After watching a half dozen or so other content creators who have reviewed the OBR tome I wanted to revisit this vid and say that yours is by far the best - Not to say the other guys haven't done a fantastic job, you've just done it better.
I am new to Age of Sigmar and this video absolutely sold me on the army. Cool abilities. Cool spells. Cool characters. Cool units. Not a lot of extraneous units. Concise army with some flexibility.and build paths. Rob's enthusiasm and insightfulness are very, very helpful. I have just built my vanguard box and slowly deciding on my first list. I have listened to this video 3 times now. It's a very helpful way to digest the loads of gameplay info.
I said it before and I’ll say it again, Rob is the HARDEST WORKING MAN in Warhammer! Live-streamed for 10 hours and then cut together two videos before sunrise, riding down the adrenaline. That is love for the game and especially the community!
Reading it over again this morning, I did not have remorse buying into a faction during the hype yesterday which is always good. In fact, I think I like the book even more giving it another pass after some sleep. So much so that I am looking into the feasability of getting a plumed helm and a plotting rod to fully commit to the bit as I marshal my rank and file. As ever, it was great going the distance on another long stream. Thank you for your service. Get some rest.
After a few days of listening to reviews, I love that the OBR have a way to get to back line support characters without having to hack through the front line. The rider and Stalkers being able to move over units gives you some good back line threat with the limited deep strike capabilities. There are so many ways to buff this army it's great. There are so many units with high armor now, being able to easily get -2/3, or higher, is great! What I like most about this army is that it requires thought to time and apply all of your overlapping buffs. It's not just point and click army.
Thanks so much for your efforts on getting this video out there! Know you pulled a late night! 😊 Regarding Katakros ability it’s actually a nerf from the old book. It used to be 36” range and you could still use it in combat! It’s always been great!
Yeaaaaaaa perfect just got off work bout to get my max on some good grub! Been waiting for this OBR treat! Thanks for all your hard work! Today was a rough day! I'm all ears lets gets get it!
You got a subcribe out of me boss! I'm geeked to throw down with this army I started playing about 4 months ago and this is my first AOS army and its been a challenge. Now at this point I'm happy they got a glow up cuz they where fun to use but very hard to pilot. So I'm ready for this update and throw down!
Just played a game. Used a Liege Kavalos to give a Morghast Archai +1 attack to their halberds, then gave them -1 rend because of the ossifector, then Bludgeon. It one shot a full health Varanguard unit. I looked at my opponent and ismple said "i am so sorry,"
The main problem with your reviews is that you make it so accessible and easy to understand which units to build an army around, that I want to start a brand new army each time I watch one of your videos. So I either need to stop watching until next year… or maybe dilute the thirst by watching all of your other videos. #newvideonewarmyamirite?
Finally OBR battletome, I feel like once in month I called for some changes in your comments section, now that we got them I'm uneasy about the points increase, Nagash got some interesting changes too, though I'm not sure if he is viable in a competitive 2k list being that expensive
i dont think so yet, at least in obr. 965 feels at least 100, maybe 200 points too expensive for what he does. While obr units are pretty good, none of their units are particularly points efficient - certainly not efficient enough to absorb a 200 point deficit in a 2000 point game. Arkhan + Katakros will do more for you than Nagash, while costing 150 points less. I do like this warsctoll much more than the previous one though. If the points cost does come down you will see him on tables.
I love the new command ability focus of OBR, it seems like there'll be a lot of interesting decisions to be made during the game. Sadly not in love with models other than the infantry, wish these really were Tomb Kings...
A fellow Imperial Fist enjoyer! I suspect there's viability in an infantry-heavy list with ranks of mortek supported by harvesters, and commanded by katakros. The mortek guard become a very flexible tool when considering the array of command abilities and the options to heal or return slain models before you even consider the conventional Rally.
@@NapGod Katakros looks so good, but I feel like I should get a faction in which I like most of the range. Soulblight Skeletons + Blood Knights also seem great.
They basically are tomb kings. Just an elite army crafted by nagash vs Egyptian skeletons. Both have similar aesthetics in terms of bone, constructs, and insignias.
Do you think they'll eventually get skeletons with bows or maybe big skeletons with bows? I'm thinking of getting into AoS, wanna figure out what their faction identity so to speak is. Thank you for the review
The army is deceptively powerful with the buffs you can give out, most of them reliable (most of it is empower nadarite weapon + endless duty, for the first you could cast with the command trait). Even spear kavalos can do just under fulminator damage with the full array of buffs, which is insane considering death wedge and 6" pile in.
Question Rob regarding the inmortis guard. Could you put them in a galetian body guard unit. Have them fight for strike at the opening then fight again in the combat phase and use their command ability to fight a third time?
re: mortek guard. they're probably a bit overpriced at 150, i think 130 would be the sweet spot, but they have the most attacks in the army per point/footprint so they absorb offensive buffs very well, and wound characteristic 1 means they absorb healing the best too. Eg imagine a reinforced unit with support from a soulmason, liege, and harvester. soulmason forces out the -1 to hit and save on target enemy unit, multicasts to get +1 wound on the morteks, maybe gets exploding 5s off. liege gives them +1 attack. small bases h spears they all seing. in the combat phase, they use bludgeon on themselves. 60 attacks, 50 hits (40 w/o exploding 5s), 33 wounds (26 w/o exploding 5s) at effective rend -3? if anything is left to fight back they have 4+, 6++, 4+++ (from the harvester). in crematorians each one killed in melee explodes for a mortal on 5+ /before/ the harvesters roll to bring them back. seems pretty solid to me obviousy you can't give them every buff in the book since you'll only have points for so many support units, but it only takes 2-3 buffs to make them real brawlers. Several obr support units either work in an aura (katakros, harvester) or can affect multiple separate units (mason, shaper w/ key), allowing you to double dip on buffs & heals off the same support units if running multiple mortek units. again, i do agree 150 for 10 is too much, esp with their lowish to-wound score, but you will see them on the table and they will wreck face.
Loved the Video. One question to anyone who ready this. Did i see it right that in the Battle trait that gives you more command Points it says it stacks so If you have 7or more Units you get 6more command Points? Or do you only get 3more?
I just read and watched about this new battletome, and I have a question about the new "Impenetrable Ranks" command. Did I understand correctly that you can use it multiple times, so that my unit has for example 2+ ward save?
no inspiring w/in 3" artefact looks bad to me, due to too short range. feels like enemy will be able to remove casualties such to escape the effect altogether more often than not.
I really like the Mortisan Soulreaper model, but feels really lackluster. Like it’s the last model GW made rules for or something and just said good enough. Should’ve at least given Soulreaper the insta kill ability from previous model. Haven’t been very excited about this faction in the past when I first started AoS, but Crematorians with exploding skeletons slowly moving towards the enemy and regenerating to explode again sounds like a lot of fun! Hope do get to put some theorycrafting list(s) together for this one!
Soulreaper actually sounds pretty good. Most units have 5 or more models, use flaming weapon and this guy is pounding for -2 rend 3 damage attacks with exploding 6s! In Ivory host you can have 3 hits per 6, or this guy is killy enough to wound a unit before your other units attack to give them the 3hit exploding instead. A killy melee hero and a full wizard for 120 points? Not bad. And that is before you start talking about command traits and/or artifacts. Being a Mortisan is also important and many chars like Arkhan are not.
At first I got bummed out that Stalliarch lords got changed but after listening I see it as a sleeper sub faction. Can definitely see it as two ways of play. We can go hyper aggressive with our Kavalos and debuff enemies and counter charge which lets us not fear getting charged first. The same unit cannot recente more than a command ability in the same phase, so if youmuse the Katakros one you can't combine it with the lieve Kavalos or other ones
Katakros gives himself the order. So he can't get a second one but a unit under the effect of his buff (being within 24") can get their own command from the Liege Kavalos. Or that's how I understand it

Arkhan pretty much covers your magic, and restores almost a Mortek Guard worth of units each turn. Katakros is AoE AoA and AoD and also restores a Mortek Guard worth. So that is like, 300 points a turn of wounds/models returned almost assuming you get wounds?

on the other hand, morteks are 150, kav 170, immortis 200, morghasts 240. And our artillery does like half the damage of the ogre cannon for the same cost, so we won't be forcing anyone to come to us which makes the army's slow movement more punishing. And we don't have any gnoblar equivalent for points efficient wounds & bodies to grab objectives or screen for our key units & combo pieces. the support heroes are well priced, but once you start making lists it's very easy to run out of points before you have a functional army for them to support.

on the other hand, morteks are 150, kav 170, immortis 200, morghasts 240. And our artillery does like half the damage of the ogre cannon for the same cost, so we won't be forcing anyone to come to us which makes the army's slow movement more punishing. And we don't have any gnoblar equivalent for points efficient wounds & bodies to grab objectives or screen for our key units & combo pieces.
the support heroes are well priced, but once you start making lists it's very easy to run out of points before you have a functional army for them to support.

subscribing on RUclips would be redundant innit?
