I would agree but considering that Credit One isn't as bad as Premier Bank. Credit One will be the better card for people in the SubPrime category.
Mission Lane, Destiny,Indigo, Open Sky are really bad too with high annual fees. Even those cards are one step above F on the Premier Card.

I've been a member of Navy Federal Credit Union for 40 years. Back then we had to wait until we were deployed overseas to join, and we had to have a money order for our opening deposit. This was a lot of fun (and informative) Spencer. I just can't bring myself to put the Chase ecosystem in the same tier as Amex. I do agree that for the majority, Chase is better. However, Amex is really not a "majority" Issuer. In some ways it's apples to oranges, and they probably exist for different use-cases and target demos. Chase has gaping holes in their ecosystem: groceries, gas, no 2x basic earn, and 3x restaurants is just meh. The largest bank in America is way behind Amex on a lounge ecosystem. Though I really like Chase, they end up A or A+ if I'm generous. Great stuff man!👍🏾

Although chase has good partners I feel like people never mention that chase's cards have very poor point earning if youre not churning the bonuses. Locked in at 1.5x when the FF's category isnt good (i.e. rn). Imo most of Chase can just be replaced by the bilt card which has hyatt. Just combine Bilt with something like Citi and optionally use the VX for travel/costco to replace the DC.

At my current stage in the game, my ranking definitely aligns with yours. Although I personally don’t like the coupon approach of Amex which ranks it behind C1 for me. The USBAR is an intriguing option right now. For someone that leans more towards portal redemptions vs transfer partners or domestic/economy travel, I think an interesting argument can be made for using the USBAR with the “realtime rewards” over the CSR. The main drawback I see is the inability to transfer points between USBank cards though

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial

@@SpencerJohnsonOfficialabsolutely! Keep up the great work.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but for someone content with 1.5cpp and not concerned with the potential outsized value of transfer partners, the USBAR essentially opens up the playing field for all carriers either through the portal or by utilizing the “realtime rewards” directly with each carrier. This is obviously leaving a lot of value on the table for business/first class flights, but for economy it’s a valid option.

I also find Lowe’s to be a great card. I am a veteran and get an automatic 10% which stacks with 5% off using that card. That is an everyday thing. As I mentioned, they’re pushing the envelope in the credit card game rn and with them recently adding partners, their lineup is really competitive objectively. This is all based on my personal opinions, so you may rank em different and that’s what great about the credit card game!

A lot of times that's true, but that doesn't mean the cards are worth it for them. A lot of times they're wasting money on high annual fee cards.

The biggest change I would make would be swapping Barclays and Discover. I've been a customer with Barclays for a very long time, I have and use multiple cards from them, and I have never had an issue with their customer service. They are certainly a B Tier lender. As for Discover they have one card of any interest that works on a limited system that is not accepted everywhere, especially if you travel internationally. They are the very definition of a one trick pony.
Thanks for the content, Spencer. A fun conversation for certain!

I also have not experienced any problems with Barclay's customer service, so far. I was approved for 2 cards within a week of each other. For the business card I had to do KYC but I was able to fax my docs to them and had a virtual card in a couple of days. I did have to call recon when I applied for the second card but that was because of the short time between apps. 10 minutes on the phone and I had my second card.
The cards were the Wyndham Business and Hawaiian Airlines.

Agree with everything except I would switch Barclays and Amex. Had great customer service with Barclays and awful customer service with Amex today even though I have the platinum. Barclays AA and Hawaiian are the best credit cards ever. Just buy a pack of gum with each and you're done. No annoying Amex minimum spend with no tracker and confusing misleading practices. No coupons. Just went to Phoenix Centurion lounge and it was disgusting. Tiny fruitflies and other insects flying around. Cold white bread dinner rolls. Stopped making cocktails at 7:30, arrived at 7:36. Rude people. Terrible environment.

Wow that’s super interesting! Usually Amex is considered the best of the best when it comes to service, but I’ve seen more reports of them dropping the ball lately which is odd. Thank you for sharing your experience!

@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial As you said in your video, their logo looks close to Capital One and they're predatory. They target those who have terrible credit and/or are low income earners. So they prey on those who are trying to rebuild their credit or desperately need a line of credit to help survive.

Is this a travel points value ranking? If it is, then seems like a good ranking. If its a credit card ranking, then I dont know. Capital One, Wells and especially US Bank and BofA are fabulous earners for cashback. From that standpoint, they are laughably better than Amex and Chase.

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  3 месяца назад

As I mentioned in the beginning, I took into account a lot of factors including points ecosystems, card offerings, etc. For those on team cashback I could see why you'd rank others higher!

Shortly after that they canceled my card for no legit reason. I complained to the credit bureaus, and they eventually removed Discovers' closed acct notifications from my credit report.
