Carter, this is the best explanation of Notion that I've seen yet. I've been following you for a while and I really enjoy your videos. One question: if I create a page database, then create a linked database say on my homepage. Then I delete the linked database on the home page, will the original page database be deleted also. I want to avoid that. Thanks, Oh, and you should rename the "search" bar to the "Surach" bar! 😁

    • @ProductiveDude
      @ProductiveDude  2 года назад +3

      Thanks for the kind words!
Now the answer to your question is:
If you delete the linked database the full page won't get deleted. If you delete pages out of the linked database however it will effect the full page database. That's the benefit of using full page database. They're much more flexible and easy to save and store even if you don't want to use them on the front of your homepage anymore. Make sense?

Hey, thanks man, that was helpful. I wonder if you could help me with a question. Re: “How to Relate Database” is there a way I could have the relation setup such that from within the “book” I could click the relational link to “notes” and create new record that will automatically relate back to the book. As it is now, when I click the relational link from within the book, I have the option to create a new record in the notes database, but I have to manually relate that note back to the book. Basically, I want the system to assume that when I create a new record in a linked database that I must want it linked back to the record I just came from (to the exclusion of all others)

For some reason, I'm unable to get a "full page" edit mode for a database page...when I click on the "OPEN" in the field, I only get the "Open in Side Peek" option...it never opens a full page. Perhaps this was a later new feature of Notion that wasn't in previous versions when this video was being made last year?

I agree w\everyone else here - thanks so much for this great training on Notion databases!
I'm actually using Notion to prototype a WPF application I've been wanting to write for myself for over a year or so!
My goal was also to have a Notes table for various entities in the app (e.g. Project notes, Task notes etc.)
But in my use case I'd like to be able to tap the parent table cell, and in addition to selecting an existing note, be able to create a NEW note from scratch? (Not create the note first, then go back and link to the note).
Is this currently possible w\Notion? I haven't seen a way to create a new note directly from the table cell?
Creating new related entities right from the parent table cell would be a nice addition IMO!
Again, thanks so much for the time to you invest in making these excellent videos!

    • @ProductiveDude

You can’t put two databases on a full page database because that page IS a database.
      Create a blank page.
Then, type into the page: “/column” tap the two column option.
Next, type in the left column “/create” and you should see “linked database”. Use that block type, then select the database you want to see on the left.
Repeat the last step in the right column with your second database that you want to connect.
      Does that make sense?

There’s an export feature in Notion.
      Read about it here:

Seeing your grocery/shopping list makes wish Notion had a map view. That way instead of saying you got the item from Walmart you could add the link to the specific location and see it on a map.

As a beginner to Notion (as in signed up five days ago), this video gave me hope. I found this video before I found the one that went even more in depth about databases in notion. If you're new to Notion, I highly recommend this video. If you have the time, I'd even encourage you to watch Carter's other video "Notion Databases: Full Guide for Beginners" found here: ruclips.net/video/RCbtQ_Xg7QA/видео.htmlsi=dIkP-DpPL8mzEtO9 . The video about the full guide was the one that made me subscribe to this channel!
