My first foray into the world of Black Sabbath and it started with a bang. Quality catchy riffs with powerful vocals and heavy drums. What a beautiful concoction that all makes!

Sabbath are considered the fathers of heavy metal. bought their first album Black sabbath when it came out, I was 15 years old mind blowing the lead guitarist lost the tips off two of his fingers in an industrial accident and made his own false tips but had to tune his guitar down because of this and sort of created that heavy metal sound.

Ozzy era Sabbath! Awrsome! You can't go wrong. You have to do War Pigs next. It's such true song. As for "Changes", its on Vol 4 album, my favorite. Lots of bangers on it and "Laguna Sunrise" is so chill. I play that one and people are like "Who's that?". I say "Sabbath", their heads are blown. It's just a beautiful quiet song. More Ozzy Sabbath please. US Roadie 1 signing out.

Black Sabbath are the progenitors of so called "Heavy Metal". There were other bands getting into this style before them, Cream, Iron Butterfly, Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin, to name a few. No one had approached the sheer weight and in your face attitude like Sabbath did. They defined a genre, for sure... Enjoy!

A lot of people have missed out not listening to Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin because of rumours and headlines. Sabbath's lyrics are worth listening too, social topics madness, war, greed, isolation, humanity, unity. Sabbath has a mixture of so many styles like Jazz, blues, rock and each song changes tempo halfway through a song. So interesting.

I was exposed to Deep Purple in Rock, Black Sabbath's album Paranoid (and Santana's Abraxas) the same afternoon, in the basement of a friends house, +50 years ago. Amazing. But they were not first. I heard "The crazy world of Arthur Brown" and the song "Fire" in the radio (but you should check the video = TV version) in the Summer 1968(!). Pre-metal! Maybe also Zappa's "Who are the brain police" (1966) should be included! (and Geezer Butler, bass in Sabbath listened to Zappa). Alice Cooper must have started after Brown but before Sabbath. Led Zeppelin's debut was Jan 1969. Sabbath's first album (before Paranoid) was released Feb 1970.
But you can always continue. One of the inspirations to their first song was Holst's "The planets" composed during world war I.

Realize that the lead guitarist Tony Iommi has no fingertips,. He lost them in an accident and plays with fake prosthetic ones he made... To be able to play he filed down the frets on the guitar and used banjo strings... He said he also used to boil the strings.. later as equipment developed further he was able to get thin strings that he could play...

I'm taking a chance on this with you. I'm quite green on Black Sabbath. They have never been for me.
Funnily enough my first thought is they remind me of The Move with Roy Wood, the band from which ELO was born out of.
ELO got a rather heavy disco rock song from 1979 that many seem to like named Don't Bring Me Down, and you would probably like that song, but maybe you're already familiar with it.
I grew up with the ELO Time album from 1981, and they changed their sound very much with it as they left the 70's and embraced the 80's. Actually the first tracks off the time album are quite heavy too. But not that heavy either. Heavy for a pop band maybe.
This Iron Man song also reminds me a bit of early Queen which also were quite heavy. For example the whole album Sheer Heart Attack by Queen as well as their first album.
Actually I was expecting something heavier with Black Sabbath. But his voice reminded me of Roy Wood. I did not like it though. But I did not dislike it as much as I thought I would either. I'm not really too keen on heavy music. But I always like to test my limits too and be open to expand some horizon.
There are heavy songs that I like very much. For example 21st century schizoid man by King Crimson, The Return of the giant Hogweed by Genesis, The Gates of Delirium by Yes. But maybe those are just a piece of cake for heavy metal fans. I did once try out a metal band named Sepultura and remember I found it a bit interesting, but it's just way way too heavy for me.
I like the song Shadow Of The Moon by Blackmore's Night. He used to be heavy with his band Deep Purple but his wife made him softer. And I like that. Fans of Deep Purple may not.
Actually that song Iron Man also reminds me of King Crimson.

@@kjellmand7103 hey, thank you for your comment and thoughts. Glad you were willing to attempt something new along with me. There are certain ELO songs I am familiar with given my dad is a big fan, he took me along to seem them live a few years back actually which was cool. I did a reaction to that king Crimson track which I did find particularly interesting, unfortunately they had it immediately blocked so no joy there and will not be revisiting them as a result. I hope to continue to push myself with these bands and learn my boundaries of what I like as I go as you have clearly done too 🙂

So cool that he is a big fan of ELO. I love all their albums from 1975 to 1986. And a few songs of their early 70's.
My top 5 favorite bands are Wings, Genesis, ELO, Bee Gees & Yes.
It seems like King Crimson don't want to get any more fans. They seem to be afraid of exposure.
I have discovered a lot of music I was not aware of thanks to regular people online who are including varous music in their videos. And I have bought a lot of CD's and LP's online because of it.
I even discovered a band from my own country thanks to a person on the other side of the planet reacting to it. It was the album Nattfiolen by the band Jordsjø, which I had never heard of before. It was progressive rock from 2019. And I listen to it regularly. It is actually the only album from this century that I listen regularly to. Most of the times when I discover some modern music that I like, I get tired of it after a while.

Most of the music I've discovered is Japanese city pop. They sound like western music. And I had no idea such music existed.
I've also found a song from 2015 called L'Impératrice Agitations Tropicales that I'm not getting tired of, but I found that by using the Shazam app on my phone when they were playing it in a store in town.
It has happened that I've heard nice songs in town that I did not know what was and haven't heard again. But my nephew showed me a free app that I could download on my phone and I just open that app and the phone listens to whatever is being played and then the name of the song comes on the screen.
There is one song by the Japanese artist Makoto Matsushita called Lazy Night from 1981 that sounds very similar to the song Glamour Profession by Steely Dan. But I like the Japanese best.
Haruomi Hosono is a very famous Japanese artist. I like his song Tokyo Rush from 1978 very much. But he is mostly famous for his electronic music. But I prefer his pop songs.
I think the song Koisuru Kalen by Eiichi Ohtaki is a very sweet song. Actually there's lots of sweet Japanese songs that I've discovered that I like. But if you want something more cool and fancy then Haruomi Hosono is a better choice ha ha.
Altough Hosono and Ohtaki did play in a band together at first. Hosono has played with everyone it seems. I have no idea what they are singing. I like so many songs from all over the world. If it sounds nice then that's good enough for me ha ha.
