Okay, SO the dark Taylor portrays Taylor like media is making her (liar, "witch", rude, player, evel etc.)The other Taylor in the glass box is the REAL Taylor. She's trying to get out, show herself but the dark Taylor doesn't let her. At the end the white Taylor realizes the only way she can get out is with her voice so she starts singing and breaks the glass and destroys the "dark, media Taylor". That's like the main plot. But there's so much Easter eggs and clues. Also at the ending scenes you can see a single tear on Taylor's cheek.
I agree I also think the more naked looking Taylor is a parallel to the famous video but also symbolizes her innocence (so content without armor) Kanye publicly took that from her, then she starts changing. Showing her becoming more closed off. The parallel to her innocence is also ironic because prior to this she wrote the song innocent about him.
the dark taylor is supposed to be the taylor that the media portrays her as, and the one in the box is the real taylor. the dark taylor (the media) keeps holding her back so that the public can't see the real taylor, because the media wants the public to believe that taylor truly is the lying, rude, crazy, selfish, snake that they paint her out to be, but the real taylor eventually is able to escape that narrative written for her with her voice (when she breaks the glass while hitting the high note). That note breaking her free represents how her music (specifically reputation), is her only way of releasing her truth and who she really is, and she uses it to finally escape. and then we see that the dark taylor was actually the robot the whole time, not the boxed taylor, symbolizing that the taylor created by the media is obviously the fake one, and that the taylor in the box is the real her, and that's why you can see a tear of happiness at the very end, to show that she was the real one the whole time and is human, and that she's finally free.
also if you look carefully, when dark T touches with her finger the invisible wall, it makes a tiny amount of lights that represent her power, but when real T touches it and actually realizes her power she literally makes everything -including her dark self -explode. I think her narrative there it's so amazing, because hell yeah everybody at this point has realized the amount of actual power she has. I love her, Rep era is my absolute favorite.
Joseph Khan when making the video said it’s gonna be heavily sci-fi based. These are a few nods to movies I have noticed but I know there are many, many more that I haven’t picked up on. Cloaked Taylor is a nod to Star Wars’ Kylo Ren, ‘naked’ Taylor is Ghost in the Shell, the hallway at the beginning of the video is based on dynasty the video game or TRON, from what I hear; Lightning Taylor is X-Men (Storm), the glass shattering is a nod to Insurgent, the blue glowing ball is a nod to one of the Harry Potter books. Let me know what I haven’t picked up on. 😁😁 I also really love this video and song. For me it’s the same level as Style and Out of the Woods. Love it 😍

I just got my mind blown 🤯 when first saw this video when it got out I got that’s she was trying to tell us that the Taylor that the media created was always be surpassed by the Taylor that was still there, the “pure” white Taylor, but now with lover and miss Americans I unlocked another other level. The dark Taylor is the the one that the media created, the cage is the fact that she stayed hidden from everyone, the naked Taylor represents when she was at her lowest, vulnerable, but then with all the stuff that went down she turned dark, put out an armour, and made reputation, making her “pure” again, because she got to tell her part of the story, in her way, but now she had built an armour, and then she gathering the power to release reputation, media try to take her down again, but she kept on going, and when she released reputation, she killed the dark Taylor and then smiles while the witches are being burned cause she walked through hell and rose up on the dead stronger, and if they wanna burned her by that, she knows her truth and doesn’t care anymore. I’m amazed 😍🤯

I actually think the whole dark Taylor vs light Taylor was a foreshadowing to her Grammy's that year- she knew she was breaking the mold of what she was suppose to be and yet she shattered the glass anyways and so like even though there was the push back from the media, at the time it was her most acclaimed album and really expanded her audience past people who just thought she was a basic pop star. I use to listen to Taylor growing up but Reputation was the first album I listened to in full and it holds such a special place in my heart
It’s funny how you say it’s like Fearless Taylor was inside the box because at one point, she’s on a WHITE HORSE inside the box. It’s like Fearless Taylor was killing Reputation Taylor. Every time I watch this video, I find more theories of what the video means, definitely one of my top fave videos of Taylor.

The coolest thing is one of the first clues we got to the truth behind this video was when a girl pointed out that the only word the jailed Taylor songs is “Jailor” as she sneers it at dark Taylor. I guess some fan wrote out theories and taylor liked the posts confirming the theory that the dark Taylor was a jailor holding her back or keeping her prisoner. I actually think the whole dark Taylor vs light Taylor was a foreshadowing to her Grammy's that year- she knew she was breaking the mold of what she was suppose to be and yet she shattered the glass anyways and so like even though there was the push back from the media, at the time it was her most acclaimed album and really expanded her audience past people who just thought she was a basic pop star. I use to listen to Taylor growing up but Reputation was the first album I listened to in full and it holds such a special place in my heart

It’s funny how you say it’s like Fearless Taylor was inside the box because at one point, she’s on a WHITE HORSE inside the box. It’s like Fearless Taylor was killing Reputation Taylor. Every time I watch this video, I find more theories of what the video means, definitely one of my top fave videos of Taylor.
Sooooo... while she's in the box, she also plays out certain MVs. I think it shows a timeline of events up til that point of her finally breaking free.
I.E. The armor? Bad Blood. White Horse? Blank Space. Light Orbs? Out of the Woods pose from the tree lifting her. Lightning? This Is What You Came For.
