What climbing method are you using and which stand do you use.
This video helped me. I live in Harlan Ky and it’s all mountains, very steep, very thick and the only edges are power lines going thru the mountains and old log roads out strip mining roads. With zero agriculture and very lil accessible edge areas here it just takes being mobile, knowing how to use the wind and thermals. Scouting all year round. The big mountains around here makes it harder to get in on mature bucks.
I'm in lee county just south over cumberland mtn.
With the old strip jobs or logged areas there are alot of edge,mountian laurel to open woods etc! Boy it's all steep all mtn in Harlan County though you ain't being!
I hunt,have hunted big mtn 2100ft n above all my life and the big mtn wood is tough.
I've recently discovered with slope angle the biggest buck I've ever seen and have on cam taking the easiest route up within a mile all directions gradual slope with logging road takes it in and out almost daily. Look for these saddle,gradual access points that crimp into funnel.

Love the content and also knowing that my friend Nathan Killen is going to be part of The Stickboys! If it can be done without giving up where a particular spot is at, show what you’re describing on a topo map. The bed, the east slope, South slope, North Slope, food source locations, wind direction, and then the stand site and access routes (morning and evening routes). Maybe even break down a successful hunt and why it worked with animations on a topo. I really believe a series like that would be extremely popular. Blur out creek and hollow names, any identifying information, but a lot of us mountain hunters like to see the “why it worked” stuff on a map combined with the view in the woods. Keep up the great work and I can’t wait to see the second install of Nathan doing his thing! CS

Enjoy the content. Sad to say I hadn’t heard of Nathan till now, but glad I discovered him in these videos. I do have a question? If it’s all big woods I understand coming in from blow bc of thermals, but if it’s AG fields below the deer will be in the fields so I always thought better to come in from the top? I understand thermals are still dropping before sunrise, but if you have to cross AG fields you’re spooking the deer feeding in the fields. How do you get around this scenario?
Great stuff .. I'm wondering how a fellas like Nathan for example or any other guy's, would of found their stand location in the dark before the Map/Phone existed ? I also wonder if a deer just like a dog can't smell your scent being pushed onto vegetation even if you don't touch anything.

I’m totally confused here. Nathan is saying that the thermals are dropping in the morning and rising in the afternoon. Everything I’ve ever read it’s the total opposite. Could you please elaborate on this?
Thermals are dropping early morning before the sun rises because of colder air dropping. As the sun heats the earth the air starts to rise. Think of a hot air Balloon 👍

I’m in WNC as well. Confined to public land at the moment but have had great success going where others aren’t willing to climb.
What would it take to get Nathan to come assist me in getting started on scouting an area of public I'm going to be hunting. I have been fortunate enough to hunt some of the best private land my whole life, but as things go nothing lasts forever and now I gotta resort to public land hunting. I'm in Rockingham Co. Va so it's not that far of a trip. I think it will be a FANTASTIC area if it can be figured out

I don't even shoot traditional but your content is relatable to me and the public mountains i hunt here in east Tn. Nathan is so full of knowledge and experience. I'm grateful that he is willing to share what he has learned. Looking forward to more podcast and videos.
