Kevin is the beatboxer and you are correct; he was unable to tolerate the contacts. From how red his eyes were it appears that Avi (the bass) was also having some problems with them, but managed anyway. The trio seem to have managed with no trouble. You're also correct about this being a medley; it incorporates seven Daft Punk songs. The audio was recorded in a closet (it had good acoustics). The video was recorded at their makeup artist's kitchen table. Their budget was around $400, most of which went for makeup (presumably including the contacts), one ring light, and professional editing. This won them their first Grammy, for Best Arrangement Instrumental or A Cappella; Ben Bram (sometimes known as "the sixth member of Pentatonix") was also credited as an arranger, so he shared the Grammy with them. Before Pentatonix's "Daft Punk Medley" came out NARAL had no categories for a cappella; they had to change the category name from "Best Arrangement Instrumental" to "Best Arrangement Instrumental or A Cappella" just so Pentatonix could be *nominated,* let alone win. Their second Grammy, for "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy," was in the same category. Their third Grammy, which they shared with Dolly Parton, was for their collaboration with Dolly (she was 71 at the time) on her iconic song "Jolene." The category was Best Country Duo/Group Performance. It was the first time *Dolly Parton* had won a Grammy for Jolene!
♥ I've been waiting for this one! You'll love their original song, Love Again. This is a mashup of Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, Television Rules the Nation, and Around the World.
As others have said, they filmed this in a closet, and won their first Grammy with this. I also recommend their cover of Sound of Silence and Imagine. They're also really good!
Considering your reaction each time Avi sings you have to listen to his solo music sometime! He’s got a gorgeous live recording for 7Layers of his original All is well, just him and a guitar and it’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard!
Yes Kevin could not wear the contacts, so these cool glasses were provided to him, Avi the bass singer also had a hard time with the contacts his eyes are slightly red. Great reaction as always! try another one of their grammy award winning music "Jolene with Dolly Parton or Dance of the Sugar plum fairies" Thanks!
Done in a closet and kitchen at Mitch’s house I believe, and it cost about $400! They won a GRAMMY for this! Run To You, mentioned by Avi, is an original of theirs written by Avi and Kevin (the beat boxer), so beautiful and heartbreaking, please watch ❤. Happy Valentines Day❤❤❤
Currently, Pentatonix will each record their individual tracks independently in the studio (once they've come up with the arrangement, of course). Those will be edited together; I forget the name of their editor - not Ben Bram, someone else. Then for their official video they'll all sing together, but the actual audio will be the studio recording - by actually singing when they make the video they can lip-synch to the studio recording in a more genuine manner; everyone is in proper time, their lips, tongues, and hands are moving the way they normally do while singing, etc.. For this one it's less clear. I'm pretty sure they recorded the audio individually; I don't know how big that closet was but doing it all together sounds distinctly crowded. But it appears that they also recorded the video separately, since they only bought one ring light and we see it behind each of them. Remember, this was *very* early in their career; they were still working things out and they didn't own their own studio. In 2014 the trio would have been 21 or 22; Avi would have been 24 or 25; and Kevin would probably have been 25 as well, depending on how early in the year they recorded this. Now, timing is very important, always, for group singing. When recording separately it is absolutely essential that everyone get that right. Currently they use some kind of ear bud device that gives them a click beat, like a metronome, to keep them in time with each other, but I can't imagine that they had that back then. If you see videos where they're asked to improvise something on the spot they'll start by asking Kevin to give them some rhythm and they'll then work from there. So my *guess* would be that they had Kevin record his track first, and then were using ear phones to listen to it while they each sang their individual tracks. The only problem with this theory (and I emphasize that I'm guessing here) is that the ear phones in question would have had to be the kind that let you hear everything around you, because otherwise the singer would hear her or himself only through bone conduction, and that's a really good way to sing out of tune. This is why people wearing headphones and singing along to the music they're listening to generally sound horrible. Choir singers are taught that if they need to hear themselves better they shouldn't do it by sticking a finger in an ear but by cupping a hand over the ear; that way they can hear themselves by both air conduction and bone conduction.
The Sing Off had their teeth whitened for the show. After they lost the recording contract, they thanked the Sing Off for their pearly whites. If you want to watch their Michael Jackson Medley, you can see the whole thing done in 1 take.
I consider this one a mandatory stop on the PTX journey. I know how you felt when you just couldn't find the words. Be sure to watch some of their live performances because many of them are excellent in showing the bare talent of the group.
By your reaction, I’m pretty sure that you’re a member of the family of Pentaholix at this point. As such, we welcome you and we will help guide you through your journey. A true masterpiece of arranging and visual artistry is their cover of My Favorite Things. Also, check out the originals like Coffee in Bed or Be My Eyes. Enjoy!❤
Thanks for your reaction. It's always fun watching someone just discovering how talented and entertaining this group is. You have a lot to discover down this rabbit hole. BTW, yes, it is a Daft Punk medley...in this case a mix of 7 songs: Technologic; One More Time; Get Lucky; Digital Love; Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger; Television; and Round the World (most people miss this the first time - it's sung by Kirstie underneath Avi when he sings "Television", and again in the final moments).
Great reaction! They are fantastic. Please react to (the bass) Avi Kaplans solo stuff so good. Would recommend Change on the rise. You won't be disappointed.
The actual Daft Punk video for "One More Time" was animated with the band members being blue cartoon characters . Years before Avatar. I've never heard Pentatonix explain the blue contacts, but I'm guessing it was an homage to that video. And if you never have seen Daft Punk, it's a French duo that wore robot looking helmets. Unable to wear the contacts, Kevin's eye gear most likely is another tribute to the original band members.
The reason why Kevin (pretty sure it's Kevin) is wearing glasses is that he couldn't wear the contacts they were using. So they found some technoflash sunglasses for him to keep the look.
ok...we know you love MJ and Pentatonix so get to their MJ evolution video! Don't skip over that one! & loving the visuals and clothing choices as I know you do, you gotta see the PTX video Can't Sleep Love! You grew up singing in your church I think...(I did also)! Yes, it's a medley of Daft Punk songs. Yes, Kevin couldn't wear the contacts so he has the glasses. If you look at Avi (the bass singer) you can tell he struggled with them. You can see how red his eyes are.
Kevin is not human. It is also important to keep in mind with these guys that at this point in their career, they were doing EVERYTHING. Video design, make up, costumes, arrangements. It was all on them, and for the most part, they have not deviated away from their signature style, so generally speaking, everything you see with them is from their heart and soul. They are truly an anomaly. This is one of the deepest rabbit holes on RUclips, so I will just tell ya to pick anything. They don't don't anything that isn't impressive as hell. This medley won them their first Grammy, and they literally needed to create a category for them. There was never an A Capella category until PTX came along!
I absolutely loved everything about your reaction to this one. You were right on the money about Kevin and the contacts. He just couldn’t tolerate them so they found cool shades for him. (And Avi’s eyes are red throughout, so it wasn’t easy for him either.) you can see similar energy in their Can’t Hold Us video and their original Sing. As others have said, their 90s Dance Medley will have you bopping along too. Thanks for this one, now go blow dry your sweaty ears and have a good nap! Peace from Ohio …
Maybe helps a bit...😊 Pentatonix Pentatonix has won three Grammy Awards: they were the first a cappella act to win Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella, doing so in 2015 and 2016, ... Past members: Avi Kaplan Members: Mitch Grassi;(high voice) Kirstin Maldonado; Scott Hoying;(tall blonde) Kevin Olusola(beat boxer); Matt Sallee (new bass) Origin: Arlington, Texas, U.S Total views: 5.9+ billion
Yes a group. Watching you get opened up to these artist has to be a bit overwhelming sometimes, I'm sure. But you seem to have the openness and grit to muscle through with a loving and fun curiosity.
great react :) the Daft Punk song with Pharrell and the one that Kanye sampled and the others...so COOL...and these guys do something otherworldly with it
If you want to see something amazing, please react to Pentatonix singing Dance of The Sugar Plum Ferries (2nd Grammy) Daft Punk they received their 1st Grammy The also got their 3rd Grammy for “Jolene” featuring Dolly Parton

you think this is good, check out their 90s dance medley. Also yes these are all Daft Punk songs. Many of them have been used in music today like Kanye West's song Stronger. Daft Punk has been around since the early-mid 90s. They were a French duo, who just recently retired. ALSO, this video was filmed and recorded in a closet of one of the PTX members. Again check out 90s dance medley, if you are a fan of 90s dance (which I am guessing you are). Check it out, it is fire. You have the day you deserve. Peace P.S. BTW, you are right, the reason Kevin is wearing glasses is because the contacts were irritating his eyes.
Pentatonix does not produce any music that they cannot perform LIVE. So, there are no special effects other than their voices working as a group. BTW, Pentatonix won a Grammy for this song.
Given your reaction to Avi's (Bass) parts, you may want to check out his solo stuff. It's a lot more Folk than most of his work with Pentatonix, but definitely still great stuff. (He left the group, amicably, in 2017.) I recommend 'Tumbleweed', 'Other Side', 'The Summit', and 'Change on the Rise', which has been described as "if testosterone was a song." 😁👍
Great reaction Please react to voiceplay too it s an another great a capella group I already suggest this group please I recommend you voiceplay Metallica Nothings else matters please 🙏🙏🙏
If you haven't already done it, I recommend reacting to Home Free w/Avi Kaplan of Pentatonix (the deep voice in the ski cap) doing their version of "Ring of Fire". You still have to remember, no instruments on that one either. I agree with a lot of the other fans' comments on PTX songs that you still need to react to, like Sound of Silence (I saw the one you did on Disturbed's version, which is awesome, but their version is, well, different). I'd also like to see you react to their version of "Havana".
Baby, I am solid chair dancing with you. I would love to react to stuff with you. I love your react videos. You actually respect the song without walking all over it to get viewers. I watched him to do it for a three hour live concert and he even played the cello at the same time.
Hi Britt. You can't go wrong with anything PTX does but "The Evolution Of Michael Jackson" is one of my favs. Hallelujah and Sound Of Silence are also very good. Keep making good choices of content. Great work.
Gotta love Pentatonix but if you're curious some other well known acapella groups to check out are: Home Free, Voice Play, and Voctave. There are also artists like Peter Hollens who do acapella layering, where they cover all the beat boxing and vocals from just one person.
The story behind is interesting, they had their studio cancel at the last minute so this was recorded in Avi's closet for a total sum of about $400.00 And they won a grammy with this one.
Avi collaborated with Peter Hollens, the RUclips god of layering. In "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair" the two of them are a full chorus. I'm guessing you won't be the first female reactor to not cry.
This is one of my favorites from Pentatonix. They did another one very similar to this, called "Love Again," but it's an original, not a cover. Citizen Queen is an all-girl acapella group like Pentatonix. You should check them out.
This is indeed a masterpiece! There is a reason they won a Grammy for this. So glad you got to hear this. So, going out on a lomb with this recommendation: If you javelin ever listened to Rage Against the Machine (if it isn't to explicit for you), there is a cover band called Brass Against that will blow your mind! ruclips.net/video/bGV1xYJFAEI/видео.html
To answer one of your questions: Daft Punk was a French duo who specialized in electro-pop music. Yes, your guess IS correct - a Daft Punk medley based on seven different songs. Yes, Kevin's eyes didn't tolerate the contacts. Avi (bass singer, dark beard) had trouble with them, too. His eyes are clearly bloodshot. If you like medleys, try their "90's Dance Medley" - which is mind-blowing. But they REALLY show their power and versatility in "Bohemian Rhapsody" - the Queen song. When you look at their videos, you might find it fun to look at their video "hit count." It will tell you just how popular they are.
"How can you not dance?" I've never been a dancer, and I still "dance" in my seat to this song. My hands moving like I think I'm a music conductor or something. Pen has ALWAYS had some amazing songs, both mainstream and more obscure. I love their song "Aha!", although that is partially because I love the original by Imogen Heap. Too bad they decided to cut the end of the original, but the rest is great. (In the original, it is implied/stated that the singer will overlook murder if you pay them. There is a reason they sang it on Halloween)
Daft Punk are amazing. Even if dance music isn't your thing, still gotta respect them. I mean, hell, they essentially were one of the few pioneers in House music that came up with their own Genre of music (they, along with a few other artists, made what is now known as Retrowave & Synthwave). Both Guy & Thomas never let their fame go to their heads. They wore the masks on stage because they NEVER wanted it to be about them, it was all about the music. They also always threw props to artists & DJs that came before them. On their first album, Homework, there's a song called "Teachers", and its just a simple groove & them naming off House DJs that set the stage for their style (and the first they name is the Legendary Chicago House DJ/Producer Paul Johnson, may he Rest In Power!). I mean, i AM biased, being a House music DJ (and also from Central IL, so went to MANY Chicago parties).
Brit I love ❤️ all the A CAPELLA Groups. Please consider reacting to CITIZEN QUEEN 👸🏻 an AMAZING girl group that has the ability to sing in every octave as well. I love that AVI KAPLAN was still in this INCREDIBLE Group at that time. He also does SOLO MUSIC. Great 👍🏽 REACTION.
I've watched a ton of your reactions....this is the first one I ever watched where you stuttered, regrouped, and said.... "my ears are sweating!" Girl...that's the truest reaction I've ever seen! LOL! You rock!
I have vision problems. Unfortunately for me, because of allergies, I can't wear them. On the other hand, as I've gotten older, and since I'm retired, I don't have much need for them, or even glasses, any more. Would glasses help, yes, probably, however they are not critical. This is one of my most favorite videos from Pentatonix. Fan for years and I would recommend anything they do.
Glad to have subscribed for you. Enjoy ALL of PTX. The bass here is Avi- he left the group but he’s amazing on his own. Mitch, Scott, and Kirstie have been singing together since high school. Kevin the best box is a tenor and plays the cello. They have one ?3 Grammys and this was one. Welcome to the PTX rabbit hole 🕳️ oh and yes! They have many melodies that mix songs from sane person group etc
This Acapella group is the best, you’ll ever hear. Also yes Kevin couldn’t wear the contacts, they irritated his eyes, hence the classes. 😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤🇬🇧🇬🇧👏🏉🏉

All the time I'm so unhappy that Avi leaved PTX. His bass notes are so WOW. Yeah, Matt makes a great job. But both guys have different voices. Than I heared the songs of Avi. But there fail the voices of PTX. It's crazy.
Yep Kevin couldn't wear them. PTX on how to win a Grammy on 400 dollars LOL. They are such a joy, and this was a great reaction. Keep up the great work! Run To You is an amazing 5 part harmony. They allowed cameras behind the scene during recording of last years Evergreen. It's a wonderful look behind the scenes at how they work. The Evergreen experience ' i think.
There are so many amazing sounds and effects and harmonies in this... there's a reason they won their first Grammy for it. But if all that doesn't sell you on the greatness of PTX, there's this: They literally mimicked auto-tune in the middle of the song.... with just voices.... AUTOTUNE. That is all.
There are 7 songs from the French EDM duo Daft Punk in this mashup: Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder-Better-Faster-Stronger, Television Rules the Nation, and Around the World - although the last is only sung by Kirstin during Avi's solo in Television Rules the Nation, and in the final mashup of all of the songs. 06:10 Britt.exe has stopped functioning.
I love your reactions. So much energy and genuine reactive feeling.
Look for Ring of fire - Home Free feat. Avi Kaplan (formally from Pentatonix)
Maybe helps a bit...😊
Pentatonix
Pentatonix has won three Grammy Awards: they were the first a cappella act to win Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella, doing so in 2015 and 2016, ...
Past members: Avi Kaplan
Members: Mitch Grassi;(high voice) Kirstin Maldonado; Scott Hoying;(tall blonde) Kevin Olusola(beat boxer); Matt Sallee (new bass)
Origin: Arlington, Texas, U.S
Total views: 5.9+ billion
Won a Grammy. No wonder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Loved your reaction!!!!!
Yes a group. Watching you get opened up to these artist has to be a bit overwhelming sometimes, I'm sure. But you seem to have the openness and grit to muscle through with a loving and fun curiosity.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 .... yeah Britt !!!! - yeah yeah yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh .. uh huhhh !! Way to bring some Pentatonix magic !! .... 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 ... great choice ❄️❄️🇺🇲🎈🇺🇲❄️❄️
great react :) the Daft Punk song with Pharrell and the one that Kanye sampled and the others...so COOL...and these guys do something otherworldly with it
They absolutely crushed this, Daft Punk was the stuff back in the 90’s!!👊💥💥💥🔥
If you want to see something amazing, please react to Pentatonix singing
Dance of The Sugar Plum Ferries (2nd Grammy)
Daft Punk they received their 1st Grammy
The also got their 3rd Grammy for “Jolene” featuring Dolly Parton
My shoulders are twitching but I’m wrapped up in blankets like a burrito so I’m not dancing along.😀

you think this is good, check out their 90s dance medley. Peace
For more like this: PTX „90ies Dance Medley“!
you need to react to morisette gustp ka na bumitaw and I am telling you......seriously. to hell with every one else listen to her
Yes it is a mashup of Daft Punk songs. Listen next to the "90's Dance Medley."
You should check out Home Free's Butts Remix. I bet you'd get a kick out of it.
Given your reaction to Avi's (Bass) parts, you may want to check out his solo stuff. It's a lot more Folk than most of his work with Pentatonix, but definitely still great stuff. (He left the group, amicably, in 2017.)
I recommend 'Tumbleweed', 'Other Side', 'The Summit', and 'Change on the Rise', which has been described as "if testosterone was a song." 😁👍
Great reaction
Please react to voiceplay too it s an another great a capella group
I already suggest this group please
I recommend you voiceplay Metallica Nothings else matters please 🙏🙏🙏
the answer to why im not moving with is simple. Though i would like too, i was cursed with white rythym unfortunately .
That guys bass voice proves how bass is the best part of the song. I love it
I absolutely love seeing the joy you felt seeing and hearing this! I love this video and ther mix of Daft Punk's songs.
😆 she had an eargasm.
😘
And the hit reactions just keep on comin'!!!!!
So, going out on a lomb with this recommendation:
If you javelin ever listened to Rage Against the Machine (if it isn't to explicit for you), there is a cover band called Brass Against that will blow your mind!

SERIOUSLY, check out their cover of Can't Hold Us!!!!US!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It's good at some points, but bad at others. Daft Punk did them ALL better, harder, faster, STRONGER!!!
Avi mentioned the sheet music for "Run To You." That would be a great next song to react to.
I am 54 you are not that old
kevin and avi are insane when they do the beat together i love that
Please youtube do not recommend me more of PENTATONIX!!!! Im fed up with it!!
YES!! Love Daft Punk, and also love this rendition. Get it girl!!
Here's some more you Gotta check out!
Wizard of Aaahs ft Todrik Hall, Problem, Can't Hold Us, Mary Did You Know, Sound of Silence! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🐢
If they could cover 'aerodynamic', that would be impressive
You should react to one of their original songs... ruclips.net/video/F80FsZDTgn0/видео.html Enjoy!
they made this with $400.00 in a closet and kitchen ..... won a Grammy for it ..... look it up
Brit I love ❤️ all the A CAPELLA Groups.
And now, for something truly different, you might try another acapella group - Hiss, Alexinho, Colaps, River' - If only (Official Video).
Your expression watching this video…priceless!🎶🎶
Their harmonies are NOT. FROM. THIS. PLANET.
This Acapella group is the best, you’ll ever hear. Also yes Kevin couldn’t wear the contacts, they irritated his eyes, hence the classes. 😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤🇬🇧🇬🇧👏🏉🏉
Daft Punk's album "Discovery" is perfect. It's in my and many others top 10 albums ever. It's worth a listen.
Great job Britt, everytime!
PTX must came from any outworld just to flex humanity, dont know...
Sound of Silence, Amazing Grace, Can’t Hold Us, Mad World, Evolution of Michael Jackson and their originals Love Again and Coffee in Bed for a start. 💜
Hey. There is channel that does side by side comparisons of Pentatonix covers with the originals. Check it out. I think you will enjoy it. Search Pentatonix Daft Punk Side by Side.
All the time I'm so unhappy that Avi leaved PTX. His bass notes are so WOW. Yeah, Matt makes a great job. But both guys have different voices. Than I heared the songs of Avi. But there fail the voices of PTX. It's crazy.
You will never regret reacting to Pentatonix! You NEED to react to Pentatonix: "love again" and "Run To You"
You got it. Apparently, Kevin couldn't stand the contacts, hence the space age sunglasses. Enjoyed your reaction.
But if all that doesn't sell you on the greatness of PTX, there's this:
They literally mimicked auto-tune in the middle of the song.... with just voices.... AUTOTUNE.
That is all.
3:47 me excited knowing whats coming 😂 excited for your excitement lol
There are 7 songs from the French EDM duo Daft Punk in this mashup: Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder-Better-Faster-Stronger, Television Rules the Nation, and Around the World - although the last is only sung by Kirstin during Avi's solo in Television Rules the Nation, and in the final mashup of all of the songs.
