Nice to see that the majority would choose the PO as I did.
I chose it because of three things: the superior 8900 movement, better grip on the bezel and the design.

No contest - for me, it's the Planet Ocean all day long. I own one of the second generation ones from 2013, and it's an absolute beast - never misses a beat, feels great and looks great. The latest generation with the micro-adjustment bracelets are even better. Don't get me wrong, the Seamaster 300m is an amazing watch for the price, but i just don't think it matches the PO for specs or presence on the wrist.

  • @KunieOG

I own a Planet Ocean 45.5 Titanium but the Seamaster 300M is just as beautiful.
I'd still stay with my trusty Planet Ocean. I concur with your point that it is more of a proper tool watch. It's also the more premium among the Seamaster line. I get compliments left and right.
But you can't go wrong with both 🙂 Omega offers the best bang for buck among diver's watches.

I've the white dial planet ocean with the orange bezel and the lume on this one is insane. The whole bezel is lumed and it lights up like a targeting computer. Don't know why they only did it on this particular colour in the model range, but it's awesome. The SMP 300 has a couple things going for it, but stacked up against the planet ocean its a pretty easy win for the planet ocean, so long as your wrist can wear it.

Given that I'm (hopefully) never to reach the depth limits of 300m let alone 600m by first thought is both are overkill. But aesthetically to me the 300 looks better mainly because the date is at 6 and it doesn't have the mirror Arabic numerals. I'm fine with them at 3, 6 and 9 but the date replacing a 3 numeral bugs me. I love the flat dial of the PO and in my opinion the 8900 is my preferred movement but overall the SMP300M is the one for me. If I was a saturation diver I'd certainly consider the PO but would probably go for the titanium Pelagos from Tudor as a tool watch with 500m depth with in my opinion better lumed plots and fully lumed bezel. Each to our own as both watches are brilliant. Thanks for sharing Harrison (as always) for sharing.

  • @brownmcpherson5724

Harrison, both watches are Seamasters..... Nit picking aside, I have 4 Seamasters, 43.5 PO, a Titanium Ploprof and a 2234.50 and a 2255.80.
Love my two 300's but do not like the bezel. The lume is far better than the PO or newer 300M like yours. The PO bezel is far superior, comparable to a Sub 41, which I have owned. Both my 300's are on Speedmaster bracelets as I really do not like the Bond style bracelet. I have an 8.25" wrist, so the size of the PO is not an issue. But it is the heaviest watch I own and is noticeable on the wrist. I've bought an Omega OEM rubber strap for it but the issue there is its way out of balance with the heavy head of the PO. I think the PO is a fantastic watch and clearly a better buy than a Sub and, for me at least, a more elegant design (not flashy) than the 300M.

  • @GuyVanderAa

I love the Seamaster 300 but the Planet Ocean is the better watch. 😎
It’s not a pure toolwatch. The design and materials make it beautiful as well. (Unlike for example a Tudor Pelagos). The PO is just more tough than the Seamaster Diver 300.

There is an important difference between the movements, with the PO the hour hand moves in hour increments at the first pull out position making it good for adjusting the time when travelling but it means you have to rotate it through 24 hours to change the date. On the 300m it is the more common date advancement at the first position. Both have their advantages

I own the blue 43,5mm PO. Before I bought it I compared it head to head against the SMP300. Besides the thickness the 300 had no chance against the PO. What you didn't mentioned is that the diameter of the bezel of both watches is the same at 42mm. That's why the PO wears like a 42mm and both wear pretty identical.

  • @AntonioRamirez-s9f

Do you know why Rolex and Doxa invented the automatic helium escape valve? Because divers kept forgetting to unscrew the crown to let out the helium during decompression. Therefore the Rolex/Doxa solution has an auto valve that opens by itself. Imagine how idiotic it must be to "invent" a helium escape valve that still requires you to remember to unscrew a crown, instead of you know, just using the regular crown. Just like I wouldn't buy a car with a second steering wheel even if the steering wheel looks cool, I wouldn't buy a diving watch with a second useless crown.

  • @NicolasMiari

I like the concave silhouette of the SMP 300 so much more. It is the pinnacle of lyre lugs, IMHO.
The thinner case, wave pattern dial, round indices off the cardinal positions, are all bonuses.

i dive in UK waters - i ended up getting rid of my seamaster 300 - the scalloped bezel is totally useless with gloves, the skeleton hands equally useless..... the reason why Omega ended up changing these for the Planet Ocean - wise decision! I actually went to a Pelagos - higher spec than the Planet Ocean with even more improvements - inboard He valve (looks better and less chance of damage), fully lumed bezel, much better legibility, much much better bracelet and clasp - and a saving on the seamaster 300, let alone the PO!!! Seamaster 300m for sales reps/boardroom and the pub! PO/Peli for divers!

PO is a better watch, but unfortunately large watches like this don't sell. So 300m pro is more popular. For a good comparison, consider the Submariner vs Sea Dweller - they are effectively the same watch apart from size, yet an ocean apart in popularity

  • @TurnRiver

The PO, especially the 39.5 version conforms to 2 objections that watch enthusiasts loathe the most, a thicker case and subtle to no bracelet taper. • @bellerophon9116
    @bellerophon9116 5 месяцев назад

They are both tool/sports watches by the very definition and function of what they do. One has more of a depth rating than, the other - but both are dive watches meant to serve that specific role/purpose. It mostly comes down to preference of how you want the watch to sit on your wrist, which style you like more, and which bracelet you prefer. Because let's face it, with few exceptions virtually no one will dive to any significant depth with these timepieces on their wrist.
In terms of which looks more dressy, they both equal out. The liquid metal and ceramic bezel on the Planet Ocean has a nicer polished look than the 300m, but the 300m lug shape more generous crown guards afford more eye-catching high-polished edge real estate by a small margin to more evenly match the Planet Ocean's higher luster bezel. The Planet Ocean has a more bold wrist presence due to the added thickness, and the 300m more easily slides under a dress cuff. (Note: The Planet Ocean will also easily fit under a dress cuff by simply having the sleeve cuff button moved out about 1/4 of an inch for most people) The extra wrist presence does come at the cost of being more likely to get caught on things when moving about, but that can be avoided by paying more attention to your movements and what you do while wearing it. If you don't want to focus on such things as where you put your hands as often, pick the 300m.
If price is a concern and you're on a tight budget, the 300m is cheaper. But the cost difference isn't huge and given that we are talking about a luxury timepiece, I suspect prospective buyers will have enough money to cover the cost difference.
The Bond connection: Particularly speaking about the Daniel Craig era of Bond, you can take your pick of your favorite in the Seamaster line, because Craig wore several of the Seamaster models as part of Omega's marketing. Omega had Craig wearing the newest releases of many Seamaster timepieces at the time of the release of the various Bond films, so unless your heart is set on one of the screen accurate models, like the look of the previous models better, or want a more heavily discounted price for an Omega watch, the current iterations are worth considering for the refinements in the movements. Ex: The Caliber 8900 movement found in the current Planet Ocean and Aqua Terra is more refined than the previous 8500; however, the 8500 is still a great movement! But if you want the option the covers both the Craig era of Bond as well as the Brosnan era, the 300m is your only option.
Caution: Specifically speaking of the Planet Ocean: If you're not used to wearing a heavier timepiece, wear a cheaper watch of similar weight and bulk every day for about a month or so until you grow used to it. The weight will affect your arm swing more than you will expect and it will cause your wrist to smack nearby surfaces until you've had time to adjust your patterns and muscle memory. Given that both Omega divers discussed here have somewhat vulnerable anti reflective coating on the outside of the crystal, a rough surface or sharp bur near a wall as you turn the corner inside/outside of building could prove to be an expensive repair if you scratch the anti reflective coating. This particular point could also impact you when wearing the 300m, but the Planet Ocean is noticeably heavier and thicker which more significantly increases the likelihood of an unintentional impact. Neither weight is uncomfortable on the wrist, but you'll notice more heft in the Planet Ocean than with the 300m.

I looked at the No Time To Die Seamaster and the Black Bay 58 925, but ultimately went for a 39.5mm PO. The bracelet drapes beautifully, it is a chunky piece of metal but it's excellently proportioned and wears really well. The Seamaster has better design while the PO has better bracelet. I'm hoping the next version of the 300m is slimmer at the very least and comes with a tapered strap. Not a big fan of the broad arrow hands on the PO even though I like it on other models. 300m for the win.

Seamaster pretty? For me I just hated the shape of those bezel, they just look ugly as is their bracelet. You want real watch, take planet ocean any time any day 👍

I’m on team No Crown Guards.
Crown guards are goofy, I can’t think of a time where anyone needs them or how they would even protect a crown.
Plus a lot look ugly as sin (Longines)

I have 3 PO's and one SM, so clearly I like the PO more, but both are great watches in their own right. I don't see myself buying another SM, but am on the hunt for a titanium PO to add

I could have bought either, went with 300smp because i have a Trident pro that is essentially really similar to the PO

So, if you do manage to damage the anti reflective coating, poly watch can maybe clear it up. FYI

PO reminds me of a Seiko Sumo. Not saying that’s a bad thing-I had a sumo and loved it.

My vote is for the planet ocean in 39.5 mm because of the shorter lug to lug and better bezel action.

Had both but sold the PO and personally prefer the 300 hence still having it. I think it’s a much better and interesting looking watch and having a 6 o’clock date window. I found the honeymoon period ended relatively quickly with the PO. Admittedly I prefer the PO bracelet though and both are great watches.

The Planet Ocean is certainly serious looking. It's disappointing the lume cardinal markers are tiny. The numeral markers aren't lumed. Just ridiculous design
