Obviously they carried out the platonic part of their relationship at least one or two seasons too long, but the one that annoyed me the most was the forehead kiss at the end of season 7, episode 2. They told each other they were each other‘s touchstone, and then Scully kisses his bandaged forehead. What made the timing even worse is that they finally had them kiss just two episodes later. While that kiss was fine, the timing of the earlier episode would have been much better. The stuff they said to each other was basically wedding vows.
We were lucky to get even that - Chris Carter intended the scene to end with Mulder left sitting on his sofa crying about Diana! It was down to David 💜 insisting on rewriting the end that we got the whole touchstone thing at all.

That is not just a forehead kiss she basically makes out with his forehead.
A forehead kiss has a different meaning in my opinion. Less romantic but more "I care for you deeply and I love your soul" kind of way. It was more like she's just so grateful to have him in her life and "thank you for being there" kind of kiss.
Personally, I think the forehead kiss worked. Scully had just given Mulder an incredibly sad piece of news and for the show to turn that into one of them making a move would have felt cheap to me. It's for the same reason I'm actually glad we didn't get a kiss during their big scene together in Memento Mori. I want their romantic moments to be about each other --- not about grief or sadness. I think it was enough in 7x02 that they told each other how they felt and let things progress naturally from there. One could argue it would have been nicer to see more of it unfold on the screen, but... I maintain my view on it.
The last "love you" - "you too" wasn't supposed to be recorded. That's a really sweet moment between David and Gillian. AS FRIENDS who do love each other. They are FRIENDS ❤️

Oh my. This was my favourite show back in the days. One tender look between these two those days could make me wait for an entire week to watch the next episode. This was the perfect show then. The music, character display, language etc. This show made a great impact on my life ❤️

I remember I watched this show only because of these two. Their adventures, bond, banter, chemistry and relationship was everything to me. I didn't really care about the whole fantastic part of the story but the two main leads. I really waited them to be together. I stopped watching - I forgot why, it was long ago. But they still were colleagues and friends. They're really good actors
The second deleted scene from Memento Mori is truly a work of art. The way he kisses her face. Her little gasps. How she tucks right back into him after. I get it David, we all wanted to inhale her.

No other show can get away with portraying a beautiful relationship where the couple are basically on screen together for over a decade and yet you can about count their total on screen kisses on one hand. Other shows would be over-kill on the intimacy like the audience HAVE to see every little thing to be convinced they love each other. Not so.
