    Saw Linda in 1976 in Amsterdam. Same set list and band. I remember that at the end of Love Has No Pride she repeated the last line and the audience was in awe. It took about 10 seconds before we recovered and started to applaud. Andrew Gold and the rest of the band was the opening act. GREAT SHOW. Astounding to hear a singer of this quality in person. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

      So regret not seeing Ms. Ronstadt live in the 70's and 80's when I could've taken a car or train countless times to see her as she embraced and mastered every genre of music. Thank you, Stuart, for fleshing out your memory, and giving me a vicarious moment of joy.

      @@nancygerbutavich1305 Yes, I was lucky that she must've performed hundreds of times within 30 miles of me (even my own college), but I was a fool not to go and see her. Had my vinyls to spin up in my room and thought that was enough.
      Actually, I was an old movie buff, and would set my alarm to watch the golden oldies on TV in the middle of the night (This was pre-VCR.). Of course, I had her greatest hits album from the 70's, but I really got excited when she entered her American Songbook/Nelson Riddle phase. I could've hopped a train and watched her perform at Radio City Music Hall, but alas, I was just not paying attention.
      RUclips has been such a blessing. Saturday night I watched the entire 1981 Central Park performance of "Pirates of Penzance" when she played Mabel-just lovely.
      I think it's great that you and your pals went to see anyone live. Imagine if you could've seen Ms. Ronstadt and others just starting out at the Troubador back in the late 60's/early 70's?
      Thank you for responding. Savor those memories!

      Your observation that she doesn't even seem to breathe is so spot on. It's really uncanny.
      All her focus was on the music and the singing; clothes were an afterthought. That's fine with me-wouldn't have cared if she even performed in a Cub Scout uniform!

    • @thinkerly1
      @thinkerly1 4 года назад +9

      And those musicians! They play anything....
      You can see, on other videos, when she is talking to the crowd, that she is not concerned about impressing anybody.. She does a lot of singing with her eyes closed. And she smiles in the middle of songs, she smiles between songs. She enjoys singing, she enjoys making music. It's all about the music. A hard-working country-rock star. That voice, that commanding vibrato, backed by superb musicians. Heaven. I hope that someone will use 21st Century technology to clean up the sound, especially the background hum. This performance has some rough spots, but it's still a gem.

Try listening to Ms. Ronstadt's 1974 performance in a local venue in Roslyn, NY called My Father's place (I was a clueless 17yr old back then, probably just hanging out in my room a half hour or so away!). The audio is phenomenal because it was being broadcast live on WLIR. She had a bad cold as you'll hear her asking someone in the crowd for a napkin to blow her nose. Her voice did not suffer for it one bit. She also engaged in more patter than she usually does. Think you'll really enjoy it.

    This must have been before she did a lot of speed and became thin and played the rock n roll sex kitten role. I love her either way. So save the negative comments. Her stimulant use of cocaine and amphetamines by the time she recorded Simple Dreams are common knowledge. All those sexy photos that came around Simple Dreams were planned to boost her rock n roll image and her bankability. It worked. She became the million dollar woman of rock even though she liked singing ballads better. But Tumbling Dice, You’re no Good, Heatwave, When will I be loved, etc., showed she could belt out rock tunes convincingly. Her rock songs shaped her image as a rock n roll arena performer. She was probably the best female singer ever. She was not a rock n roll singer BUT she could sing rock n roll. She could sing ballads, standards, country, Mexican folk and opera. She was a singer period. Dolly Parton said that she could sing the phone book. Probably so.

      @@deadandburied7626 My memory may be faulty, but I seem to recall that Linda wrote in her musical memoirs that she did try cocaine (only once or twice?) but ended up in emergency where she was told quite plainly that if she valued her voice and didn't want to lose it, she should stop. Thank God she did stop or she wouldn't have left us the incredible musical legacy.

    • @RandallVentresca
      @RandallVentresca Год назад +3

      @@mr.maxeffortwell, Linda said in Rolling Stone Magazine interview back in early 1970's that she did lots of cocaine for a while especially when on tour and would get lonely. But did have an issue and needed a procedure to clear blood clots in her nose and the doctor told her cocaine could ruin her hearing...so she laid off the stuff for the most part. Linda is allergic to marijuana and alcohol. But has struggled through those years with diet pills and uppers and downers. But Linda is a very bright person and knew when to pull back. Linda was also very active when it came to men. But, there is such a double standard when it comes to the sex life of a woman compared to a man so we won't even go there. This is Linda's personal business.
