felt the bass line in my fingers note by note, although at the time I took the liberty of adding some octave accents on many of the hooks.
Anyway the funny thing is that today is my birthday, so your greeting really landed in my heart. Thank you so much Leland for being a great inspiration as a bassist, storyteller and human being!
There are no coincidences...
I seem to remember playing this back in the mid 80's... and its crazy, but yes, the bass line in the fingers thing, Wow, that's pretty profound. Thanks for sharing.
Gratulerer med dagen !!!!
One of the greatest live legends of bass playing. Twenty years ago it was unthinkable to watch an almost every day diary of his bass playing.... We are so lucky. This man played with monsters of music history. Chapeau.
Wow, I didn't rehow Central your nass was to this song, absolutely amazing
I absolutely love being able to watch you play in such an intimate setting everyday, and i am loving so much the lessons from just watching you hold your bass, but i think the best thing is that we see you, one of the most accomplished bass players of our time, sitting in front of a camera in home, talking to all of us, and showing that we are all people of the same make and how grand fame can shake away in times like these. There is a feeling of connection that is incredible to feel especially with someone like you. For others watching who may not know Lee that well, i have ran into him a few years at the NAMM show and can honestly say there is a truly awesome guy behind the legacy of his bass playing!
Bass_Baer_Extraordinare - Love this and can 100% believe he is that guy...
Man this series is awesome!! Thank you soo much for posting! I love the baselines in Phil´s music, they totally support the music and stand out in tone and feel... Now really put an eye on the exact groove ;) thank you thank you thank you ;) cheers from Germany
Leland, you are amazing! Thank you so much for this. You bring a smile to my face. All the best to you and stay safe! Big hug.
Being able to give a closer look ( and listend to the parts) is such a huge gift from you to us all. Thank You! i will never forget when i saw you play with Toto in Italy back in 2016
Leland, as a fellow bassist, you and Rocco Prestia have been inspirations to me for over 25 years. Keep on rockin'!
Thank you Leland for continuing your videos on RUclips. You're right about what you stated yesterday about political statements on Facebook.
Most of the extreme right wing stuff stays until eternity on Facebook. All left soft attacks on the right wing governments are removed and you get banned. Here in the Netherlands we have the same frustrating situation.
But one thing’s for sure:
The force of music always wins from self-enriching and
Conscienceless politicians!
Are you living on the same planet? Right wing post are always being attacked, and censored on social media. Fake media is disgusting here in America.
Magnifico ! ....mi tío Merlin ...de la música .....👍👍👍 greetings ,master
I love you Leland!! Thank you for your influence on a ton of my favorite songs!
Lee, I am so glad you mentioned Amanda Marshall. I think you playing through the deep 8th note pocket of "Dark Horse" would be a blessing to online bassists everywhere. Thanks for these great videos!
Lee, you inspire us with your words and your music. I love the sticker on your bass!
I haven’t heard some of these songs for ages (I was an 80s kid and back then only knew Phil Collins as a solo artist), but it amazes me how much of the song’s character is really in the bass part. Lots of groove! Thanks for the great memories.
So kind of you, Mr. Sklar, for taking the time to share your wisdom and bass playing. Keep 'em coming!
Finally Easy Lover! Been waiting for this since you started the quarantine sessions. Definitely my favourite song by Phil, especially the baseline! Thanks buddy
touch *Something Happened on the Way of Heaven* PLEASEEE!!!!!! I LOVE YOU LEE🙌🏻💜🎸🔥

Don't worry about the death threats Leland, we've got your six..
...and I'll scratch their eyes out and use my 3" stilettos to cause damage...💅👠💃
I've played guitar for about 50 years but never played bass. I find this fascinating to watch esp. with Leland.
Bass guitar is very cool....
You have always laid the pocket down so smooth. Love this!

Thank you for a fantastic video, from Johannesburg, South Africa where our lockdown has been extended by another 2weeks. Easy Lover is probably one of my favorite songs. Been watching videos of the song from live shows from 2004 to 2019 with Phil, Amy, Arnold, Darryl, Chester & yourself, all of them just lift the spirits and amazing to see the fun that the whole bank has when performing this song over so many years. Thank you for these videos, I’ll be sure to catch you every day !
I have learned so much watching your videos since you started your channel You are a legend and the fact you are documenting all this means it will be seen and appreciated for YEARS! Thank you for sharing your experiences with all these music legends. Your passion for what you do is exceptional.
