It's so weird to me that 100k miles is considered a lot in the UK. Even in Top Gear cheap car challenges they say that like it's so much when 200k is pretty normal in the USA.
@@theKeshaWarrior Our MOT regulations are so strict that cars are frequently failed beyond economic repair before they are really ready to die. But there are many people with perfectly functioning vehicles with milages well into the 100 thousands.
+Brock Walls Mexican made VS European made. the first few years of them being made in mexico they had the piston rings installed incorrectly causing many to brake down within the first few years.
Proper maintenance is the big key. But also the issue of Mexican made parts is a big problem and is the downfall to so many of them being junked and scrapped here in the United States. I have a Turbo S and my daily driver TDI Beetle and love both of them regardless of any problems or issues.
Absolute garbage car. The 2.0 was the shittiest engine I ever owned. Bought at 85k miles burned up the engine by 87. Good condition low mile cars should never break down ad much as mine did! I'm not talking about the diesel or the 1.8 turbo. I'm sure those are good engines but still BUY a focus instead!
''will we be collecting these in 10 years time?'' ''i doubt it''
well maybe not 10 years ago, but 20 years later theres actually a decent following
I used to have a 2000 myself. I could put 2 large pizzas on that dash and they would not fall off.
As a new owner of a clanky 2001 new beetle... Can confirm. I managed to haul 3 pizzas on the dash for a party.
Richard looks so different and young in this video compared to now.
Nicholas Pantoni lol, people age a bit in 20yrs 😂
I love my 2000 Bug. I drove it up and down a nasty mountain trail on 3 wheels
The black beetle is still on the road 102K miles on it's last MOT.
The blue one was on the road until 2013 and got to 100K miles on it's last MOT.

Weird that VW is very highly regarded in terms of reliability in Europe, compared to their reputation in North America.

@@Kbrusky15 all the european ones were made in Mexico too
I love my bug
They obviously never tried the Turbo S model, it's totally different.
Or the RSI, there's only 250 in the world.
only 242 still exist from what ive been able to find. HPA though has a replica thats a twinturbo but only 25 of those exist
I didn't know that, but I'm glad I do.
Your right. The Turbo S and the Spring edition turbo Beetles are way different and much more fun with more personality over these base Beetle's.
This generation of VW Beetle and the Ford Ka were designed by the same man, I read that in a car magazine, its pretty obvious too.
One of the "funnest" cars to drive (and to just look at).
The black Beetle was still Mot’d until January 2021.
Why are there two reviews, this and the one with Ginny???
Richard Hammond: I hate Vauxhall
Also Richard Hammond: Films in Vauxhall dealership
I have the 1.8 turbo but had so many problems with it.
Too my favourite car
how did they open the back hatch w/o using a key ???
Robert Walters there's a button on the key fob or boot release inside
release on the fob and the door
Probably someone standing off camera with a key fob. That latch/pull doesn't do anything, at least not in the US version of the car that I have.
It was unlocked
@@billd66 in my 2001, when you open the badge, the latch automatically releases the lock
Just got turbo model brought me here🙄
How about gearbox, have problem or not like new vw.?
gearbox on the NB is solid
awh fuck now I have a 250quid beetle.
CD 10 novembre 2017 AL 45 zecchino d'oro 2002
Who is she?
That ain't Hammond
Never mind I see him know sorry
Beetle
I'd rather get a golf
"when it looks so pretty" .. i literally think this thing is the ugliest car ever. The NEW one.. 2012 and up are really great looking imo
Tyler Durden I liked the original and new new one too, this just has no charm.
Ive seen way uglier cars.
Volkswagen cut their market in half with that stupid vase. It immediately became a "chick car".
