    Ahhhhh! I see. The roll up is just a piece of information from one database that you can pull from when your in another thanks to the relation between the two original datapoints. Establishing the relationship between the two databases gives you access to the other properties for both- like a merging of families. I got it. Be happy to explain the analogy for anyone. 🙂
    Genius! I needed to see the picture example for it to register. I understand now.

    This was very useful! Thank you for making this additional, very focused video. I'm using Notion to track my Korean studies, and based on what you've shown here, I'm going to experiment with linking grammar points discussed in specific class sessions to my general grammar point database, and specific class deadlines and meeting times to a general calendar database. You only showed linking two databases in this video, but from what you showed it looked like I should be able to link (for example), grammar points from three different classes to my grammar point database, or deadlines from all my different separate class databases to my overall calendar database. I'm looking forward to experimenting with what you taught me here, so thank you again!

    Very informative tutorials which has clarified 'Relations' and 'Rollups' for me. Couldn't understand it through Notion's Guidance, which doesn't want to use the Database terminology in its tutorials.
    However, when we start using /creating multiple databases, the concepts of keys, joins, views, and normalization come into play. In my opinion, these concepts should be explained. Otherwise, casual users will end up creating many inefficient databases.

    Relations didn't solve the purpose I thought they would though. I have a expense tracker db in which I create a view every month (filter of expenses in that month).
    I was wondering if it was possible to get the total expense for every month (sum of a column) in a central DB so I can see monthly expenses in a consolidated view.

    Hi! Thanks for the video, it was super helpful. Is it possible to search the info using the keywords from another database? for example, if I want to have a list of all the characters mentioned in the book but I don't want to clutter my first databse with this information. Just in case I remember the name of the character but happen to forget where they were mentioned

  • @thenextrobertfry
    @thenextrobertfry Год назад

    Why create another whole database just for the book's notes that you then have to connect, when you could just take notes on each book in its own page? I mean, I can see the necessity of having a separate notes database for other types of notes, but seems to me that a book's notes should be taken right on a book's page. I'm wondering if there's a good reason for it that I'm not thinkin about, or just a preference for having ALL notes in the same place. Forgive me if the answer is here and I missed it or in another video in the playlist. I love your videos and examples. Clear and concise and of all the Notion systems I've tooled around with, yours looks and feels like the best fit for me overall.

    It was semi-helpful. I'm trying to create a Dinner Party planner and I think I have the recipes and all thanks to this, but I want to create a guest list only using the Main person's name in the list with say Ja's family. Then I want to add his family. Do I need to add them all to a say "contacts" list and create a relation to the contacts? I'd like them to auto-fill If I put Jay & Family in the names list.
    Or should I just create tags? There are times I may just want say 3 of 5 selected from his family if it's an adult party. Or Say I invite certain families to say Easter dinner. I'd then add Jay & Family but need the total number of ppl attending. (not all will attend)
    I'd like to just select the guests via the tags in this case. But how do I get these to show auto?
    The same for recipes. I choose certain recipies for Easter meal, and want the main, sides, drinks and deserts to auto fill, with the recipies related to as well as the ingredients related to a shopping list or auto fill the shopping list.

However when I add a "Father" and a "Mother" relationship to the database, and start to populate it, Notion starts to show the children names automatically. Not only that. Inside this cars page there is another database which shows "types of cars" and it's price. Now in the "vehicle" database, i want to show the total price of all the cars from the " types of cars" database as a property.
    Please note: the next row in "vehicle" database would be truck which should show the total price of all the trucks from "the types of truck" database

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    Understanding relations and roll-ups in Notion is essential for leveraging its database capabilities efficiently.
    Relations connect rows within or across different databases, allowing for efficient data organization.
    Rollups aggregate information from related databases, enhancing data visibility and analysis.
    Demonstrating the setup process, including creating databases, defining properties, and establishing relations, clarifies the practical application of these concepts.
    Examples, such as connecting books to notes or recipes to ingredients, illustrate real-world scenarios for utilizing relations and roll-ups effectively.

    Hi & thanks again for your great tutorials. As you possibly remember, I’m pretty new to Notions but am finding it absolutely fascinating & have already put it to good use thanks to your amazing tutorials. Thank you. I have a question that I am finding hard to find a solution for but it may be that I am not thinking about it the right way. I have a main page which is essentially my Master Operations Page (runs all the tasks & topics for a certain project that I am managing). I also meet with the Director of the company once a week & we have an Ops Mtg. I set an agenda for each meeting based on the urgency of what needs to be achieved for that week or….. is rolled over from the previous week’s meeting. What I want to do is relate new tasks I create within that Mtg Agenda (as they occur during the meeting) to either an existing page within the Master Operations Page or a new page within the Master Ops Page so that they will pop up on the Master Ops page automatically rather than me scan the notes after the meeting & create a new page or add the notes to an existing page based on what was discussed in the meeting. If you can help, that would be really appreciated or even suggest a link that I revise. I have gone around in circles trying to find just the right thing so am giving in to asking for help. Thanks, C

      In this video I show how to create 2 different types of to-do lists.

      2.) where each page represents a project in one table and has tasks associated with it.

    Hi there, I just wanna say I love your videos. I just recently discovered notion and love it. I was wondering if I could get some help on how I want to relate two or possibly 3 databases indirectly. Basically I want to make a new project using a project template but I want to have a view of a notes database and have it show me all the notes that have the same Category and subcategory as the project. I was thinking about if I would need to make a 3rd database that is just category names with subcategories as a multiselect property. I don't want to have to go through all of my notes each time I make a new project to handpick each note I have to relate it to the project, I would like it it just pull the relevant notes based on category and subcategory. Maybe I would just need a different project template for each category and then add a filter to see the notes with the same sub category onces its created? If you would be willing to help me or point me in the right direction to learn how to do this I would be very appreciative, thanks

    • @ProductiveDude
      @ProductiveDude  2 года назад

      I'm not sure how to achieve this off the top of my head.
      Sounds quite complex. Is it really necessary to have categories AND subcategories for notes?
      Just curious why you might want to do this.

    • @mlnikon9434
      @mlnikon9434 2 года назад

      @@ProductiveDude thanks for getting back to me. I don't suppose I would need subcategories as well, I could maybe have an additional multiselect property for other tags for searchability. I'm thinking I would need to make a separate project template for each area and just use a filter for the notes with the matching area.
