Hey, glad you enjoyed "Our Town". We keep our sailboat here and go by the sub dozens of times each summer. Scout troupes had been able to sleep on sub (I did it with all three of my sons.) Too bad you didn't see the Lake Express ferry go by. Muskegon is so much better than it was decades ago and is still getting better and better. We were in the sailboat that you taped in Pentwater after this video. See my comment there.
My home town. I moved away to GR in 1991, and in 1993 I moved away to other states. Havent been back that often.
My Grandpa was in the Navy and fought in WWII. After that he was stationed all over the United States and my mom moved around alot because of it. In the 1960's he became head of the coast guard in Muskegon. My mom met my dad in Muskegon, and here I still live. I'm almost 53 years old.
Great video! Both Lights in Muskegon ( owned by Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy) are accessible for an up close look! Walk to outer Light (Muskegon South Breakwater Light) is on the break wall, almost a mile walk out. Inner Light (Muskegon South Pierhead Light) has a public walk way through NOAA property, tours of this Light are Friday, Saturday and Monday from 1 to 5PM (till Labor Day 2021).
I'm way late here but if your ever back in the area Muskegon State Park has been my family's favorite part to camp at for a few generations now, you get wooded campsites just over the dunes from the lake and a really nice beach. The reservations fill up the instant they become available 6 months in advance but I believe all state campgrounds reserve 20% on sites for first come, first serve.
If you're ever making a trip to Michigan and want to stay at certain state campgrounds in the prime season you pretty much have to make your reservations 6 months to the day in advance.
20 years ago, we brought my son's Boy Scout troop to Muskegon and we spent the night on the Silversides. A fun night!!!
I'm a muskegon native and our troop 1051 did it too! Must be 15 years ago now
I remember we had burger king deliver us breakfast.. kids loved it
Enjoyed viewing my hometown. Haven't been there in a couple years. Thanks for the nostalgia....looks different.
I'm not complaining. I enjoy the areas that you visit and the fact that you're sharing them with those who can't. I wish that you would research the sites that you visit so you could share the information with us. Quite often, you share your thoughts and ideas, but so many times it seems that you're guessing without knowing the facts. Thanks for your videos.
Yes I feel he sometimes is always “on to the next thing”, rushing through what is right in front of him. He tore through that museum lol. He’s a great guy though and I really appreciate his personality and vibe. Seems like a great person to be around...It’s just quality not quantity for me when seeing places. I guess we all have our preferences.
You can walk out to the lighthouse to the left. Its beautiful. Me and my wife do it every year.
Fun adventure for all of us. Thanks 😊
very nice place last year i went to muskegon i had the pleasure of knowing many places and i also bought a house i live in california and i plan to move next year with my family i love michigan and muskegon thanks for uploading these beautiful videos
Did you end up moving there? Do you like it?
Welcome!
Thanks for the shout out to the United States Coast Guard Russ👍Truly warriors🌟
My daughter and I just got back from Indiana Dunes National Park. It was Awesome. Watched the sun set over the Chicago skyline
Welcome to Muskegon
So glad you are enjoying the trip to Ohio and Michigan! Michigan has a ton of free camping!!
Thanks so much for sharing your adventures.. For those of us that are not fortunate to travel, this is exciting..
🙋♀️Hello Russ! Turned out to be a really nice day. Muskeegan is beautiful. Calm. The purple flowers were Miniature Irises. I enjoyed seeing the museum & touring both of the boats. I could see you in the Captains Chair easily, but the Sub was so narrow. 👍
If you would go to Whitefish bay…. There’s a museum about the Edmand Fitzgerald …….Is worth seeing….And there’s lighthouse there too. Super interesting…it’s in the Upper Peninsula….
Glad your stopping at these type of museums. Very "cool". Canada is having fires and smoke/haze is drifting down south. Hope you won't have to deal with that.
Beautiful beach ⛱! I just got back from Corpus Beach! Awesome. Thanks for Sharing Russ!
Dang...if only the keys were left you could have been the the number one UTube viral sensation ever !!!
It was a fun day. 🇺🇲
There you go! The USS Silversides is our battleship. God bless you all from Muskegon, MI home of the Big Red Indians
Michigan is awesome, glad to see some content creators here in Muskegon!
We actually took the ferry from WI to Muskegon! It was several years ago and was only $45.00 for the Silverado. Took about 4 hours. There’s stuff to do on it too!
That ferry is now $206 for a round trip, according to the website.
Big ferry that goes across to Wisconsin is in Ludington. North of Muskegon on 31
I was so exciting see you toured our area here in Muskegon. I hope you enjoyed southwest Michigan.
Good tours Russ. They’ve done a good job.
I had a team mate while at Western Michigan who grew up in Muskegon and he took me up there to visit his family. This was back in the mid 70s and it was much different then. It was more of an indurstry town then. Great vid. I have planned on going up the UP in Sept.
Cool place to visit I like the sub would have been cool to go inside. The Coast Guard boat pretty cool.
Russ I hope you go to sue ste.marie Michigan. You'll love watching the boats go through the locks as they go from lake Huron to superior. Really cool!
thanks Russ.
Thanks, Russ for the tour.
Nice place sir njoy the journey explore more and more sir👌👌👌❤❤❤❤
Such a great summer trip….I live in PA….and have been to a few places in Michigan…this trip is an inspiration to explore further….thanks Russ!
My hometown Muskegon!
Beautiful beaches , white sand .
Hey Russ!!! "VESSELS " & "LIGHTHOUSES " W O W !!! Be Safe!!!
Great and the weather cooperated with you!
Great tour video! I share your videos on my Facebook page, and people enjoy them. Greetings from central Florida! Have a great day!
I am glad you enjoyed your time in our beautiful city. :)
I read somewhere that in WWII a torpedo cost $10,000. Which is about $175,000 today. At the start of the war they tested two of them on an old ship that was going to be scrapped. One went under it and was lost. The other hit it. They didn't test any more, because they were so expensive. So US Navy submariners went out across the Pacific to fight the Japanese with torpedoes that had tested 50% effective. They did a pretty good job, considering!
I heard that the USS Silversides was the first submarine to reach Pearl Harbor after it was bombed in December 1941. Is that true??
According to Wikipedia, the Silversides first arrived at Pearl Harbor in June of 1942. It doesn't mention if other subs were there. But being the first submarine 6 months after the attack wouldn't count for much, would it?
@@BlazingLaser Yeah, no that’s not nearly as impressive. Still i would like to know for sure if they didn’t send subs until 6 mos. later.
I too love those museums. Great video Russ!😊👍👍
Wonderful Russ and really enjoyed that one. Thank you so much for sharing it.
There's no big ferries in Muskegon only a hydroplane boat . You need to catch the SS Badger in Ludington arrive's in port around 6:30 7 pm . Now that's a ship.
Great video only on RVTV thanks you for taking us along on the journey with you stay safe and travel well sir the grandkids says hello lance and family
My hometown.
Great trip Russ, beautiful area!
I live in Florida but was born and raised in Michigan... love this ♡
Awesome video Russ!
🙏🏻👍🏻 Russ 😄 welcome to Michigan 💞❤️🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Welcome to my home town
Went and was supposed to stay the night on the Silversides in the middle of the winter, in the evening the power went out and we stayed on the cutter, That was COLD
Beautiful beach
A little late in the conversation, but as a man born and raised in Muskegon Michigan, the great lakes are the only lakes that start with "Lake" .... All others start with their respective names. Such as Muskegon Lake, not lake Muskegon. Just a little humorous michgander insight. ❤
as always, good stuff, my friend!
I think that first old building you past was the old paper mill. It closed about 7 years ago or so.
Look at you, 68K!!! WTG!! Enjoyed all tours, and history. Often times, after your videos I will look the different things up, interesting finds. 😊👍
I wait every day for a new Video …. Thanks Russ und be well
Hey you forgot the LST393 it is also a floating museum and is much bigger and cheaper to visit than the sub!
Really good video Russ, you should have went down into the sub, it's really interesting how the crew slept on cots above and below the torpedoes, travel safe
Great video Russ have fun, Mike in California
I'm a muskegon native and we do walk out to the lighthouse, maybe we arent supposed to though lol. I lived on the other side of the lake pier
Also they have over night sleep overs on the submarine throughout the year, we did them as boy scouts
My mom is originally from Jackson Michigan, have family near lake city.
Hi Russ , great video. Was lucky enough to visit the USS Pompanito in the Bay Area a few years back. Seeing inside a sub is a must. Take the opportunity next time. Stay safe.
Would I be able to use 10-15 seconds of your video of when you approach the beach for a video of mine with credit on my channel?
I'll take that as a yes??☺️
I think you would have enjoyed the inside of the submarine!
parking use to be free.. still a beautiful beach
Was just at "The Deck" with family on Sunday. I live in Muskegon County. We love our lakes! You can walk the boardwalk.
That sailboat in the bay area was not the Pillsbury by chance? I went on a whale watch on that sailboat out of San Diego back in the 90's.
👍👍 Cool.
Nice job. What kind of camera were you using? I fly a DJI Mini 2.
Welcome to Mi Russ . Might I suggest a place called legs inn also the covered road that takes up to it , I think you would really enjoy it , don't forget to drive across the mack lol
I hope Russ drives around Beaver Island, MI.
Fun watching your trip, but you should have gone inside the sub, especially where the sign on the only toilet on how many steps to flush toilet.. one miss step and sh.....
Wasn’t expecting to see a video of my home town today but here we are. Really cool video! I always feel like Michigan goes under appreciated.
Did you see any signs that say no overnight parking. What time do you have to get your cars out? We want to go to the deck bar and grill and want to take a cab home. Don't want to get towed.
Love seeing you in my area, I'm the maintenance guy at a camp up in Pentwater, let me know if you are up in those parts!
Are you going across the Mackinac Bridge?
If you circle lake Michigan the USS Cobia in Manitowoc ,WI is the better of the two sub museums, you'll have a docent lead you through the sub, some interesting stuff , it's like seeing a WWII B/W sub movie in color .
We enjoyed it I also know somebody that was at Pearl Harbor the day the day the bombing was he live through it 102 and he still healthy
I'm from muskegon
How did they get the submarine to Michigan?
Did you go inside the submarine? I went there on a field trip in 2001 when I was in sixth grade. It was a bit claustrophobic inside.
Yeah being in the sub is really weird
I would love to see how clear the water is on the beach ⛱️
Captain must steer with his feet or has some really long arms.
That armed Coast Guard Cutter is there to keep people from Wisconsin from sneaking in
Oh yea, that road is nice and new. Why don't they fix Broadway or Summit
I live here..
It use to be a free beach until a couple of years ago.
❣️❣️
You could actually walk out to that lighthouse, you could even fish off it too!
A lot of junky shipping containers adds to the scenery
:)

Thanknyou about data from Burma and others. Surely in all these years they must have prepared for something like this......OMG! Thanks doc for ongoing integrity.....keep moving forward into the future.....Wow! Doc this is boggling my mind. Please stay safe....we are surrounded by fire tonight with a thick covering of smoke...?great for the lungs doc. Climate is changing as I write this...wow! C from canada.....
Hay Russ Check out Whiskey Creek Campground Norm and michelle will take care of you good host and great campground
They have plenty of campsites for ya .
Living in your van is comparable to living in a submarine.....
I hate this park my cousin drowned here in 1995 and I was there
Horrible looking roads
Welcome to Michigan lol
Muskegon is A DUMP!!!!!!!! I have lived here for over 30 years. Its Muskegon Lake. I live 2 miles from Pere Marquette. I haven't been there in over a decade. I hate this state. Up by the bridge is pretty. Everything south of Ludington is garbage. Nothing to do. No good restaurants. No entertainment.
