I've been wanting to make a 10 year comparison video for some time now and I can't think of a better set of Lexus cars than two of the sexiest one's made.
In this clip I cover the inside, outside, and under the hood of both coupes so you can have a first-person view of every detail!!!

Thank you for sharing your great video comparison. SC430 for life! I own a 2002 SC430 since 2003 when my wife and I were dating. The car now has 258K miles, looks and drives just as beautiful as the day I brought her home. I can honestly say this SC is an amazing, 19 years of ownership without experiencing any problems; such a "trouble free" car, I only spent for the cost of periodic maintenance and that's it. I'm driving a 2015 Bently Flying Spur now and still love to enjoy crusing in my SC weekly with my wife.

I have a RC-f , and start looking for sc430 as a second car. I looked at lc 500 when I got my rc, the LC is a GT car, but has really good performance, yet the first gen is not meant for long term owners, 2nd gen of the Lc 500 beefed up a lot places to make the car worth buying. this video is a complete joke. the RCs are not bad looking cars, problem is it's 3 cars cut and weld together to make a old school sports car. in a world of turbo chargers, you have to give credit to lexus for doing the beautiful yamaha V8. he compared top of the line GT car with a entry level sports car 10 years later, what is compared? I don't know. LC500 vs sc430, now that's a good story. if you want a RC, then bring the big gun RC-F. there is no point buying the RC350 or 200t, because one day when a RC-f pulled alone side your RC200t, you will fell hopeless and embarrassed.

I own a SC430 so I am going to show bias here. I think most of the newer model designs (starting with the Acura TL) look like transformer toys. As pointed out in the video, the RC200 has sharp , straight lines. Additionally, all of the newer Lexus models have the same basic grill design - very homogeneous. My 2005 SC430 has 300 HP, smooth, power to spare and very quiet - even with the top down. A keeper.
Enjoyed the video - fair comparison.

@@brucelee9941 Highly recommend you get the 2006 and up years. Front end with headlights are newer with different lower bumper cover and rear LED tail lights - looks sharper. Also you will get the 6 speed transmission. All years put out 300hp though 2006 and up are reported at 288hp, they were rated differently using a method most other manufacturers do not really use. I think it was due to a dumb lawsuit with the LS430 if I remember correctly.. The models with the 5 speed are a pinch quicker from 0-30 but 0-60 and up are definitely faster and very noticeable - I have driven almost all the years, and my 2006 is getting modified quite a bit.

  • @SpiderCollector000
    @SpiderCollector000 2 года назад +2

Fun fact that most people do not realize - At the time, the SC430 and the LS430 were the top models, and most luxurious, and also the most expensive.
I have a modified blue 2006 that is my toy (and currently in the middle of further mods), and building an SCF by building a 5.2 engine out of the extra 4.3 engine from my parts car which is my silver 2009 that got totaled a while back. With all the mods completed, it will be a true Japanese Porsche, and will likely hang with, if not out-perform the newer GSF and ISF, along with the LC500.
The 2006 and up models are the best and also worth the most. They have the 6 speed transmission that is sealed with no dipstick, and its pretty bulletproof as long as you do not push it much over 400hp, and then it will slip. The stock internals in the 4.3 are not good to go much over 400hp reliably if you are to put a turbo on one while its stock. The rods are skinny, and a common mod is to use the earlier 90's rods from the 1UZ 4.0 engine which are much beefier and people are running turbo setups with easily 600+ hp.
Another thing.. these cars all have 300hp actually. For 2005 and under they are rated at 300hp and for 2006 and up they rated it differently due to a stupid lawsuit over the LS430, but they all make the same exact power. There is a delay when you hit the gas, and the car has a VERY conservative tune, with the transmission setup to make you think its not a V8 engine.
If you get one of these, I HIGHLY recommend getting a 2800 stall torque converter sold by Lextreme and the transmission pressure mod done which allows it to shift firmly, an aftermarket B&M trans cooler to bypass the one in the radiator, a decent exhaust, and a tuned remapped ECU from Quantum (in Northern CA) that gets rid of the ridiculous lag when you step on the gas and takes full advantage of the VVTi system properly, and turns it into a different beast. Just doing these mods makes the car take off with very sharp throttle response, and combined with the torque converter you can pretty easily roast the rear tires without even having to hold the brake pedal. You would not believe the difference, and it may actually annoy you because you will realize how much they tuned this car down, while other models like the IS for example they did the complete opposite.
If you want to keep the mods minimal - the stock exhaust manifolds are restrictive, and the headers are very worth it and will noticeably add hp and torque.
The engine I am building is going to end up being up somewhere around 7k for the short block using a 2UZ iron block with sleeves installed to replace the aluminum 3UZ block, and using aftermarket forged internals that a Tundra uses, I can end up with 4.7, 5.0 or up to 5.2 of displacement. With the rest of the engine included and done right with all the head head work, oversize valves, cams, it will probably be around $13k-14k, and if I decide to install a turbo or blower at least I can be sure the engine can handle it, and will be good up to 650hp reliably, which will likely be more than the LCF when they do decide to come out with the turbo model. After all, the LC500 was admitted to be the actual replacement for the SC because it was believed for a while they would make another SC.

I love them both but I have to say this: I traded in my 2016 IS 250 (brother to the RC) for a 2019 UX 250h (and I kept my 2009 SC430). As beautiful as the IS's styling was, the IS 250 was underpowered and not great on MPG for the 4 cylinder it was. I love the UX 250h. It gets 40 mpg, is a dream to drive, and has awesome safety features. An aftermarket device makes the CarPlay wireless. And yet, I LOVE my 2009 SC430 Pebble Beach! It's a dream to drive with the top up and with the top down. I updated the radio to have wireless CarPlay and I have a backup camera. Every day, I have a horrible dilemma when I go to my drive way: "Which Lexus do I drive today?" Do I drive a classic convertible touring car that gets admiring looks when I'm on the road or do I drive a sharply appointed, ecologically sensitive, agile crossover-hybrid that's pushing the envelop of modern vehicles? GEEZ! How do I decide! [I know, it's totally a very first-world problem!].

The spindle grill is ugly as hell, and the main reason I don't buy a new Lexus. Lexus makes some beautiful new cars, just as long as you don't look at them from the front. The SC430 still looks beautiful, and it's on its way to being the first Lexus collectable worth having.

I think the 200t is more comparable to the 90s SC300 as the form of the car is similar and the headlamps are too except as he says , the rc is angular. I think hat Lexus has done a good job by turning the cruiser v8 in the 430 into a monster in the RCF. My favorite is neither the SC 300 in my opinion is best in style and has a JZ family engine... so even with 230hp in the states and 275hp in the soarer model.. tuning jumps power gains to well beyond the RCF at a fraction of the proce

I have a 2006 SC430 that is highly modified as I turn it into a true Japanese Porsche, using my totaled 2009 that I parted out. Currently building a 5.2 engine out of the extra 4.3 using a 2UZ iron block, and all forged internals so a blower or turbo can be used in the future, but aiming to run N/A for a while and it should be able to put out somewhere around 400-430hp range with the built engine.
I also have a 98 Mark VIII LSC, and love the car - its in incredible condition as well with the 32V Intec Cobra engine, and surprisingly will outhandle my SC430 easily even though I have stock wheels on it, and I have 9.5" front and 10" wide wheels on it with super wide grippy rubber. The SC430 with the proper mods, will turn into an absolute beast, and there is a reason why its used in Japan for different kinds of racing including drifting, because the frame is super super strong and pretty stiff being that its a true convertible. I have had numerous Tbirds in the past as well, which the Mark VIII is built on.
