There has been some great Asian/Indian influenced stuff from the last 30 or 40 years that I've really liked. I hadn't heard this one before.

This is from an album called "Third Eye" and every track is a blend of Eastern and Western styles, and just as good as this.
They do a great version of the Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows" on it which is well worth a listen and reaction.

George Harrison paved the way for this introducing Indian music to the record buying public. This sounds like it could have come from Sgt Pepper.

Sheila's career wasn't to be in pop music, she was only a teenager here. She is one of Britain's special musicians that musicians adore.

From the summer of ‘82 - I was thinking about this just the other day. The singer was also a child actress, appearing in BBC children’s TV series Grange Hill.
From what I have read, in recent years she has sadly developed a medical condition whereby she can no longer speak.

Sheila Chandra is her name; this track certainly sounds ahead of it’s time for 1982!

That's my all time favourite since long, listen to 1 more beautiful song from Monsoon and give your comments, "Sunset Over Ganges" (Ganges is the name of a river). I'm sure that if you liked Ever So Lonely, you'll like that one too.

I remember her/their other single called ''Shakti (The Meaning Of Within)''. The video for 'Shakti' seemed to get a lot of play on ''Rock Around The World'' (hosted by Basia Bonkowski) in the early 80's. But I also saw the video on 'Sounds' and a show called 'Countdown Flipside' (Countdown's way of trying to destroy the Countdown kids organisation). I just remember thinking she was really pretty, and was amazed that she was my age at the time. I thought she was in her early 20's, but she was actually 14...
Anyway, I do know this song, but it wasn't as impactful on me as 'Shakti'...

I'd totally forgotten about this song, then heard it for the first time in ages on the radio today and realised how good it sounds.
If you like this, have you heard 'Living on the Ceiling' by Blancmange? Its from the same era and has similar instruments.

For a few years at this time, the early 80's, there was a vogue in the UK of pop made or inspired by Indian musicians, immigrants or the children of immigrants. This song is my favourite of this category. The funny thing is that it was actually called "Indipop". So for a few years that meant pop music by people of Indian descent or inspired by such music. But not many years later, that vogue had faded out and we got "indie" instead, short for "independent". "Indiepop" is a very established word today, but if you said it 40 years ago, people would have assumed you were talking about "Indipop". :)

Hi. You are a beautiful couple with a high and very refined music sense. I just wanted to refer 2 more musical masterpieces for your precious and valuable comments and your listening pleasure. These are instrumentals and not songs, not very long but duly deserve you expert comments. Kindly whenever convenient, do have a listen to:-
1)"Eastern Journey" by Biddu orchestra. It has wonderful synchronisation of tabla rolls and acoustic drum.
    2) "Jumping Jack Flash" version by ANANDA SHANKAR and NOT the one by rolling stones. Mesmerising sitar and funk music. I'll wait for your video for your valuable remarks and comments on these. Subscribed. Thanks a lot.
