@@IAmKnightsDawn No need to sleep on floor. It is enough to have a flat bed (wood or smth) plus an ordinary 10 cm sponge mattress. Not to mention it may be cold on floor and for sure it is the most bigger dust density down there.
It's the coolest thing, right!? I had to sleep on a carpeted floor for a few weeks and I noticed immediately after a few nights all of my back and shoulder pain vanished!
Been sleeping on a shikibuton for about 1.5 years now, so comfortable I never wanna go back to a regular bed! Easy to fold up and put away, leaving my room spacious. If you're thinking about getting one, DO IT!!!
@@LeonWhites_Darkspace I don't wear shoes in my room, so that lessens the amount of dirt reaching the futon, when it's folded up I'll take a handheld vacuum and pick up whatever dirt I see, I also got my futon from futonbedsfromjapan.com and they sell a white cover that I'll throw in the wash (as often as someone with a normal bed would wash their sheets!) and that's probably what's doing the most to keep my futon clean. I'm just diligent about keeping dirt out of my room, and get a cover that you can take off and wash!

I really like how you don’t seem too keen on forcing your lifestyle on others and not thinking you’re above others for how you choose to live life. Keep up the good videos man !
I’ve also transitioned to sleeping on a very thin ikea mattress on the floor the past 3 months, inspired by a history of Japanese sleeping traditions I saw a year ago. Just fold it up when I wake up and put into my open door closet to air out. I have so much space in my room during the day and my sleep has improved A LOT. I love it.

I've been sleeping on one since the summer. It's amazing. Takes up less space, helps to correct my back posture, and I air it outside on my porch every 3/weeks. It's wonderful
For anybody that might feel discomfort in your lower back when just laying flat on your back: try a pillow under your knees and perhaps some padding under your ankles. This especially helps if you have a very clearly arched back. Another tip for anyone struggling with neck pain and laying flat on a firm surface doesn't work for you, try a flatter pillow and lift the ends over your shoulders so that your head is firmly in place and your neck is as naturally straight as it can be. You can only lay on your back though and it takes some getting used to, you can always go back to your regular sleeping position after but this does help in times of pain.
I slept on one of these for a year in college and it was without a doubt the best sleep I've ever had in my life. It's also the best my posture has ever been.
My cat actually loves it, too, when I sleep on the floor. Usually he doesn't like to sleep in the bed, when I'm sleeping there, too. During the day, he really enjoys hanging out in my bed. Last night was the first time, I tried sleeping on the floor. After a few seconds, he jumped into my lap and stayed there for a few hours. Later I caught him sleeping immediately next to me. I don't know, what his issue is with us sleeping together in our bed, but I guess I really should pursue floor sleeping...
@@Christina-fr7xb cats don’t like it if the mattress beneath them is moving as it wakes them up. When things are on the floor, less movement is happening, especially with a hard mattress.
I’ve been sleeping on the floor since I was 14 or 15, but now that I’m 27 and getting closer to 30 I’ve been looking into buying or building a bed just because I want the look of a bed but without the mattress. The whole breathability and slats issue held me back from buying something but your video has solved my issues, so thanks! I’ll probably still build my own frame but now I have the option to use slats with a tatami mat, which I find exciting.
@@CadePriorFilms You said you don't sleep with any blankets and totally nude. How do you do that even in Texas ? Our body temperature drops when we sleep. What is you ideal room temperature, or are you a person that acclimate to the changes of season ?
People still look at me like I’m crazy. Seth Godwin writes this book called “Purple Cow”. People think the purple cow is crazy, but that’s cause the purple cow is remarkable. You are a purple cow.
Take a look at some chiropractors in your area and get a stand up desk with a nice gel mat and I am sure you will start feeling better soon! Changing your bed won't help if you continue to hurt your back 8 hours a day. Take care, feel better soon :-)
some people say they get back pain from futons because they are so thin and close to the ground but my thesis is this because its harder that enforces a straight position of your back etc which is healthy but because your bones, back are not used to this /trained anymore it can hurt at first like a body part you didnt use for a long time, sure training it is painful at first but in the end things will be easier than before
Got one recently after noticing sleeping more on my harder couch than my bed. Immediately on my first day of sleeping on it I noticed two positive things: 1. I instantly fall asleep without having any restless leg syndrome, which had been plagueing me forever. 2. When i wake up I don’t have to stretch and “unwrench” my entire body to feel good. It’s just instantly smooth and flexible. Best investement of my life. Hands down.
My partner and I have our 5 inch memory foam mattress from our sleeper sofa on the floor (Bc the couch is broken) and we’ve been on it for 2 weeks. Best sleep of my life and I’m not nearly as stiff as I used to be when I woke up. You have peaked my interest.
The only problem I have with the thought of sleeping on the floor is that I use the space under the bed for storage. This tatami bed is a perfect solution!
I’ve been sleeping on the floor since I was 12. I’m 23 now and I don’t regret it. All I use is a either a sheet or blanket and one pillow. I recommend a hard wood floor if you’re brave enough. I think it’s funny how I still have a queen size bed in my room but never use it.
I own a Japanese Futon; I purchased it in Japan, and it came with Futon covers. I recommend you searching for the covers, and acquiring them. They do sleep really good.
I'm so glad you pointed out the shitty materials, specifically American, beds are bad out of. Yea they might be comfortable but loose what is in the mattress? A bunch of chemicals, especially foam mattresses that can make us sick over time. Foam pillows too. Profit over everything though.
I've slept in a Japanese futon on a tatami mat since 2015. Recently I've put those away and have been sleeping on only a yoga mat with a blanket over it ( blanket only so my skin doesn't touch the yoga mat foam ). This new arrangement is now even better for me than the futon and tatami mat. I think the body adapts to prefer firmer and firmer arrangements.
I have been sleeping in a hammock, for about 2 years because a traditional bed destroys my back. However the frame takes up way more room than the twin XL it replaced. Might have to try this out, because I would love to have more floor space.
Wow sleeping on the floor is a real benetit. Since 5 years I sleep on an Arex 1 m x 2m+1,5 cm yogamat with a 2 cm conforter on top of the yogamat. It is completely washable and I roll it and put it aside. No back pain, no mold, no allergy symptoms, Use yogamat for yoga exercices on a daily basis do have a lot more space in my room :-)
@Davit M I usually sleep for six hours. I wake once or twice to record some dreams, then fall asleep again easily. I stopped setting an alarm to wake me the same year I started sleeping on the floor.
wearing minimalist shoes really opened my eyes to the way companies completely disregard our health to sell a product. when i went to replace my old mattress i thought, why is buying a mattress so complicated? why do i supposedly need 6 different layers of foam to wake up without back pain? if a mattress is so essential, how did our ancestors survive without it? you'd think we as a species would have mastered the art of sleeping by now but there's absolutely no consensus on which mattress is the best! the truth is, our bodies evolved and adapted to sleep on the ground. there's no need to over complicate things. a tatami mat creates a level, breathable surface to prevent mold, and a shikibuton creates a surface that cushions your body enough to be comfortable but not so much that it distorts your spine. that's the ideal setup for me. i'd also recommend a buckwheat hull pillow to help keep your neck straight and a body pillow to hug for side sleepers. very comfy :3
Was shopping for a bed today. Just got a new apartment and have been sleeping on the floor, wasnt the most pleasant experience but i was going to buy my first ever bed. Planning to get one from bed bath beyond or some other company. Spent like 5 minutes googling cheap and quality beds. Was going to just leave and shop around in the store but then I decided to go on RUclips and search about beds. Found the channel and vids talking about shiki futons now I'm definitely gonna get one of those instead. Well played. I like the Japanese culture and other Japanese shit and I'm well aware that many companies couldn't care less about your health and safety. So very happy to learn about this.
Very weird that I watched the original video this morning; subscribed (with no expectation of seeing him post ever again), and now he’s doing an update 💀💀
Just returned my new $1400.00 Sealey 18 inch, way to soft (advertised "Firm") foam-like mattress that is Hot next to the skin! Yuck! I wake up every morning with back pain! I am now awaiting the delivery of a queen Tatami mat with a organic cotton Shiki futon. I now have faith that I chose wisely after hearing your 1 year update on the switch to Tatami/Shiki bedding. Thanks!
I'll have to look into a shikibuton. I used to be an insomniac, it would take 2-4 hours to fall asleep each night--then I discovered floor sleeping and literally threw a comforter on the floor with blankets and laid down, and fell asleep in less than 20 minutes. I was sold with that. I am no longer an insomniac and have since sold my bed. I swear by the benefits of sleeping on the floor.
I love your videos, 💛 bought a futon one month ago thanks to your videos and great explanations :) I had lots of back pain before and I can already see the difference after 1 month on sleeping on the floor 😳 it s amazing, almost no more back pain. I also switched to barefoot shoes and I’m wearing a shungite almost everyday 🤣 Thank you, feeling much better 😊🙏🎉
Great video. I myself went with a futon on that great wonderful, solid, hard floor and well my body loved it/of course after a few weeks or months of getting yousto it. I always had lower back pain and was able to get rid of that when changing over to firm/still surfaces. That being said; I now have a sleep number bed only because of years of complaining from my significant other, even though she doesn't live with me, but the sleep number is high quality and comphey. When the # is cranked all the way up its decently hard and acceptable. Now there is a great midway compromise. Gota say i'm a little jealous of seeing you sleep on the floor/ah the memories.... Thanks again , very informative -Cheers
Very informative, me and my boyfriend have been talking about getting rid of chairs in our house for better spinal alignment. This mattress might be something to look into as well!
I sleep on a 5 inch shikibuton since around a year now, think I was even inspired to do it by you're video. And I'm pretty content with it. But I'm actually going to buy a 3 inch one because I think it'll even be more healthy and regenerating. I definitely love to sleep on these thin and harder (not actually hard or inconvenient) futons. Normal mattresses became completely uncomfortable for me. It's like going from drinking coke every day to water and when going back to it you don't like the taste anymore bc it's completely over sugared and you feel the downside immediately. So my conclusion: I'd definitely recommend getting a Japanese futon and if I could decided again I'd take the 3 inches futon in the first place.
i had a futon bed years ago, but it was up on a slatted futon frame. I can honestly say it saved my back. I'm thinking about going back to the same style of bed again...
Military career messed up my back a lil bit and lying on the floor feels great. I can feel my back pop just like cracking your knuckles. So I'm gonna get one of these for sure
Want to get rid of my bed for space reasons. I live with my family and I work as an artist, my studio is my bedroom and I also have pet rats. I just think being able to deconstruct and put my bed away for the day would be such a game changer. Imagine having all that extra space!!!!?
My partner and I started sleeping on this mat (we are used to very firm beds) however, after buying this futon mattress in a 5inch we noticed the cotton tends to become really compact and sinks in quite a bit where your body is heaviest such as the torso and upper legs/bum so it creates an a fairly deep indent and is all fluffy around you. And the ground begins to feel too hard. Unfortunately I have to somehow resell this Japanese mattress :’( really thought it would work for us since we’re used to more minimal sleeping. We’ve flipped it, switched sides, rolled it up everyday, even beating it but it still compacts way too much and doesn’t feel like there is much separating us from the ground…. My small inflatable camp mattress is firmer but has that but just enough support to fall asleep
this is one of the reasons i opted for a latex mattress topper instead of a traditional cotton shikibuton. I was worried about the cotton compacting and since i live in an apartment, i dont currently have somewhere to air it out (which they say helps to refluff the cotton ones)
I sleep on a Thai massage mattress, for 2.5yrs. Took some adjusting but now I can't go back. You feel your body more with floor sleeping and there's no compensation so you are doing less damage long term. Worth trying at least 👌🏾
I’ve been on all cotton mattresses (the western futon style, no foam anywhere) for 32 years. It’s heavy, can’t be hung easily. Aside from the effort of airing and need to be beaten like a rug, it’s perfect. I do have a platform, probably by habit. It’s a flimsy wood frame reinforced with plywood.
I've been on a Shikibuton for the past 6 months and I've loved it. I do hate how the Shikibuton can get lumpy where parts of it are saggy then others, but overall it's done wonders for my back.
works in temperate climates, but in tropical countries this is highly unreccomended. a mattress actually needs to breathe so they tend to become a huge fungus sponge when it is just laid on the floor. even in traditional Japanese homes, the futons are actually kept after every use, and is put in the sun and air to refresh.
Sleeping on a harder surface is much better for your body, I speak from experience. My grandmas and grandpas never had back pain, joints pain, etc. They all slept on floors or bare wooden divans. I grew up sleeping on soft bouncy mattress, and always had back pain, which gets especially painful when I’m on period. My body would ache all over. I switched to sleeping on the floor since moving out, and the pain, it’s all gone. It’s almost magic like.
I have just ordered a similar futon online. I won't get it until next week but I am hoping that it will be as comfortable as everyone says. I have spent the last 16 months sleeping on a leather couch and four different air matresses. I think it's safe to say that no air bed is designed to last very long. They all leak no matter what you pay for them. I don't have room for any kind of framed bed so hopefully this does the trick. I never considered mold until now. I have a concrete floor with carpet. I guess I will lay it over the couch during the day to let the air circulate.
My phone is listening to my thoughts now. I’m van life shopping and was like what’s futon called that I saw in that video long time ago. It would be perfect. Your year review popped right up!
Very informative update review with an honest objective view. Nice to see a follow up for something as long term investment as a bed. Thank you for this video

You’re so kind Jasmine’s! Happy with any engagement I get, even if it’s small. Hope the parents like the video and decide on the futon. Have a good day 😍
Oh man, when I was in Japan I LOVED the insanely hard beds. I mean, we were in a dorm most of the trip because my friend was in college there and brought me over, and the college's bed was VERY hard. Then when we went to Osaka, we stayed in a really nice fancy hotel (at least I thought it was really fancy, but it wasn't *that* expensive, like $150 a night? Pretty high for me, but for how good the view was, very cheap lol) and I was thinking that SURELY this nice hotel will have a little bit of a softer bed, so we both flopped backwards onto it before feeling it and we hit that thing like concrete lol. No bounce, no give, just like a slightly-cushioned rock. But I still really liked it, for whatever reason. But it also made my back pain worse to be honest, but I have a particular back problem that might be different from a lot of other people, who knows. I can't seem to find any mattress so far that makes it better, only some that don't make it worse and some that make it WAY worse. I'd say the Japanese futon beds were somewhere in between. Made it a little bit worse, but not enough that I didn't like sleeping on it.
I started sleeping on the floor because all bed frames were hurting my back. I have a memory foam mattress. My only issues is getting up. If you joint pain or issues sleeping on the floor isnt ideal.
Came across your vid as I was searching for shiki bedding, also called "yoh" in Korean, to relieve my back pain. I grew up sleeping on these until age 7 when I moved to the US. I've read some research about how modern style/western beds cause back pain, not relieve it, and how indigenous peoples who sleep on the floor have no back pain. Thanks for also reminding the audience how toxic the manufacturing process of these western mattresses are! They're so bad for the environment!
I really want to get rid of my bed that I’ve had for 9 years and get a latex futon, and I was one of those people who were worried about roaches carrying on me while I sleep. I looked up that if you spray peppermint or eucalyptus essential oil with water around your bed before you sleep, or anywhere you see roaches, that that’s a way to naturally get rid of them. (I live in San Antonio). I also didn’t want to get a platform so I can just put the futon aside during the day. I was originally going to get a hammock but a futon sounds more cozy.
@@ladybird491 helpful advice 😒😒 I think this person may help others who are thinking of this and in general scared of bugs, spider, centipedes and so forth. You on the other hand wasted your time.
I used to sleep on a soft mattress for years and it really messed up my lower back. I've recently started sleeping on the floor and my back feels so much better
My brother been using japanese futon mattress for the past year. He got it since he had trouble sleeping on his mattress and had been sleeping on the floor. So got it for him and he enjoyed it, he does have some restless nights now and again and he sleeps on couch but he very much happy with his new bed.
@@oneheart19 I love it. I go to sleep with my usual back pain and wake up mostly pain free. I don't toss and turn anymore either. Just sleep. A big difference from mattresses. I don't think I could go back to a "Western" bed setup!
@@amycoronado4920 Thank you so much for responding back. I appreciate it! I'm glad to hear you are having success with this new way of sleeping. I feel encouraged to try it too. Thanks!
Love your videos, just a question, would you recommend a futon over sleeping straight on the floor? I’m currently trying out just sleeping on a tatami, but thinking about buying a futon as well… I’m wondering if the health benefits are better for just the floor or that a futon is also “healthy” enough?
What to consider of getting something as hard as a futon: if you have an arched back because your butt is bigger than average (fat or muscle wise) you might have more lower back pain as you will actually never touch the floor with your lower back, so it will be pulled down by gravity the whole night. This happens to me when I go camping or sleep on a very hard mattress and the only thing that helps is maybe a pillow stuffed between the arch or higher foot elevation, the latter of which is not super recommended… more lower back muscles might counter this effect.
Japanese and Taiwanese people treat the floor as a clean place, not as one where you leave all your dirt. We keep our floors as clean as possible, using indoor and outdoor slippers. And then we use the floor for living space, even way close to the ground. It helps us stay healthy.
Same for us Koreans. Plus it's a great way of making use of the small space you have. Folding the table you ate at and moving it to the side to lay out mats to sleep in the same space.
bought a shikibuton from j-life after my car accident over a year ago. I started to sleep on a hard surface and my sleep improved but I didn't like that my ribs dug into the hard floor. After that I bought my shikibuton and it's been amazing. I got the 5 inch and think it was a little too thick. after a year it's starting to settle a bit in the middle, but I haven't aired it out or beaten it as much as I should. I slept on a western bed after i started sleeping on my shikibuton and it just felt weird, and I couldn't get to sleep. I'm only sleeping on a shikibuton from now on.
Well I got a futon matress since two weeks, and before that two weeks on the floor with minimal padding. I can't say I wake up refreshed and invigorated on the futon at all. I really enjoy the firmness but don't feel rested and fit. Im going to give it some more time, maybe my body needs to adjust. Reason for transitoning to a firmer surface for me was the idea of applying different loads to the body (katy bowman), in that way, exercising while you sleep, and making the body relax deeper than on a floating, soft matress. It's true I do feel deeply relaxed, so much so I dont want to get up.And stay drowsy at least the first hour after waking up. I have always been a sound sleeper and no back problems and easy to get out of bed. I think I even preferred the floor to the futon..but I want to sleep next to my husband ,so thats why I got a futon matress as well. Does anyone recognize this? Not feeling rested, feeling drowsy etc? Does it go away?
I'm thinking of going with a futon as well. I recently stopped sleeping on a mattress and tried sleeping in a hammock and I love it, but the stand just takes up too much space and I'm concerned with mounting it to wall studs. Will try this out. Thanks for the information!
I sleep on just the tatami mat itself, it's been 9 months. I remember watching your first video about this subject when I first was making the decision on what to sleep on after getting rid of my bed. I'm super happy with the extra space and physical mobility in my bedroom now, even just the look and layout of the space without a huge bed constantly consuming a large portion of the area.
@@wonderwoman7969 Hey! it's going well, I'm at the point where I'm so used to it that I don't think much of it. It also lost its charm to me of being some cool Japanese thing lol. Thanks for your update, did you fibd your sleep improve on the tatami mats compared to your mattress bed set up and do you feel any body aches when you get up? How often do you air the tatami mats? Are you well rested when you get up? Thank you :)
@@wonderwoman7969 my mat basically gets aired out for the hours it's not in use every single day. I have a thin folding one, and I take the sheets off and prop up the mat against a wall everday when getting up; similar to a routine of how people make their beds when they get up. I just had a good sleep lol. I think I remeber occasionally experiencing some aches when getting up sometimes in the past? But I've had that with a regular mattress too. Initially I thought me sleeps improved, but now I'm so used to it, it's hard to compare the difference. I definitley love it though. Any sleep issues I've had have only been mental ones. I should mention before I decided to commit to this, I tested to see if I can fully sleep on the carpeted floor with sheets for days. I was able to, so I decided to get the mat and ditch the bed
the raised bed keeps you from the increased range of movement that you get when you get get all the way down onto the floor, same with sitting on the floor instead of chairs!!
i sleep on the floor. i put a duvet/blanket on the floor and sleep on it. it has been mostly good for my back, but my body feels achy. i workout a lot and naturally my body always hurts/feels achy from training. hoping a futon will help address my muscular tension (though it may very well be that the mattress won't do that much)
Great! I'm thinking about it, I have a huge afraid of bugs though, I live in a tropical country, there are a lot ants here on the ground not matter how much I clean the floor
Insects don’t like peppermint oil or lavender oil. When you clean the floor, mix in peppermint oil. Also you can make a peppermint oil “force field” around your mat on the floor. That’s what I’ve done over the years.
If i were to purchase the Shikibuton with the Titami mats, would i be able to use other bed frames outside of the titami beds for a comfortable sleep? just looking for a cheaper option when it comes to wanting the futon raised
I place my brother's old futon on the floor and used to as a bed for like 2 yrs... I loved it. I would roll it up sometimes and have so much room. My mom then gifted me a canopy bed. I've always thought they were pretty. But I loved sleeping on the floor with the futon better 🤣
I have slept on a futon over 30 years but not this one. I got mine because at the time it was what I could afford. It had the base that you could bend it up to make itt like a couch. That broke some time ago so I have been sleeping with it on the ground. I like the one you show though as that might be softer and easier for me to sleep on my side but might not. I am looking to replace my futon after 30 years so might look into this instead.
🙌🏻 I sleep on the floor - just an old quilt as padding. I absolutely love it! (The bf thinks it’s cute - says it helps his back). And I have zero problems with bugs, etc. Sometimes I’ll use my sheepskin as extra padding/grounding (I have one for kundalini yoga). I might upgrade to a shikibuton one of these days…

Great advice, thank you. I was doing the pillow thing kinda by instinct...i noticed it did help my neck and also relaxed my shoulders
thank you !
I slept on one of these for a year in college and it was without a doubt the best sleep I've ever had in my life. It's also the best my posture has ever been.
Do you sleep on your back or on your side? I'm thinking about getting a 3-4 inch one but I sleep on my side and I'm unsure if it would work well
Im here because I moved my bed to floor level for puppies 🙂 to not have to jump on/off a tall bed.
Awww that's sweet
I would love to see it! Send me some pics when you finish the project.
Why haven’t you been sleeping on a bad?

Have a 4 inch one after I watched your video, in college right now, people look at me weird and I love it.
People still look at me like I’m crazy. Seth Godwin writes this book called “Purple Cow”. People think the purple cow is crazy, but that’s cause the purple cow is remarkable. You are a purple cow.
just tell them you have back problems, they’ll understand
Working from home destroyed my lower back and now I'm here :)
Time to fix it.
Take a look at some chiropractors in your area and get a stand up desk with a nice gel mat and I am sure you will start feeling better soon! Changing your bed won't help if you continue to hurt your back 8 hours a day. Take care, feel better soon :-)
some people say they get back pain from futons because they are so thin and close to the ground but my thesis is this
because its harder that enforces a straight position of your back etc which is healthy
but because your bones, back are not used to this /trained anymore it can hurt at first
like a body part you didnt use for a long time, sure training it is painful at first but in the end things will be easier than before
Got one recently after noticing sleeping more on my harder couch than my bed.
Immediately on my first day of sleeping on it I noticed two positive things:
1. I instantly fall asleep without having any restless leg syndrome, which had been plagueing me forever.
2. When i wake up I don’t have to stretch and “unwrench” my entire body to feel good. It’s just instantly smooth and flexible.
Best investement of my life. Hands down.
Magnesium supplements for restless leg. It doesn’t reduce it, it cures it! Haven’t had it in years. Magnesium isn’t just a muscle relaxant.
My partner and I have our 5 inch memory foam mattress from our sleeper sofa on the floor (Bc the couch is broken) and we’ve been on it for 2 weeks. Best sleep of my life and I’m not nearly as stiff as I used to be when I woke up. You have peaked my interest.
Tried sleeping on the floor with just my thin top mattress and honestly, it blows my mind how much of a difference I feel in my back already
The only problem I have with the thought of sleeping on the floor is that I use the space under the bed for storage. This tatami bed is a perfect solution!
That's a really good call. In traditional Japanese homes, they roll the shikibuton up and put it in a closet out of the way during the day.
It's expensive as fuck though.

I’ve been sleeping on the floor since I was 12. I’m 23 now and I don’t regret it. All I use is a either a sheet or blanket and one pillow. I recommend a hard wood floor if you’re brave enough. I think it’s funny how I still have a queen size bed in my room but never use it.
you gotta have a bed if you bring the ladies over. They won't sleep on the floor lmao
I have a friend who is a big guy, and he just told me that he used to sleep on some cardboard on the floor and it was the best sleep he ever got.
I own a Japanese Futon; I purchased it in Japan, and it came with Futon covers. I recommend you searching for the covers, and acquiring them. They do sleep really good.
your editing is amazing holy moly you've grown so much since I first subbed!! Simply amazing!!
Thank you 😍 I’m constantly learning new things. Thanks for your support Micca!
I'm so glad you pointed out the shitty materials, specifically American, beds are bad out of. Yea they might be comfortable but loose what is in the mattress? A bunch of chemicals, especially foam mattresses that can make us sick over time. Foam pillows too. Profit over everything though.
Lol
I got an ad for a mattress half way through this video - oh the irony
Same here
I've slept in a Japanese futon on a tatami mat since 2015.
I've been sleeping on the floor for thirty-three years. I believe it's the secret to functional fitness.
What are the odds!!! Thanks for watching this one as well 😍
I love your philosophy regarding consumerism and consumables. 👍
Try taping your mouth when sleeping

I also switched to barefoot shoes and I’m wearing a shungite almost everyday 🤣

I’ve slept on a futon for four years. Not back problems again! P. S. I slept on a camping mat for a year , before I got the futon!
Thats awesome! Love hearing how others have also had positive experiences.
Did you go back to a mattress or a shikibuton?
Still on the same futon, six years now, I’ll never go back!
You should!
Shikibuton’s are just perfect... perfect
Amen josh, amen!
Military career messed up my back a lil bit and lying on the floor feels great. I can feel my back pop just like cracking your knuckles. So I'm gonna get one of these for sure
I purchased one and it is AWESOME! My sleep is restful, my back pains- Non exsistant! Super comfortable! Totaly worth it!
Do you sleep on your side, if yes, does it still work well for you and support your back and shoulder? I'm thinking about buying one
I've been sleeping on the floor/tatami since a child. Slept on a western bed for a week, hated it. lol
Hey! Glad to see you back , love the content.
Glad to be back. Thanks for your support!

Thank you, RUclips algorithms! Cade, great content and really great videography and editing, I just became a new subscriber!! 🍃
I started sleeping on the floor because all bed frames were hurting my back. I have a memory foam mattress. My only issues is getting up. If you joint pain or issues sleeping on the floor isnt ideal.
Thanks RUclips for showing me this right after I bought a bed.
Don't live in a place with roaches. 😊

Love your videos, just a question, would you recommend a futon over sleeping straight on the floor? I’m currently trying out just sleeping on a tatami, but thinking about buying a futon as well… I’m wondering if the health benefits are better for just the floor or that a futon is also “healthy” enough?
Thanks for the insight. I've been thinking about this for awhile and am working to make the switch to floor sleeping right now.

Welcome to this exclusive, well earned club!
I've just started sleeping on the carpet. It has a pad under it, so I throw a blanket down and it worked great.
Japanese and Taiwanese people treat the floor as a clean place, not as one where you leave all your dirt.
We keep our floors as clean as possible, using indoor and outdoor slippers. And then we use the floor for living space, even way close to the ground. It helps us stay healthy.
We even eat close to the ground... correcting typo
Thanks for this. I’ve been sleeping in a Mayan hammock for a year and love it but I’ve been curious about other affordable traditional sleep options.
Idk If people realize this but bugs can climb surface lol a platform bed won’t stop them from just crawling up into it
I'm thinking of going with a futon as well. I recently stopped sleeping on a mattress and tried sleeping in a hammock and I love it, but the stand just takes up too much space and I'm concerned with mounting it to wall studs.
Will try this out. Thanks for the information!
Great video! I’m convinced! Also I think it’s funny that the two ads I got during the video were those ridiculous mattresses ones you talked about lol
Hows the tatami mat sleeping going? I was thinking if investing in tatami mats
@@wonderwoman7969 Hey! it's going well, I'm at the point where I'm so used to it that I don't think much of it. It also lost its charm to me of being some cool Japanese thing lol.
I am on a slightly soft carpeted floor so this may be why I'm able to use the mat on its own with out the added mattress part.
I was able to, so I decided to get the mat and ditch the bed
the raised bed keeps you from the increased range of movement that you get when you get get all the way down onto the floor, same with sitting on the floor instead of chairs!!

it has been mostly good for my back, but my body feels achy. i workout a lot and naturally my body always hurts/feels achy from training.
hoping a futon will help address my muscular tension (though it may very well be that the mattress won't do that much)
Yeah I don't think the floor sleeping has much to do with the DOMS your experiencing. Maybe take more rest days from exercise?
I got a DHP futon with the springs and been on the floor for a year also 🤪. Am 52 and no problems yet, lease God don't let me have any.
I have slept on a shikibuton for over a decade. I had a twin size for most of that time but this year I finally upgraded to a queen.
Hi! Which one exactly did you get in Queen? Do you use covers? I definitely want to try it out.
I have a queen size futon that can be laid directly on top of the carpet, and it is the best that has ever happened to my back.
What kind?

I sleep on the floor - just an old quilt as padding.
Do you still prefer the tatami platform frame over the mat on the floor?
