The audio was recorded in a closet, which is actually a pretty effective sound booth when filled with clothes. The video was filmed in the kitchen of Avi and Kevin's shared apartment. They did a lot with a smoke machine, a ring light, what looks like a color change light, a blacklight and a plain background. Most of the epicness came from makeup, hair and wardrobe, though the editing worked well too. 😅
Actually it cost more than $400. The post production work was outsourced and cost extra money but still considering the numbers it posted was still very cheap to make.
I've seen them live. The video is just production. I'm sure there is some sound edits in the vid.....but damn, it's pretty farking close to live. To my uneducated ear? Can't tell the difference between this and "in person".
I love that after all these years people are still seeing this for the first time. Thanks for the flashback, love it! Just remember, every year there's 135ish million people born who will eventually be seeing it for the first time too. I enjoyed taking that ride with you!
They are the firsts and Only acapella group to have a Star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame! They are amazing! Edit: They pride themselves on never putting out a video of a song they could NOT do on a live show! So when you see them live you get the same performance you would expect...with of course some differences in the arrangements for the live shows!
5 Grammy nominations, 3 Grammy awards, multi platinum, over 350 covers and original songs. Check out their live performance of ‘Kiss from a Rose’, VEVO studio and prepare yourself to be mind blown. They also were on the Masked Singer television show….crazy good.
I love Pentatonix. I love your shocked look 😳 & 🤯… the reaction was amazing. These artists are just Incredible. Thanks for sharing your review of this A Capella Group. I would recommend 90’s Medley. 🎧🎼💫🎶🙌🏽
Your reaction to daft punk was probably what the grammy voters did too. They sing this in concert too. All their songs are intended to be done live when touring. Enjoy exploring these guys. They often do upgrades instead of covers.
That was a very fun reaction, guys! This is a medley of songs from a French duo called Daft Punk who wore motorcycle helmets and did some really cool EDM stuff. The day PTX was supposed to record this at a studio, there were problems with the booking, so rather than lose days trying to re-book, they decided to record it in two of the group's closets and do filming in the kitchen as well as basic editing. They splurged a whole $400 on props, lighting and make-up but did spend more eventually, sending it to their sound guys and producer for final edits. They won their first Grammy for this!! The song they mentioned at the end speech of the video, Run To You, is their own original, a masterpiece in harmonies. It's been covered by so many choral groups from high schools to professional choirs all over the world. It's well worth a reaction! Other suggestions: Be My Eyes (original), Coffee In Bed, (original), Happy Now (original), Come Along, Sing (original), New Rules/I Am That Somebody, Radioactive ( feat Lindsey Stirling).
Thanks for the great reaction to this awesome Pentatonix video of a medley of 7 songs by the duo named Daft Punk. Pentatonix has been singing this live on tour for years so you can find a lot of excellent live performances on RUclips. Pentatonix members are always amazing live.
And all they've done in 10 years is IMPROVE! Their other Grammys were for Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (no words) and Jolene, with Dolly Parton. You've probably been told they started by winning "The Sing Off" in 2011. With such a large catalog, you will be saying WTF for a Looonngg time! LOL Great reaction, guys!
For anyone looking, here is the link to that performance. You may need to wear headphones to really pick up Avi's bass but it's there. ruclips.net/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/видео.htmlsi=DgmZlY4fHwghBBqQ
Okay, sometimes it's hard to tell what's going on, but the rhythm section actually has two parts: percussion and bass. Kevin does percussion, Avi does bass, so when you see Avi moving his lips in time with the percussion, he's providing the bass component of the drum sounds. The other thing that's easy to miss is that Avi is the one who primarily makes the whooshing sounds in this. SOME of those may be Kevin, but I don't think so; most or all of them come from Avi.
Definitely check out their cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody", as well as their second grammy winner, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (a song without words, but a group without instruments).
the live version id great but I find the pre-gig in the green room to be even more flabbergasting. No amp, no microphone and everything sounds so good . Of course Avi's voice being so low and deep needs amplification to sound even better but it is crazy how good they sound!
CAME UPON YOUR CHANNEL DUE TO PENTATONIX. THEY DO THIS LIVE TO. THERE ARE VIDEO'S ON RUclips. 1 PRIVATE ONE IN A ROOM AND ON STAGE. TX FOR THIS YOU ARE APPRECIATED. GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA
Great reaction, they are all badass in this. Won a Grammy. If you have any residual “no way” vibes they perform this live. I suggest Hollywood Bowl 2022 OR they did a Private Performance to fulfill a Make A Wish wish. That 2nd one is off mic, recorded by a fan there with a phone or I pad. And yes, Mitch can make that electronic sound with his voice. Remember in Bohemian Rhapsody fans said he didn’t need the megaphone. Great reaction! They are so good they can sing like a skipped record and really mix themselves. Kevin is a beast and can beatbox entire concerts live ❤❤❤❤❤
If you like this one, check out Love Again. It's an original written by I believe Avi and Kevin with some input from Mitch about the vocals. It's got the same EDM beat and the outfits are outrageous (in a good way lol). It's probably one of my all time favorite songs of theirs!
They definitely do this live. Love Again (original) is 🔥as well. Can’t Hold Us cover and 90’s Dance Medley are 🤯, too. Many of us do think they are part 👽. Your comment “They make talented people feel bad” was spot on and made me laugh. Keep going with reactions to them; you will not regret a moment of it.
Enjoyed your reaction - I've seen them do this live and it's just as good - Bohemian Rhapsody is another great cover - "Kiss From a Rose" is another great one - but they are all super.
Try Problem, Kiira's Gold, Bohemian Rhapsody, Mad World, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, 90s Dance Medley & Can't Hold Us.............and that's just for starts!!
This is SUCH a great musical rabbithole - if you want the most FUN JOURNEY, I recommend watching ALL of Pentatonix's episodes on the reality show "The Sing Off" (it's Series/Season 3), which is an all-acapella show of teams musically competeing against one another, kinda like 'The Voice'. In that show, they have to remix and cover of MANY well known songs, and it is SO. MUCH. 🔥F🔥I🔥R🔥E🔥! - ALL the way through, that it is a MUST see... it's also their beginnings/origin story as a group, so you GOT to check that out, for sure!
Yep...this one goes in my PTX Reactions playlist! Thanks, guys! Very entertaining. They're absolutely incredible. 90's Dance Medley, Bohemian Rhapsody, Love Again (one of their originals), Sing (another original), Somebody That I Used to Love, The Prayer, Amazing Grace, etc. I know it's not that time of year, but they released the most s-t-u-n-n-i-n-g version of O' Holy Night I have ever heard.
If you haven’t already seen their version of Bohemian Rhapsody, you need to check that out. But yeah, Love Again is another EDM song they do (doesn’t get enough love imo) but it’s a PTX original. Loved the reaction. Always cool seeing new folks react to PTX ❤
The arrangement of the medley is, just by itself SUCH an amazing arrangement! Which songs came before or after which others, how they overlapped and re-mixed and flipped from one to the other so seamlessly is amazing. Then the arrangement of the vocals, playing to the strengths of each member of the group to create the harmonies, sounds, depths, heights, overtones, everything so "them." Then the video: the relatively simple set up: stare into the camera and sing. But the creative use of contacts, makeup, lighting, glowing wires and fog, and the way those singing heads were edited together! So awesome. Such creative energy!!
It is completely real. I have seen them 4 times and they are even better live. Do yourself a favor and watch everything they have done, they do not ever disappoint.
this was very early in their history, They have been together since 2011, still creating and putting out new and amazing stuff. There was one change in the group in 2017, their bass, guy with the braided hair (Avi), left the group due to stresses of keeping up with the group and family situation. A new bass (Matt) joined the group in 2018. Just something to keep in mind when reacting to their stuff.
There is a backstage version of this song they did for Make a Wish filmed on like a cell phone. No tune or balancing but it is all there and it is amazing. As raw as it can get.
I’d love to see you guys check out a live video - “Evolution of Beyoncé” and “Gold” both have live official videos and they’re fantastic! Great reaction ❤
They are absolutely FIRE live, have seen them twice!! If you ever see them come near you it is DEFINATELY worth it. They're absolutely nuts...welcome to the Pentatonix rabbit hole boys, hold on because they have SOOOO many incredible songs that they do, collaborations with awesome singers and musicians...your in for one helluva ride!!!
After watching you guys for quite some time, this is definitely the most mesmerized/quiet I've seen you guys 😂 Pentatonix is the GOAT. I was a Music major in college 2011-2014, so was obsESSED with listening to them on repeat, analyzing & appreciating every single members' parts. It's truly insane how they arrange these songs & sound so full & complete with just their voices. Absolutely amazing.
😂😂😂😂😂Oh I do love to see people realising how freakin brilliant Pentatonix are! They got their first Grammy for this, if you think this is awesome, go down the Pentaholic rabbit hole. Check out Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, Blinding Lights, Sound of Silence! Kevin the Beatboxer is unreal and honestly can’t be human, you’ll see that for real in Blinding Lights 😮
Ok, you guys had the best reaction to this video I have ever seen. To answer one thing for you guys, YES, they do really sound like this. I have seen them 4 times in concert and it is just amazing what they sound like. They won their 1st Grammy for this song/video. You need to find a live version of this. This my friends is what you call REAL TALENT!!!!!!
I've seen them live 3 times- they are EVEN.BETTER.LIVE... they have 4 grammy's by the way.... ;) and a star on the hollywood walk of fame. They are PHENOMENAL artists..... and even better friends!
You guys have got to watch their performances on the sing off that they did. It was all their voices only and literally and they did so unbelievably amazing!!!
They are so amazing. I could listen to them all day. Yes you should watch some of their live videos. My favorite is "Joyful Joyful" Live from the evergreen experience. I look forward to more of your reactions.
If you hope to do more Pentatonix reactions, and I think you probably do, you will probably run afoul of the copyright police if you haven't already. Pentatonix as a band loves reactors, but their recording company does not. So you should probably plan on disguising the video some what. There is never a problem with the audio, but for some reason they don't like the videos to be shown. So figure out what you want to do. You can play with the transparency or you can put a large watermark over the video or some combination thereof. Don't worry that we can't see the video. In most cases we Pentaholics have seen the video tens if not hundreds of times. What we're looking for is your reaction. And this was a good one! I have subscribed to see more Pentatonix! Have fun traveling down this absolutely amazing rabbit hole! Cheers!
We definitely will be doing more. We deal with the copyright police a lot. We will keep that in mind. We hope you continue to enjoy our reactions and thank you for your support 😎😎
On The Sing Off, Ben Folds talks about Kevin's abilities as a beat boxer. He's able to do reverse snares. Shawn Stockman compared him to Will I Am on the soundboard. He's an accomplished cellist. He cello-boxes. That's how Scott found him on RUclips. He asked him to come out to try out for the Sign Off with them. He was planning to go to med school at Yale. Avi is trained classical bass. He trained in opera. He can get some crazy low notes. He can mimic bad guitars and sounds. He does a lot of overtones you hear in Daft Punk. Shawn Stockman from the Sing off called them "Meat and Potatoes." Without them, no matter how beautiful they sounded and talented Scott, Kirsten, and Mitch were, they couldn't succeed. Watch the Sing Off. I think a RUclipsr Chichadee had just their songs compiled. Since then, Avi has left due to family reasons. The constant travel was to hard on him. They brought on Matt Salle. He's different than Avi. He doesn't have as rich of deep bass but he can pick up much more beat boxing. He's also matches the groups playfulness well.
Great reaction. Thank u. They perform this song regularly in their concerts. The Super Bowl 2022 concert is a good video. They also performed this live at a private performance for the Make A Wish in a room next to a bathroom. No mikes. Filmed with a handlooms.
Since the Daft Punk medley is one of PTX's most popular videos (second only to Hallelujah), they perform it at virtually every concert that's not on one of their Christmas tours. One of the best recordings of it (because it was being live-streamed) is from the September 2022 Hollywood Bowl concert - here's the link: ruclips.net/video/a8PZ7_KMGM4/видео.html Keep in mind that this was the first concert of the season for them, since Kirstie was pregnant with her first child when they finished their 2021 Christmas tour, and they didn't tour again until after she had her baby - which was just 3 months prior to this concert taking place!
"He can't be doing that." -- Yes, actually, he can. May I suggest you check out Avi Kaplan's solo song "Change on the Rise". As well as everything else he did solo.
The original Bassist there Avi can do what is called Overtone singing along with making some other interesting sounds while doing bass notes. But on their first tour after this came out, they opened with this and it was the sickest opener ever and the crowd was so hyped after it. They are awesome! And new bassist Matt is just as awesome as Avi with possibly a larger range which is crazy.
Amazing reaction guys! If you want to truly be blown away by Pentatonix, I highly recommend you check out their 90's dance medley! You will lose your shit over it!
This was their most played video. Avi (bass) did leave the group years ago. Their new bass is awesome too. And it is definitely real. I have seen them live 4 times and one of those was a vip private performance with no electronics at all, not even mics. Kevin (percussion) also sings and plays chello while beat boxing at the SAME TIME! And in concert, he does it alone on stage while the rest go offstage and breathe. If you guys haven't heard their Christmas songs, you are missing out cuz they are the best Christmas music you will ever hear. MARY, DID YOU KNOW literally has me tearing up when they hit the bridge.. every time I see it. You guys should do a holiday series of their stuff. You won't be sorry. And almost all the time, the highest note you hear is actually Mitch (brown hair), not Kirstie.
This video put them on the map. I remember it sitting in my recommended feed for days, and I stubbornly refused to watch it. But when I finally did, needless to say my mind was blown 🤯
They won grammy for this video. It was filmed in a closet and a kitchen and it cost the $400. THey won there first Grammy!!!
They won a Grammy for the arrangement of this piece, not the video. And yes, it was their first.
Kevin and avi was such a beautiful combination ❤😢
the Grammy is for the arrangement
Search their”private performance “ of this and you will see them do this live, no mics, no production and it sounds the same! They are amazing
Yeah, they're absolutely amazing. Just... Plain and simple. Supremely talented vocalists, all of them.
100% SHOULD CHECK THAT OUT. It's crazy how good they are just singing in a greenroom.
I've seen them live. The video is just production. I'm sure there is some sound edits in the vid.....but damn, it's pretty farking close to live. To my uneducated ear? Can't tell the difference between this and "in person".
Avi Kaplan the god of the bassist, so talented, he can even do overtones and all. That duo, the beatbox and the bass were gold.
Avi & Kevin are referred to as "meat & potatoes".
@@annefox926 they are great. That was prime pentatonix

5 Grammy nominations, 3 Grammy awards, multi platinum, over 350 covers and original songs. Check out their live performance of ‘Kiss from a Rose’, VEVO studio and prepare yourself to be mind blown.
They also were on the Masked Singer television show….crazy good.
Forgot Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
Was just about to point this out!
I definitely thought they should have gotten farther on Masked Singer.
I wish they had won a Grammy for their cover of the Prayer. It's incredible.
90s Dance Medley and Can't Hold Us are equally MYSTIFYING! Great Rxn!
Yeah 'Can't hold us' is a favorite of mine too
Recommend Bohemian Rhapsody and Sound of Silence.
definitely Sound if Silence 🎉
I love Pentatonix. I love your shocked look 😳 & 🤯… the reaction was amazing. These artists are just Incredible. Thanks for sharing your review of this A Capella Group. I would recommend 90’s Medley. 🎧🎼💫🎶🙌🏽

So happy that you did this!!! You reacting to theses helps me out. Between the three of us we will have lots of Pentatonix requests. 🥰😂🤗
You can check out their “Daft Punk Off Mic” performance. It’s literally just them in a green room filmed with a cell phone and they sound incredible

He's also matches the groups playfulness well.
react to more pentatonix
Love you guys!! Just subbed for more Pentatonix ❤
Great reaction. Thank u. They perform this song regularly in their concerts. The Super Bowl 2022 concert is a good video.
They also performed this live at a private performance for the Make A Wish in a room next to a bathroom. No mikes. Filmed with a handlooms.
Yes - there is a way… I’ve seen them live twice and the sound is just the same as the video. Awesome!
My favorite beatboxer. If you like cello and want to see more of Kevin Olusola, I recommend his solo performance of Marian Hill's song Down.
Since the Daft Punk medley is one of PTX's most popular videos (second only to Hallelujah), they perform it at virtually every concert that's not on one of their Christmas tours. One of the best recordings of it (because it was being live-streamed) is from the September 2022 Hollywood Bowl concert - here's the link: ruclips.net/video/a8PZ7_KMGM4/видео.html
Keep in mind that this was the first concert of the season for them, since Kirstie was pregnant with her first child when they finished their 2021 Christmas tour, and they didn't tour again until after she had her baby - which was just 3 months prior to this concert taking place!
I love the joy of ppl discovering this ❤ and they kill this LIVE!
Great reaction! Can't wait to see you guys react to Bohemian Rhapsody!!
They're real and they're spectacular!!
Great Reaction!!!! You have a New Subscriber because of your Pentatonix Reactions!!!! You'll be a Pentaholic Soon!!!!
i've heard this live in concert and they're just so good it's unreal
They are just amazing live!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve seen them do this song live 3 times and each was better than the previous only band I’ve seen that’s 110% better live 💙
Get a peek of the other acapella groups: Voiceplay, Home Free, Bass Gang, to name a few. All amazing.
Love the reaction, thank you. 😊
Yes they do that all the time ❤
Welcome
Seen them 2xs boys and you talk @ AMAZING OMG IM HOPING TO MAKE IT #3 THIS YEAR !IF YOU EVER GET A CHANCE GO SEE THEM !!!
I saw them perform this live. They were phenomenal.
This video put them on the map. I remember it sitting in my recommended feed for days, and I stubbornly refused to watch it. But when I finally did, needless to say my mind was blown 🤯
