This is a great drill. I suddenly found myself standing up in my golf swing this week, and I couldn’t figure out how to fix it. So this seems to help. Thank you!!
Excellent drills. I could see using the split hand drill as part of my pre-shot routine. I think using non-contact drills as part of your pre-shot routine like a practice swing is such a valuable reinforcement.
Hey Adam! For sure....thats common It's the longest club in the bag.....and the one we all swing the fastest/hardest. We want to hit it the farthest....so natural for our body to use "extension" to produce speed..... the key is......to make sure you add enough ROTATION.....and....right side bend.....to even it out. So more turn and right shoulder down should help
Love the video Eric. I do have a question on the down swing. I find that when I rotate my shoulders, I come over the ball and cast a little. This makes all my shots go right. Any advice? Thanks
Hey Philip! Thanks! So the rotation of the shoulders has an AMOUNT and TIMING that matters. They open.....but not too much.....nor too soon. A good checkpoint is at left arm parallel in the downswing the shoulders should still be about 45* closed. Film yourself and check that If you're coming over the top you likely need to feel like the shoulders stay more CLOSED......EARLY....for the first 1/2 of the downswing and keep the arms/club in. The cast is likely a FIX to try and offset the steep shaft.....
The additional beauty of the split hands is that it also helps you feel your lead hip opening (which is also a common bug-a-boo). But, it seems “iron focused”. Downward strike. Is there something as effective for a driver swing where the club path is a bit UP at contact and not down. Or, should we just trust the method translates to forward ball positions?
Great points! For driver main adjustment I would make is the head staying more back as you turn and side bend. A lot of that is from setup....ball more forward and more tilt.... So you want a bunch of extension with driver (ball on tee) but still need to make sure you add in enough rotation and side bent to even it out

You got it Jonathan! Thanks for watching!!

Agreed! Thank you!!
Great video as always Eric….i have found starting from the impact position, short backswing and coming back to impact drill to be helpful as well…..
Thank you! For sure....love that as well!
For some reason I only struggle with this using driver... curious if you have any ideas why that's the case for me.

came here after watching the old power grip video, it fixed my slicing completely. gonna test these drills out next time im out at the range
Love it---hope this one serves you well!
yup, very good... will practice that later today
Thanks! Hope it helps!!
I will try your drill but can I ask is it worth practising with kids clubs for the drill?
You could do that yep!
When doing this split drill, I feel like doing a hockey slap/wrist shot, ensure I get my trail shoulder down and opening up my lead. Hip.
For sure---thats a good FEEL!
