To hear and see a singer of this quality, in person, was transformational. Very special songbird surrounded by great players and Linda encouraged them to shine.
Saw Linda in 1976 in Amsterdam. Same set list and band. I remember that at the end of Love Has No Pride she repeated the last line and the audience was in awe. It took about 10 seconds before we recovered and started to applaud. Andrew Gold and the rest of the band was the opening act. GREAT SHOW. Astounding to hear a singer of this quality in person. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Your observation that she doesn't even seem to breathe is so spot on. It's really uncanny. All her focus was on the music and the singing; clothes were an afterthought. That's fine with me-wouldn't have cared if she even performed in a Cub Scout uniform!
And those musicians! They play anything.... You can see, on other videos, when she is talking to the crowd, that she is not concerned about impressing anybody.. She does a lot of singing with her eyes closed. And she smiles in the middle of songs, she smiles between songs. She enjoys singing, she enjoys making music. It's all about the music. A hard-working country-rock star. That voice, that commanding vibrato, backed by superb musicians. Heaven. I hope that someone will use 21st Century technology to clean up the sound, especially the background hum. This performance has some rough spots, but it's still a gem.
True. Nothing like seeing my idol perform in the 70’s. But we didn’t have these videos either back then. We just had to wait each year for her to make a new album and hear her on the tour. Great memories. So sad she lost her voice in later years.

K. LaCava, all the best to you, too. Try listening to Ms. Ronstadt's 1974 performance in a local venue in Roslyn, NY called My Father's place (I was a clueless 17yr old back then, probably just hanging out in my room a half hour or so away!). The audio is phenomenal because it was being broadcast live on WLIR. She had a bad cold as you'll hear her asking someone in the crowd for a napkin to blow her nose. Her voice did not suffer for it one bit. She also engaged in more patter than she usually does. Think you'll really enjoy it.

This must have been before she did a lot of speed and became thin and played the rock n roll sex kitten role. I love her either way. So save the negative comments. Her stimulant use of cocaine and amphetamines by the time she recorded Simple Dreams are common knowledge. All those sexy photos that came around Simple Dreams were planned to boost her rock n roll image and her bankability. It worked. She became the million dollar woman of rock even though she liked singing ballads better. But Tumbling Dice, You’re no Good, Heatwave, When will I be loved, etc., showed she could belt out rock tunes convincingly. Her rock songs shaped her image as a rock n roll arena performer. She was probably the best female singer ever. She was not a rock n roll singer BUT she could sing rock n roll. She could sing ballads, standards, country, Mexican folk and opera. She was a singer period. Dolly Parton said that she could sing the phone book. Probably so.
@@deadandburied7626 My memory may be faulty, but I seem to recall that Linda wrote in her musical memoirs that she did try cocaine (only once or twice?) but ended up in emergency where she was told quite plainly that if she valued her voice and didn't want to lose it, she should stop. Thank God she did stop or she wouldn't have left us the incredible musical legacy.
@@mr.maxeffortwell, Linda said in Rolling Stone Magazine interview back in early 1970's that she did lots of cocaine for a while especially when on tour and would get lonely.
