      2kW.
      m=1kg, c=4.2kJ/kgK, dt=12K.
      m x c x dt = energy gained = 50.4kJ
      50.4kJ in 25 secs = 2kJ/sec = 2kW

    Nice job! I did the same with a 16mm spiral and got 120l/hr have now upgraded to a bigger pump with and get 1000l/hr 5c increase using 32mm black pipe. Fully automatic on/off. Our pool was up to temperature 30c by the end of April. The smaller setup just wasnt cutting it on a 25m! Pool. You can see the setup on my channel. Loved watching you building the pool as well. Great job.

    An easy way to realize how much it will help: consider the area of the solar absorber and compare it to the area of the pool. Now pretend you are adding extra sunlight area to the bigger area of the pool. A small sized-absorber won't add much heat to a large area pool. Yes the temperature of the undiluted, heated, water might be high, but the amount of that temperatured water is what counts (ie heat).

    The biggest issue with the solar heater is that the temperature of the sun is not optimal transferred to the water in the hose, if you would replace the hose with some metal piping, like copper or aluminum, the heat is better transferred.
    Second thing you could do is use a black cover for the pool when not used to get more heat from the sun in the water.

    Hello,
    great work! What would interest me is if you have problems with condensation water below the plexiglass? I have also built such a pool theater and am now considering whether or not to attach a plexiglass. I fear the formation of condensation water, which would then not be so great for the wood.

    I love in Florida, our pool however is at an angle that when 2pm hits there is a shadow in the pool. This means that by 4pm the pool is cool and in the darkness. I like the idea but for it to work on our pool we would have to scale it up by a factor of 5 to see any difference.

    Perhaps you should add a snap temperature thermostat to the inside of the thermal box, So it will only come on when it hits a certain temperature, and shut off when it's too cool. Additionally I'd have the water come out at the bottom of the pool. I've done a lot of thermal box experiments and they all work, but aren't a solo solution.

      hello Mohawk. I have a similar solar water collector but building it all with copper would have made it cost the same as a commercial panel, which would be much more efficient. If I had the funds, I'd buy a commercial solar panel and pay a plumber to fit it for sure. they are VERY efficient and well worth it.
      these solutions are for people with little income or plenty of time and spare materials. they are a low tech solution that includes more people in sustainable solutions. win win.

    Dont give up. Get a garden irrigation hose and for efficient heat transfer do not pick the thinnest nor the thickest type, then also get one tube of silicone, one way mirror foil fitting the plexi-glass dimension, glue spray, some aluminum foil roll long enough to cover the inner bottom and sides of the heater, and a cheap cartridge filter for those easy set above ground pools so you can hook the heatersystem up to your actual skimmer skipping all that ugly mess with the garden hose all over the place -might need T splitters and bypass valves mod to existing filter in order to prime the cheapo filter pump.
    Take the old hose out, silicone all the corners of the wooden frame and spray the wood with glue spray prior to application of aluminum foil shiny side up, matte to face wood on the bottom and sides.
    Cover plexiglass with adhesive mirror foil the way it'll be mirroring the hose inside and leave outer section that touches the frame free of the foil as it will be glued.
    Place the hose many DIYers use in with 5mm spacing between each new spool, make a simple comb-like brace for it if not feeling like re-drilling and re-knitting it all over again. Finally, considering the hose is free of defects, holes, kinks reducing water flow, run the silicone line over entire frame and place plexiglass over it to bond together. Ensure all the holes on the bottom and hose in/out-lets are also siliconed up to create 100% air seal chamber that will now serve as infinite mirror sun-light bounce-back heat trap chamber. Honestly, even 2 degree improvement with much stronger pump and water flow would be humongous success, but to really warm up your pool, you should follow this recipe with about 2x or even 4x the spool diameter you guys have made so far. Or re-create another piece which could be interlocked together and taken apart for easier winter storage. Less surface area of those heaters in windy conditions puts less stress and less chance of it flying away with the wind which is also a consideration to be kept in mind since these should rest on a risen stand or preferably roof.

    From what I've learned about solar heating a pool, it's always best to heat a lot of water a little, rather than heat a little water a lot. I ran a Y off my pool pumps return to my solar "system". It's still a work in progress...living in Wisconsin doesn't help.

    You should better use a black hose made of thin material rather then a rubber hose. Rubber is a good insulator. Or you buy a cheap solar pool heater with a larger surface made of thin plastic. The color is crucial for adsorbing light as heat. The pool will reflect most of the light unless you paint it black.

    counter intuitively running water faster (up to a point) through the house will yield more thermal energy into the pool. it wont be as hot at the end but the will move more energy into the pool .

    Had je niet beter toen je het zwembad weer ging vullen meteen die slang waar nu de waterpomp aan zit gewoon aan de kraan vastmaken en dan vult het hele zwembad zich met warm water inplaats van dat je nu een klein beetje warm water bij een grote hoeveelheid koud water doet dan duurt het nog wel heel lang zo hahah

    i am no expert but i would say you need 4mm irrigation pipe about 30m or so that will give you a much higher temprature..

    • @spencerwilton5831
      @spencerwilton5831 4 года назад

      stormcup That would be counterproductive. You actually want the water to flow quickly. Hot water picks up less heat from the collector. You need the cool pool water to keep moving through, keeping the difference in temperature between the air inside the panel and the water in the tube as big as possible- heat moves faster when there is a bigger temperature differential. Although the water going back to the pool will not be as hot, there will be much more of it, and overall it will contain more heat energy.

    The power you are using to pump the water is more than the power you are getting from the sun to heat the water. The pump you are using is making the water flow too fast and is not getting time to heat up.
    Try a 12v car battery with a solar panel and a 12v DC pump.

    Regular garden hose is too thick, instead use thin tyleen (pvc) hose so the water warms faster and put a small tap between the hose so you can regulate the water stream and let the water run slower out.

      Miroslav Valsorim Finally someone who understands how thermodynamics / temperature differentials work! So many of these videos are obsessed with getting very hot water, even if that means slowing the flow to a trickle. They don't understand you're trying to keep the coil as cool as possible, so it will pick up much more heat!
