When KD sings I feel her sensitivity, pain and joy, a beautiful storyteller with song. She can sing jazz, country, contemporary, pop. She's so humble too, in her documentary.
Check out her slow torch song, My Last Cigarette, from her Drag album, and you'll see her power on a whole different level. Slower, more muted, but emotionally devastating.
If this doesn't getcha, you can't get got. She is underappreciated for sure. This is a Roy Orbison classic. I've been listening to kd since "Ultimate Torch and Twang". Personal fave is a smaller gem: "Smoke Screen" from "Drag". Breaks my heart.
As for the Drag album, my very favorite is that slow, smoky torch ballad, My Last Cigarette. Also, check out the version of Crying she sang on a live tv show in australia in front of a studio audience of 50-60 somethings with the studio band. She could have thought, eh, I don't need to work hard, they won't know the difference, but that's not kd. It's one of my all time favorite kd performances. She gives and gives, no matter what.
Thank you for mentioning Roy Orbison, he was also a very unique talent. I was tipped off to KD's talent maybe 87-88 by some trendy lesbians I knew. She was like the Beatles, but for women in comfortable shoes.
Also, as a Gay Canadian man.......from the same generation.....she is very well trained.....she sang as a child ...and she is very .....she is breaking my fucking heart.
There’s a reason KD is a Queer Canadian icon. Plus if you get THE Roy Orbison’s co-sign as an amazing vocalist…I’d make a tshirt with that for every day so everyone knew. Was always interesting how my homophobic grandpa loved Orbison & listened to KD because of her similarity.
Everyone knew she was a gay woman, but it wasn’t talked about. She didn’t feel she needed to introduce herself that way like you did. It was her voice, her soul. We were better off when that was the way it was.
WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!! Stunning vocals. This got me she sang it with such emotion that I am Crying. Beautiful song created by a legend Mr Roy Orbison who is looking down from heaven smiling at this performance from KD Lang. Such a talented singer. ABSOLUTELY OUT OF THIS WORLD. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
This is one of the most incredible performances of this song I've seen her do, the slower tempo, she caresses each word, and your reaction is just beautiful. I love how you also take note of the orchestra.
I put both Karen Carpenter and KD Lang in the top female vocalists of all time. We lost Karen 40 years ago but her voice will shine for eternity. With KD, many of her fans are thankful she is still with us and her music, like Karen's, will be forever in our hearts and souls. I cry every time I hear these two extremely gifted talented ladies. My favorite song is this rendition of KD's of "Crying" and of course you can't help but stand in awe - with tears flowing down your face. Humanity has been blessed. So thankful.
She did a tour in Australia, and sang Crying on a live tv show, without rehearsing, with a studio band, in front of a studio crowd of middle-aged Aussies, and blew the song away.
That final note proves she has the lung capacity of a blue whale. I saw her do this one live, back at this time and it was mind-blowing. Lovely person, too, and her own material is exceptional.
She’s a genuine master vocalist and performer, we’re lucky to be alive when she is☺️ This song and her Vancouver Hallelujah bring me to tears every time. Now that you’ve seen this version, find her 10-20 years later singing Crying at the Roy Orbison tribute (after he passed) The audience leaps to a standing ovation to thank and cheer her for a lifetime of sharing her incredible, soulful talent with us. See how she is humbly, beautifully, overwhelmed ♥️
K D Lang is a very humble performer, did you note her bow to the audience? 🍁 If you contacted her, you would love to hear her comment, on this Tribute to Roy Orbison -- on a Zoom call, that would be awesome.
I had the opportunity in the early '90s to attend two k d lang concerts in the Boston area (we drove through a snowstorm to get to one of them), and was totally blown away. Even now when I've watched dozens of reaction videos to Hallelujah and Crying, I get goose bumps. Loved seeing your immediate response and commentary. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve always thought she wasn’t as appreciated because she was a lesbian. 25 years ago people weren’t as accepting of peoples life styles. Of course we still have a long way to go. So many favorite songs, but if you haven’t heard her western/cowboy album, you are in for a treat.
Thanks for doing kd again Pat she is the most underrated singer of all time. Willie Nelson calls her pipes because she has the best in the business. I've never had a voice effect me like hers. She is amazing. Check out Constant Cravings. 🇨🇦❤
This song was first sung by Roy Orbison in 1961 and has been sung by many others ever since. But K.D. Lang took it to a whole new level ! She stirs your emotions.
KD Lang had a hard start in CW music but people who listened to her sing ,LISTENED,and Listened and look where she is now . Keep listening ,she is fantastic .
My favorite female vocalist! ❤ I highly suggest her official video cover of Cole Porter's "So In Love" off the Red Hot and Blue AIDS Benefit album. You will definitely get the feels ❤
This Lady makes others artists beautiful music her own beauty. Her own music “Pulling Back The Reins” is on of many I like listening too. There is no Voice like hers ❤
KD is the best singer of all time! Her voice is like velvet and turns me into a puddle on the floor like no other...even more powerful than Celine, Shirley Bassey, Martina McBride my other favorites of powerful voices. Lucky enough to see her in two concerts. Sublime.
I love KD Lang. She's one in a million. I have to say Pat, watching your reaction to her singing just made me want to wrap my arms around you and hold you. Love that words of a song etc can bring out your emotions.
K D is one of the greatest voices out there. Very moving. Goose bumps every time I hear her sing. The same feeling I get when I hear Liza Minnelli when she sings New York, New York. Thanks for sharing.
I’m so pleased to discover channels where young people are discovering musicians from previous generations. It’s fascinating to see the appreciative responses. I’m in my seventies and I listen to almost every genre and my collection includes music from some of the earliest recorded music up to present day musicians. Music is so spiritual and inclusive. It doesn’t matter about genre, race, colour, ethnicity, country of origin, language, religion, gender, sexual orientation, sexual identity, era when written, era when performed, age of performers, age of audience, or anything else. Music transcends everything and joins the listeners who appreciate it in a bond of brotherhood and fellowship. Maybe my age is showing, though, because so much of the current popular music leaves me cold. So many of the singers and the instruments can sound sterile, artificial, and passionless. There are still some great popular singers and musicians but they seem to be the exceptions. Anyway, this is the first time I watched this channel and I really enjoyed it. Thank you.
K D did a duet of this with Roy Orbison (who wrote the song with Joe Melson and released it in the early 60s). A quite amazing performance with two matchless voices soaring up to make you tingle. As for K D, a song I listen to all the time is Love is Everything from her album Hymns of the 49th Parallel (which doesn’t have a dud song in it). Written by Jane Siberry (who incidentally has never written a dud song full stop!). Can I mention please that the sound volume was so low, as opposed to your commentary which was loud and clear, that it was difficult to hear. Yes I did increase the volume but clearly a tech issue to be looked at.
This was originally a hit by the late Roy Orbison from 1962. KD actually sang this at an event with Orbison and it was a beautiful Duet. She also sang it during the Tribute To Roy Orbison as well. Her voice is indescribable. It is just simply A BEAUTIFUL VOICE. I don't recall if she ever completely took off here in America. She is Canadian. Her voice sounds like HONEY AND FLOWERS.
Thanks - KD is so amazing.. what a great version of Roy Orbison's "Crying".. hope you listen to more by KD.. I always appreciate your reactions! (p.s. I like your reference to Bobby Hatfield.. Unchained Melody.. just the pure talent and emotion.. some people just have that.. and there are not many...)
BeeGees fan here. I love Miss KD take on this classic. Have you done ( cannot find) KD's Miss Chatelaine & Constant Craving?- from the same cd if im remembering correctly. Very sensual. ❤Love your reactions.❤❤❤
Another suggestion: Diana Krawll, singing: "California Dreamin", and "The look of Love" and Sarah McLachlan singing "I will remember you", or "Sweet Surrender". 🍁
kd's a treasure. I'm so proud to be Canadian, too. Check out "Hymns of the 49th Parallel" - she covers amazing Canadian artists (with two from Leonard Cohen, including "Hallelujah")
Great Voice, K.D….Wonderful New Reactor, YOU! I loved your spontaneous responses. You clapped > I clapped. You stood up > I stood up. Well DONE, Sir! Will watch your reactions again.😁
She did it even better than the original! Really appreciate your genuine reaction; thank you for sharing with us. Great comparison to Unchained Melody in sense of gentle yet deeply emotional.
Sweetheart, never you mind what others have to say about how you react to what music you play, if they don't like it, they can move on. I know in order for you to get recognized and make some kind of money at it....just do what you are doing because you love what you do, and share..THAT!. And the rest will follow. Just be honest in the love for the music or wanting to know more of music you didn't know....never be ashamed of enjoying music you never heard of, or be embarrassed that something you love today, is so far in the past...Just be yourself, be humble, be kind, and you will find the same kind of people. For all the critics out there...well, let them find their own channel to channel their hate and BS. Pat, do you. Its that simple. lots of love sweetheart.
Oh what a wonderful rabbit whole you have just discovered. She is soooo awesome! Its almost like going to church for me. I was lucky enough to got back stage and meet her in CA 30+ years ago. She is as awesome a human as she is a singer. Try Constant Craving for another good one!
HI PAT! I AGREE with you: K.D.'s "Hallelujah" performance at the Olympics was my FAV performance, until I saw this MTV Unplugged piece the other day... This last weekend, I was watching a short interview with K.D. (sometime recent... maybe last year?) ...and the interviewer asked her who had had a big influence on her/that she missed because they were gone. Without hesitating, K.D. said: "ROY". (Roy Orbison, the originator of this song; K.D. had done a duet - GORGEOUS, of course - of "Crying" with Roy before he passed away. Re. their duet, there's one - maybe two - live performances of them singing together, as well as the studio recording/official MV.) The next name she said was "Tony". (Tony Bennett; she had teamed up with him for a couple of duets also... When Tony passed away recently, K.D. appeared on one of the morning shows live to sing a tribute to him.) THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY DAY!!! -Marcie Orcutt
KD Lang is awesome! I can't get enough of her singing, especially, "Crying." Loved your reaction! I will watch her singing this song over and over again! It was fun watching you enjoy her singing! xoxox
You nailed it, The intensity, truly makes it a fine comparison to Unchained Melody... not too many can make obisons songs or Rightous Bros sound so incredible! Shes SO got what it takes ❤!
If upu don't shed tears on that one you ice water in your veins.Thank you Patrick for your totally amazing reaction to Crying.I think you are doing an amazing job. Keep up the good work.😊😊❤😂
P.B.: this is an old rock standard from the 60s rock legend Roy Orbison. Don't know if you like old 60s rock, but if you want to explore, Roy Orbison gave a performance in which he was backed-up by K. D. Lang, Jennifer Warnes, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Elvis Costello, T Bone Burnett, Bruce Springsteen and others. The performance is called "Black & White Night". Might be worth a watch for you. Continue your wonderful, thoughtful reactions. Thank you!
i love this song and watching you getting emotional to a great singer and the song... it was written and originally preformed by the great Roy Orbison... in the 60s.. thank you for offering in your program.
My favourite “Crying” is the live recording tribute to Roy Orbison, but even her studio version on an Australian show was powerful. Love your reactions and analysis! ❤️🇨🇦
That was awesome. U did not interrupt/stop the performance whatsoever. I loved your reaction in the background. You let us listen to it in full so we could get the entire buildup of the song and afterwards you comment on it. Love it love it love it. You are subscribe worthy. She’s one of my favorites.
She is one of the greatest singers of all time - period! ❤️
She has been one of my favorite singers for many years. Even when she sang songs with a more country sound ( and I do not like country western)
kd Lang has always been 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
not one. the.
I 100% agree she is the most underrated singer of all time❤🇨🇦
Awesome A totally different one is KD LANG SINGING Miss "Chatelaine"
When KD sings I feel her sensitivity, pain and joy, a beautiful storyteller with song. She can sing jazz, country, contemporary, pop. She's so humble too, in her documentary.
She has such control over her breathing! That last verse she holds for 22 seconds. THAT'S Power!
Check out her slow torch song, My Last Cigarette, from her Drag album, and you'll see her power on a whole different level. Slower, more muted, but emotionally devastating.
She is phenomenal! Never heard a combination of raw power and total control like that other than k.d. lang. One of a kind voice!
Thank you for this. KD is a Canadian treasure that we love to share with the world.
And the world is grateful! Truly.
She is a musical instrument!!!
Well said, Ruth - she IS!
If this doesn't getcha, you can't get got. She is underappreciated for sure. This is a Roy Orbison classic. I've been listening to kd since "Ultimate Torch and Twang". Personal fave is a smaller gem: "Smoke Screen" from "Drag". Breaks my heart.
Why do you say she is underappreciated? She has a great career and probably sells out At every performance.

Make sure you also watch her tribute to the song's originator, Roy Orbison right after he passed. Its a couple levels above this.
Keep forgetting, how insane her breath control is, lol. She can hold a note for five years!
KD is a Canadian icon with a voice of an angel

Very few live performances reach this level of perfection-- kd checks all the boxes in this one. Great reaction, Prez!
K D Lang is a very humble performer, did you note her bow to the audience? 🍁
If you contacted her, you would love to hear her comment, on this Tribute to Roy Orbison -- on a Zoom call, that would be awesome.
she is incomparable ❤
Thank you for not stopping the song. The and only reviews worth watching don’t stop mid song. KD Lang is a gem. She could sing the dictionary.
Oh wow! So fortunate to see her live!
She covers a Patsy Cline classic on the Tonight Show. You have to watch her do three cigarettes in an ashtray on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
Definitely a must view performance!!!
Thank you so much for showcasing K.D. Lang. I find that her voice and delivery is so effortless it gives me the chills
Thank you. Her voice is phenomenal and I've always thought that she didn't get enough attention.
I’ve always thought she wasn’t as appreciated because she was a lesbian. 25 years ago people weren’t as accepting of peoples life styles. Of course we still have a long way to go. So many favorite songs, but if you haven’t heard her western/cowboy album, you are in for a treat.
You put that perfectly for MTV unplugged - where "real artists" go to show their talent and K.D. Lang epitomizes that 100%.
Patrick, I adore watching your reactions to her singing. I’m 73 and feel the same way (for many years) ❣️❣️❣️❣️
Thanks for doing kd again Pat she is the most underrated singer of all time. Willie Nelson calls her pipes because she has the best in the business. I've never had a voice effect me like hers. She is amazing. Check out Constant Cravings. 🇨🇦❤
Just sheer greatness. She most definitely is next level. ❤
I totally agree with you. Her control, power and beautiful sound is other-worldly!! What a gifted artist!!❤❤❤❤
Amazing reaction to a phenomenal performance
K. D. Sings from her heart, you can tell she feels every single lyric! What a blessing she is! I think the word you are looking for is “ angelic”.
This song was first sung by Roy Orbison in 1961 and has been sung by many others ever since. But K.D. Lang took it to a whole new level ! She stirs your emotions.
Roy said that after he heard K D sing it, that the song now belongs to her.

K.D. Sang a few songs with Roy ..
KD Lang had a hard start in CW music but people who listened to her sing ,LISTENED,and Listened and look where she is now . Keep listening ,she is fantastic .
She is one of the best at interpreting a song for the feeling it should impose on you .
You are not alone, she has me crying all the time...she has such a haunting voice....so smooth, effortless....classic!
K d lang super epic super super star super talented enough said thanks pat ❤👍👍👍👍👍❤
i love kd's 'barefoot'. its so haunting and she howls like a wolf.

What a beautiful voice!! ❤👏🏻🎼🌷
Johnny Carson adored her, he always had her back, she made him cry with that voice more than once..
Constant Craving is another great song of hers
K.D. did a duet of this song with Roy Orbison and then sang it at his tribute. What a fabulous voice 💜👵🏼✌🏼
She takes a persons breath away! Absolutely adore KD Lang! Great reaction ❤

I love KD Lang. She's one in a million. I have to say Pat, watching your reaction to her singing just made me want to wrap my arms around you and hold you. Love that words of a song etc can bring out your emotions.
She 🕊️ flys with the angels 🕊️

Listen to kd lang's, Constant Craving. Gorgeous.
"Crying" is a song written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson . Orbison released it in 1961 . It was #2 in the US
So proud that she's Canadian!!!
Been a fan of k.d.lang since way back , if I’m right she used to be a backing singer for some of the top singers including Roy Robison .
K D is one of the greatest voices out there. Very moving. Goose bumps every time I hear her sing. The same feeling I get when I hear Liza Minnelli when she sings New York, New York. Thanks for sharing.
She is what love about music! ❤❤❤
Roy Orbison and her did that song together. Roy gave her song to run with it
I’m Australian. She is loved down under. She has a great voice
This is a voice from God xoxoxo
