As chefs, we cook all day at our job, when it comes to home cooking for ourselves, we aren’t gonna whip out some kind of high end restaurant dish. We just want to eat something simple and delicious, and not stand in the kitchen for hours on our day off. One pot/pan wonders is always the way to go!
I'm definitely going to have to figure out the curry chicken one. But I like to make a crack chicken in my slow cooker and so that turns into about 5:00 or so different meals. Cream broccoli chicken and rice, chicken quesadilla, King ranch casserole, white chicken enchiladas with queso cheese, a quick chicken salad if I feel the need I mean it's just very versatile.
Honestly the best curry sauces are the cheap shop brands in the jars, absolutely love cheap tikka or even a korma which is mild but theres a ton of flavour, has to be shops own brand like morrisons, cheap too! Shred the chicken, dont dice it and add instant pilau rice and eat it using ready salted crisps as a scoop, thank me later 😍😍😍
Bro I’m working in a cafe in London that sells fresh sourdough that staff can bring home if not bought that day. I’ve had two weeks of putting anything I can find on sourdough
Former chef, The left over pizza crust I rejected yesterday. Realistically though, when I was working for a busy restaurant the kitchen staff was there 14-16 everyday, six days a week. I ate whatever staff meal was readily available. You start looking for employees with a exotic background and make them make staff meal. Our dishwasher made an amazing biryani. When I opened my own restaurant my hours only went up. I made sure to put in a shower and a Murphy bed in my office. Unrelated story… one year during the Christmas holiday we were doing maybe 18 hours a day. One day, during a snowstorm, when we final got off in the morning the bus was delayed. After waiting 45 minutes I just went back to the restaurant and passed out in the lounge area. The morning prep crew was already there and I had to be back at work in about four hours anyways.
I graduated culinary school five years ago and the only time I’m expected to cook like a professional, when I’m not at my job is when I go home for the holidays!!😂😂😂
Roast chickens is the best way to go. It’s healthy. Plus you get better and better at roasting chicken which is a useful skill. I roast two chickens a week.
I feel this so much. I have been trying to cook more meals at home though to eat healthier, I just try to prep beforehand or cook fast meals and save leftovers for the week.
I'd make a pot of stew at the beginning of the week and have that with sandwiches over the week. Worked 50 hours minimum so I could set the crock pot to cook for 8 hours then stay warm and then dish out leftovers into individual servings.
A car mechanic will have every car running right except his own . Plumbers have leaky pipes . Roofers have cracks in their shingles , flooring installers will have at least one room with stained carpet . No one wants to come home and do what they do for a living with the same commitment they put into a work day lol
I as a chef I do too something easy good and doesn’t require 10 fing preparations. Mostly sandwiches, ramen or pasta dishes. And no Fries for me or anything that resembles from the menu at work, I am Fed up tasting and preparing by the time I’m back at home. And most of the time I eat very late at night. I need like a good hour till my body understand that I was tasting all the time and not really eating. FYI my go to dish is either aglio olio or carbonara simply because I have those ingredients most of the time and last long when they are well packaged😅
Even though they won’t cook super high end foods for themselves, let’s be honest. They’re still chefs. The food they eat has to meet SOME kind of standards. Their eggs and toasts are better than ours. I’m 100 percent sure
For all the plebs who don’t understand this. We cook at an insanely high level day in day out. When we’re off we just want to chill and NOT think about food
Big batches of something braised, served over rice. Make one or two during a day off and have it for the week. If you can't finish it, freeze the rest.
Line Cook here, it’s pretty typical for folks to have family meal and to take leftovers home in a soup cup to eat for later or just order food to take home. We work hard and play hard. But, we’re also on a budget and eating out sometimes isn’t a viable.
I usually stew ox tail and some beef. Put it in a fridge and slap in some sauces when i throw it in a pan. Get a bowl of rice, pasta or instant mash. Then have frozen or canned vegetables. If i have fresh veggies or mushrooms i use that instead obviously. Its easy. Just takes 15 mins or less.
I usually just eat processed food before same as most chef. But its better for my health and better food when i just stew a kilo or 2 of oxtail or beef then use that as my meat for a week. Roasting is also good i once did that with a lamb leg. Ate it for a week. Also its good to have mince meat or chicken marinating in the fridge which you can put in the air fryer or oven: this is what i recommend specially for moms or dads like me that has to cook for the family a few times a week.
Chef here. I just eat leftovers from the shop or make a tomato sandwich- so tired that taste doesn't matter . Just fill my stomach for my meds. Or if I have little energy- I make ghee khichdi in a pressure cooker and eat it for 3 days.
honestly wiht the ammount of tasting throughout the day and the food that goes through your hands even if I didnt eat basically anything I didnt want to eat
depends on if he is delivering in the city or the suburbs/rural areas, as most suburbs/rural areas have mailboxes right next to the street so the mailmen there don't have to get out of the mail truck.
but i’ve never understand how people can have a passionate love for food but then go home and eat baked beans, is their joy purely in making good for others?
Cereal, ramen, always keep loaf of bread and meats at the house to kind of make a quick sandwich or just go get something. But now that it's about to be cooler weather, it's time for slow cooker! I love to make about 4 or 5 slow cook packs for the freezer and I'll throw them into the slow cooker in the morning so by the time I get home 8:00 or so hours later, it's done.
We eat while we work. Mine is usually the chips, veggies and literally scraps of meat after plating up. You'd be surprised how much. So like a table of 5 could see you with q bug handful of chips, good few bits of broccoli and carrots and if its ham or beef then the pieces that don't look to appetising are good. Im always full by end of service. The best is when you've made too many puddings and their best before date is on the morning you start. Technically theyd be fine, but by law they have to get binned. But if its something like macaroons or creme brulé then it's a bonus 😂😂
This is why I couldn't hack it in a professional kitchen! Too much stress and I wouldn't wanna cook for myself. Respect to all the chefs out there but cooking is how I chill out.
Poached eggs on toast, maybe a simple burger, ramen, pizza. That's about it for me. All quick, easy and tasty. It's not about not wanting to cook on my days off, i LOVE cooking at home or work. It's juat laziness
As a chef by trade. I hated cooking at home, just couldn't be assed with it, for me, i did pork chops in a cumin pan sauce with mashed potatoes and that did me. Left the industry years ago because of the antisocial hours.

The guy saying eggs and toast was instantly craving it and thinking about how he would make it when he got home 😅
I picked up on that too 😆
After a long day of service I usually stand in my pants in front of the kitchen cupboard and eat a full bag of Daim bars.
This really made me laugh 😂😂
This is quite possibly the funniest comment I've ever read. I full on belly laughed 😂
This is just as accurate as it is funny 😂
Hummus and crackers whilst standing at the fridge
The roast chicken for the week guy gets it. There’s a million ways to do chicken

Wow this whole time I've been cooking (at home) like a professional chef!

My man with the roast chicken giving out life tips
ikr, he started listing off all the possibile recipes and i was like "damn thats smart"

Eggs and toast was definitely the move after getting home at 3 am after shutting down the bar with the kitchen goons

It seems chefs either stop “cooking” once they leave their job or they make crazy dishes at home. No in between
Or they make crazy dishes at home... After they retire out of the profession and do something else.
14+ hours on you feet cooking, can really make you wanna not be on your feet cooking when you get home. Weird.

Boiled eggs on toast with chilli flakes or a slab of mature chedder with branstons pickle. Can't be arsed cooking when iv been at it all day.
