It's not just that, while the League Community did beg for Dominion ranked (and Dominion release was insanely hyped, I was there for it), Rito constantly readjusted exp and gold values and then removed the unique items (Kitae's Bloodrazor, Hextech Sweeper, etc.) while never actually doing individual balance changes, shoved bots into blind pick (and admitted to doing so, somewhere), and never did anything to publically draw attention to it after release, which all contributed to it's decline in playerbase. In short they neglected it, probably because they knew it would split their playerbase and they wanted to keep their beloved Summoners Rift as the "Token" of League. (Seriously, the initial hype was huge on release and continued for a while until people realized they weren't doing anything but messing with the gold/exp so it stagnated. It is a common misconception that Dominion was never played or popular, this is *not* the case.) And what a trend that is, they used the same methods to kill off Treeline.
Well luckily it looks like there's a project to revive S2 (Not League of Memories, don't bother with that) that seems to be making great progress. Seems like Treeline (old, before altars) and Dominion already/will be in. Might be worth checking out.
